So here we are. This is my first time to address some words to our readers.

General Assem bly, which took place in Bucha rest on 1st of July, decided to appoint the new Management Council, Internal Auditors and Judicial Panel. Newly elected Board took one of first decisions to appoint new commission chairmen and members, who se already started their work even before autumn commissions meetings. I’m really looking forward for the good cooperation in coming years. I wish all the appointed officials success and satisfaction with the duties performed.

New mandate means also farewell of some good friends like our former President Mar tin de Graaff. I would like to thank him for his work done in FIM Europe, not only as President, but also as deputy for sport and earlier for beyond sport activities. For me personally it was a good lesson from such a

person with big experience in motorcycling. Thank you, Martin!

In this edition of our Magazine you can find enormous number of sport event reports. We are approaching the end of the season and a lot of important events already has concluded. You can read about all the di sciplines including events like Sidecar and Quad Cross of European Nations, Speedway Euro Championship Final or first ever E-Bike European Enduro Cup.

I’m also really happy to read the special tri bute to Romano Neri. You may not believe, but in 1990 my club K.T.M Novi Kielce and Moto Club Conselice had a club experience exchange in Poland and then in Italy. And imagine in my grandfather’s garage our Italian friends kept their motorcycles! But it was not the end of our collaboration, becau se when he was for the first time in Albacete for the European Road Racing Champion ship I met Romano and we remembered this old cooperation. And Imagine my sur prise when we met again during the FIM Europe Congress in Malta when he and his son was in charge of the event footage. Mo torcycle people are always connected!

Dear readers,

we are close to the end of another season rich of events and races.

After two tough years of pandemic, we were finally back to normal and all Euro pean disciplines had full calendars. We have to thank all FIM Europe members and partners, that gave their best to en sure a season full of excitement. In the next months the new Sporting Commis sions will have the chance to take stock of the season and schedule the next one.

The FIM Europe Congress in Bucharest marked the end of the 2018-2022 man date and appointed the new Management Council with a new President: Mr Michal Sikora. Thank you again to the Romanian Federation for the enormous efforts and dedication in preparing the Congress. In this issue there is a special content dedicated to a great man and friend, Romano Neri: he is a reference point

in the Motorsport as photographer and videomaker. He worked for magazines and companies and also for institutions as FIM, FIM Europe and FMI, the Italian Motorcycle Federation. It’s a pleasure to celebrate his amazing career and job. We had the occasion to meet him in summer time and he gave us a priceless treasure: his archive regarding the European events. His work is history: thank you for everything!

ROMANO NERI A LIFE DEDICATED TO MOTORSPORT

Romano Neri is a reference point in the Motorsport as photographer and videomaker. He worked for magazines and companies and also for institutions as FIM, FIM Europe and FMI, the Italian Motorcycle Federation. We had the occasion to meet him in summer time and he gave us a priceless trea sure: his archive regarding the European events. Pictures and footage of inestimable value. His work is history. It’s a pleasure to celebrate his amazing career and job.

Which is your best memory?

It's hard to say, because I have so many good me mories to tell. Perhaps, the most beautiful is the relationship I had with riders: we talked, we eat to gether. I remember Walter Villa with love, he was a real friend. I was in direct contact with champions, as Fausto Gresini or Luca Cadalora. I remember when I filmed Loris Capirossi's first European vic tory; he was 16 years old! Then the debut of riders like Jorge Lorenzo and Andrea Dovizioso.

How did your passion for motorsport begin?

Like most passions born, when I was a child. I've always loved photography. When I was young, one summer I had the opportunity to meet a photographer who worked on the Adriatic Coast: he gave me a camera and I took pictu res of VIPs on holiday. That was my first experience. Then

I met Walter Bernagozzi, who was in the motorsport and worked with the FMI, the Motorcycle Italian Federation. It was 1974 and my first job was a report about the circuits' safety: I was going around the track with a camera on the hood of a car. This report was presented at the San Ma rino Congress and from this on started the improvement in safety. Since then I have never stopped working with motorbikes.

ROMANO NERI INTERVIEW

Many friends. But was there a rider with whom you just didn't get on?

I got along with everyone. There are no disliked ri ders. A rider is a fighter: he has the ability to prevail over all.

If you were to write a book, how would you start?

For sure it would be a real adventure!

I would start from a small village in the Lower Roma gna, Conselice, where I was born during the war, in 1942, in a peasant family. I would have liked to go to school, but in those days there were not many possi bilities. I had to start working early, helping my father in the fields. But it wasn't for me, so I took a degree in electrical engineering. I started working as electri cian, but I didn't like it. My sister sent me to work as hairdresser, but I didn't like that either. Then, my cou sin suggested me to go to Imola as photographer as sistant. I started to develop rollers and print photos.

I learned the basics of being a photographer. But I wasn't able to photograph. So, a photographer on the Adriatic Coast offered me a job as paparazzo on the beach. It was 1962: I spent four months, from mor ning to night, chasing celebrities. On the last day of the season I was doing a shoot and slipped, breaking my camera: what I saved, I spend on buying a new camera! From there I opened my studio, shooting weddings, but I soon tired of. In those days the edi torial of Moto Sprint and Auto Sprint were being born and Marcello Sabatini, the Editorial Chief, asked me to follow the F1. How many memories! At the Salzbur gring, when the Alfa 33s were still running, I raced with Arturo Merzario! But I had sad memories too, as when I was at Montjuic with Marco Piccinini and Rolf Stommelen lost the spoiler and the car crash into the grandstand causing the death of 13 people.

What does your archive contain?

I ran the Italian federal film archive for 36 years. I still get goose bumps when I think of Vincenzo Mazzi interviewing the Italian team members at the European Champion ships. Inside the archive there are thousands of photos and unpublished footage of the European races. There are many riders who today are great riders, some even beca me World Champions.

So many years of collaboration with FIM Europe. Who is the person you most hold in your heart?

Certainly Dr. Vincenzo Mazzi. But also many of my colla borators and friends, who have travelled with me over the years.

Learn how Tor Poznań Circuit has become one of the most modern circuits in the world

Learn how Tor Poznań Circuit has become one of the most modern circuits in the world. The Automobillklub Wielkopolski has recently upgraded the Tor Poznan circuit in Poland, making it ‘one of the most modern circuits in the world’, says Bartosz Bieliński, president of Automobillklub Wielkopolski.

The circuit was updated through the instal lation and use of the full MYLAPS X2 Race Control solution. This includes Tracking, Mar shalling, Advanced Track Management. The Marshalling module includes the newest ad dition to the system, the FIA & FIM grade 2 homologated light panels. The installation of the panels means that Poznań Circuit can now welcome more racing series at the circuit, wich is a great advantage to the track. An overview of the installation specifications follows.

The System

MYLAPS X2 Race Control is a fully integrated solution to control all the action happening on the track, using real-time data (GPS location and vehicle data) to enhance the safety of personnel and racers on the track.

X2 Race Control is a modular system, meaning that you can select the components that suit the needs of your circuit. The system consists of 4 pillars: tracking, marshalling, advanced track management and live data.

The Tor Poznan circuit

The Tor Poznań circuit has existed for over 40 years and has been welcoming racers from all around the world for many years now. Over the years, motorsport has seen many techni

cal innovations and upgrades and the Poznań circuit had to decide when to upgrade their circuit, and to prioritize the adoption of new technology innovations. Following the instal lation of a new digital camera system in 2021, the circuit turned its attention to further im proving track safety, together with enhancing the on-track driving experience. Following a review of the available technology they de cided that the X2 Race Control system would achieve both goals. Their upgrade was suc cessful and showed advantages right from the start.

like now. We have 238 transponders, 6 loops (start /finish, intermediate 1, intermediate 2, Pit entry, start / finish pit, pit out). In this case, we are ready to operate new racing series that we can handle without any problem.’’

These on-track advantages were visible, right from the first moment X2 Race Control was installed. Sławomir Pytlak, race director of Poznan Circuit, said: “I was the Race Director during the 1st and 2nd round of the Polish Mo tor Racing Championship at Poznań Circuit. The newest Race Management System from MYLAPS helped me in my duties as the Race Director. The system turned out to be very intuitive and fulfilled the expectations. The system helps to quickly detect threats and prepare safety procedures while receiving messages from marshals.’’

Because the marshals can work more effi ciently and react faster to the action on track, the marshalling module could lead to marshall number reduction. This means lower opera tional costs.

Jakub Kędziora, timekeeper of Poznan Circuit and innovator of collaborating with MYLAPS, said: “From year to year, new investments ap pear on our track, making it one of the best tracks in Europe, which will host the best rac ing series’’. Kędziora adds: “..we finally have the best timing system possible and the latest race management system. This is something

I am very proud of and I hope for a long and fruitful cooperation with MYLAPS because they are pioneers in the motorsport equip ment market.’’

