Seller Insight A charming property in the pretty conservation area of Chaddesley Corbett and situated right in the heart of the quintessential English village, the Grade II listed 3 Batch Cottages is a true gem. Renovated over the years, it still retains many exquisite original features, including a wooden ‘cruck’ beam that goes up and over the staircase. It is suggested that Batch Cottages was originally three cottages and the current owner has done extensive work including extending the kitchen which now features a fabulous large bow window, putting in two new bathrooms, changing the staircase with beautifully crafted solid wooden balustrading and building a purpose built electric double garage to the rear of the cottage. A stone fireplace with beamed mantle has been restored to warm the cosy lounge, which is dominated by original exposed beams. New gable windows were also installed at the rear of the house, looking out onto the garden. “The house now looks pretty front and back” says Clare. The garden itself is easily maintained and neatly landscaped, with a seated patio area. “It is lovely in the summer” Clare says. “We would often sit outside in the evening and enjoy a glass of wine together and look at the garden.” Nature is ubiquitous, with the nearby Chaddesley Woods offering various conifers and deciduous trees. When they purchased the property, Clare was looking for a village cottage, while her husband wanted a pub within walking distance and a sense of community. Batch Cottages offers all these things and more. The historic village of Chaddesley Corbett, with its pretty eclecticism of architectural styles, boasts a butcher’s shop, hairdressing salon, boutique, florist, three pubs, a garden centre, a post office, tea rooms and a village hall. The racecourse is close by with its popular point to point course. Kidderminster is not far away for larger amenities, while London, Birmingham and Worcester are accessible by rail or the M40, M42 and M5 motorways. “The cottage feels like a very safe place to live” says Clare. “Chaddesley Corbett is a lovely neighbourhood with a vibrant village community. The neighbours are very friendly, and there are many activities and events in which to take part if one wishes, but one can still retain one’s own privacy. Lots of people have dogs, so a group of us often go dog-walking together in the woods nearby.” “We used to have a lot of parties at the cottage, but more often now I have my grandchildren to stay for the weekend. They love it here, especially playing in the garden!” These comments are the personal views of the current owner and are included as an insight into life at the property.
