Lucknow: Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on Friday said UP was once notorious for riots but has now transformed into a sports hub. His comment came ahead of 3rd edition of Khelo India University Games to be held from May 25 to June 3 across four cities in the state as more than 4700 athletes from 200-plus universities will participate.

New Delhi (PTI): Union Minister Anurag Thakur on Friday said that all the demands of wrestlers had been fulfilled and they should now allow the investigation to be completed. Speaking to reporters in Delhi, Thakur said, “A demand was there to form a committee and it was constituted, FIR has been registered by Delhi Police, the Supreme Court also gave its verdict. The Delhi Police are conducting a fair investigation. “I request the players that their demands are being fulfilled and they should allow the investigation to be completed.”

Coach Mahavir Phogat Threatens To Return Medals

Chandigarh: In support of protesting wrestlers, Dronacharya award-winning coach Mahavir Singh Phogat on Friday threatened to return his medals if justice is not delivered, demanding the arrest of WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

“I will return my medals if justice is not delivered in the case,” Mahavir Phogat said.

Earlier in Delhi, wrestler Vinesh Phogat had slammed Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur for not taking any action and “suppressing” the matter by forming a committee.

“We ended our protest after talking to Union Sports Minister (Anurag Thakur), and all the athletes had told him about the sexual harassment. He tried to suppress the matter by forming a committee and no action was taken that time,” she had said.

AS TRUCK RAMS INTO THREE-WHEELER IN UP’S BAHRAICH

Bahraich: Five persons were killed and ten others injured when a truck rammed into a three-wheeler in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district on Friday. The victims were returning from a ‘Tilak’ ceremony when the accident took place in Kaiserganj police circle. Police said that the identities of the victims were yet to be ascertained. SHO, Kaiserganj, Daddan Singh, said that the injured have been admitted to the district hospital.

New Delhi: Two members of the infamous Jitender Gogi gang, who were reportedly plotting an escape plan for a jailed associate, have apprehended, Delhi Police said on Friday. Police believe that Abhishek alias Mitta (24) and Naveen alias Shanichar (38), residents of Sonipat, had intended to carry out the escape plan during Karambir’s court appearance in either Delhi or Haryana. Police said that Abhishek was also involved in an attempted plan for Karambir’s escape from a hospital last year.

FOUR CHILDREN DROWN IN PIT FILLED WITH RAIN WATER IN AMROHA DISTRICT

Amroha: Four children of brick kiln labourers drowned after accidentally falling into a pit that was filled with rainwater in a village located in Gajraula in Amroha district of Uttar Pradesh on Friday, police said. The victims were identified as Saurabh (8), Ajit (7), Sonali (7) and Neha (7), police said. The incident took place when the children were playing near a slum in Nauner village and accidentally fell into one of the many pits that were dug recently by the owner of the kiln, they added.

Likely Over Southeast Bay Of Bengal By May 6

Bhubaneswar: India Meteorological Department (IMD) office said on Friday that a cyclonic circulation is likely to develop over the Southeast Bay of Bengal around May 6. Under its influence, low pressure is formed over the same region around May 7. It’s likely to concentrate into a depression over the Southeast Bay of Bengal on May 8. IMD has issued a warning for the Southeast and adjoining areas, where fishermen are advised not to visit the Southeast and Bay of Bengal from May 7 onwards.

YOUTUBER WANTED TO HIT 300 KMPH ON SUPERBIKE; DIED IN HORRIFIC CRASH

New Delhi: A YouTuber was killed in a horrible accident on the Yamuna Expressway while attempting to reach speed of “300 kmph”. The incident took place on Wednesday when YouTuber Agastay Chauhan was coming from Agra to Delhi. He was riding a Kawasaki Ninja ZX10R — a 1,000cc superbike — and making a video for his YouTube channel. His followers were shocked to know about Agastay’s death and posted many comments on his Instagram handle. The users also urged others to not ride a motorcycle at such high speed.
