We return to the splendours of the Mansion Ballroom for a soireé of French chamber music. Touched by Spain, with subtle hints of the Orient, this is a programme of sophistication and sensuality. You will hear some of the finest French music from the first half of the 20th Century. Debussy’s ‘Estampes’ transports the listener to the Iberian peninsular by way of the Gamalan music of Java. Poulenc chose his colourful violin sonata to pay homage to poet Federico Lorca who died in the Spanish Civil War. Gabriel Fauré speaks with simplicity and deep emotion in his Élégie for cello. Our centrepiece, Ravel’s great Piano Trio, influenced by Basque folk music, is a masterpiece of the genre, embodying the poignant and the sensuous, a great recipe for the best of French music. 3.00pm and 7.30pm : £15 - to include: tea/coffee (3.00 performance) or wine/soft drink (7.30 performance) served in the main hall. he carefully modulated speech, that steely glare, the handbag …. anyone who lived in Britain through the Thatcher years will remember the dominance of our first female Prime Minister during that time. You can support a local good cause and be one of the first to see the eagerly awaited film – The Iron Lady – the story of Margaret Thatcher and her rise to power at a private screening at The Odeon, Gerrards Cross, on Friday 6 January 2012 – the opening night. There will also be an exclusive behind the scenes talk on the making of the film, some of which was shot at Pinewood Studios in Iver Heath. The Iron Lady is a story based on actual political events, starring Academy award winners Meryl Streep as Lady Thatcher and Jim Broadbent as Denis Thatcher. At the start of filming Ms Streep said “The prospect of exploring the swathe cut through history by this remarkable woman is a daunting and exciting challenge.” The remainder of the cast is made up of the very best of British acting talent including Richard E Grant and Anthony Head as cabinet ministers Geoffrey Howe and Michael Heseltine. Meryl Streep unveiled the official billboard poster for the film earlier this month and critics have already hailed her performance as “magnificent,” “getting everything right” and

THE IRON LADY’S NOT FOR TURNING… IN GERRARDS CROSS! “astonishing and all but flawless.” The private screening is being organised by local charity Scannappeal to raise funds for its Brain Injury Appeal for the Neurorehabilitation Unit at Amersham Hospital. The Unit ensures the best possible recovery for patients across Buckinghamshire with brain injuries as a result of accidents, stroke, cardiac arrest, meningitis or tumours. Scannappeal aims to provide the most advanced equipment to substantially improve and speed up patient recovery. Funds raised to date have

already purchased a speech synthesiser and gait-retrainer which will be used to rehabilitate patients with brain, spinal cord or nerve injury. Dr Richard Stevens, consultant rheumatologist and general physician in the Unit, said ‘This equipment is set to make a big difference to the quality of the service we can offer our patients. In particular, the gait re-trainer is individually programmable tailored to each patient and can be fine tuned to every stage of their rehabilitation’ Tickets for this special film screening cost £15 each

(standard seat) or £25 (premium seat), which includes a complimentary drink, and can be bought from Scannappeal online at www.scannappeal.org.uk/event s or by telephone 01494 734161. The Neurorehabilitation Unit is one of only a few such dedicated units in the country and it’s in YOUR area, so please support the Appeal and help local patients. Fundraising for this Appeal will continue for another year and the Scannappeal website has lots of ideas of how you can get involved – visit www.scannappeal.org.uk

local events Set in over 150,000 square feet, the tour will include some of the most recognisable and memorable film sets and props of all time allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves within the world of filmmaking and Harry Potter. Within the iconic Great Hall visitors will walk on the actual solid York stone floor laid over 11 years ago. They will also marvel at the solid oak and pine house tables which were built for the films and then aged with axes and chains. Over the years, the Hogwarts pupils have taken upon themselves to carve in their own graffiti, which production designer Stuart Craig has encouraged, as this would happen in all schools! Visitors can also enjoy the unique house points bead system which is said to have caused a national shortage of beads when it was first installed in the year 2000. Beyond the Great Hall, Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter continues with a huge selection of the most detailed and largest sets ever produced in the UK. Visitors can gaze closely into Dumbledore’s office and spot the authentic Sword of Gryffindor, Sorting Hat and Hogwarts headmaster portraits which adorn the walls, including one of the sleeping Professor Dumbledore himself. Visitors will also discover the magic of green screen technology that has been used for the films including the many Quidditch matches. Also on display will be Harry Potter’s Nimbus 2000, Draco Malfoy’s Nimbus 2001 and Harry’s special gift from godfather Sirius Black, the Firebolt. In addition to the green screen, a number of never-before-seen video pieces featuring interviews with the crew and cast will reveal the many secrets behind the filmmaking process. Visitors will also be able to appreciate the spectacular animatronics and makeup designs within the Creature Effects workshop. The workshop will feature iconic Harry Potter film creatures including Buckbeak the Hippogriff, Aragog, the giant spider, Fawkes the phoenix and the enormous Basilisk head.

