A Historic Gem: The Hayloft at Wiganthorpe Court
Nestled within the serene embrace of the six-acre expanse belonging to a former stately home, The Hayloft at Wiganthorpe Court emerges as a testament to rural elegance and historical grandeur. Tradition Meets Modernity
Step inside, and you’ll be greeted by the seamless fusion of tradition and modernity. Three expansive bedrooms, a cozy study, and a spacious main reception room beckon, providing an ideal sanctuary for both daily living and hosting gatherings. Meticulously upgraded with contemporary amenities such as new bathrooms and a modern kitchen, the home retains its timeless allure, adorned with meticulously restored coving and tastefully curated interior accents.
Our first impression of Wiganthorpe Court was one of paradise,” say the current owners of this stunning rural home. “Set within the six acre grounds of a former stately home, on the site of the original farmyard and stable block, the property is surrounded by gorgeous gardens, and is a lovely, quiet place to live.”
“The property has a rich history,” the owners continue. “Wiganthorpe Hall itself was built in the late eighteenth century, with interiors by the renowned architect John Carr. Although only the west wing of the house remains, a stone-built icehouse, fishpond and mound associated with it still survive within the grounds. Our home inhabits part of the original stable block, which we have since upgraded with new bathrooms and kitchen, restored coving, and redecoration throughout, all while retaining the character of the old building. We have three good-sized bedrooms, one of which is currently used as a study, and an immense main reception room spanning around 19 by 24 feet of open, spacious living accommodation, which is ideal for everyday life and entertaining alike.”
Outside, Number 3 Wiganthorpe Court has its own cottage garden to the front, as well as direct access to the beautiful grounds of the old Hall. “The lovely lake complete with rowboat and jetty is nothing short of idyllic when the sun is shining,” the owners say, “while the various streams provide a calming backdrop to a stroll around the gardens. Indeed, this is the ideal home for dog owners, with so much space for pets to run around – or children too, for that matter! With one way in and out of the estate, it is very safe and secluded here.”
The local area has much to offer, too. “The property is part of a small rural hamlet of just 14 houses, of which nine share the estate,” the owners say. “There are plenty of pretty villages nearby, with the historic city of York just 22 minutes away. Stately homes and castles abound within the area, with two castles within a 6 minute drive and another just a mile and a half away. All in all, this is such a historic, picturesque part of the country in which to live.”*