Following a successful implementation be fore the start of the 2022 season, the repre sentatives of the Poznań circuit are now very pleased with the use of the X2 Race Control. Alongside X2 Race Control, a complete instal lation of the X2 Timing system also was exe cuted. Tomasz Kędziora, main timekeeper of Poznan Circuit explained the on-track advan tages:

Enhanced Racing Experience

Beside the advantages that the system has given to Poznań on-track, it also enhances the entire experience off-track. Tomasz Kędziora: “The Race Management impresses drivers and teams that come to Poznań for compe tition – they appreciate the highly increased visibility of the electronic light panels over traditional flags, and also the extra element of safety through our GPS tracking of positions on track’’.

But it’s not just the timers and race directors that are happy with the usage of X2 Race Con trol. Bartosz Bieliński, president of Automo bilklub Wielkopolski, said: ‘’This year, Poznań Circuit opens another chapter in its more than 40-year history. We are proud to announce that Poznań Circuit has become one of the most modern circuits in the world. We have equipped our facility with the best available timing system and the latest Race Control system approved by the international federations FIA and FIM.

All marshal posts have been equipped with LED panels, wireless tablets for panels to be operated by marshals. The system is addi tionally expanded with GPS antennas with transmitters, thanks to which we will be able to track every car and motorcycle on the track. Everything is combined into one track and race management system’’.

It may seem that installing X2 Race Control and learning how to use the system is a sig nificant time investment, as marshals have to get used to the controls and adjustments of a new system. However, that doesn’t have to be the case. Sławomir Pytlak: ‘’The observation post marshals quickly learned how to use the new device and signaled the threat in a timely manner. I’m looking forward to the next racing weekend and the opportunity to interact with the system.’’

’’It is a consistently implemented program of modernization of the only homologated race track in Poland, implemented by Automobilk lub Wielkopolski, which aims to take a place among the top European motorsport facilities, and whose first effects are already visible. Re cently Poznań Circuit was visited by repre sentatives of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship. The visit was promising and it is possible that the track, apart from racing cars, motorcycles, karting and recently also rallycross, will gain another functionality’’.

YAMAHA R3 SUPERFINALE: PORTIMAO SET TO WELCOME STARS OF THE FUTURE

in front of the biggest names in WorldSBK, gi ving them the chance to meet and learn from the likes of reigning champion Toprak Razgat lıoğlu, Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK team mate Andrea Locatelli, GYTR GRT Yamaha Wor ldSBK Team’s Garrett Gerloff and Kohta Nozane, as well as the top bosses from Yamaha and its teams.

Participating riders must be aged 14-18, with riders provided with a race-ready Yamaha YZF-R3 on the Thursday prior to the event.

Following the same format as seen in the Ya maha R3 bLU cRU European Cup, the R3 Super Finale will consist of a 30-minute Free Practice session on Friday morning, followed by a Su perpole qualifying that afternoon of the same length. Both races will take place on Saturday, with 25 points on offer in each.

The Portimao FIM Superbike World Champion ship round is set to host motorcycle racing’s rising stars of the future from across the wor ld, as the paddock welcomes the inaugural Ya maha R3 bLU cRU European SuperFinale.

Organised by Yamaha Motor Europe and series promoter JiR, with the support from FIM Europe and the Dorna WorldSBK Organisation, the inau gural Yamaha R3 European SuperFinale will pit up to 30 young stars from the various national R3 Cups around the globe.

In the Catalan WorldSBK round, Yamaha also ran the inaugural R7 SuperFinale, which followed the same format but was available to riders over the age of 18, competing on Yamaha R7 bikes. Michael Girotti came out on top, with the Italian winning a brand new and ready-to-race R7 su persport machine.

The overall winner will earn a supported ride in the 2023 Yamaha R3 bLU cRU European Cup, which this year supports six rounds of the Wor ldSBK championship, allowing young hopefuls to take their first step on the ladder towards the pinnacle of motorcycle road racing.

“This is a great opportunity for the best young riders to make the jump from racing in regio nal and national series, to joining the WorldSBK paddock in the Yamaha R3 bLU cRU European Cup, fully supported by Yamaha Motor Europe,” Andrea Dosoli, Yamaha Motor Europe Road Ra cing Manager. “It will be a great event, as we have already seen at the Cup races this year. We expect the competition to be really close and unpredictable.”

Yamaha has national R3 Cups running across countries worldwide, from Europe, to South America, Asia and Australia. Since 2021, the Ya maha R3 bLU cRU European Cup has acted as

the next step for these young riders, with youn gsters from the United States, Brazil, Thailand, Indonesia, United Arab Emirates and Australia all featuring in the line-up.

The R3 SuperFinale will give a unique opportunity for one rider, allowing the winner to race in the European Cup for a full campaign, with their entry completely funded by Yamaha Motor Europe. Participants can then benefit from several opportunities, with the eventual champion able to follow in the footsteps of 2021 Cup winner Iker Garcia Abella, and this year’s winner Enzo Valentim into the FIM Super sport 300 World Championship.

“Yamaha Motor Europe, JiR, the FIM and Dorna, have all worked hard to ensure that young riders are given every opportunity to advance to the next stage in their racing career,” Do soli said. “Already, we’ve seen several riders make the move up from the European Cup to the WorldSSP300 championship, where they have been competitive. The SuperFinale offers a chance for riders who might find it difficult to put the funds together and realise their full potential. We’re looking forward to heading to Portimao, it’s sure to be a great event.”

The global attraction of the Yamaha R3 bLU cRU European Cup continues to grow, and Ya maha Motor Europe is committed to ensuring that the R3 SuperFinale grid enjoys the same international presence.

FIM EUROPE CLUB TUSCANY 2022

The FIM Europe Club Experience Tu scany 2022 was held from 27th to 30th September in Tuscany (ITA).

With a program adapted to an "oran ge" weather emergency, the nearly twenty participants still had the opportunity to share all the plan ned activities and enjoy the unique atmosphere that only these events can create among colleagues.

The suggestions offered by the sce narios of Tuscany, together with the pleasures of a high level food and wine and the visit of wineries, some historical, some innovative, have made this experience unforgettable.

For the occasion, taking place in Italy, the participants were welco med on behalf of the FMI by the FMI Board Member and FIM Europe Vice President Francesco Mezzasalma, who shared a dinner with the par ticipants in the historic Castello di Bolgheri.

In the visits made to the cellars of the Castello di Bolgheri and the cel lars of the Tenuta Argentiera, the participants were able to enjoy the exclusive guide of Count Federico Zileri Dal Verme, Agronomist, Oe nologist, Owner of the Castello di Bolgheri and CEO of the Tenuta Ar gentiera.

It is a pity that such a great event is not promoted to the extent that it should by the FMNs at large, but this we are trying to change. Let's Ride Together......."

COENEN MASTERS THE SAND AT THE ROUND OF FLANDERS

Round seven of the EMX250 saw Jumbo Hu sqvarna BT Racing Team’s Luca Coenen vic torious in the deep and sandy conditions of Lommel!.

A 1-1 result put L. Coenen on the top step of the box in front of his home fans, while Elzin ga finished second and Bonacorsi third. As it stands, Elzinga continues to lead the EMX250 Championship standings, 30 points over Toe ndel and L. Coenen who is third.

OSTERHAGEN WINS IN SWEDEN

Rounds eight of the EMX250 have concluded at the round of Sweden in Uddevalla, with Fantic Factory Team Maddii’s Haakon Osterhagen secu ring his first overall victory in the EMX250 class.

A 1-2 result gave Osterhagen the overall win, his first ever in the EMX250 class, while a solid 3-3 result put Prugnieres second on the box ahead of McLellan who celebrated his first podium finish. Two rounds remain of the EMX250 Championship and Elzinga continues to lead over Toendel by 44 points, while L. Coenen is third.

Iitti-KimiRing, Finland, made a memorable comeback to the European Championship racing calendar with a perfect 1-1 by Lucas Coenen of Jumbo Husqvarna BT Racing in the EMX250class.

In race 1 Coenen won the race ahead of McLellan, Osterhagen, Elzinga and Fantic Factory Team Maddii’s Cornelius Toendel.

In race 2 Coenen was fully in control from start to finish and ended up winning the race an impressive 21.885 seconds ahead of Bonacorsi and Toendel. There was no doubt about who the winner was as Coenen stood on the top step proudly after winning both races ahead of McLellan who secured his second podium finish on the bounce and Bonacorsi who was third.

With one round to go, Elzinga will take the championship fight to France in one week, with Toendel 40 points behind and Coenen in third a further 20 points behind and still has a chance to go for the silver medal!

ELZINGA CROWNED

The round of Charente Maritime conclu ded the 2022 campaign of the EMX250 Championship that saw Hutten Metaal Yamaha Racing’s Rick Elzinga wrap up the title in the opening heat, while Jum bo BT Husqvarna Racing Team’s Lucas Coenen ended his season in the best way possible with a 1-1 scorecard and claimed his third overall win of the year as well as the silver medal in the stan dings!

Round seven of the EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing Championships have concluded at the round of Flanders that saw Janis Mar tins Reisulis victorious in the deep and sandy conditions of Lommel!.

ROUND 06TH - 07TH AUGUST

In race one of the EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing category, it was Laban Alm who took the holeshot and was the leading rider ahead of Matteo Luigi Russi of Tech 32, Maximillian Werner of Diga Pro cross KTM Racing, Ferruccio Zanchi of Yamaha Europe EMX125 MJC and Linus Persson. In the end, Van Erp won the race 6.599 seconds ahead of Zanchi, Alm, J. Reisulis and Valk.

