Wild West Fest’ in Las Vegas - First Stop in Tourism Department’s ‘Catch Billy the Kid’ Summer Scavenger Hunt

L

as Vegas, N.M. (July 20, 2011) — The New Mexico Tourism Department is kicking off its “Catch the Kid” summer travel promotion in one of the wildest of the wildest old west towns – Las Vegas, New Mexico – site of this Saturday’s (July 23, 2011) Wild West Fest, and home to one of 10 clues that will give your honorary sheriff “posse” a shot at the $10,000 reward for capturing Billy the Kid. Las Vegas is a fitting locale. Billy the Kid spent the night after his capture at Stinking Springs in a jail about a block northwest of Old Town Plaza in Las Vegas; and Sheriff Pat Garrett and the manacled Kid boarded the next-afternoon train to Santa Fe from the old depot, just east of the railroad tracks beyond Railroad Ave. “Billy the Kid remains one of New Mexico’s most iconic and infamous characters,” said Monique Jacobson, New Mexico Tourism Cabinet Secretary. “I encourage everyone to join us in Las Vegas this Saturday. This is just the start of a great travel season in the Land of Enchantment.” Las Vegas will feature family fun at Lincoln Park from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., such as sheep shearing, a horseshoe demonstration, a chuck wagon, teepee, Western photo booth, carnival games, cornhusk doll making, military drill demonstrations, people in period costumes, and a disc jockey in the gazebo playing festive country music. Other activities include entertainment, booths, food and drink vendors, prizes, hay rides, a beer garden, live entertainment by three local bands. Special events include a free concert by Po’Girls, a folk group out of Canada, on the Plaza from 7 p.m. to midnight; free Billy the Kid movie at the Carnegie Library; and a special brunch lecture at the Plaza Saturday morning. Visit www.catchthekid.com for more information. On your way to and from Las Vegas, be sure to explore the history and wide open spaces of northeast New Mexico. Still visible are the deep wagon-wheel ruts left by those souls traveling the Santa Fe Trail from Missouri to our capital city. Explore the Army post established in 1851 at the Fort Union National Monument and the Indian Pueblo ruins at Pecos National Historical Park. Also on Saturday, Isotopes Park in Albuquerque will welcome the New Mexico tourism industry when the Isotopes take on the New Orleans Zephyrs. The event, which coincides with Fireworks Night, Dukes Retro Night and the Albuquerque Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, celebrates the start of the Catch the Kid summer promotion with giveaways and special activities, and gives baseball fans an opportunity to sign up a posse to search for the Kid. First pitch is 7:05 p.m. “We are turning the whole state into a real life video game,” Sec. Jacobson said. “If you have a smart phone, download the “Catch the Kid” smart phone app and get clues by visiting designated locations around New Mexico, like Las Vegas, that will lead to Billy’s hideout. The more clues you collect, the more information you will have about where, when and how to capture ‘the Kid.’ Players with smart phones can also collect loot and use it to buy vacations, deals or even meals online in the General Store section of the ‘Catch the Kid’ website, www.catchthekid.com.” If you don’t have a smart phone, you can still collect clues by taking a picture of yourself next to the clue poster and uploading it to your profile page.

Meeting And Exceeding Client Demands In A Digital World

D

eliverables: Every business has them, especially in small agencies, where several assignments are juggled at once and multiple projects are due to clients daily. Most are managed online or over e-mail. Take a creative professional at a design shop, for example, who is reconstructing a client’s entire website. Prototypes and mock-ups are drafted and numerous versions are exchanged constantly until the final is complete and the website goes live. Take the tax accountant during tax season, who sends many sensitive documents back and forth to clients for signatures, clarification on details and background. Bottom line: Everyone has important information that get sent often. For example, global communications firm Big Sky Communications often manages multiple projects at one time and relies on rapid content sharing to meet changing client requests. “The content we create is integral to our clients’ marketing and sales programs, so it’s vital that every last detail is perfect and final materials are delivered on time,” says Colleen Padnos of Big Sky Communications. With the massive amount of e-mails and attachments being sent around the Internet these days, however, businesses are vulnerable to the technical difficulties that come with “information overload,” which

