“L
ast night I had a dream,” Bruno confided to his friend Alfred, the honey-coloured teddy bear sitting next to him on the shelf in the toyshop.
“Something told me not to forget my heart’s desire.” “I didn’t know you had a heart desire,” said Alfred, more confused than ever. “I have always wished for a boy of my own and for a bed to sleep on, instead of this shelf.” said Bruno. And without saying another word, Bruno closed his eyes. He shut his ears to every word and sound that filled the air, and concentrated on leaving the toyshop for a new life, in a new home, with a wonderful boy of his own. And so it was…
P
lucked from the quiet of the toyshop. All Bruno could see now were the walls of white paper of the bag where he had been put into.
Bruno stretched his arms above his head, pulled himself up and looking out he realized that the one who was taking him far away from the toyshop was a grown man, not a boy. “Where are you taking me?” Bruno demanded. “I… I can’t believe this! “Did the teddy bear just speak?” the man asked out loud. He couldn’t believe how lucky he’d been with his choice of such a magic gift for his nephew. “I’m taking you to London. You are a present for my fourteen months old nephew, Andrew.” And only then Bruno said to himself how happy he was, crying tears of joy.
I
t was more than love at first sight when Bruno first met Andrew, and he knew that he and this boy were meant to be together, forever!
Andrew had a sister, Florentina, and the dark-haired girl was pretty and always smiling. Both children had their own room, but something else was on that landing, a trap door on the ceiling, the only way up to the attic. Bruno remembered the first time he had gone up to the attic with Florentina and Andrew. Bruno was facing the huge train set at the center of the attic. “That’s the Duchess of Gloucester,”Andrew said pointing to a deep burgundy steam engine.“And the black one is Princess Elisabeth,”. The attic with the train set was one of children’s favorite place to be.
