Amazing Art at Australian Body Art Festival On 9 to 11 April, Cooroy hosted one of the most unique and interesting community festivals you could hope to find – the Australian Body Art Festival. Noosa Outback was the major event sponsor and we couldn’t have been more impressed with the amazing art on display. The entire weekend was a joyous celebration of all types of art forms and while it was a scaled back event compared to previous years, it still held all the magic and wonder that this festival has become known for. Some of Australia’s best body artists, face painters, visual artists and wearable art designers created and paraded their masterpieces across seven competition categories including two new categories – UV painting and Surfboard Art, both of which were amazing additions to the program.

the festival that were big hits! It was a huge effort, and it couldn’t have happened without all the volunteers, artists, models, sponsors and funding partners. We are looking forward to next year when hopefully we can get back to more normality and see an even bigger and better event,” said event manager, Danielle Taylor. The theme of Time Travel drew a wide range of interpretations across all competition categories and some truly incredible art emerged. There were winners galore with seven different art competition and grins galore as just over 4000 spectators enjoyed all that was on show!

As well as the competitions, this super charged art show had fantastic music on stage, rock painting workshops, sculptural art installations and market and food stalls throughout the festival site. The orange army of volunteers did an amazing job and pulled together a fantastic weekend for everyone. While the event was smaller than previous years due to covid restrictions, it still provided a fabulous showcase of art and the feedback from attendees has been glowing. “We were so happy to be able to hold the event after last year’s cancellation. All the hard work was definitely worth it and everyone had a great weekend and it all worked out better than we could have hoped for. There were smiles all around and there were a few new additions to

Face painting by Ayesha Henderson.

“The artists were under pressure to create their masterpieces within the defined time limits of the competitions, yet all had smiles on their faces and said they really enjoyed themselves,” Danielle said.

Their strong environmental ethic and ability to deliver quality results, starting from project proposal stage through to implementation and post implementation maintenance, is widely recognised. They have a wide range of services and integrate training and education into everything they do by providing vocational and technical training and community awareness raising programs. They work directly with landholders, local, state and federal government, private investors, schools, universities and catchment care groups in the Burnett, Mary and Sunshine Coast regions and also deliver presentations and workshops both locally and interstate. Whilst operating primarily at a grass roots level, Noosa & District Landcare also contributes at a strategic planning level on matters of state and national significance.

The HinterHub @ Noosa & District Landcare Group, Pomona The HinterHub is a retail shop and nursery run by Noosa and District Landcare Group. The HinterHub stocks the wares of local artisans, along with locally endemic native plants. It is a great shop to get a local souvenir or a gift with everything from earrings, necklaces, clothing, pottery, books, cards, toys, bags, soaps, and other natural personal care products, as well as just beautiful pieces of art focussing on our natural wonders of the Noosa Hinterland. All the wares are locally made from upcycled or sustainable natural products, all very unique and made with love and care. The HinterHub building itself is steeped in local history. It was the former Coles Creek School which was near Skyring Creek and was moved to its current site on the back of a timber jinker in the early 1960s. The Queensland Country Women’s Association used it as their centre until the mid-1980s. Later, Noosa Shire Council acquired the building for Noosa & District Landcare, which opened on the 18th March 1993. After 27 years as the administration centre for Noosa & District Landcare, the building was closed to the public during Covid-19 in 2020. During that time it received a makeover ready for its official reopening as ‘The HinterHub’ on the 1st December 2020. With over 20-years’ experience in vegetation management and horticulture, Noosa and District Landcare provides a diverse range of services including carbon offsets, ecosystem restoration, native forest establishment and environmental property consultancy.

The HinterHub is a proud initiative of Noosa & District Landcare. Since its inception in 1991, Noosa & District Landcare has been operating as a not for profit organisation. Surpluses from commercial activities are reinvested in resources to directly support the continuity of community education and training programs and ensure the sustainability of the organisation in its capacity to employ local people. So drop into the HinterHub and buy some local wares for your next gift and grab some endemic native species for your property or garden while you're at it! Not only will you be supporting Noosa & District Landcare, but also the dozen of local artisans who are supplying their shop. You can find them at Station Street opposite the Pomona Pub.
