Accused Shakur Khan has been sent to two days of police remand; Family demands `1 cr as compensation

Barmer/Jodhpur: A 30-year-old Dalit woman who was allegedly raped and set afire by a man in Barmer district, died during treatment late on Friday night at a MDH hospital in Jodhpur. Nitesh Arya, additional superintendent of police at Balotra in Barmer confirmed the report. As the news spread, a large number of people from her community and Balotra region reached Jodhpur and protested. Family members have refused to accept the body.

A memorandum was also given, in which protestors demanded compensation of rupees one crore and a government job to the family and suspension of circle officer of Pachpadra and circle inspector of Balotra police station. Meanwhile leaving the body at mortuary of MDH hospital, protestors returned back to the Balotra where they launched a dharna. They said that till the demands are not met, they will not accept the body.

NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma has written to DGP Rajasthan to conduct a fair and time-bound investigation in the matter and if the allegations levelled are found to be true, an FIR be filed under relevant provisions of law.