In race two, J. Reisulis took the holeshot ahead of Fantic Factory Team Maddii’s Alexis Fueri, Werner, Van Erp and Zanchi. A race win and third gave Van Erp the overall victory ahead of J. Reisulis and Fueri who stood on the third step of the podium. Despite not being on the podium, Valk leads the championship into the final round of the series which will head to Finland and holds a 48-point advan tage over his closest rival and teammate Fueri, while K. Reisulis is third.

Finland made a memorable comeback to the World and European Championship racing calen dar with title celebrations from Fantic Factory Team Maddii’s Cas Valk who after the first race was crowned the EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing Champion.

KRESTINOV TAKES OVERALL VICTORIES

ROUND 13TH - 14TH AUGUST HYVINKÄÄ, FINLAND

In the first race the holeshot went to the championship lea der Jose Butron of JD Gunnex KTM Racing. The Spanish won the race and extended his championship lead while Kresti nov was second ahead of Matikainen, Kohut and Andero Lu sbo who worked his way into fifth on the final lap after Erki Kahro dropped two positions.

In race two, it was home hero Matikainen with the holeshot ahead of Krestinov, Butron and Sandner. Kohut started in around sixth place. In the final few laps, Kohut put in the work to get by Matikainen to second place from the Finnish rider and also solidify his spot on the podium! Krestinov won the race ahead of Kohut, Matikainen, Butron and Adamson.

A 2-1 result gave Krestinov his first overall win in the EMX Open class ahead of Butron who was forced to settle for se cond ahead of Kohut who joined the pair in third.

BUTRON CELEBRATES THE TITLE WITH OVERALL WIN IN TURKIYE

ROUND 03RD - 04TH SEPTEMBER AFYONKARAHISAR, TURKEY

The final round of the EMX Open European Championship in Afyonkarahisar, Turkey, saw JD Gunnex KTM Racing’s Jose Butron celebrating the title from the top step of the podium as the Spaniard secured his second overall victory of the season! The Turkiye podium was the same as the championship top three, with Tomas Kohut of Osicka MX Team and Michael Sandner of Raths Motorsports joining the winner on the podium as they collected their second and third place trophies and silver and bronze FIM-Europe medals.

MAREK SECURES EMX 2T GOLD MEDAL IN LOKET

The MXGP of Czech Republic hosted the one-round EMX2T series that saw the fastest riders in Europe go head-to-head for gold, silver and bronze medals!

A win and a second gave Toms Macuks the overall victory, which also mean that he was the 2022 winner and gold medallist. Haakon Osterhagen of Fantic Factory Team Maddii was second ahead of Johannes Klein of Sturm STC Racing Team who occupied the third step of the podium.

The future stars of motocross battled at the old-school track of Loket as the MXGP of Czech Republic hosted the finals of the EMX65 and EMX85.

In EMX65 with a double win Ricardo Bauer secures the gold medal in the EMX65 category, while Caudet Ruiz was given the silver medal and Salvador the bronze.

In EMX85 a 2-1 result meant that Vitezslav Marek was the winner for the second year in a row as he secured the gold medal and gold plate, while Doensen finished second ahead of Mantovani who took home the bronze medal.

Sensational USA and Netherlands at doubled up at Sidecarcross & Quadcross of European Nation in Kramolin, in the Czech Republic.

Quad Race One (Groups A/B)

Precisely on time the gate dropped for the opening quad race. Joe Maessen from team Netherlands grabbed the holeshot from Kevin Saar and Chad Wienen third at the end of lap one. The grid was huge and the pace fierce as team USA’s Wienen went ahead on the se cond lap. It was another surprise ride by the Belgian Randy Naveaux. He was flying ahead of Saar, with Bryce Ford scrapping with Harry Walker for fourth place.

Five laps in and Bryce Ford muscled ahead of his young British rival into fourth, but the trio in front were covered by just ten seconds. In sixth was Petit for France ahead of McLer non from team Ireland with Maessen slipping back. The track was rough but totally rideable and there were scraps all the way down the field.

Half-distance, the lead had stretched to se

ven seconds, with the chasing two, Naveaux and Saar on the same piece of track, and locked together.

Then with eight minutes left before the twolap board, Kevin Saar’s Yamaha expired, much to the dismay of Saar and the Estonian team. Team USA was now in control, with a six se cond match until – drama happened. Wienen was also out with a mechanical fault, with all the USA responsibility now on the shoulders of young Bryce Ford.

Into the closing stages and two laps remai ning, Ford was still under pressure from Na veaux, but kept his cool to the flag. Team Ire land had a great race, with both men in the high places.

Sidecar Race One (Groups A/B)

Two rows and the mass start gave us a huge thrill as the pack streamed into the first ri ght-hander, with local rider Lukas Cerny with Bastien Chopin grabbing the lead. Again, just the same as in qualifying, there was a pile-up on the straight, with five teams tangled up. Cerny made the most of his start, but a batt ling Stuart Brown/Josh Chamberlain fought like terriers on the few early bends to muscle into second place. Brown knew he had to get out front, and they were very impressive all race long. Etienne Bax had a sluggish start, down in sixth pace first time around, with work to do. The Swiss team of Marco Heinzer/ Reudi Betschart slotted third for an amazing race, but the Vanluchene/Bax Belgian train was coming. From a second-row start, Mar vin was incredible, and picked off first Hein zer, then Brown. It was not easy, but once in front he held a five-second margin over Brown. Etienne Bax/Ondrej Cermak were also making progress through a very fast pack, eventually becoming involved in a race-long fight with Heinzer/Betschart. The Swiss was having none of it, losing out to Bax, only to reclaim the place. This went all the way to the flag with Bax eventually nailing third ahead of Heinzer.

Gert van Werven/Ben Van Den Bogaart were another crew playing catch-up and fought through to fifth place ahead of a great ride by the young Latvian Daniels Lielbardis/Kostas Beleckas. The French Prunier brothers were next, with Gordejev/Stupelis strong for Esto nia.

Great Britain sat well in the table behind the impressive Netherlands team after the close of play in this race.

Quad Race Two (Groups B/C)

The two USA riders in this one were keen to make up the disadvantage from Wienen’s earlier breakdown, He was destined to start further down the order, whilst his team mate

Joel Hetrick was away with it at the front. As Wienen made his way through, he had a good fight with the hard-charging Norwegian Chris Tveraen and title holder Ireland team member Dean Dillon.

These four riders were opening a gap, with the USA riders clearing off.

Team Italy and team France were strong behind and began to close on Dillon. Dafydd Davies from team GBR retired at half distan ce after being very much in the top ten mix. Turrini had caught up well after stalling on the line and was also making his presence felt.

Eight laps in, and Tveraen sat firmly third, just as a red flag came out for a big crash on the fast downhill. A result was declared, with the USA one-two.

Sidecar Race Two (Groups B/C)

It had become decidedly colder after lunch, with the large crowd enjoying life in the beer tent and food facilities spread around. The much-publicised rain had not materialised, and extensive track repair work was carri ed out during the lunch break. This race was for Groups “B/C” so there was new talent on show.

An amazing hole shot by Koen Hermans/ Robbe de Veene gave them the platform for a gate to flag victory in impeccable style. That did not reflect the terrific scrap going on behind. After yet another big crash off the line involving Team Italy, all the main players were safely through and fighting hard. Varik/Kun nas gated fourth behind Stuart Brown/Josh Chamberlain. The British crew did not have such a clear run as the earlier race and had to work a bit harder. They were passed by Varik, but that was it. Jason Van Daele/Eduard So enens were attacking fiercely in second place and looked very strong once more. Despite Gert Van Werven coming from eighth place through to fourth, he could not close the gap to Brown/Chamberlain, and that is where he finished. A strong ride by Brett Wilkinson/Joe

Millard had us all thinking he might ride home in tandem with Brown/Chamberlain, but it was not to be. A very rapid Gert Gordejev and Kaspars Stupelis made great progress, defea ting Wilkinson/Millard on the penultimate lap.

Jason Van Daele slowly faded but still scra ped home in ninth place.

There was little more to be said of Hermans/ De Veene other than their victory was imma culate. In the post-race interview, Koen said “once we got the holeshot we could ride our own race, and that is what we did”.

The Netherlands were heading for team ho nours once again, but with one race to go, team Great Britain sat second.

Quad Race Three (Groups A/C)

The new kid on the USA block Bryce Ford grabbed the lead in the third and final quad race chased by the rapid Belgian Randy Na veaux and Kevin Saar. Joel Hetrick, Ford’s te ammate was caught on the hop and had to make his way past to set after his young com patriot. It took him two laps to make his way to the front, but with five laps gone he was still playing second fiddle to the youngster.

Chris Tveraen had been shoved wide after the start and had to do his own share of fighting back. This he did but caught up in a mid-race battle with Patrick Turrini and Harry Walker for Team GBR, making hard work of further pro gress.