The Weasley kitchen will showcase the incredible craftsmanship of the real life special effect props including Molly Weasley’s selfcooking frying pan, knitting needles and chopping boards. And fans can celebrate Hogwarts’ loveable groundskeeper Hagrid by visiting the real Hagrid’s hut, view his famous motorcycle, and take a peek at the secrets of how the larger than life character was created on screen. The Ministry of Magic will also feature in the Studio Tour, highlighted by the breathtaking Magic is Might statue as seen in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1, designed by Stuart Craig to be reminiscent in style of soviet sculptures from the 1930’s highlighting the dominance of the wizarding world over Muggles. In addition, visitors will be able to enjoy one of the most famous addresses in the world, 4 Privet Drive, as well as the legendary cupboard under the stairs. The Gryffindor common room is one of the films’ oldest sets and remains one of the most loved by fans. This iconic set will feature alongside the Gryffindor boys’ dormitory which includes the original beds made for Harry, Ron, Seamus, Neville and Dean for the first film. Over the course of filming, as the cast grew from young boys to teenagers, filmmakers were required to find unique camera angles to hide the fact that the cast had clearly outgrown the beds. Other Hogwarts sets on show include the dark and mysterious Potion’s classroom, the lair of Professor Snape, and Professor Umbridge’s office resplendent in pink with the incredibly detailed hand painted cat porcelain plates each made especially for the films. The gateway to the school itself, the Hogwarts bridge, last seen burning to the ground following Neville and the Death Eater’s chase in the final film, will be restored for all to see as will hundreds of props, costumes, animatronics and many other exciting sets which will be unveiled as the opening approaches. ART FROM THE

RIVERBANK A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT - THE WATERY WORLD OF PAINTER SARAH WENDEN REVEALED AT THE RIVER & ROWING MUSEUM

V

isitors to the River & Rowing Museum’s Kirkham Gallery in January will be transported to a watery world through a new exhibition of mixed-media paintings by Oxfordshire based artist Sarah Wenden. Opening on 21 January, this exhibition of 30 new works by the artist features a collection of beautiful and dynamic depictions of riverbanks – a subject matter Wenden has devoted her artistic career to. For this new exhibition, which Wenden has been creating since 2008, she has captured the Thames and its lesser-known tributaries near her home in Oxford, becoming captivated not only by reflections in the water but by the way it has shaped the landscape it passes through. The works on display

will also be available for purchase, prices available on request. Alongside her distinctively bold, brightly-coloured collages and intense yet contemplative oil paintings will also be displayed a number of her preparatory sketch books, allowing visitors to trace the artist’s process from the initial drawings through to the finished works. “I have always had a fascination with the beauty and complexity of water. It’s a wonderful challenge to capture the light dazzling off its surface, or portray its movement and power in paint”, Wenden says of her subject matter. “This new collection is especially close to my heart as it depicts the riverbanks of my home near Oxford.” Wenden, who’s career spans over 30 years, is a master in the art of capturing the light

reflected on water and her vivid depictions of Britain’s riverbanks have been exhibited all over the UK. Her work is celebrated in public and private collections across the UK and abroad and her impressive career includes residencies at Kew Gardens and teaching positions at several art schools including the Cardiff Art School where she was a Junior Fellow. The exhibition continues the River & Rowing Museum’s commitment to championing new work from local talents. Recently this has included a fashion exhibition by textile artist and costumier Kate Plumtree featuring specially designed outfits inspired by Britain’s wildlife, and a photographic show of life on the frontline in Afghanistan by Henley-based war photographer Paul Smyth. “Sarah Weden’s wonderfully

evocative depictions of the river have a unique resonance with the Museum and it’s location on the banks of the Thames, so we’re extremely excited to have her work here”, says Rachel Wragg, Senior Curator at the River and Rowing Museum. 2012 will see the Museum host several visual art exhibitions including a show of botanical drawings of Trees from the riverbanks of the Thames by artist Ewan Anderson, opening 6 February 2012, and a major retrospective of works by seminal 20th Century artist John Piper, covered in a never before exhibited collection which opens to the public 3 March 2012. Regent Street is home to a number of large outlets oering everything from toys and trench coats to fabrics and food. Perhaps the street’s most famous resident is the elegant Liberty store, founded in 1875. Many of the shops along Regent Street (and especially Saville Row, running parallel) are more expensive than most on Oxford Street but more exclusive. If you have children, the world’s best toy shop should give them something to remember! Hamleys is a London institution, a huge, well-run emporium stacked from oor to ceiling with excellent toys. It is a wonderful place to take a child, and great fun for adults as well. Other stores that amaze are Jaeger, Hobbs, Mappin & Webb, Karen Millen, Reiss, Swarovski, TM Lewin, Nike’s agship store, The Apple Store and the ďŹ rst British Ferrari store a real treat for Ferrari enthusiasts, and so much more. For those looking for that extra special treat, Godiva is one of the most prestigious chocolate brands in the world and if your mouth is watering you can visit one of the many eateries available on Regent Street including the new La bottega del Caè, Pret A Manger, il Pomodorino, Ping Pong.

For serious fashionistas, Bond Street and its environs are the place to be seen in and shop! New Bond Street boasts one of the biggest and best concentrations of designer shops in the world, including Donna Karan, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Nicole Farhi, Armani, Jimmy Choo and Ralph Lauren. Quintessentially English style can be found at the Mulberry and Burberry stores. Bond Street also plays host to Sotheby’s auction house and a number of antique stores and markets have popped up in the area. If you or your other half has a thing for diamonds, you should know that Cartier, Tiany and Asprey are among the jewellers on this exclusive, expensive street.

The area was made famous by a lively local scene during the ‘Swinging 60s’ and punk fuelled seventies. The doyenne of punk fashion, Vivienne Westwood, still runs her ďŹ rst ever store at the so-called ‘World’s End’ end of The King’s Road. Although the area has none of the character of that time, it is still full of famous faces and is one of the best and most varied places to shop and eat in London. For fashion, King’s Road oers high street regulars such as Jigsaw, French Connection and Gap but if you’re looking for something more original American Classics sell vintage Levi’s and tuxedos. At the Sloane Square end, crowned by Peter Jones, there is the pedestrianised Duke of York Square - full of modern shops and cafes, including Mary Quant and Yves Delorme. You can purchase anything from antiques at The Furniture Cave, to a ÂŁ40,000 bed from Hastens, also taking in upmarket stores quirkily named R.Soles, Sweaty Betty and After Noah.

