Sense
of
Place
My sense of place has developed from where I live now, how I have moved away from home to University and how you can feel uncomfortable with the unknown surroundings. Chloe Ormsby
Initial Research
My starting point was looking into graffiti as where I live now there is a lot of it and it can sometimes make you feel uncomfortable. Instead of looking at the typography within graffiti I explored the pictures and the stories that the graffiti conveyed. I explored lines and textures to create patterns and took my colour palette from the photograph on the next page, I liked how the blue, red, yellow, black and white worked together with the bold lines.
Concept Development I developed my initial research by pulling parts of my different drawings together to create my own graffiti style, I added colour from my colour palette, explored layering and symmetry and explored line drawings further creating: continuous line drawings and colouring in using line.
Typography Font inspiration was taken from the 3 drawings above, the eye became the centre of letters and the circle formed the flicks on the bottom of the letters. The final logo has been cover stitched onto the fabric and buttons added so it would be buttoned onto the clothing. The meaning behind ‘Fig2’: I have looked at reflection in my research which is why I’ve used the number 2 as I’ve reflected 2 images to create 1 and figure basically means what I have been drawing, animals, peoples, objects.
Print Development
To create my prints, I looked at layering again, the black line drawings with the bright colours over the top. And also at reflecting the original image to create ‘2’ (relates to my logo) which then would be repeated.
