Lifestyle A spacious family residence, home to Gavin and Katharine, their son, daughter, two cairn terriers and Buster the cat, this distinguished property lays on the outskirts of historic Stratford-upon-Avon. “We have lived in the property for seven years,” explains Gavin, “we had lived in London for nearly 20 years previously and fancied a change of scenery. This house on the outskirts of Stratford seemed to offer the peace and quiet of the countryside whilst being near enough to stroll into town without using the car. Katharine grew up in Stratford and her family had always lived either on Maidenhead Road or Avenue Road, so when we moved back we knew exactly what part of the town we wanted to live in. This was the only property we ever viewed and we just thought its position was unbeatable. It’s an unusual house. We both liked that it is quite distinctive and tall. Most people know of the tall white house at the end of Maidenhead Road - it's particularly useful when giving instructions to a taxi driver!” “The airy hallway was an instant hit when we first viewed the house,” recalls Katharine. “After years of living in London we found the tranquility of the house amazing. It's such a peaceful part of the world yet only a few minutes into the bustle of Stratford. In winter, the lounge has a woodburning stove, which makes it the ideal place to curl up and keep warm. On a Sunday in winter we will have a long walk and then all watch a film whilst the fire roars - the dogs particularly like it.” There are rural views over the fields to the side of the property. “We think the property has a perfect position. At the end of the road is Shakespeare's Birthplace and all the amenities of Stratford-upon-Avon, but next door is the Welcombe Hills, a stunning wildlife reserve, ideal for long dog walks with our dogs,” continues Gavin. The property ideally accommodates a large family, with space for both work and play. “Gavin often works from home as he finds he's much more productive there than in the office. However, we are both in London at least once a week and the new faster trains mean you can get to the capital in about an hour – and you always get a seat!” describes Katharine. “We have recently relocated our business and with the children having moved schools, a house move seems sensible since neither of us are keen on commuting by car after spending two decades in London,” concludes Gavin. The couple will be sad to leave the property and the town but family and business commitments draw them to a new chapter. “It’s been a fantastic home for us as a family and we will be sad to leave.” * These comments are the personal views of the current owners and are included as an insight into life at the property.
