Fe m a l e Ta t t o o Culture Fashion futures PHOEBE LLOYD A study of female tattoo cutlure and opportunities within the market
The Idea While suffering through another 4 hour session with chris on my right calf (a line and dot work cat), and watching my boyfriend sit uncomfortably and in everyones way, I thought, this could be much better. I wanted to conduct some research to prove that I was not alone in this oppinion. This also lead me to look into female tattoo culture in general.

I drafted a quick survey to see if there is room to improve and if there would be a market for a new tattoo parlour store concept. From my convienience sample of 100 respondants, around half had not had a tattoo, and around half were disatisfied with the parlours available near them. This survey was not detailed enough and for further research I would sample only women, aged 18-34, who do not have tattoos, as I think they are the target market. However, this reserach does show a gap in the market and an opportunity to improve.

Development
This research could be the foundations for a store concept, or for a publication on female tattoo culture, or even a trend book. I can see a lot of opportunity here for print.
