A happy creek sings his songs while flowing forward day and night, filling the valley with the echoes of his music. When the sun rises, it smiles at him. When the moon rises, it also smiles at him. In his cr ystal-clear eyes, everything in the world is as fresh and happy as himself.

2

3

The creek keeps running and keeps playing around. One moment he pats the colorful pebbles on the shore, and the next he brushes the heads of the grass. At times he would twist around the floating leaves, and at other times he would tickle the tadpoles that ran after him.

4

5

The creek giggles his way through the valley. If a huge rock stands in his way, he simply jumps over and keeps going.

6

7

Nothing can stop his flow. He sings with a crystal-clear voice and the echoes in the valley are also clear, helping others to forget their fatigue and sadness. 8

9

The creek runs for a long time in the narrow valley before coming to a bend. There stands a dried tree stump and a patch of brown grass.

10

S e e i n g t h e c re e k r u n n i n g t ow a rd s him, the tree stump sighs and says, “Hey! What’s the hurry? Why not t ake a break!”

11

The brown grass also says, “Yeah! Don’t tire yourself out. Why don’t you stay here!” Casting a glance at them, the creek smiles and says, “No! I will never stop!”

12

13

In no time the creek left them behind and keeps on running. A village appears and the watermills are waiting for him to turn.

14

15

The creek runs along tirelessly. He is joined by other creeks and is growing bigger and bigger.

16

17

The creek now grows into a stream, still singing day and night while running ahead. He is always so energetic, cheering to the fields on both sides.

18

19

He lifts up the rafts and the heavy wooden boats and pushes them on. Nothing can stop his advance.

20

21

A crow flies with him for a little while and can’t help asking, “Hey, little stream! Where are you heading to in such a hurry? You’d better think about it. There is nothing good up ahead.”

22

23

The stream remembers that he used to be a small creek. He smiles and says, “I won’t listen to you! I am not going to stop!” Soon the stream is running ahead of the crow.

24

25

A dam appears up ahead, waiting for the stream to push the generator. The stream runs on tirelessly. Other streams continue to join him and he is growing into a big river. 26

27

The stream, now a big river, sings in a low voice and continues to flow. H e h a s b e c o m e ve r y strong and has saved up a tremendous amount of energy. 28

29

He looks at the mountain peaks hidden in the clouds and greets them in a loud and deep voice. 30

31

Now he can easily raise turbulent waves. He lifts up huge ships, helping them speed through the water.

32

33

The large river flows on. The sand that is carried along by the waves is feeling tired and asks, “Hey, big river! Where are you going in such a hurry? You have traveled a long way so why don’t you take a break!”

34

35

But the river remembers that he used to be just a small creek. He smiles and says gently, “No! I can’t stop!”

36

37

The big river flows on. He has passed by countless prosperous cities and affluent villages and has done many things for their people before he finally comes to the seaport.

38

39

The big river flows on and on. Finally, the immense blue sea is waving joyfully. It pushes up white foam and sings out to all directions. He can’t stop for a single second.

40

41

On the ocean floor lies a shipwreck that’s covered with shells. Tired of the endless motions of the sea, the ship asks impatiently, “Will you rest now?” 42

43

The ocean remembers the past and says with a crystal-clear voice like that of the creek, “Rest? Absolutely not! His waves still go up and down endlessly.

44

45

The moon rises and smiles at him. The sun rises and smiles at him. The ocean is now even more enthusiastic. He is constantly in motion, going up, forward and in all directions.

46

47

Countless water droplets jump up towards the blue sky. The huge ocean is still singing the song of the creek, “Never rest! Never rest!” The song of the creek will never end.