Lap seven and Joel Hetrick was now in the lead, pulling out four seconds from Bryce Ford and a brilliantly fast Randy Naveaux. He in turn, was well clear of a disappointed Kevin Saar, who with one mechanical breakdown al ready, was not having his best weekend. Chris Tveraen then got stuck in, making up ground as he passed Turrini to move sixth behind Harry Walker. At the same time, Naveaux clo sed on Bryce Ford, and threatened hard going into the closing stages. The top four were mo ving away from the chasers, and down the field, McLernon and David Cowan for Ireland were well adrift in tenth and eleventh places. Two laps to go and it was job done for Joel Hetrick, with a seven second lead.

Sidecar Race Three (Groups A/C)

The third and final race in what had been an amazing weekend needed to be a good one to close proceedings. Barring mishaps, team Netherlands was on target to retain the title. It was going to be hard to beat them, but Kert Varik was going to give it his best shot as he led the pack from the word go. He charged away with full steam, followed by the omni-present Marco Heinzer/Reudi Betschart. This Swiss crew had been a thorn in the side of the establish ment all weekend, and that was not about to change. Etienne Bax/Ondrej Cermak were four th, but not for long. They steamed by Varik on lap three, with Vanluchene/Bax doing the same thing one lap later. The pattern was then set, with Koen Hermans playing catch-up into fifth.

Daniel Lielbardis/Kostas Beleckas claimed sixth initially, and as the race wore on, converted that to fifth after overhauling Heinzer. At the front, Vanluchene twice passed Bax, only to be reta ken moments later. This was a copybook ride by the new world champions, and as the race came to a close, they dropped Marvin away slightly. Varik stayed strong, with Koen Hermans climbing to fourth with his stand-in passenger.

Brett Wilkinson/Joe Millard did not start well but chipped away lap after lap gaining ground. A

very creditable seventh place, with Dan Foden/ Nathan Cooper eleventh, meant that team GBR finished runners-up. This was a great result and shows great promise for the new young team members.

SALVINI AND TSANKOV VICTORIOUS IN FRANCE

The French crowd was treated to two more superb YZ bLU cRU FIM Europe Cup SuperFinale races on Sunday at Saint Jean D'Angély, which saw Italy’s Nicola Salvini and Bulgarian youngster Dani Tsankov storm to victory in the YZ125 and YZ85 races.

Sunday marked the end of the hu gely successful 2022 YZ bLU cRU FIM Europe Cup SuperFinale, whi ch saw more than 100 riders battle it out for a spot at the unique bLU cRU Masterclass event at the end of this year.

Salvini was given first gate pick after qualifying just 0.055s ahead of fellow Italian Maurizio Scollo, who showed promise in last year’s YZ125 SuperFinale at Mantova, where he finished fifth.

The Italian duo proved to be the class of the field at the MXGP Cha rente Maritime event, with Salvini just edging ahead in the early sta ges. Scollo set a blistering pace behind though, but while running less than a second adrift of his rival the #329 rider fell on Lap 6, drop ping 10 seconds behind the leader. Scollo picked himself up and qui

ckly began reeling in Salvini, setting the fastest lap in the process. On the final lap, he was back to within a second of the lead but fell again, seeing Salvini claim the YZ125 Su perFinale victory.

After a mammoth effort, Scollo was still able to salvage second overall, with Denmark’s Nicolai Skovbjerg completing the podium having overtaken Spain’s Salvador Perez earlier in the contest.

Perez eventually came home in fourth, ahead of Norwegian young ster Adrian Bolviken, both showing strong progress compared to last year’s event. Amalie Møller Gertsen won the award for Top Female Rider, with youngest rider Emile De Baere enjoying a stellar outing to finish in side the top 20 overall.

In the YZ85 race, Luis Raoul San teusanio was given first gate pick after dominating yesterday’s Time Practice. The Swiss rider took the early lead ahead of French young ster Tim Langue and Tsankov, who was sidelined on Saturday after a technical problem.

Despite this, the Bulgarian was qui ckly on the pace and moved up to

second on Lap 2, before putting pressure on race leader Santeusa nio. Tsankov then moved into the lead after his rival fell and dropped to P2, losing 16 seconds.

This allowed Tsankov to cruise to victory, going one better than he did in the YZ65 class last year, while Santeusanio consolidated a second-place finish to mark an im pressive YZ85 SuperFinale debut. Langue rounded off the podium pla ces in third, beating Spain’s Iker Diez and Israeli youngster Ori Stark, who had been running in the podium po sitions before a fall early on. Swedish rider Tuva Nelson came home in 11th overall, seeing her pick up the Top Female Rider trophy, whi le the youngest rider, Kay Zijlstra of The Netherlands, put in a stunning performance to go eighth overall. In each of the YZ bLU cRU FIM Eu rope Cup SuperFinale categories, the top-three finishers and two wild cards will receive an invite to the bLU cRU Masterclass that will take place in November in Spain. There, one YZ125 rider will win a place in a Yamaha-supported EMX125 team for 2023, while the top performing YZ65 and YZ85 youngsters will earn added support from Yamaha Motor Europe for the next season.

ROUND 2 IN

Vysoké Myto, Czech Republic, ho sted the second round of the S3 Eu ropean Championship.

Local hero Matej Kokes won with ease both heats, followed by the German Lasse Welsch.

Great race for the rookies Catorc Giani and Jivko Ivanon, who this se ason pass from the SM Junior to the S3. The French made it double in front of the Bulgarian, who finished twice second.

REPUBLIC DOUBLE ROUND IN BULGARIA

Fantastic and renowned all-asphalt Super moto track in Pleven, Bulgaria, was the host of rounds 3 and 4 of the SM Junior European Championship under the perfect organiza tion of the Bulgarian Motorcycle Federation.

Round 3 saw championship leader Giani Ca torc (KTM) from France won by big margins both races. Local Bulgarian riders Radostin Mihaylov (KAWASAKI) and Jivko Ivanov (KTM) joined Catorc on the podium in second and third place respectively.

In round 4 Mihaylov won the first race in front of Catorc, who had some problems with a crash in mid-race. Even so, he did a good second race and claimed the race, overall and won the Championship. Third for the overall was Ivanov.

Vysoké Myto, Czech Republic, ho sted the second round of the SM Junior European Championship.

In race1 rider Matěj Kokeš riding for MIRA Racing Team on Husquarna was going to stay as dominant as throughout the whole Saturday. However, since the very start the re were no hesitations anymore. Kokeš, who has benefited from the perfect knowledge of his local cir cuit, managed to start well, and was stretching the lead ever since until the end of the race, lapping first ri der already after 5 laps. At the fini sh line, Kokeš a was well ahead by a gap of 8,8 seconds to the second rider – German Lasse Welsch. Also Welsch, riding Husquarna, had a calm race, not being endangered by anyone. In the 3rd place, Spaniard

Ramon Godino on his Yamaha ma naged to finish the first race with a gap of 3,018 seconds to Welsch.

In race2 all the riders were fighting hard for the championship’s points, nevertheless Matěj Kokeš mana ged to pull away from the pack and rode to victory on his own. Behind him, the German Lasse Welsch and the Spanish Ramon Godino were fighting for second position. Even tually, with two laps to go, Ramon Godino, who was the Championship leader, had to retire from the race due to technical issues. Husqvarna Matěj Kokeš, seized the victory in Race2, as well as overall. Lasse Wel sch finished second in Race 2 and also overall. 3rd place in Race 2 and also overall was then taken by Lat vian Mathias Vetkin (TM).

Round 3 of SM Junior started with a cle ar win of Czech rider Matej Kokes (HUQ VARNA) in Race 1, who managed to build and maintain a good gap to second pla ce Estonian rider Mathias Vetkin (TM). In both races third and fourth places were respectively for Estonian Rasmus Ebel mann (HUSQVARNA) and Spanish Ramon Godino (YAMAHA), while Vetkin mana ged to pull a win in the second race to tie Kokes in points and win the overall, as Kokes finished right after Vetkin.

Things got interesting in SM Junior Race 1 as Vetkin made a mistake in the warm-up lap and had to start from the pitlane as the last rider of the race. Kokes took profit of the mistake and ma naged to get out in front and lead without any big emotions. But Vetkin did a wonderful catch-up race and managed by the end of the 10lap race to reach second place in front of Ebelmann, Godino and Austrian Christoph Steiner (KTM), who were third-fourth and fifth in the race. Vetkin managed to win the second race and the overall in front of Kokes, while the 3-5 place came in the same order.

SM Junior Race 1

The first race of the Junior category was full of emotions and twists. Czech rider Matej Kokes (Husqvarna), author of the pole position, was awarded a penalty at the start of the race. After the first cor ner Mathias Vetkin (KTM) took the lead of the field followed by Ramon Godino (TM). Vetkin battled it out with Kokes and than ks to a solid race pace and a mistake in the off-road was able to leave his rival behind.

Vetkin won the race and classified in front of Ramon Godino and Matej Kokes. Home rider Andrea Benvenuto classified fourth.