could prevent their hard work from being delivered on time. In fact, recent research by Plantronics shows that the use of e-mail by professionals has increased 78 percent over the past five years, nearly 83 percent use e-mail as a primary communication tool for business—and nearly 57 percent say they’re overwhelmed by the volume. It seems pretty clear that the variety and rate at which people share and send information is not slowing down and that the volume and variety of content in businesses continue to explode as organizations create documents, e-mails, Web content, rich media assets and corporate records. Fortunately, there may be a way for businesses to send digital content easily while collaborating better internally, meet the high demands of clients and not get bogged down by the amount of information. The creator of Acrobat and Reader offers a new way to securely transfer files from one place to another without clogging in-boxes or sending extraneous messages back and forth to check on the status of a sent file. With the latest upgrades to its file transfer service, Adobe SendNow, users can send, view and securely access a variety of file types from anywhere. As Padnos says, “With Adobe SendNow, we have an easy, reliable way to manage, share and

collaborate on large files with clients everywhere.” These days, transferring documents is just the start. This is an age of sharing—no matter what device (mobile, tablet, desktop or laptop computer) or format (photos, video or audio) you’re using, your client, boss, even your mother expects it can get done and get done quickly. SendNow offers these capabilities and more. “We constantly develop a variety of video and multimedia content for our clients—anything from three-minute customer videos to interactive presentations and indepth customer success stories,” says Padnos. “We use Adobe SendNow

to reliably share large files, having confidence that our clients always have easy access to project content when and where they need it. We can quickly and cost effectively deliver up-to-date content to project teams for review and accelerate finalizing content to meet our clients’ tight deadlines.” Deliverables in the Digital Age should be nothing short of simple. With the right technology in place, small businesses, professionals and everyday users have the ability to transfer information in less time and avoid the challenges that come with sending large files—all with little or no cost. -(NAPSI)

Grants Help Moms Transform Into “Mompreneurs” According to Babson College research, women in the United States have been credited with starting businesses at nearly twice the rate of men, yet only about 3 percent of women-run businesses attract venture capital. A Huggies-commissioned study also cited access to financial resources (65 percent) as the No. 1 barrier preventing moms from turning their business ideas into a reality. Other significant barriers include risk of failure (43 percent) and not knowing where to start (36 percent). As Maria Bailey, mother of four and founder of working mother resource BlueSuitMom.com, explains, “Moms are some of the most inventive people I know; they develop great business ideas but lack access to the financial tools necessary to launch a business.” Bailey offers prospective entrepreneurs these tips to getting started: • Determine dedication level. Decide whether your passion is a business or a hobby to determine the time, money and resources that you are willing to dedicate. • Do your homework. Search the Internet and store shelves to see if your idea already exists. If so, think about how your product can answer a need that existing ones don’t. • Test the idea. Get the input of your target consumers by hosting an

informal focus group. • Write a business plan. Even if it’s a simple one-page outline, consider the following: What will you produce? How will you manufacture it? How will you market and sell it? What is your exit strategy for the business? • Find a mentor. Online communities of successful women can offer support, insight and guidance. • Discover capital in untapped sources. Look for unique funding sources such as brand-sponsored grant programs. Huggies offers grants, annually awarding a total of $250,000 to 12 mom entrepreneurs. Named “MomInspired,” the program provides resources and funding to women-owned business startups and new products inspired by motherhood. Leslie Espowe, one of the first grant recipients, recognized a parenting need and developed a solution with her handsfree, waterproof WateRoo infant carrier, now marketed under the Lucky Ducky Baby brand thanks to her grant money. To be considered for a grant, moms must submit an application online by June 30. Twelve individuals will receive $15,000 in funding to support their idea or business. Interested moms, 21 or older who live in the U.S., can visit www.HuggiesMomInspired.com to apply. -(NAPSI)

Recently Graduated? Registration Required (NAPSI)—Soon after graduation, young men who are 18 may find they need more than a diploma to get a job or enter a training program. Often, they find that they also have to produce proof that they have registered with the Selective Service System. Young men are required by law to register during the period of time beginning 30 days before their 18th birthday until 30 days after their birthday—regardless of where they live. Those who fail to register face the possibility of fines or prison or both. Plus, they will find that they must register to receive state or federal aid for higher education and be eligible for a federal job or a job-training program. Male noncitizens living in the U.S. must register to remain eligible for citizenship. Plus, some states demand proof of registration in order to receive a driver’s license. Fortunately, registration keeps getting easier and more convenient. It’s now possible to register online, at a post office, by mail or when applying for federal student aid.
