It’s also a house with a huge amount of character as it’s awash with an array of quite stunning period features, some of which are original and others that we have reintroduced to enhance the beauty and elegance of the house.” “Within the grounds we have what I call the Coach House. It used to be a very sad space above the stables, but I’ve since converted it into a lovely guest annexe with a green oak extension that overlooks the garden. I tend to use it as guest accommodation, but it would also make the most wonderful holiday let.” This elegant home is enveloped by just under four acres of spectacular grounds, which incorporate formal gardens, a tennis court and two generous paddocks. “The sweeping driveway brings you right to the front door,” says Joy, “which makes for quite an impressive entrance. The garden incorporates different areas, and we also have a beautiful old potting shed that I’ve restored as well as an oak Sun Room in which we have a hot tub. The whole space is utterly stunning and totally secluded.” “The drawing room was the very first room we looked at when we viewed the house and it’s always been my favourite,” says Joy. “It’s a very elegant space with a huge marble fireplace and two beautiful floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the room with natural light.” “Just next to the Coach House we have a beautiful old oak-framed barn, that as yet is undeveloped,” says Joy, “however we did have planning in place to convert it into an indoor swimming pool.” These comments are the personal views of the current owner and are included as an insight into life at the property. NEWPORT Newport is a market town in the borough of Telford and Wrekin and county of Shropshire. It lies some 6 miles north of Telford and 12 miles west of Stafford, sitting on the Shropshire/Staffordshire border. The town sits on a sandstone ridge to the west of the Aqualate Mere, the largest natural lake in the Midlands. The main street in Newport follows the Norman design, resulting in a distinctive long wide High Street, split into three parts, upper bar, lower bar and St Mary’s Street, with the centre of the high-street being the Puleston Cross and the 19th century Newport Market Hall. Despite being close to larger retail centres such as Telford, Shrewsbury and Stafford, Newport has retained a large number of shops, with St Mary’s Street keeping its charm by still using cobblestones and the majority of shops being small boutiques. St Mary’s is also the site of various markets and fairs such as the Olde Time Market, with over 50 stalls, and various farmers markets; these tie in with Newport’s indoor market. The town is also home to the annual Newport Country Show, recognised as Shropshire’s best one-day event for its variety of agricultural attractions and entertainment for the whole family. There is also a wide range of small pubs and wine bars spread up and down the main High Street of Newport. The Michelin rated, Fox at Chetwynd Aston is a contemporary gastro pub and can be found on the fringes of the settlement. Lilleshall Abbey ruins are to be found 4 miles from the town centre. They include a Norman west door and part of the front, considerable remains of the church besides, and traces of domestic buildings. Lilleshall Hall - formerly the country retreat and hunting lodge for the Duke of Sutherland, situated just two miles from the centre of Newport and is now home to the Lilleshall National Sports Centre. If education is a priority, the vicinity is blessed with a mixture of both maintained and independent schools to suit a child’s needs. Newport Junior School, Burton Borough School and Newport Girls High School provide a broad based curriculum in the maintained sector whilst Castle House School and Adams Grammar School, rated Outstanding by Ofsted, provide independent schooling.



SHREWSBURY Shrewsbury is a popular market town with over 660 listed buildings, including several examples of timber framing from the 15th and 16th centuries. The town has traditionally been known as the “Town of Flowers”, a moniker incorporated into many of the signs on entrance to the town via major roads, and the Shrewsbury Flower Show is one of the largest horticultural events in England. It is also famous for being known as ‘the birthplace’ of Charles Darwin. The town is also home to the Ditherington Flax Mill, the world’s first iron-framed building, which is commonly regarded as “the grandfather of the skyscraper” The historic town centre still retains its medieval street pattern and many narrow streets and passages. Some of the passages, especially those that pass through buildings from one street to the next, are called “shuts” (the word deriving from “to shoot through” from one street to another). Many specialist shops, traditional pubs and local restaurants can be found in the hidden corners, squares and lanes of Shrewsbury. The Parade has over 30 individual shops and not a high street name in sight. That’s left to Darwin, Pride Hill and Riverside Shopping Centres where you’ll find the likes of M&S and other big name brands. Shrewsbury Market Hall has been home to independent traders since 1965 and has everything you could imagine, from fresh fruit and vegetables and other foodie delights, to local arts, crafts and collectables. Or, if you want some fresh air try one of Shrewsbury’s markets in the Square. There are three main museums, the Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery, Shrewsbury Castle and the Coleham Pumping Station. Also, there is the Gateway arts and drama centre and various private galleries and art shops around the town. Located 9 miles (14 km) east of the Welsh border, Shrewsbury serves as the commercial centre for Shropshire and mid-Wales. The A5 and A49 trunk roads cross near to the town, and five railway lines meet at Shrewsbury railway station.



Location Longford Grange is situated in Brockton, a hamlet near Lilleshall, Shropshire. Brockton is close to Newport and yet offers complete privacy. Newport is renowned for its wide range of independent shops, Waitrose store, local facilities and excellent schools including Adams Grammar School and Newport High School. Further shopping facilities can be found in Telford and Shrewsbury. Other schools in the area include Castle House, Old Hall, Wrekin College, Shrewsbury School and Shrewsbury High School. Motorways Access to the main motorways via the A41 provides onward access to the M54 motorway or the M6 / M6 Toll Road. Railway Stations There is a fast train service to London Euston from Stafford which takes approximately 1 hour 17 minutes. Airports Birmingham Airport is 45 miles away which via the M6 Toll is approximately 55 minutes drive. East Midlands Airport is 63 miles away, via the A5, approximately 1 hour drive.
