COBWEB COTTAGE Cobweb Cottage is the quintessential English country cottage. With its thatched roof, charming faรงade and garden, softly bordered with mature shrubs and trees, it is a visual delight. The present owners drove through Broom village by chance, and saw and admired Cobweb Cottage. Their own house was already sold and they had found their next home, but the sale fell through. When the cottage came onto the market, they viewed and fell in love with the entire package, of the house, garden and village. They felt that fate had decided that Cobweb Cottage should be theirs.

Seller Insight Broom is a community-minded village, with clubs and societies and an annual village fete. There is an excellent farm shop, mainly selling locally-sourced meat and vegetables and The Cock is famous for being a pub with no bar. A highly rated bistro pub, The Black Horse Ireland is close by in a neighbouring village. There is always something in the district to fill leisure time. The Shuttleworth Collection at Old Warden Aerodrome is nearby, and there are numerous local rambles to be enjoyed, whilst the neighbouring village, Southill, has a superb tea room. This idyllic retreat is only a few miles from the market town of Biggleswade. There are excellent road links to Cambridge, Milton Keynes and Peterborough, all an easy drive away. There is a good rail service from Biggleswade to London Kings Cross, and the owners say how wonderful it is to return to the calm of the village after the noise and bustle of London. Cobweb Cottage began life in the mid-18th Century and grew from small worker’s cottages. Now it is a home full of period character, where exposed beams blend with modern comforts, to create rooms that offer a warm hospitality and a calm tranquillity. The farmhouse kitchen is the busy hub of the home, where everyone sits round the table for meals and conversation. The beam is an original and it is fascinating to think of all the people who have sat under it over the centuries and discussed the events of their day. When you walk into the lounge you sense the harmony of the beams, with the exposed brick fireplace that creates a further feeling of warm hospitality that you sense throughout the cottage. The master bedroom has lovely views from both windows and the owners presently use an adjoining bedroom as a convenient dressing room. Again, the beams add to the fascination of the rooms. There is a self-contained two bedroom annexe in the garden. This would make the perfect rental, home for a relative, or for a teenager to take the first steps towards independence. It has its own entrance and garden, and has proved to be very useful for the owners and the family. The garden is a further delight, where the large paved terrace and shingle are easy maintenance and a sun-filled attractive space. Enclosed by mature shrubs and trees, it has the air of a private, quiet oasis. Al-fresco meals are a pleasure, but it is also great to sip a glass of wine whilst watching an air display from Shuttleworth Aerodrome overhead. The owners say that Cobweb Cottage has been their tiny bit of heaven, far removed from the noise and bustle of daily life. They take away many happy memories.

The orangery is a modern and stunning extension. Sparkling natural light floods in and it is a pleasure to settle in one of the comfy chairs and look onto a winter garden, or throw doors open in summer to create an inside outside feel. The orangery and the lounge invite relaxation and are also superb, elegant entertaining venues.