Oxford Street lays claim to being London’s busiest street. The opening of Debenhams and Selfridges in 1909 marked the beginning of the street’s dominance as a shopping area. Amongst the chaos and bustle, retail therapists will ďŹ nd an oasis of calm in the area’s unrivalled collection of department stores. Debenhams, Marks & Spencer and John Lewis all have their agship stores on Oxford Street. Selfridges is the department store of Londoners. There’s an incredible selection of British and international designers available and plenty of great restaurants and cafes to chill out in if you get a bit tired. Oxford Street also oers some of the best choice in terms of high street fashion, if you can ďŹ ght your way through the crowds. Among the best shops are inexpensive but stylish favourites Zara, Mango & Monsoon. You will also ďŹ nd one of the largest collection of eateries, where you can relax for 42

Knightsbridge is one of the most unchanged, attractive areas of central London, with little in the way of oďŹƒces nearby but plenty of shops and restaurants to serve the needs of local residents. There are plenty of ways to spend money in this beguiling corner of the capital. Harrods is the most famous of the local stores, a huge tourist attraction employing over 3,000 sta in more than 300 departments. However, some much prefer Harvey Nichols, a chicer alternative with three oors of designer wear, a huge beauty department and delectable delicacies on the ďŹ fth oor, all at extremely high prices. If you have the money to spend and want some designer clothes, look no further than Sloane Street. Christian Dior, Chanel, Prada, Gucci, Armani, Fendi and Dolce & Gabbana are all within easy walking distance of each other - even in heels! There are also a number of exquisite specialist lingerie stores including Rigby & Peller on Hans Road and La Perla on Sloane Street itself.

The name Carnaby Street is synonymous with 1960s ‘Swinging London’ - a phrase coined by Time magazine. Nowadays the area has gone through something of a revival and is once again boasting cutting edge designer talents and trendy street ware. With over 140 shops, bars and restaurants to choose from in the area, it’s deďŹ nitely worth a visit. Shoppers will ďŹ nd rich pickings at urban streetwear shops like Replay, Diesel, Howies, American Apparel and Puma. There are also a number of streets in the immediate area around Carnaby Street - notably Newburgh Street which runs parallel, Foubert’s Place, and Kingly Court which has three oors of one-o ‘concept’ shops, cafes and restaurants set around an open courtyard. Carnaby Street is a fantastic place to buy sports, urban and footwear, and there’s also a number of ďŹ ne cosmetics shops - seek out the Cowshed and MAC Cosmetics - as well as a few boutiques selling vintage mod clothing. Altogether very stylish.

A visit to Covent Garden is a must, whether you intend to shop, or soak up the atmosphere watching the street entertainers. The focal point of Covent Garden, the market, has dominated the area ever since the Middle Ages. There is also an open-air cobbled area where miming and juggling acts can often be found. Classical music and opera singing often ďŹ lls the air - not from the Royal Opera House but from street performers who often stage impromptu concerts in the courtyards below street level. Covent Garden is a mecca for shoppers - high Street outlets include Marks & Spencer, Oasis, French Connection, Next and Monsoon, with menswear at Diesel, Replay, Oakley and Paul Smith. Neal Street, which runs to the north west of the Piazza, has more in the way of urbanwear including as well as trendy trainer shops including OďŹƒce and Size? as well as the Natural Shoe Store and Terra Plana ‘ethical shoes’. If (perish the thought!) you tire of clothes shopping there are scores of excellent places to stop o for a coee.

Q&A

WITH THE AWARD WINNING DENTIST

DR SHaMeeK POPat

CONGRATULATIONS FROM CHORLEYWOOD LIFE TO DR S POPAT ON BEING VOTED NO.23 IN THE DENTISTRY TOP 50 PEOPLE IN THE UK IN 2011. THANK YOU, IT’S NICE TO BE RECOGNISED BY YOUR PEERS AND A GREAT HONOUR. I WOULD LIKE TO WISH ALL THE CHORLEYWOOD LIFE READERS A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR! I ALSO WANTED TO THANK ALL THE READERS WHO EMAILED QUESTIONS OR HAD QUERIES ABOUT THEIR DENTAL HEALTH. I AM GOING TO GO OVER SOME IMPLANT QUESTIONS AGAIN THIS TIME AS WE HAVE HAD A FEW QUERIES ABOUT THEM RECENTLY. Q. What are dental implants, are they screwed into your jaw or your tooth roots? A. I am going to concentrate this month’s edition on Dental Implants and try and give you basic understanding on dentistry’s exciting field. I have touched on the subject in previous editorials but am happy to go over it again as it’s an exciting field. Dental Implant is a titanium metal rod which is placed into the jaw bone. They are used to replace missing teeth and they can be used to support one or more false teeth. Research indicates that dental implants biocompatible surface actually stimulates the required fusion with the bone. Once that has been achieved, the crown, bridge or whole tooth replacement can be fixed to the implant or implants to feel and function like natural teeth. Implants are a well-established, tried and tested treatment. Over 95% of modern implants should last for many years with the right care. More people than ever are choosing dental implants as the preferred tooth replacement therapy. That’s because people are discovering that implants not only

feel secure and stable, allowing them to speak and eat clearly, but they look natural as well. And there’s another bonus- because they help prevent bone loss, implants can help to maintain a more youthful appearance! Q. Can implants always be used to replace missing teeth? A. Regardless of the cause of tooth loss, dental implants can be a simple, proven lasting solution for restoring teeth. After a thorough examination of your medical history, your dentist can advise you whether dental implants may be the right solution for you. There is no upper age limit. Nevertheless, it does depend on the condition of the bone in your jaw. Your dentist will arrange for a number of special tests to find out the amount of bone still there. If there is not enough, it may be possible for the bone to be built up by grafting bone into the area first. This will be an extra procedure prior to placing the implant. Also, heavy alcohol consumption, smoking, diabetes or other clinical conditions may interfere with an implants integration process and its ultimate long term success. Patients

