Situated on the south bank of the River Trent and surrounded by beautiful rolling countryside is the historic village of Repton, which as well as having a good array of shops and amenities is also home to the prestigious Repton School. Chestnut House is a very large and extremely attractive six-bedroom detached family home that occupies a sought-after location close to the school and the heart of the village, and boasts a huge south-facing garden.
“Over and above everything else, it was the property’s proximity to Repton School that for us proved to be the biggest selling point,” says Rebecca. “All three of our sons have been pupils there, and before buying Chestnut House back in 2014 we were finding the daily commute far too arduous. So, a house in the village was top of our wish list, however we also wanted a comfortable family home and, as we’d previously lived in the countryside, a property with plenty of outside space, and this one definitely ticked that box.”
“So, the setting was perfect, the garden was fantastic, but the house itself wasn’t exactly what we’d been looking for. It was quite small and dated, and so we decided to have it completely remodelled. We added a large two-storey extension, the layout was rejigged to give it a more open feel and it was also completely refurbished throughout. The initial work was done soon after we bought the house, but over time we’ve kept improving it. It’s now really spacious and it looks lovely throughout, and for us it’s been a fantastic family home.”
“The garden was definitely the second biggest selling point when we initially found the property. It extends to just under half an acre and incorporates a large patio and a huge expanse of lawn that’s surrounded by mature shrubs and trees, so the outlook is really leafy and green, which gives the feeling of being in the countryside. We’re not very green-fingered so I’d say it’s been designed to be both family-friendly and low maintenance, but there’s huge potential for it to be further developed should the new owners be keen gardeners.”
“The kitchen is definitely the hub of family life, but one of my favourite rooms is the main lounge. It’s a very large space, but on a cold evening, when the fire is roaring away, it takes on a really cosy feel.”
“Repton is a lovely village with a number of gastro pubs, a smattering of shops that cater for dayto-day needs, an Indian restaurant, a Chinese takeaway, and a fish & chip shop. We’re also just five miles from Burton and ten miles from Derby so everything we need is re latively close at hand.”
“The setting is definitely one of our favourite features of the property, and as well as having everything we need in terms of the school, shops, etc. we also love the fact that we can enjoy the great outdoors. To the side of our property is a footpath that leads straight out into open fields so we can go on lovely long walks – and it’s ideal for dog walking.”
“What will we miss? All of the above,” says the owner. “The house has been a fantastic family home and Repton has been a wonderful place to bring up our children.”

The large patio, which is conveniently accessible from the living kitchen and dining room bifold doors, offers space for a hot tub, with an outside shower - providing the ideal setting for al fresco gatherings or simply relaxing.
Moreover, a delightful garden room, complete with a canopy area to the side for BBQs, adds to the versatility of the garden.
