A total of five governors or deputy governors have been appointed from the eastern part of Uttar Pradesh. This is a sign of a greater imbalance. There is no governor from many states, while there are one or two governors from many big states. But five governors from one part of Uttar Pradesh are in different states or union territories of the country.
Among the new governors, two names are from Uttar Pradesh and both are from Eastern Uttar Pradesh. Veteran BJP leader and former Union Minister of State for Finance Shiv Pratap Shukla, who hails from Gorakhpur, has been made the Governor of Himachal Pradesh.
Apart from him, Laxman Prasad Acharya of Varanasi, the constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been made the governor of Sikkim. Prior to this, three people from Eastern Uttar Pradesh are already Governor or Deputy Governor. Manoj Sinha is the Deputy Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Kalraj Mishra, a veteran BJP leader, is the Governor of Rajasthan. Both Manoj Sinha and Kalraj Mishra are residents of Ghazipur. Fagu Chauhan, a resident of Azamgarh, who was the Governor of Bihar, has been removed from there and made the Governor of Meghalaya.