who grind their teeth at night must also undertake a careful evaluation with their dentist. Q. Do Implants hurt? A. The big question! Placing the implant means a small operation and can be performed using a simple local anaesthetic, and sometimes with sedation if you are nervous. Sometimes the dentist may need to use general anaesthetic for complex cases. You will not feel any pain during the procedure but you may feel discomfort during the week after the surgery. Q. How long does the treatment take? A. Your dentist will be able to give you a rough timetable before the treatment starts but usually the permanent teeth are fitted 3-6 months after the implants are put in. In a minority of cases, it may take up to a year for the implant to fully integrate with the bone. Q. How long do they last? A. How long implants and the new teeth last depends primarily on how well your teeth are cared for. If you have good oral hygiene, including good home care and regular dental

re care visits, your implants can lasts for many years, possibly up to an entire lifetime. Q. Is there any complication or risk? A. Careful preparation and implementation of implant treatment reduces risk to a minimum. However, Implant treatment is a surgical procedure and as such it is associated with certain risks. Under normal circumstances, the swelling and mild pain which may occur often disappear after a few days. Periodontitis (gum disease), poor oral hygiene, inadequate wound healing, smoking, or serious general disease (e.g. diabetes) may be a contraindication for dental implants. Your dentist will be glad to provide you with information about potential complications and risks. Q. Is the treatment expensive? A. Unfortunately, yes. However, in many situations the cost is only a little more than the cost of more conventional treatment with crowns and bridges. Over the longer term, implants are usually a more cost effective and satisfactory option. There are advantages to having an implant. An implant to replace a single tooth avoids the need to cut down teeth either side for crowns to support a bridge. Implants can also help anchor a denture better so they do not move around. However, it is best to discuss the different treatment options with your dentist and decide on what suits you best and fits with your budget. KEEP SMILING FOR 2012

Every Woman deserves beautiful nails

E

hen times are tough, money is short and life is not easy, we all need a little “pick me upâ€? and what better than treating ourselves to a lovely set of beautiful nails that will cheer us up, make us feel good and put a smile back on our faces! Women will always ďŹ nd the extra pennies for that little treat, and nails are top of the list, because they are visible and we feel great when people notice and comment on our lovely nails. Nails are one of the few parts of a person where it is not required to look in a mirror to see what they look like, nails allow women to see beauty at their ďŹ ngertips.

ayward false lash, smudged eye liner or lipstick on teeth? Next time you moan about a make-up blunder, take pity on those poor celebrities. With studio lights, HD television and paparazzi flashbulbs to contend with, a bad hair day or going cosmetics-free isn’t really an option without being featured in a dreaded ‘circle of shame’ magazine spread. After long stints in the public eye, however, there’s rarely a panic in front of the mirror for Fearne Cotton, Coleen Rooney and a very pregnant Holly Willoughby. In fact, both Fearne and Coleen have embraced the beauty world by launching their own cosmetic lines. Thankfully, there’s no exclusivity clause banning them from using other products too, so we can discover all their beauty secrets. Here, the three glamorous stars give us a glimpse into their designer make-up bags and can’t-live-without cosmetics.

The pregnant TV presenter has recently launched her Holly Willoughby high summer collection for Very, from £25 (08448 222321/www.very.co.uk). Must-have product: Estee Lauder mascara. I have tried and tested hundreds of mascaras, and always come back to the same one. It’s brilliant. Your look: I have found what works for me and stick to it... a big bouncy blow dry, glossy lips and subtle ticks of eyeliner. Everyday routine: I take o make-up with a gentle cleansing wipe - wearing full make-up for work every day means I need to be careful in looking

after my skin. I use a range of Murad skin products to keep my skin in good condition. Pamper treat: I treat myself to a pedicure. I feel sorry for my feet; they carry me around all day, so I ďŹ gure it’s my duty to look after them. Experimental side: I don’t tend to experiment. If you look back over the years, my hair and makeup have pretty much stayed the same. I know what suits me and if I drastically chopped all my hair o one day, I worry I’d wake up the next day and regret it! Top beauty tip: Heat your eyelash curlers with a hairdryer before you use them. It makes such a dierence.

The mum-of-one’s fragrance empire is growing with the launch of her latest premium perfume, Coleen Butteries, from £25 (0870 850 3868). Fragrance inspiration: Butteries is a summery, light fragrance. It has a lovely spicy and oral scent. I chose the name Butteries because they have always been special to me - I think they represent femininity and beauty as I hope the new fragrance does. Must-have product: Probably Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour cream, it’s great for everything. Your look: I like the natural look, so fresh, clean skin with a hint of pink on cheeks. I like

The TV presenter has recently launched her own Fearne make-up range in Boots, from ÂŁ5 (www.boots.com). Favourite product from Range: The nail varnishes are really important to me because I change my nail polish like eight times a week - I get so bored! Must-have product: Red lippy. If I can’t be bothered with make-up then I will wear sunglasses and lipstick and feel slightly better about myself. Your look: I don’t know if I ever really have a set ‘look’ - I change it all the time. Everyday routine: It sways from being good to really awful. When

I’m behaving, I’m really studious about taking all my make-up o, toning and moisturising... the lot. Pamper treat: I love massages because I run quite a lot so I’m always aching somewhere. Experimental side: I cut all my hair o because I was bored of myself. I wanted to try something that was a bit more versatile. I had hair that was down to here and I couldn’t do anything with it. I’m loving being blonde again. Top beauty tip: People usually ask me how I do my eye liner - I do a pencil line ďŹ rst, smudge it a little bit and then add a liquid line over the top. You get the deďŹ nition but you still have the smudge so it won’t budge!

