Mujeres y Mujeres (Women & Women): Photography Exhibit Opens at the National Hispanic Cultural Center ALBUQUERQUE – The Cervantes Institute at The National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) is happy to announce the opening of a photography exhibit named Mujeres y Mujeres (Women & Women). The exhibit is curated by Blanca Berlín and features the work of five artists who exemplify some of the best in contemporhttpary Spanish photography. It displays the smooth forms of the female body as seen by Isabel Muñoz; the perplexing androgyny of artist Beatriz Moreno’s work; the superimposed images of Gabriela Grech that convey mental & emotional confusion; Ouka Leele’s metaphysical “Mater Dolorosa” fiction; & Soledad Córdoba’s vision of the body as a limitless source of creation. This exhibit marked the opening of the Spanish Presidency of the European Union in the United States this past January in Washington, DC. The exhibit, opening Thursday, February 3, 2011, is part of the NHCC’s Women and Creativity programming which is a month-long series of events that celebrates women’s creativity across the disciplines which begins this March. “We are thankful for the Cervantes Institute’s contribution to this month long celebration” said NHCC Executive Director Estevan Rael-Galvez. “We value our partnership with this prestigious institution and enjoy the year long programming that they bring to Albuquerque and the NHCC.”

Mujeres y Mujeres opens with a free reception that is open to the public on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 6:30 pm in the Pete V. Domenici Education Center. The National Hispanic Cultural Center also hosts yeararound educational, literary, music, dance and theatre productions and events. For a complete list of current and upcoming programs, visit www.nhccnm.org. The NHCC is part of the State of New Mexico’s Department of Cultural Affairs.

A High-Tech Way To Manage First Annual The Stress Of Tax Time Sweetheart Stroll

(NAPS)—Both individual tax- payers and smallbusiness owners can find tax time a stressful season—and with good reason. It’s estimated that self-employed people spend about 57 hours each year complying with the tax code. That’s time they could be spending growing their business or tending to their family. According to the IRS, individual taxpayers can find return preparation so overwhelming that about 60 percent now pay preparers to do it for them. An additional 29 percent use tax software, with leading software packages costing $50 or more. For many, just choosing the right accountant can be stressful. That’s because, according to the Government Accountability Office, there are about 90,000 tax and accounting firms out there to choose from. Fortunately, there are practical steps individual and small-business owners can take to reduce stress—and possibly their tax burden as well. Here are some tips: • Don’t put it off. According to the IRS, more than 10 million taxpayers procrastinate every year and end up filing a tax extension. Misery may love company, but you don’t have to keep putting off filing, particularly since there is a new online service that can help find the expert assistance that’s right for you. • The right expert can make a difference. According to the National Taxpayers Union, in 2007, nearly 37 million taxpayers forgot to claim a tax credit due to overwhelming tax regulation changes. Many taxpayers recognize that finding an accountant they can trust may actually save them money.

ALBUQUERQUE NM—Celebrate Valentine’s Day with your loved one at the Sweetheart Stroll in Historic Old Town on Saturday, February 12, 1 – 9 p.m. Take advantage of “sweetheart deals” from many merchants, and enjoy the special Valentine’s Day dinner packages at participating restaurants from 5 – 9 p.m. Some of the shops will remain open for late strolling and shopping. • Take advantage of the latest technology. Much in the same way that online services help consumers select movies to rent or a travel destination, there is a new online service designed to help taxpayers select the right accountant or tax preparer. Called Teaspiller, the company also employs an individualized accountant reviews system. Maintained by the community itself, the reviews system ensures that both accountants and customers are matched based on a host of critical factors, including unique tax preparation needs, specific industry characteristics, location and size. In addition, the service allows users to transfer essential tax files, conduct conversations with the accountant, file and securely exchange payment for fees—without ever stepping foot into a tax preparation office. To learn more, visit the website at www.teaspiller. com.

Galleries and shops will have extended hours, and the event will feature live entertainment throughout the afternoon and evening. Don’t forget to stop by the specialty candy shops to buy your sweetheart a sweet chocolate treat!