SM Junior Race 2

The second race of the SM Junior category was full of action. At the start three riders pulled away leaving rivals behind. Matej Kokes (Husqvarna) led the race and handled rival Mathias Vetkin (TM). Championship leader Ramon Godino clas sified third. The three riders were the protagoni sts of an audacious battle. Godino remains the red plate holder in the Championship standings, but Matej Kokes got closer to the Spanish rider with only a 2-point gap. The two rivals will fight for the victory at the final race of the Champion ship, scheduled in France in mid-October.

ITALY HOSTED THE FIRST EDITION EVER

The first edition ever of the E-Bike European Enduro Cup was raced in a warm and sun ny day in Italy, in Pasquilio, the Apuan part of Versilia, in conjunction with the fifth round of the Italian Championship.

The race, organized with the collaboration of Off Pro Racing and Versilia Corse, had five special tests, three of which of about 8 minu tes, one of 7 and one of 5.

At the end of the brand-new challenge Paolo Bertozzi won the Overall with a time gap of more than one minute from Francesco Pe trucci, brother of the well-known MotoGP ri der Danilo Petrucci. Third position for Thomas Bonuccelli.

The Senior class was won by Stefano Passeri, the Junior by Luca Grossi, the E2 by Andrea Sassoli and the E3 by Andrea Di Luca.

MINI ROAD RACING EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP

After two years of lock down due to the Covid-19 pandemic the Mini Road Racing European Cham pionship was back in action hosted by the “Cathe dral of Speed”, the TT Assen in The Netherlands for a three-day event.

The event was organized together with a big na tional event on the main venue which attracts a very large crowd of spectators. The weather defied the heat wave dominating other parts of Europe and with sunshine and around 22 degrees set the perfect conditions for three days of racing and friendship for the young riders. 6 nations were represented and the Mini Moto classes were all present. The Mini Bike classes of

Ohvale and Honda NSF were absent due to a con flict of dates with other events.

The newly signed agreement with PMT, the tyre company, meant that PMT was present at the event supplying tyres for the riders and assistan ce for technical control: a well appreciated ser vice.

Racing in Mini Moto is the foundation of all the big classes and the future stars of Road Racing are developed here. Both qualification and racing were very intense, but the friendship between the riders is also an important part of developing the spirit of fairness and having fun with your sport. Here below the final results after three races.

PMT TYRES AND FIM EUROPE PARTNER UP FOR THE NEXT 3 YEARS

The FIM Europe is delight to announce the part nership with PMT Tyres for the next 3 seasons up to 2024.

The agreement ensures to the Italian tyres com pany a playing and leading role in the Mini Road Racing European Championship, in different clas ses with tyres of 6,5-10-12 inches. The whole pro duct line also includes 17 inches.

This season the Mini Road Racing European Cham pionship will be held at the historical TT Assen, in the Netherlands, on 5-6-7 August.

Headquartered in Aprilia, near Latina, the Italian Company was founded in 1990 from the passion of driving radio-controlled model cars and today is recognized as a leader in the design and pro duction of competition tyres, thanks to the suc cesses achieved in every category.

It all began in the 1980s when Alessandro Pausel li, followed by his father Umbro, began to try his hand at driving radio-controlled racing cars. Not satisfied with the tyres that the market offered at that time, Umbro used his skills to develop the first tyres made with rubber compound instead of a sponge. The first prototypes were made, as in the best traditions, in the home garage and with the contribution of all members of the family.

Soon, that intuition of Mr Umbro Pauselli, initial ly developed only to meet his son’s request, was transformed into a production activity performed with self-produced machinery and at an artisanal level.

In the early nineties, the first minibikes burst onto the Italian market, initially imported and then subsequently produced by the historic Mar che-based company Vittorazi Racing, led by the well-known entrepreneur Vittoriano Orazi.

From the collaboration with Vittorazi Racing, PMT began to design and produce tyres for the mini moto sector, immediately adopting what will be the distinctive character of all PMT production and the construction of the radial tyre rather than conventional.

This characteristic of PMT tyres will be, in the ye ars to come, the key element that will allow the company to establish itself as a leading manu facturer of small racing tyres.

The PMT developed the new production line de dicated to 6.5 “completely from scratch and all in-house. The machines, still in operation, are unique in the world.

SARA SANCHEZ WINS IN MISANO CIRCUIT

The fabulous circuit of MWC Marco Simoncelli at Rimini on the Adriatic coast of San Marino hosted the 7th round of the successful Women's European SS 300 Cup.

Despite rain on Thursday night, whi ch spoiled some of the qualification for the fastest of the Italian Road Racing Championship, the Women’s Cup could run both qualification and race under perfect conditions.

Pole position was taken by Sara Sanchez in the time 1’52.517, with Roberta Ponziani taking second and Josephine Bruno rounding up the first row.

Sara Sanchez ran a safe victory in 18’55.024. Ponziani was second with only 43 thousand of a second separating her from number three Josephine Bruno.

This result still leaves the cham pionship wide open since Neila came in fourth bringing her to a total so far of 154 points. Sanchez scored both 25 points for the victory and 1 point each for the fastest qualifying lap and the fastest race lap, so she is now close behind with 150 points. It will all be settled at the final event of the season in September at Mu gelo with a double round.

FIM Europe is pleased to announce that in 2023 the series will go from European Cup to European Championship.

3 FOR BEATRIZ NEILA

Double round for the Women's Euro pean SS 300 Cup, hosted in Italy at Mugello Circuit, for the grand finale of this 2022 season.

A great show with the presence of 9 Nations and 4 CONUs for a series that next year will officially become a Championship.

Race 1

Fast start for Spanish Beatriz Neila Beatriz and Sara Sanchez, followed by home-rider Roberta Ponziani. At the end of an amazing trio challen ge, Sanchez won race 1 and thanks to the best lap grab the leadership of the standing, leaving everybody breathless for Sunday’s final race.

Race 2

Once more the challenge was a fight between Neila, Sanchez and Pon ziani. In the final lap, at the exit of Bucine, Sanchez lead the group, but under the chequered flag Santos grab a flying win ahead of Ponziani (0,029) and Sanchez. Thanks to the second place in race 1 and the first in race 2 Beatriz Neila became Eu ropean Champion for the third time in a row.

DOUBLE WIN FOR DAWID NOWAK

Third round for the Supersport 300 Cup at Slovakiaring, Slovakia, with the perfect or ganisation of the Organizer, CMO, together with technical delegates and the track staff. On Saturday was raced qualifying and Race1, while on Sunday Race2. Double win for the Polish rider Dawid Nowak, thanks to an impressive pace in both the heat. Behind him the Czech Da niel Tureček in Race1 and Patrycja Sowa in Race2. Double third position for the Italian Guido Borselli.

GUIDO BERSELLI CROWNED CHAMPION

The round at Brno Circuit concluded the 2022 se ason of the Supersport 300 Cup that saw Guido Berselli wrap up the title at the end of the race two.

The fifth and last event of the calendar, hosted in the Czech Republic, was raced in mixed weather conditions, as Friday’s free practice sessions were wet, while Saturday’s qualifying and Sunday’s ra ces on a dry asphalt. This did not hinder the spirits of the fans who showed their support.

The strong result of Berselli, with a win and a second position, also meant that he secured the gold medal in the championship standings, while Patrycja Sowa tri ed until the last to grab the title. The Polish rider had to settle with the silver medal, despite the victory of race two and the second position in race one. Double third for home rider David Filipin, third in the standing too, but out from the fight of the title.

GUIDO BERSELLI IS EVEN MORE LEADER

Penultimate round of the Supersport 300 Cup at the well-k nown Circuit of Grobnik, Croatia, with a strong heat and high temperatures.

Championship leader Guido Berselli from Italy ruled race 1 ahead of Patricia Sowa from Poland and Etien Kantar Bozic from Slo venia.

In race 2 Filip Juranek from Czech Republic won in front of Ber selli and Sowa.

Thanks to a win and a second position Berselli is still leader of the standing with one race still to go.

BLU CRU EUROPEAN CUP

At the fourth round of the Yamaha R3 bLU cRU Eropean Cup at the Donington Park circuit, Italy’s De vis Bergamini starred, winning both races to reignite his championship chances, as he now sits second in the standings.

Championship leader Enzo Valen tim finished twice on the podium, alongside pole-sitter Andrea Pizzoli in Race 1 and fellow Brazilian Kevin Fontainha in Race 2, seeing him head into the second half of the se ason with a 26-point lead.

From second on the grid, Bergamini charged out front at the start of Sa turday morning’s opening race, with Pizzoli slotting in behind. However, with eight riders having to take long lap penalties, the order was quickly mixed up and it was Australia’s Ar chie McDonald who hit the front.

Having served his penalty early on, Valentim was already back to the lead by the end of lap four, which he held for most of the race. However, on the final lap Bergamini managed to overtake the Brazilian and went on to take his second victory of the season.

Valentim held on for second, with Italy’s Pizzoli rounding out the top three. Indonesia’s Wahyu Nugroho was an impressive fourth from 16th on the grid, with McDonald scoring his best result of the season in fifth.

Fontainha ended the race in sixth, just 0.045s ahead of Thailand’s Krit tapat Keankum, who scored his first points of the season. Poland’s Ju rand Kusmierczyk was eighth, with Spain’s Carlos Gimenez and Brazil’s Gustavo Manso rounding out the top 10.