I also use Johnson’s wipes to take my make-up o. I like to get a facial every six weeks. Pamper treat: My favourite thing is a full body massage. Experimental side: I experiment sometimes if I’m going to a party. It all depends on what I’m wearing and if the make-up and hair goes with my outďŹ t. Top beauty tip: Groomed eyebrows make a big dierence in framing your face. DECEMBER2011 61

* Previous Oakford Homes interiors

T

he combination of an eagerly sought after town centre location, designer kitchens and access to a stylish roof top terrace is expected to prove a winning formula for an exciting new development, coming soon to Rickmansworth. This week, award winning house builder Oakford Homes has announced the imminent launch of its latest development One, an exclusive collection of one, two and three bedroom apartments in the heart of Rickmansworth town centre. The collection of homes will be launching in January 2012 but this week, local home buyers are being given a sneak preview of what will be on offer, along with an opportunity to register their interest to ensure they are the first to be offered an opportunity to secure one of these highly desirable new

homes. The homes will boast fully fitted bespoke designer kitchens together with integrated appliances and granite work surfaces, as well as fully tiled designer bathrooms and access to a communal roof top terrace, which can be enjoyed by all residents. With the house builder’s previous developments typically selling out in just six weeks, the homes at One are expected to receive considerable interest from both local buyers and those keen to move into the area, appealing to downsizers, investors and young professionals alike. Chris Coates, Managing Director of Oakford Homes comments: “We are very excited to be delivering this new collection of apartments in such a fantastic location. We take great care to ensure that every single home we deliver is built to the highest possible

specification and is designed with its future owner in mind. The homes at One will offer buyers a home built to an exceptional standard, combined with a very central and highly sought after location. We expect the homes to prove very popular, with local agents Sewell & Gardner already receiving lots of enquiries, so I would encourage interested buyers to register their interest now to ensure they don’t miss out!” Located in the town centre, the homes are just a short walk from the town’s local amenities as well as its great transport links, including the main line railway station and the metropolitan line. Residents will benefit from a short commute into central London (typically 30 minutes*), while also being able to enjoy a full range of local shops, bars, restaurants and leisure facilities, all on their door step. The development will include

two separate blocks of apartments, each boasting 14 exclusively designed homes. Phase one, which has been named Ochre, will be completed by spring 2012 and will include two and three bedroom apartments. Phase two, named Amber, is expected to complete in late summer 2012 and will include a mixture one and two bedroom apartments. Prices for one bedroom homes are expected to start from £199,000, prices for the two bedroom homes will start from £295,000, while the three bedroom homes will start from £395,000. Those interested in securing a home at One can register their interest now by calling selling agents Sewell & Gardner on 01923 776400 or by emailing one@oakfordhomes.co.uk *based on TfL Journey Planner: Rickmansworth to London Marylebone

At Chaplins we enjoy a freedom to express our love for design and to push boundaries and trends quickly, without having to run through and constantly analyse figures." If all the fabulous pieces on display in this design heaven proves too much for you, Chaplins also offer a ‘Home Design Service’ as many of their elegant storage systems for bedrooms and offices require an expert level of planning, which naturally they

All these wonderful collections are held under one roof, making it an inspiring one-stop solution for your entire home furnishing needs. Managing Director, Simon Chaplin is the second generation to take control of what is a family run business. Simon’s fascination stems back to his youth, “I was fortunate enough to grow up in a furniture family so even though I was not working, I was learning through osmosis!” Simon’s vision when taking over the Chaplins dynasty was to not only showcase the largest retail space showing high-end contemporary furniture and design in the UK, but to also build a concierge service around it, offering their clients a fully tailored package from the

So what does Simon predict will be the next big trend in contemporary furniture design? “I’d like to think great interiors are timeless. An interior should reflect an individual’s personality and lifestyle more than current trends." Although Chaplins are very proud of their showroom in Hatch End, Middlesex they also appreciate that buying trends are changing and people are using the internet for both research purposes and to make the occasional purchase. It is a business that has to be led by passion or the end result will reflect this.” As an independent run store all Chaplins staff have a background in design and are qualified to give you the fullest possible assistance, which is friendly, expert and efficient, taking your personal wishes into account. Simon goes on to say, “The love of design can be seen in every element of our customers’ lives, from the cars they drive to the watches they wear to the houses they live in. THE REAL WOOD FURNITURE COMPANY PASSION AND INSPIRATION IN WOODSTOCK

T

he Real Wood Furniture Company offers a unique service, in that they are makers of bespoke furniture, and also have high street showrooms in the heart of historic Woodstock, where their own collection of designs can be viewed at leisure. The furniture is laid out in stunning room sets, which serve to inspire and to offer ‘starting points’ for customers’ own requirements and specifications. Fourteen showrooms are beautifully presented in three adjoining listed buildings, one of which dates back to the 12th century. The company makes a unique collection of country styled furniture in English oak, burr oak, ash and elm. Designed by company principal Chris Baylis, who draws on experience of form, proportion and finish gained over 30 years within the antiques and furniture making trade, the collection includes many pieces based on classic period designs and his passion for the simplicity of early Chinese furniture and Art and Crafts designs. Chris keeps a keen eye on practicality and modern day usage and explains: “the furniture we make must be beautiful to the eye and to the touch. It is designed to be ‘used’ and ‘enjoyed’….it’s never a case of - don’t touch that table - but much more - please touch, please use and enjoy!” Chris’ love affair with wood started with some of the stunning timbers used to make guitars (another of his passions) and was then fuelled by his involvement with antiques. Now he is at the sharp end, sourcing and selecting some of the finest English grown country timbers for use in the making of The Real Wood Furniture Company’s ever increasing collection. Chris notes: ‘The journey of timber from standing in the forest to arriving as a 68

