Wildcat House has been designed and built with a Canadian influence, beautifully presented with the living space at first floor level taking full advantage of its elevated position and large, wide windows allowing natural light. The property is deceptively spacious, boasting in excess of 2,700 square feet of living space arranged over two floors and parking is catered for by a double garage and gravel drive with electric car charging point. A short flagged path leads from the drive to the front entrance door which opens to a spacious reception hall, featuring exposed timber floorboards, a staircase rising to the first floor and providing access to the bedroom accommodation and family bathroom at ground floor level..

Seller Insight “Having spent many years living abroad in Africa, the Middle East and Canada we are very much influenced by our location. Wide open spaces, wonderful views and peaceful surroundings attracted me to this location. The property was partially built when I first saw it, so I took on the challenge of completing the build. The property is based on a Canadian design, which was inspired by my time living in Canada. With the plot being located on top of a hill, I chose a design that takes full advantage of its position. While thinking of a name for the house I discovered that the plot of land had originally belonged to a farm known as Wild Cat Farm, so I kept with tradition naming the property Wildcat House. The main reception room is warm and welcoming and has amazing views with windows to the east, south and west. It has plenty of space to accommodate our growing family yet cosy and intimate when the fire is blazing and the snow is falling. We planned to erect a ‘garden room’ on the west boundary of the property a few years ago. We have a documented response from Durham County Council from September 2014 stating that our plans did not require planning permission but would be covered by ‘permitted development not requiring planning permission’. We love the wonderful versatility of the space which is great when hosting parties and BBQs. We have held celebrations of all kinds and have delighted in sharing our home over the last 17 years with friends and family. As many as 60 guests have been accommodated mingling between the house and gardens. We held the wedding of my youngest son here. We put up a Marquee and invited 40 guests to join us for a wonderful day last year. The wedding photos were taken on the paved dining area, the garden was in full bloom and provided the flowers for all the decorations including the bouquets and buttonholes. The garden is a passion of mine, I created it from what was a building site and we now have lawns, shrubs, flowers, vegetable gardens, raised beds, hedges and climbing frames, as well as a greenhouse or two. I have named a couple of areas in the garden, mainly to help identify which space I’m talking about when directing operations, we have Babylon and Doha so named because they remind me of those places. Sunset here is the most glorious sight. No matter what the season, the west facing balcony always provides a perfect view of the sun going down creating a sky of many colours. It’s the most relaxing way to end the day and a fabulous excuse for us to keep up the tradition of a ‘sundowner’, a drink to toast the evening. We are very fortunate to be situated well away from significant light pollution that means anytime there is a meteor shower or comet or other celestial entertainment, we get a very good view from the balcony. Here you are surrounded by fields, horses and wildlife. Birdsong greets you each morning, owls hoot at night and the Cheviots can be seen on a clear day from just up the lane. You have lovely countryside right on your doorstep yet convenient access to local shops, pubs and restaurants. We are less than 10 minutes from Beamish with all the delights of the Open Air Museum and Hall and less than 15 minutes drive north you are in the Newcastle/Gateshead conurbation, the centre of Durham City, Newcastle airport and the coast are less than 30 minutes away by car.” *