In Race 2, Pizzoli maintained his lead off the start, but as the race settled in quickly became a 12-rider batt le for victory. Manso and Valentim also took turns out front throughout the early stages, before Bergami ni made his move. With two laps to go, the #13 rider took the lead and defended valiantly on the final lap to take a second win of the weekend. Fontainha was second for the four th time this season, with Valentim scoring his sixth podium in third. Nurgoho and McDonald were fourth and fifth once again, with Kusmier czyk and Pizzoli both receiving pe nalties to be classified in sixth and seventh.

Brazil’s Eduardo Burr was eighth overall, with French youngster Cle ment Rouge and Gimenez ninth and 10th.

MANSO AND BERGAMINI SHARE SPOILS VALENTIM CLOSES FIGHT ON TITLE

Brazil’s Gustavo Manso took a mai den Yamaha R3 bLU cRU European Cup victory in the opening race at Most, with Italy’s Devis Bergamini winning Race 2 to keep his slim title hopes alive.

Standings leader Enzo Valentim moved one step closer to the title, taking a pair of podium finishes to move 41 points clear of nearest rival Bergamini with one round to go.

Having taken his third consecuti ve pole position on Friday, Andrea Pizzoli immediately found him self losing places, as those behind slipstreamed through on the run into Turn 1. Valentim assumed the lead early on, before Bergamini fired through.

The Italian had to serve a ride throu gh penalty for dangerous riding at the end of the Donington race, dropping him to the back of the field. Meanwhile, Pizzoli, Valentim and Manso each traded places out front, with Australia’s Archie McDo nald also in the mix.

Eight riders took turns out front throughout the 11-lap contest, with Valentim taking the lead as they he aded into the first chicane on the final tour. Manso was able to find a way past his fellow Brazilian thou gh, and despite losing out in the last corner, he powered back through across the line for his first-ever Cup win.

Valentim ended the race just 0.008s behind in second, with Indonesia’s Wahyu Nugroho producing a stun ning ride to claim his maiden po dium in third.

Kevin Fontainha made it three Bra zilians in the top four, with McDo nald initially crossing the line ahe ad, before a penalty for track limits

dropped him to fifth. Pole-sitter Piz zoli eventually finished sixth, ahead of Brazil’s Eduardo Burr who took his best result of the season.

French youngster Gregory Carbon nel was penalised a position and dropped back to eighth, with fellow countryman Clement Rouge ninth. Thai rider Krittapat Keankum fini shed just outside of the lead group to round out the top 10.

In Race 2, the Czech crowd witnes sed another thrilling contest, with 13 riders battling it out victory. Manso took the lead from Pizzoli heading into Turn 1, but it was Valentim who once again led the field by the end of lap 1.

Nugroho, Bergamini and Pizzoli took turns out front in the early stages, with Polish youngster Jurand Ku smierczyk also entering the mix.

As they filed past the start/finish line on the penultimate lap, it was Fontainha who headed the field, but on the run out the first chica ne, Kusmierczyk powered through. Bergamini then fought his way into the lead, but Valentim just beat him on the run to the line, dragging Ku smierczyk with him.

It looked like the title was sealed, but the top two were then demoted places due to track limits on the fi nal lap, seeing Bergamini promoted to victory, with Valentim second and Kusmierczyk third.

Behind the podium finishers came Pizzoli, with Nugroho fifth, having also been penalised on the final lap. Rougé was sixth, ahead of Race 1 winner Manso and Carbonnel. Burr and McDonald also received penal ties, seeing them classified in ninth and 10th.

YAMAHA R3 BLU CRU EUROPEAN CUP

ENZO VALENTIM CLAIMS 2022 TITLE

In a dramatic final round of the 2022 Yamaha R3 bLU cRU European Cup, raced at Magny Cours Circuit, Fran ce, Enzo Valentim was crowned Eu ropean Champion. Fellow Brazilian Kevin Fontainha edged out Devis Bergamini in the battle for second in the standings, while Gustavo Man so closed the season with a double victory.

Valentim’s title win means he will contest the 2023 FIM Supersport 300 World Championship with full support from Yamaha, while Fon tainha earns a wildcard ride and, alongside Bergamini, a 50 percent discount for the next Yamaha R3 bLU cRU European Cup campaign. Having qualified on pole position this weekend, Valentim led the 22 young riders away in Race 1, holding his advantage as they filed through the first corner. However, while the #39 rider battled with Manso and Eduardo Burr on the sixth lap, title rival Bergamini made contact with

Valentim’s Yamaha R3, causing him to fall.

He was able to pick the bike back up and continue outside the points, while Bergamini continued to battle inside the podium places, needing to finish third to keep his title hopes alive.

Meanwhile, Manso pulled clear out front as the battle for second in tensified between Bergamini, Burr, Grégory Carbonnel and Fontainha. Manso went on to take his second victory of the season by almost three seconds, while the four behind fought right until the end. French rider Carbonnel initially fini shed second but dropped to third after a penalty for track limits, pro moting Fontainha. Bergamini’s slim hopes of taking the title were over, as he crossed the line in fourth, which became seventh after a thre e-second time penalty was applied. Burr finished fourth, with Austra lia’s Archie McDonald beating home

rider Clément Rougé in the battle over fifth. British youngster Bro dy Crockford was eighth, ahead of Thailand’s Krittipat Keankum and Italy’s Diego Palladino. Valentim did eventually finish the race, albeit outside the points, but with a 32-point advantage over Ber gamini the title was sealed.

In the final race, 11 riders found themselves in the hunt for victory in an epic scrap out front. Valentim, Manso and Indonesia’s Wahyu Nu groho emerged as the main conten ders, and on the last lap it was the Race 1 winner who claimed victory once again, after diving to the inside of a five-wide battle into the penul timate corner and holding off those behind on the run to the line. Nugroho ended his season with another podium in second, whi le Carbonnel celebrated another third-place result. Valentim capped of his title-winning campaign in fourth, ahead of McDonald and Ke ankum.

Burr was seventh, with Fontainha’s eighth-place result enough to see him jump ahead of Bergamini, who se six-second penalty dropped him to 11th, behind Poland’s David Nowak and Rougé.

MICHAEL GIROTTI CROWNED 2022 WINNER AT MONTMELÓ

After taking victory in the second of two thrilling races at Circuit de Bar celona-Catalunya, Italy’s Michael Gi rotti was crowned the 2022 Yamaha R7 SuperFinale winner, earning him a brand-new Yamaha R7 bike. Girotti’s 34 points across the two races was enough to see him win the FIM Superbike World Champion ship supporting event by four points from Spain’s Eric Molina, while Ar gentina’s Matias Perez completed the first overall R7 SuperFinale po dium.

LEON MADSEN IS THE NEW CHAMPION!

In the Final 4 of the SEC – the Speedway European Championship, held in Pardubice, Czech Republic, the Dane Leon Madsen made up the loss to Janusz Kołodziej and grabbed the gold medal of the Individual European Championship. Silver went to Kołodziej, while bronze to Mikkel Michelsen. Before the start of the meeting, Kołodziej was on the lead of the interim classification, and already in the first series he increased the advantage over Madsen. Both were scoring well, and ended the regular phase with 11 points each. That result meant, they compete in the 'last chance' heat, in which Madsen crossed the finish line as first, while Kołodziej was fourth. In the final, Madsen needed to win or to be second to win the title. And it happened. In the last heat of the whole series, Madsen took the first place and became the Individual European Champion. Silver went to Janusz Kołodziej. The representative of Poland won rounds in Gustrow and Łódź, and he came to Pardubice as the leader of the interim classification of the series. He was fighting not only for gold, but also for the spot in SGP 2023. The fourtime Polish Champion scored 11 points in the main phase, and it seemed like the fate of the title will be decided in the final, in which he could compete

with Madsen. Overall, Kołodziej took the last place in barrage and didn't advance to the final. The fans witnessed a fascinating battle for the bronze medal. Patryk Dudek came to Pardubice with four points ahead of Michelsen, but this year's title defender reduced the gap in no time. After three series, the Dane was the only undefeated rider, and after the regular phase, he advanced to the final, while Dudek finished the meeting with only seven points. At the end, Michelsen won the meeting, scored 14 points and left Pardubice with bronze.

The fifth rider of this year's Individual European Championships is Dominik Kubera. The representative of Poland secured his spot in the next year series, racing only in three of four rounds. The battle about TOP 5 lasted till the very end. It was a great meeting for Rasmus Jensen, who after four series overtook Bartosz Smektała and was fifth, but fantastic Kubera scored 12 points and secured his spot in Tauron SEC 2023.

The Semi Final 2 of the European Pairs Speedway Championship took place in Macon, France, in the east of the country. The meeting was run with the track in the perfect condition and good weather conditions in front of a warm audience. The sprint for the first place was in balance since to first heat between Great Britain and Sweden and only in the last heat the five points of Great Britain let them win the meeting. Third place and last qualify to Norway.

Out of the Final Italy with Paco Castagna, who has done the maximum individual score of the meeting, while a new generation of French young riders finished fifth ahead of Netherlands.