DECEMBER2011

finished piece of furniture in your home is fascinating. The journey will take a minimum of 5 years from felling and sometimes a lot longer. The environment that the tree has grown in will affect the quality and grain of the timber. The trunk of the tree, known as a ‘butt’ can be cut in numerous ways to accentuate various aspects of the grain. Each cut will have different markings and present different challenges. A lengthy and carefully managed seasoning process takes place before the timber gets anywhere near the craftsman’s bench.’ The company specialises in making furniture featuring stunning grain with many pieces being made in superb, much sought after, burr timbers. Passion drives the business of The Real Wood Furniture Company forward - passion combined with an unerring attention to detail and service. Chris and his team are always happy to spend time with customers, explaining the various options of style and proportion, timber, grain, finish etc. Pieces can be bought ‘from the floor’ or made to customers’ bespoke requirements. A wander through the showrooms is an invitation to relax, to be inspired and to let your imagination roam free. The stunning room sets are set off by individual accessories and artworks. To the rear of the showrooms ‘The Sculpture Garden’ offers an outside haven of tranquility with an ever changing offer of sculptural work. Dream and discover, the unusual and the individual, with no pressure, no fuss. The largest display of bespoke furniture of its kind in the country is there for all to enjoy. ne redeeming feature of the antiques trade is that every so often something turns up that at ďŹ rst glance, which is usually enough for a hardened old pro, appears to be one thing but on closer inspection has so many dierent features that it is diďŹƒcult to evaluate precisely. One such piece is the small upright chest of drawers decorated with Wedgwood ceramic plaques, illustrated here. It has a distinctly French feel to it and it is indeed an English version of the French original, which would have seven drawers rather than six. It came into being during the mid-18th century, a luxury item for a luxurious age. Essentially an item for the boudoir its seven drawers held clean lingerie for each day of the week. That begs the question why the English version only had six drawers; did we all go grubby for a day? The form was quickly adopted in late Regency and Victorian England on a commercial scale after The Duke of Wellington is reputed to have favoured it as being most compact and convenient while on campaign. From then on and still today the English model is known as a Wellington chest and usually made of good old mahogany. Sometimes the drawers are anked by two columns, one of which is hinged and lockable when closed thus serving to secure all the drawers. But the one illustrated is very dierent. My ďŹ rst thoughts were that it might be to a design by Henry Holland, 1745 – 1806 the architect and iconic designer to the Prince of Wales. Irrespective of our being at war we maintained a strong artistic link with France and one of Holland’s favourite themes was the

70

John Bly 7BA A3D3< 2@/E3@A 63:2 1:3/< :7<53@73 4=@ 3/16 2/G =4 B63 E339 classic French style of which this could be a ďŹ ne example. However, on closer inspection it crosses the boundaries of several collecting ďŹ elds and manufacturing details. The silver beaded mounts were a novelty that became a most fashionable motif during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The inlay of once bright coloured leaves on thin threads hang from faux bamboo style tubes inlaid onto harewood – sycamore dyed with oxide of iron - are reversed on the lower section. The use of ivory for the John Linnell (cabinet maker 1729 – 96) shape feet was ahead of its time and all the timbers, the marquetry and the form of extended front columns are all elements attributable to Henry Holland. But now it starts to get complicated. The backboard is secured with traditional hand cut screws, while the back edge of each drawer bottom is secured with machine cut screws. Now the immediate reaction to that is that it must be 19th century, because it is generally accepted that machine made screws were not introduced until the 1830’s. However we now know that the ďŹ rst truly modern screw-cutting lathe was likely constructed by J. Ramsden in 1775. Twenty

years later in France, M. Senot created a screw-cutting lathe capable of industrial-level production, and in 1800 Henry Maudslay created a screwcutting lathe that became the international standard machine. These late-18thcentury screw-cutting lathes represented the breakthrough development of the technology but cabinetmakers used them with caution to begin with, combining the use of hand made where they might be seen and the new machine made where not. Another guide to 18th or 19th century is the thickness of the veneers. Prior to the early 1800s all veneers were cut by hand and were rarely less than 1/16th of an inch thick. The development of machinery capable of cutting veneer to a paper thickness by the 1830’s revolutionised the furniture industry and gives us strong evidence for dating. The veneers on this chest are both thick and thin. Thus far we are in mind to say a date for this circa 1830, but a pair of almost identical form and decoration with seven drawers and unquestionably French are housed in the Victoria and Albert Museum and are dated at circa1870. We shall now begin to examine the silver mounts and the Wedgwood

plaques. I will let you know. Another nice surprise recently was the discovery of two miniature portraits, or rather the discovery that one of them was of General Robert Monckton (1726 – 82). We don’t know who the other one is‌yet. They are monochrome in a medium known as plumbago. This describes a particular method of drawing with ďŹ nely pointed pieces of graphite onto vellum, and although it was ďŹ rst developed in the 17th century examples from this period are rare, and it is from the 18th century that most are found today. The fact that there is a name of a famous person on the back of a picture can mean nothing at all, but in this case there are suďŹƒcient portraits of General Monckton to be able to identify him as the subject of this miniature. He was an oďŹƒcer of considerable note in the British Army and a colonial administrator in British North America. He established a most distinguished military and political career and was responsible for organising the deportation of the Arcadians from the then British controlled Nova Scotia in the early part of the Seven Years War. In 1759 General James Wolfe chose Monckton to be his 2nd I.C. for the assault on Quebec and so signiďŹ cant was his military role during this part of his life that the city of Moncton, New Jersey is so named in his honour. So what at ďŹ rst glance looked like just another 18th century miniature portrait of an oďŹƒcer turned out to be a history lesson, for me anyway. Always good. John Bly Est Antiques 1891. rigin Leisure has been at the top of the swimming pool industr y ffor or thirty years. To celebrate this milestone the company has rebranded their entire look, with a bright new logo, an all-new website, and redesigned vans. But the ethic of the company remains unchanged. They are still adopting their programme of constant improvement, and their products are more adventurous, ous, mor m e imaginatively designed and more perfectly built than ever. Reflecting on the early daayys, when the company started out liffee as Leisureland, d,, the directors searched the archives for photographic evidence of the pool houses they were building in the eighties. Simplicity seemed to be the keyword in those distant daays - when a simple pine building housed a small heated swimming pool. In further research they ffound ound tthat the majority of these buildings are still in daily use toda oday, giving new generations the pleasure of swimming at home

