Oaklands is approached via electric gates onto a shared driveway. The front door leads into a lobby featuring exposed brick walls, a Velux window and a glazed door giving a view into the private gardens beyond. Door to study and internal door to garage.
Study
Linked but separate to the rest of the accommodation, a peaceful spot to get work done.
Open plan Kitchen/Living space
This spacious and inviting principal area has five Velux windows. The oak beams are in evidence with high ceilings and the windows and blinds are remote controlled.
The attractive bespoke kitchen has stone tiles and a central island, granite worktops and integrated appliances including a Miele wine fridge, French sink which includes filtered drinking water, two double ovens, a microwave, 5-ring gas hob and Samsung fridge freezer. Positioned next to the kitchen and accessed via the back door, a separate utility room offers further worktop space, units to fit a washing machine and dryer, along with lots more storage cupboards, boiler and eco water softener. Cloakroom with WC and hand basin.
The living space has a stylish and very efficient multi fuel “Barbas - Eco 500” stove. Clear glass picture windows are south facing and are able to draw in lots of natural light, giving attractive views over the gardens and fields and woodland beyond.
I long for the countryside. That’s where I get my calm and tranquillity…”
Emilia ClarkeThere is a complete peacefulness that washes over you when you arrive at Oaklands – the sound of the breeze, the glorious views of Brent Knoll and the unique property that sits within it.
Looking for a change from city life, the owners were seeking a property with a large garage and, during one property search, Oaklands appeared. It took them by complete surprise as it certainly had the ‘wow’ factor. Upon viewing, they entered what the owners call the ‘Great Hall’ (a kitchen/dining living space) and their jaws hit the floor, “my wife turned to me and said; ‘Don’t bother looking at any more houses, this is my home.”
And what a home it has been. The owners have loved their piece of tranquillity, the views and the incredible space the home has to offer. “The Great Hall reminds me of the Vikings due to its size – it’s 60ft by 30ft but there is a softness to it, which means it never feels cold and vast, but always welcoming. The views are perfectly framed by the large glass windows and natural green oak beams.” Even though the rooms are very generous in size, it is easy to keep warm thanks to the underfloor heating throughout and the wonderful multi-fuel stove, a great feature in the living area.
There is certainly an opulence about this property; you can tell that the architect has thought about every detail to maximise privacy while embracing the incredible countryside that surrounds it. The builder, renowned in the area, used handmade red bricks alongside the glorious green oak vaulted ceiling. There are mindful touches too, such as ramps as well as steps, making it ideal for anyone seeking a more accessible property.
Living in such a location, you will be blessed to see a wealth of wildlife as you sit and enjoy your morning coffee or evening tipple. You can watch the deer grazing, and badgers and foxes moving through the grasses and hedges. There is also a pond in the central courtyard filled with carp and goldfish, which is very relaxing to sit and gaze into.
On either side of the Great Hall are two wings; one houses the four bedrooms, two of which are en-suite, and the other is the main entrance, which is also home to an office space – in an ideal location if you work from home as it is completely separate to the living areas. Along from that is the triple garage, the feature that initially attracted the current owners. The original builder had the idea of turning this space into a two-bedroom cottage, so it has all services installed should that be of interest to you in the future.
The drive and parking area is vast, so should you convert the garage to additional accommodation, there is still plenty of space to replace it with a new triple garage if you wished. That is the beauty of this property, there is still plenty of potential for you to make it your own.
The property is in a rural setting but you are not too far away from amenities, with a village shop around a mile and a half away, and Burnham on Sea and Highbridge just two miles. Your nearest towns are Bridgewater, Western Super Mare and Cheddar, all approximately 8 miles away from Oaklands. If you need to commute, you can be at junction 22 of the M5 in around 5 minutes. It is also worth noting that the property isn’t on the Bristol Airport flightpath.
“I love country life, escaping the city of Bristol for cleaner air, it’s so quiet – it’s as though Brent Knoll provides a sound screen from the traffic beyond. This home is proof that you can buy peace, that’s what we bought here and we will be sad to leave.”*