27TH AUGUST SLANGERUP, DENMARK

Last event for the European Pairs Speedway Championship in Slangerup, about 30 km north-west of central Copenhagen, in the Capital Region of Denmark.

After the domination of Latvia in Semifinal 1 and Great Britain in Semifinal 2, in this last race home riders from Denmark had the best in front of Czech Republic and Poland.

A thrilling final event in front of a great audience despite the hard weather forced to postpone the race.

Great weekend for the European 250cc Youth Speedway Championship with the SF1, SF2 and Final in Liberec, Czech Republic.

Home hero Adam Bednář won SF1 ruling all heats. Czech fans who gathered on Saturday morning at the Letná stadium in Liberec experienced a fantastic racing day. Halfway through the competition, the first ruts appeared on the track, but this did not affect riders’ attitude.

The Danish Mikkel Andersen won all races. Even if he was not the fastest at the start, he quickly caught up with his rivals and ended the race with a huge advantage. The rider from Hamlet’s country thus won the well-deserved title of the European 250cc Youth Speedway Championship.

The Polish Kevin Małkiewicz got the silver medal, while favourite local audience Adam Bednář finished third.

19 PAIRS SPEEDWAY CHAMPIONSHIP

Riga, the capital of Latvia, hosted the sin gle round of the European U19 Pairs Spe edway Championship.

The city is the largest is the three Baltic states and lies on the Gulf of Riga at the mouth of the Daugava river where it me ets the Baltic Sea. Founded in 1201, its hi storical centre is a Unesco World Heritage Site noted for its Art Nouveau/Jugendstil architecture and 19th century wooden ar chitecture.

The race, well prepared by the Riga Spe edway Club, went very dynamically and smoothly thanks to the perfect condition of the track and the Referee, Mr. Pawel Slupski.

It was a tight fight until the last: at the end the pairs from Poland claimed the victory ahead of Latvia and Sweden.

QR1 for the European U19 Individual Spe edway Championship in Slovakia, in the town of Zarnovica, situated in the Hron river valley, in the west part of the country.

The race day started with a heavy rain and even if in the afternoon it stopped, the parade and 1st heat needed to be po stponed. Thanks to the excellent job of club members all the heats were comple ted with no other setbacks.

At the end of a thrilling challenge with many overtakes, after 20 heats Jakub Krawcz took the win but one additional heat had to be run for the 2nd place. In heat 21 Polish rider Damian Ratajczak got the silver medal ahead of Erik Bachhuber.

QR2 of the European U19 Speedway Championship was raced in a sunny Pl zen, Czech Republic, about 90 kilometres west of Prague in western Bohemia and fourth most populous city in the country. Wiktor Przyjemski (Poland) was the best winning ahead of Francis Gusts (Latvia), second after an additional run-off heat, and Norick Blodorn (Germany).

The Final of the European U19 Speedway Championship will be held on September 17th in Nagyhalasz, Hungary.

Final round for the European Under 19 In dividual Speedway Championship in Na gyhalász, Hungary. A thrilling open-doors event, even more challenging due to the weather conditions, with a huge audience of over 2.000 spectators.

After Heat 12 two riders could be the new Champion: Jesper Knudsen from Den mark and Mathias Pollestad from Norway. In Heat 15 the two riders met face to face: after the second lap the Danish could get a bit of gap on the Norwegian, winning the heat. In Heat 14 Casper Henriksson from Sweden secured with a race win the third overall position.

Due to the bad weather conditions, the Jury decided to stop the meeting after Heat 16.

ROUND 3 AT ICONIC ISLE OF MAN

The third round of the Trial European Champion ship took place at the iconic Isle of Man, in Great Britain. A fantastic race with good weather and a beautiful scenery, with all the sections just by the beach. The soil is mostly volcanic rocks whi ch make grip very good: the sections level was very good in all the classes.

Day 1

First off from the paddock was the International Women Class. It was a battle for the win betwe en the Manx rider Summer Peters and the British Holly Dixon. In the end Summers took the win. In the Youth International the British Harrison Lightfoot started out best leading after the first lap, but the Italian rider Etienne Giacuzzo finally took the win with only 1 mark, making very good laps 2 and 3.

In the Youth Championship, the leader George Hemmingway started with a knock out on the first lap with only 1 mark lost and after the last lap he took a comfortable win. Big fight for the other steps of the podium between 3 riders: Xurxo Neo (Spain), Jonathan Heidel (Germany) and Jonas Jørgensen (Norway). It was a fight until the last section: Neo finished 2nd and Jørgensen 3rd. In the Women Championship, there were all top riders from championship so far. Naomi Mon nier (France) started best with only 1 mark lost at the first lap, ahead of Vivian Wachs (Germany) on 4 and the Manx favourite Katlyn Adshead on 6. On lap 2 Adshead made a clean lap. After lap 2 Katlyn was in the lead with Monnier 2nd and Denisa Pechakova (Czech Republic) 3rd, just 1 mark ahead of Vivian. On lap 3 both Adshead and Pechakova took 1 and Naomi 5. The final result was a win for Adshead ahead of Monnier and Pechakova.

Day 2

ding after the first lap, but Clark sorted everything out and learn of his mistakes. He only took 1 mark on lap 2 and no marks in lap 3 for another safe win in front of Floessel and Roman Vandas (Cze ch Republic) 3rd.

Sunday’s race saw Saturday Women winner, Katlyn Adshead, on top of the podium in the In ternational Class with the same marks as Chris Madigan, but with more cleans.

The Junior Class was very tight with a lot of ri ders in only a few marks. The winner Max Sun dberg (Sweden) had his first podium of the year, after missing the 2nd round due to sickness. The Polish championship leader finished 2nd and An dreas Jørgensen (Norway) third.

European Championship’s riders make a very in teresting competition. On the first lap Jarand M. Gunvaldsen (Norway) and Pau Martinez (Spain) were in the lead with 4 marks lost but with Jo nathan Heidel (Germany) 6th and Marco Mempör (Austria) and Harry Hemmingway (UK) 7th. On lap 2 Martinez took 2 and was leading with 6 mar ks, Mempör clean the whole lap and advanced to 2nd with 7 and Harry with 8 marks lost. On lap 3 the top 3 riders only lost 1 mark each, keeping the standings from lap 2 with Martinez as winner, Mempör 2nd and Hemmingway 3rd.

ITALIAN ROUND CROWS THE CHAMPIONS

The Trial European Championship raced round five, the last of this 2022 season, in Piazzator re, a small mountain village in the north of Italy and it hasn’t disappointed with a huge turnout of fans ensuring an incredible atmosphere across the weekend.

In the super-competitive Women’s Champion ship, a fourth position behind the podium was enough for Naomi Monnier (Gas Gas) from France to claim the title. In Piazzatorre the best was Huldeborg Barkved (Gas Gas) from Norway, who won ahead of British Kaytlyn Ad shead (TRRS), second in the standings. Third step of the podium for Alice Minta (Scorpa), from Italy, while the bronze medal went to Ger man Vivian Wachs (TRS).

There was a comfortable win in the Over 40 Cup for British rider Dan Clark (Beta), who fi nished the season with a 100% victory record. Already with four victories to his name this year, he topped again the podium ahead of Staffan Floessel (Beta), from Finland, and Ro man Vandas (TRRS), from the Czech Republic. The Finnish and the Czech finished second and third in the standings too.

In the Junior Cup Jone Sandvik (Sherco), from Norway, had an impressive race winning ahe ad of home riders Giacomo Brunisso (Beta) and Mirko Pedretti (Beta). The fourth position was enough for Polish rider Milosz Zynowski (Gas Gas) to conquer the Junior title. Silver medal for Sandvik, while German rider Jarmil Smith (Beta) took the bronze one with a final ninth position.

Spanish Xurxo Neo secured the second position in the stan ding with Johannes Heidel (TRRS) third. In the European Championship amazing win for home rider Lorenzo Gandola (Beta). Just behind Harry Hemingway was second, secu ring the European Championship title only two weeks after becoming the first ever Trial3 Wor ld Champion. On the third step of the podium Pau Martinez (Vertigo) from Spain, second in the standing ahead of Austrian Marco Mempor (Gas Gas).

Trial Commission Chairman Mr. Magnus Liljeblad presented the prize giving ceremony declaring the great success with a full 5 round series held for the first time in several years due to the Covid Pandemic.

ROUND 08TH - 11TH SEPTEMBER SANTA POD, GREAT BRITAIN

Fourth and final round of the Dragbike Euro pean Championship and third for the Dragbike Junior Cup in Santa Pod, Great Britain. An exciting weekend, despite the very hard weather conditions.

FIM-E Top Fuel Bike

After qualifying all eyes were on the opening round match-up between Rene van den Berg and Neil Midgley with the former needing a win to keep his championship hopes alive but the SharkAttack rider’s troubled weekend conti nued with the drivebelt departing barely tur ning a wheel in the burnout box. This meant that Rikard Gustafsson wrapped up his third European title thanks to qualifying points and a competition solo in the quarter finals.