throughout the year. Many of these early masterpieces have been refurbished by the Origin maintenance team, to bring the look and the pool technology up to date. To celebrate this burst of nostalgia, nostalgia, the directors also gathered a collection of early advertisements and brochures,, and ffeatur eatured them in the Origin newsletter NewsW Wave. Also featur featur ea ed is an article on Britain’’s brightest swimming talent Fr Francesca Halsall. Origin is delighted to be one of Fr Fran’s sponsors, especially as she has just clocked a world-leading time in the 100 metres fr f reestyle! Generally the buildings have become bigger, better, far more complex and far more stylish over the years - you can see the evidence of this in the photographs on these pages. Lovely pool houses that are

designed to co-ordinate with their surroundings,, to actually improve the vista fr f rom the owner’s home, and match in with the materials and fabrics of the existing building. Constancy has been igin’s a key ffeatur eature in Origin’ development. The client alwaays meets a representative at director level, el, and has the opportunity to discuss his ideas and requirements with someone who has a total understanding of the swimming pool world. The architects and designers are seasoned plaayyers in their fields,, and bring a wealth of experience to ever y aspect of this complex and demanding business. Even the teams who build the final pool houses are eminently proffessional,, many having been involved since the ver y early daayys of the company. Within Origin’’s range of expertise is a long standing commitment to the supply of hydrotherapy pools. Realising

the benefits of swimming as a health giving pursuit as well as for for pure fun, the company has made sure it has become recognised as the most important nt plaayyer in this exacting field. It was accepted as a natural progression to build outdoor pools too. The level of skill and the company ’s unique understanding of pool technology stood them in good stead to become one of the countr y ’s for fooremost outdoor pool providers. A pool house is a beautiful and sttyylish addition to your family liffe, but ffor or pure aesthetics an outdoor pool twinkling welcomingly in an English garden cannot be beaten! A question that is asked again and again is “Do you do the whole project yourself? The answer is a resounding yes. F Frrom the ver y first sketch,, maybe produced whilst standing in the client ’s garden,, to standing in that same garden admiring the pure crafftsmanship, no other company apart ffrrom Origin Frrom has been involved. F gn,, through architectural design, the rigours of planning consent,, to the creation of the pool,, the building, the heating, the glazing, it is a complete job, monitored and run by a team of committed experts. n’’s Origin is Britain longest established pool company. And the new look and logo underlines that fact. The strapline reads ‘ The original indoor & outdoor pool company.’ And that just about saayys it all. "Normally, it's well into December before I get myself organised, but I've been able to 'cheat' this year as I've done bits and pieces over the last few months as part of my work." Allsopp's been able to steal a march on the rest of us as some of her projects for her latest Channel Four TV series, Kirstie's Handmade Britain, have been Christmas-focused. "I've always had the children's home-made decorations and now I'm going to have my own - I'm hoping to make a few more robins if I have time. It gives the tree a lovely personal feel," she says. It will be a getaway Christmas for the presenter, who's leaving London and spending the festive season in her family holiday home in Devon, with her partner, Ben Andersen, their two sons, Bay, five, and Oscar, three, and Andersen's sons from his previous marriage, Orion 11, and Hal, eight. "We can have an enormous real tree there, which Ben staggers home with and then puts up with me shouting instructions. "The boys and I have a great time choosing what to go on it," she says with a beam. "I absolutely love decorations and put a lot of time into making the whole house look really festive. I'm certainly not a puritan about the 'look' honestly, you can't have too much colour and sparkle," she says. Allsopp says there's no need to stress about seasonal decor. "It's a time of year when you 78

can let your imagination go wild. If you're struggling on a colour theme, simply pick the colour which features on most of your baubles. "There are no taste rules in my book. The only bad tree is an undecorated tree," she says. "I even indulged my love of decorations last year by buying some lovely new baubles and Christmas decorations for myself, and giving some away as gifts, which was really popular!" "I like the tree and the table to have the same colours, and find that lots of greenery - holly and ivy - is a calming, natural contrast to the fussy detail of decorations. "Get a hand-made look with felt embroidered decorations or painted wooden ones, and add a traditional touch with tiny robins and reindeer. "I also love tinsel for instant

"I like the home to look magical and use trails of greenery intertwined with baubles and fairy lights for the mantelpiece, the stair bannisters and on the hall table. ights, camera, action - the new focus for interiors is on winter lighting which transforms rooms into stunning settings. In recent years, designers have turned the spotlight on everything from pendants to the humble table lamp - and the effects are magical. Myriad influences have inspired designs, including flights of fancy featuring pets and jungle creatures, the equipment used on film sets and in photographers' studios, and, naturally, glamour with crystal and bling adorning even simple shades. While designers set the trend, it comes at a price. But these days the high street is quick to follow with affordable replicas so there's no need to feel left in the dark if your budget's tight. Follow the lighting lead of the Prime Minister's wife, Samantha Cameron, who recently paid only a couple of hundred pounds for a reproduction of a classic Arco floor lamp, shunning the £1,600 price tag for an original. "Samantha Cameron's not alone in choosing a reproduction of a classic," says David Gutfreund, managing director of Iconic Lights which sells the reproduction version.

