LONGMORE ROAD

The ideal family home, the Sumner family looks forward to passing it on to a new family who can appreciate it as they have over the last forty years.

Refined

The property has six bedrooms, three reception rooms located over three floors and needs a full refurbishment programme. There are still original features in the property that could be restored to former glories with a sympathetic design. The garden of the property is a great size, and again has the potential to be even larger with the removal of some foliage. While it has not seen much use for entertaining, Pete believes that it would be a fantastic space for hosting both friends and families for garden parties.

Timeless

The front of the home, where these living rooms lie, is very well lit, benefiting from the sun for most of the day. Potential really is the key with this property, Pete notes, as with a little bit of restoration it could be restored into a fantastic modern family home. The character of the house is epitomised by the grand entrance hall, Pete’s favourite feature of the home. • • • • •

Charm

“The heart of the property for us was always the three main living rooms, as the kitchen wasn’t set out in such a way where we could all be together. However, the potential is there to turn the kitchen into a perfect kitchen/dining space, ideal for a family to eat and relax together”.

Character

The cornicing on the ceilings is a particularly distinctive feature, providing the rooms with a sort of grandeur unmatched by most.

Grandeur

Pete Sumner, one of Jim and Marie’s children, remembers the home very fondly. He notes that they had always loved the area, a sort of suburban idyll, and so to move only across the road was perfect. “It was just perfect for us”, the high ceilings and spacious rooms allowed the family as much room as they needed.

Location Jim and Marie moved with their ten children from a threebedroom home to the fantastic property across the street in 1967. This move was an incredible experience for the family, as they moved from a smaller property to this wonderful family home, and consequently they hold many fond memories of the house, and the lifestyle it allowed them to enjoy. The Sumners now hope to pass the home on to another family to enjoy. The house is located at the quieter end of the street, very close to Shirley High Street, providing every amenity one could ever need. With the train and bus stations nearby, as well as the motorway network, the house is ideally situated.

Solihull Historically part of Warwickshire, Solihull is one of the most prosperous towns in the English Midlands. In November 2013, the uSwitch Quality of Life Index named Solihull the “best place to live” in the United Kingdom. The motto of Solihull is Urbs in Rure (Town in Country). Solihull’s name is commonly thought to have derived from the position of its parish church, St Alphege, on a ‘soily’ hill. The church was built on a hill of stiff red marl, which turned to sticky mud in wet weather. Solihull probably came into being about a thousand years ago, as a clearing in the forest to which people would come to trade. The town is noted for its historic architecture, which includes surviving examples of timber framed Tudor style houses and shops. The historic Solihull School dates from 1560 (although not on its present site). The red sandstone parish church of St. Alphege dates from a similar period. Excellent communication links with the M42 (J4 and J5) which provides access to the M40 providing motorway access to London, the M6 and the North West and the M5 and the South West. Birmingham International Airport is a short drive away, as well as the hub of the Midlands rail network, the newly refurbished New Street. Solihull train station provides direct access to London Marylebone.

Birmingham

Lying at the seat of England’s Industrial and commercial heartland, the “Second City is the very model of a beaming cosmopolitan global city that sets the standard for others to mirror. Increasingly recognised as an important cultural hub with the Birmingham Royal Ballet based in the city, along with a magnificent and striking new library. Birmingham also boasts some of the best shopping in Europe with the superb Bullring Shopping Centre containing over 140 shops including a flagship Selfridges department store. The exclusive Mailbox development is host to a range of designer stores including Armani and Harvey Nichols.
