The whole house is just lovely, but if I had to pick a favourite it would probably be the main drawing room,” says Louise. “It’s very elegant, features a magnificent fireplace and it’s double aspect, so not only is it incredibly light and bright, but it also enjoys tremendous views of the grounds.”

Currently used as a dining room, this room has lovely views over the cottage garden. Seller Insight This imposing Victorian home, which is enveloped by two and a half acres of stunning gardens and grounds, is located in an enviable rural location just minutes from the affluent village of Abbots Bromley. “I can honestly say that it was a real combination of both house and setting that drew us to this property; for us it quite literally ticked all the boxes,” says Louise. “We’ve always adored Abbots Bromley, which is a real chocolate box village, but we didn’t want to be right in the thick of things, so being just a few minutes down the road, surrounded by all of this glorious countryside couldn’t have been more ideal. The other big draw was the sheer character of the house. My husband and I are extremely passionate about period homes and this one wowed us as soon as we laid eyes on it. It’s incredibly handsome, has wonderful proportions and it retains a great many of its gorgeous original features.” “Structurally the house was in excellent condition when we came here and offered all the space we could possibly want for our family, however the interior was a little tired and in need of some TLC and so during our time here we’ve given it quite the makeover. We’ve redecorated from top to bottom, a number of the rooms were completely re-plastered, we’ve laid new carpets upstairs and beautiful floor tiles in the large reception hall, and we’ve also created a very useful wet room on the ground floor. It’s now absolutely lovely throughout, very comfortable for day-to-day family life and the layout makes it wonderfully conducive to entertaining, because as well as two separate reception rooms we also have a fabulous open-plan main living area. It incorporates a large kitchen/diner, a snug and a magnificent oak garden room, and each room flows into the other so it’s a brilliant space for a gettogether and as a family we can all be together but doing different things.” “The house is just gorgeous, but the garden and grounds are a real standout feature of the property as a whole,” continues Louise. “We have a classic English country garden that was expertly designed by a previous owner so it’s wonderfully mature and there’s colour and interest all year round. However, it’s during the spring that it really comes alive; it blew me away the very first time I saw it in full bloom. We have rolling lawns, a small orchard where we like to sit and watch the sun set on a warm summer’s evening, a lovely big patio terrace and we also have two large paddocks that could be ideal for keeping horses. It’s totally idyllic here, wonderfully peaceful and our children have had space to run and play in an incredibly safe and secure environment.” “Within the house and grounds there’s an air of peaceful seclusion, and yet we’ve never felt isolated,” says Louise. “The village has a fabulous little school and a shop that caters for day-to-day needs; I tend to do most of my shopping in nearby Uttoxeter, but there’s also Ashbourne, Litchfield and Stafford all within easy reach. However, it’s the rural aspect that I think makes the location so wonderful. We can step out of the front door and literally walk for miles and we also have the reservoir just a stone’s throw away where we can go hiking, cycling or sailing.”* * These comments are the personal views of the current owner and are included as an insight into life at the property. I can honestly say that this has been the most wonderful family home and it has given us all a superb quality of life,” says Louise. “There’s so much that I’ll miss, but I suppose most of all it will be this beautiful setting. It’s such a tranquil spot and wonderfully private, and I can’t imagine there being a place with more beautiful views.”