With that out of the way, the event win was the main focus. Gustafsson earned his final spot with a 5.8623/252.25mph to up his own Eu ropean speed record in defeating Eric Richard mid six from his funnybike (Richard carding a nice 6.5981 in the opening stanza sugge sting he’s getting rapidly to grips with the new chassis). On the other half of the ladder, Neil Midgley clocked his third five of the we ekend with a 5.9741 in that unopposed opener and then clicked off a shade too early for the comfort of the Cannon Motorsports/King Ra cing collective in the semifinal but still taking the winlight over Al Smith with a 6.1266/195.47 to a 6.3503/215.11. Smith had earlier carded a 6.2986/224.64 over a PB from Mark Smith in a lose out effort 6.7548/195.44. The final was run in the gathering gloom with Midgley ahe ad from the startline with a great 0.0981s RT to around the 1000 foot mark when Rikard crui sed past on yet another 250mph clocking with a 5.9350/250.99mph to a 6.2219/172.43 to put a lid on the 2022 championship season.

FIM-E Super Twin Bike

After sitting around for quite a few hours, the final of Super Twin was the only pass for the class during eliminations, but Marcus Chri stiansen rumbled to a superb 6.2112/230.37 (the latter being the second nitro fueled speed record of the event and a clear sign the braking issues the Danes were working around are very much a thing of the past). Martijn de Haas shook quite hard after leaving the startline, but what is of note is how wired both riders were at the tree with a 0.0340s to a 0.0306s pair of reaction times from winner and runner up respectively. Marcus had alre ady ready wrapped up his third championship in a row and will be back to extend that next season.

FIM-E Pro Stock Bike

The troubled season for Pro Stock Bike con tinued to the very end of the year with Martin Newbury pushing back in the opening round of eliminations after championship opponent Aswin le Noble was knocked out of conten tion by Martin Bishop with a 7.6615 to an ailing mid eight. Beneficiary of the solo was Bertrand Maurice who finally managed to get a run of substance with a 7.3538/171.09. The final would also prove to be a single for Maurice when Bi shop stepped off his bike before arriving at the startline and another 7.3 from French rider took the event win.

FIM-E Super Street Bike

The four rounds for the Super Street class was full of twists and turns pret ty much from the off. Mathias Bohlin’s champion aspirations were extinguished after a very vertical launch handed the round win to Mark Hope’s 7.1271/202.57. Daniel Donat Lencses (6.7463/221.21), Alan Morrison Jnr (6.9884/207.07), Garry Bowe (7.0342/208.18), Mogens Lund (6.9751/206.13), Steve Venables (6.8431/205.11) and Jake Mechaell (6.9786/207.06) all progressed, the latter at the expense of class stalwart Steve Wood in his final European event. The quarter-finals threw the championship door open a fair bit as Lencses span off the startline while Mor rison Jnr scooted to a 6.9339/213.09. Mo gens Lund kept pace with a 6.9415/207.92 in defeating Bowe and Mechaell dropped off a bit with a 7.1324/209.95 to get by Hope. Venables had a bye into the semifinals but a massive oil fire erupted just after hal f-track and continued someway down into the shutdown area which left the former champion somewhat crispy but largely un damaged thanks to his Vanson leathers. The semifinals thus saw Mechaell take the green and push back to maintain his champion ship aspirations, while Lund carded another consistently quick 6.9265/214.10 but lost out to a big PB from Morrison Jnr with a 6.8358/212.82.

The trophy run off was a simple equation, Mechaell wins and he took the champion ship, Mechaell loses and Lencses stays in the points lead. Again the gloom saw both riders nailing the tree with a 0.0860s RT from Mechaell and a 0.0318s from Morri son Jnr in his first FIM final. Morrison Jnr then stretched his advantage as the Pro tek tuned Busa punted out another PB with a 6.8255/211.80 to Mechaell’s va liant 6.9142/216.13 leaving Lencses ahead by less than a round of racing in the 2022 championship.

With the Cup title decided in Hollie King’s fa vour before the event started, the challenge was on to see if she could be stopped from sweeping the season. But after defeating Anouk Burgering in the opening round in a very tight race, it was Meg Talbot’s chance to pick up her first event win of the season with a 8.2227/80.22 on a 8.15 dial-in to King’s 11.3356/55.63 on a 11.22 dial.

ROUND 3 IN FINLAND

Third round of the Enduro European Championship in Sipoo, Finland.

Day 1

On the first day of the Borilli European Enduro Championship 2022 in Sipoo, Finland, local hero Eero Remes won on his Husqvarna: the Finn has already collected three World Championship titles in his active career and, although he actually wan ted to hang up his helmet, he couldn't resist the temptation: "I only live 20 minutes from here and I know the terrain and the conditions well. It would be a shame not to have taken the chance to race" he said after the competition. At first it didn't look like Hein had the advantage, because in the de manding extreme test the small rider got stuck in the long stone field and lost more than 40 seconds, which dropped him to sixth place overall. But Re mes continued to fight his way to the front and was actually able to snatch victory from his compatriot Eemil Pohjola, who had been in the lead until then, by less than a second in the very last special test. "I got stuck on the logs again in the last special sta ge, but I was still faster than Eemil" he commented on his success. Pohjola is no stranger to this, ha ving already been European champion in 2019. At least there was no Finnish guest entrant in third

place in the overall standings, but the current le ader in the European Championship, Belgian Erik Willems, who finished less than three seconds behind Remes: "I rode pretty much at the limit and therefore crashed a few times too much. No se rious crashes, more slips, but even with that you lose time. Besides, I'm pretty tired, I was still sick in June and I still have a bit of a training backlog to make up for”.

However, he remains in front in the champion ship, especially since his fiercest rival, the Briton Dan Mundell, dropped out with a technical pro blem in the very first special stage: when landing after a long jump, his front wheel had lost half of its spokes. The Beta rider did not crash, but could not continue.

While the hosts took the first places in the overall classification and almost all classes, Frenchman Clement Clauzier was able to prevail over his Ita lian rival Manuel Verzeroli in the youth class of the youngest riders. However, GasGas rider Verzeroli remains in the lead of the championship. There was no Finnish victory in the women's race either: the leader in the European Championship, Nieve Holmes from Great Britain, won ahead of Ma rie Holt Vilde from Norway and extended her lead.

Day2

Even after guest starter Eeero Remes as a local hero won the second day, Belgian Erik Willems retains the overall lead. The Husqvarna rider was even snatched second place on the day in the very last special test: Briton Daniel Mundell pushed him into third place in the overall standings of day two.

It took Mundell a little while to get going on Sunday: "After I had dropped out on the first day, I obviously couldn't get to know the special stages as well as the other riders, who had completed three rounds each. For me, especially the first lap was difficult be cause the tracks had changed in the loose ground, which I couldn't consider before. But every lap went a bit better", the Beta rider was happy about the double success afterwards, because besides the second place in the overall standings, he also won the E3 class that day. Due to his retirement on the first day, however, he is missing important points in the championship, so that in addition to the overall championship-ranking, he has now also slipped to second place in the E3 class behind Dietger Damia ens.

But with his furious attack in the last special stage, he had also relegated the Belgian to second place in the day's standings. Nevertheless, Damiaens is almost satisfied, because he was clearly better on the road than the day before: "Of course we made some changes to the settings after yesterday, but I still can't say what the reason is that I'm so far ahead in the overall standings again now."

Of course, the Finns used their home advantage again on the second day of riding. But this time they were not as dominant as before because the inter national riders were able to adapt quickly to the spe cial conditions: besides overall winner Eero Remes (who of course also won E2 class) Peetu Juupaluo ma could still win in the Junior 2 class as well as the former European Champion Emil Pohjola in the E1 class. Also in the seniors almost the same picture as the day before, where Marko Tarkkala won ahead of the Italian Alessandro Rizza and the Slovak Martin Gottvald. After yesterday's technical retirement of former European Champion Arne Domeyer, his com patriot and team mate Christoph Lessing pushed him from third place in the championship.

In the women's race, Norway's Vilde Marie Holt sto od at the top of the podium for the first time: With a day's win and second place on the previous day, she took her first overall victory of the weekend! She also benefited from the technical problems of the leader in the championship, Briting Nieve Holmes: her chain jumped off three times, which she had to repair du ring the stage. Because the women had already rea ched the end of their strength on the strenuous course and the demanding extreme test on the first day, the distance for the women was shortened by one lap. The men had also skipped the last special stage and were thus able to finish the competition before the onset of rain, which would have made the surface particularly slippery.

The battle for the Championship is not over: the final will be on 29 and 30 October in Rüdersdorf, Germany.

The last seasonal event of the Bajas European Championship took place together with the Baja TT Sharish Gin, raced in Reguengos des Monsarez and Maurao, Portugal, in the last weekend of Sep tember.

The race took place in the Alentejo region, well-k nown for wine and olives: 3 days of action with a prologue test of 9,25 km on Friday, two sections of 65 km and 150 km on Saturday and again the section of 150 km on Sunday.

After 500 km on hard gravel roads and terrain around Monsarez Castle and Alqueva lake, the Por tuguese riders ruled the race, making the challen ge for the standings even more thrilling.
