Seller Insight
When we first saw Heatherton, it was a small bungalow which had previously been extended into the roof space with a velux conversion, and was in need of some modernisation,” say the current owners. “But it was well proportioned and solidly built with a generous garden, so we saw the potential to transform it into a wonderful family home. So, to bring our vision to life, we rebalanced the layout of the rooms by converting the existing kitchen into a dining room and one of the bedrooms into an amazing new kitchen, extending to the front to create a utility room with an American style fridge/freezer and built-in appliances. When you come in through the door, people now gravitate towards the kitchen. We spend most of our time in there, both day to day or when entertaining around the large kitchen island.”
“We also built a very spacious rear extension,” the owners continue, “which is super insulated and energy efficient, with underfloor heating linked to an advanced solar system (which produces a significant income from the inflation-linked feed-in tariff). We also added a new boiler and oil tank. We made sure that the extension floor was level with the patio, so that the indoor space just flows through into the sunny garden to create one large indoor-outdoor entertaining space. The garden itself is fabulous for the whole family, with its wood cabin workshop, raised beds with mature planting, play area with trampoline and climbing frame; and even a chessboard patio. The most recent addition was a wooden al fresco outdoor cooking and dining area for summer parties and barbecues.”
This is the perfect party house, all year round. “New Year’s Eve celebrations always end up at our house,” the owners say, “and we have countless happy memories of children’s birthday parties as our son grew up here, from teddy bear’s picnics to discos, karaoke and pool nights in the games room. The biggest events were Jonathan’s 40th Birthday party with 120 guests and a bucking bronco in the garden, and a recreation of our Lapland wedding at the house, celebrating our marriage with family and friends in a magical winter wonderland.”
The local area has much to offer too. “The village school and Pershore High School have a good Ofsted rating,” the owners say, “and a new village shop has recently opened which is fantastic. There are various pubs and eateries nearby, and plenty going on at the church and village hall. Access to Birmingham and Bristol is easy from the new Worcester Parkway station, and to London from Pershore direct into Paddington. However, the best thing about the area is the wonderful walks, whether through the bluebell woods in spring or up and down Bredon Hill and the Malvern Hills.”*
