We bought this lovely property as a family holiday home and everyone who comes to stay always says it is the best ‘holiday home’ they have ever been to with its landscape setting, gardens and impressive sea views. Unfortunately, a change of circumstances means we have to pass the baton on to new owners and hope they can get as much pleasure from the house as we have.
Shanklin is a seaside resort including the impressive Shanklin beach that was winner of the Beach of the Year Award in the Countryfile Magazine in 2019. The Old Village is charming with its thatched cottages, independent shops, restaurants and pubs while the Shanklin Theatre provides a variety of professional and amateur shows for evening entertainment. There is a real feeling of community and, if you enjoy the ‘great outdoors’ there is nothing like a bracing walk with the dog or a cycle ride to Culver Down or Ventnor. You will also find suitable infant nurseries in the vicinity as well as two good primary schools. “*

Whether you are looking for a permanent family and/or inter-generational home or the ultimate holiday retreat, this superb detached property located in an elevated position amidst about an acre of well-designed gardens on Luccombe Cliff, is a stunner. It offers spectacular scenery with views of the sea from virtually every room. At the same time, not only does it back onto fields and the surrounding countryside, but you can also walk to Shanklin in 20 minutes so you have the best of all worlds.
This charming white painted house was originally built in 1925 and the external appearance is enhanced by the impressive chimney stack and varied bay windows. To the North West there is a long gravel drive leading past garages and workshop to a large enclosed parking area next to the house. To the East there are steps up to the original porch and through to the main entrance hall with its large storage cupboard.
The delightful, dual aspect sitting room has a painted beamed ceiling, an unusual angled bay window with French doors to the garden, a new eco log burning stove and double doors to the spacious lounge. When these doors are open it creates a wonderful area for entertaining but when closed the lounge could form part of an annex if required, as it is adjacent to a double bedroom with an en-suite shower and a secondary corridor with independent external access. The elegant lounge has a charming curved bay window and another new log burning stove as well as access to the garden room.
For anyone who enjoys entertaining the very light and bright kitchen has everything you need including a large inset range cooker, and contemporary units housing a fridge freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. The sink area is built into a wide box bay with windows all round so, even when you are washing up, you can revel in the surrounding scenery. The attractive dining area includes a large curved bay window so is ideal for a sociable circular table.
Upstairs there is a family bathroom and three double bedrooms with superb panoramic views across to the sea. These include one with a bay window, another with built in wardrobes and the delightful main bedroom with an en-suite shower room and French doors to a balcony.
The wonderful garden has been designed to accommodate the topography of the area and has three lawns at different levels surrounded by mature trees and shrub borders. There are large paved terrace areas that are ideal for outdoor entertaining and alfresco meals as well as a number of outbuildings including a guest suite with a double bedroom and shower room as well as a summerhouse, storage sheds and a carport. In season, the hydrangeas make an impressive show.