ORLANDO ADJUSTABLE FLOOR LAMP, £39.99, HOMEBASE

"Many interior designers and architects specify reproduction products, particularly during the current challenging economic times. "Only people with more money than sense would pay as much as six times more for the same thing. I believe if the designer Castiglioni was alive today, he would approve of our reproduction, and find it hard to tell the difference." Here's my guide to the best designer buys and their money-saving equivalents on the high street. TAKE THE FLOOR Floor lamps languished in the shade for years, but they're

enjoying huge popularity again because they're so versatile and decorative. LET IT BLING For full-on glamour, nothing beats a chandelier as a focal point in a room. A glittering vintage-style crystal or glass creation does not have to be confined to a period setting - it can add a touch of decadence in a cool, contemporary space. Save: Mimic the sparkle with a mini Astoria easy-fit pendant, £39.99, from Homebase. Alternatively, the new kid on the block is the Shadelier: a shade incorporating delicate hanging crystals. It could suit any setting. A History of St Michael’’s Manor I’m sure the original owners and builders of St Michaels Manor in St Alban’s, the Gape family, would be very pleased that the legacy of their beautiful 16th century ancestral home still continues today in the hands of another local family, the Newling Wards. However, before modern times the Gapes (of Norman origin, known as the Guipes) appeared in St Albans around 1495 and eventually acquired the current site from the local abbey shortly after the

86

DECEMBER2011

Dissolution. The original part of the manor was built on the medieval foundations of a farm house, which was first erected by Henry Gape in 1512 and later extended. It was slowly improved over the years and the date of 1560 and a tribute to John Gape is still visible in the plaster ceiling in what is known as the Oak Lounge; a beautiful oak panelled room and probably the most original part of the building. In the early sixteenth century the Gape fortune was made and in the 200 years that

followed the position of the family became increasingly secure. The ancient trade of tanning became re-established in the area and was the financial foundation for generations of Gapes and the springboard to local prominence as politicians as well as local entrepreneurs and benefactors of the city. It is extremely likely that there was a Roman presence on the site. The river Ver, constructed by the Romans, and which runs behind the hotel and feeds

its lake, was originally used for stocking fish. This process continued later by local monks associated with the Abbey, and after which the lake was used during the tanning process. When the Gape dynasty eventually came to an end the house was auctioned in April 1953 raising £4,000. After an uncertain spell as a country club and war veterans home the house and grounds where bought by Michael Newling Ward in 1965. The intention was for locals Michael and his wife, Gladys,

weekend getaway to see out their retirement at St Michael’s Manor and supplement their pensions by running it as a small hotel. Gradually the grounds were cleared, the lake was dredged and cleaned, the house enlarged and the whole area restored to its former glory. In 1976, when the lake was being cleaned out, pieces of pottery, leather and oak bark were dredged up from the mud and below this was discovered the ruins of an old tannery, long covered with silt. St Michael’s Manor was beginning to regain its grace and charm, but it was hard work. So much so that Michael called upon the help of his son, David, trained in Hotel Management and learning his craft in Paris and Morocco. David came home in 1967 and immediately made his mark by turning the business into the best hotel and restaurant in the city. The latter was so successful that the restaurant ran at least two sittings, and sometimes three, at peak times. David initiated the success of St Michaels’s Manor hotel and then used it as a stepping stone, in 1969, towards creating his own successful career in the hotel industry. Two of his first projects being to convert The Black Lion, from a doss house to a hotel-restaurant, and then Sopwell House retirement home into an hotel, both in St Albans. Whilst in back in St Albans David met and married local girl, Sheila Nutt, in 1967 and they subsequently had three children, Philippa, Nicola and Richard. Richard actually became the third generation Newling Ward to manage the hotel and was General Manager between 2000 and 2004. David left St Albans behind in the 1970’s having already handed the reins back to his father, who then instigated the construction of a Victorian style conservatory-restaurant around 1975. Although keeping a watchful eye from a distance it wasn’t until 1995, after his parents had died, that David took back control of St Michael’s Manor. At this time the reputation and

standards had continued to rise and elevated the hotel to one of the best Hertfordshire and a very popular venue for weddings. This wasn’t enough for David who, with his drive for perfection and passion for architecture thought St Michael’s had more to offer. Not averse to taking risks David invested heavily in the décor; renovating and restoring

one acre lake. In fact the award winning gardens lend much to the character and relaxed ambience of the property with the collection of British trees giving their names to the bedrooms, instead using a traditional numbering system. This year the lake edge has undergone considerable renovation and a replanting schedule around the perimeter will enhance the already

where necessary; and lifting the traditional and classical style with sympathetic modern touches. Although the manor gardens have reduced in size since 1965, by selling off small portions to enlarge neighbouring gardens and, in few cases some housing plots, they still remain a healthy and well manicured five acres today still incorporating, of course, a

magnificent views from the orangery-restaurant and terrace. The hotel was originally thirty bedrooms, with a small staff block added in the late 1960’s. However, over a period of time the Newling Ward’s carefully and tastefully upgraded the bedrooms; making some bigger by taking over storage and office spaces to the extent that bedroom numbers were down to

22, but with the benefit of the hotel being upgraded from two stars to four. The staff block was then converted to the luxurious Garden Wing in 2007 creating eight new bedrooms and returning the hotel to its original 30. As you can imagine running a Grade II Listed Building has its challenges, especially as a hotel, as every improvement has to be meticulously planned and involves a thorough consultation period with the local planners, conservation officers and heritage groups. It took nearly ten years of negotiations before the Garden Wing was completed. However the latest £½ million refurbishment, finished in April 2012, included replacing the conservatory with an orangery, was only a 15 month project. All ground floor public areas were redecorated in a modern-classic style, including the lounges, restaurant and bar, and to great critical acclaim. The famous relaxed atmosphere has been enhanced and the orangery, which looks like it’s always been there, has become even more popular as a wedding venue. The hotel held nearly 70 weddings in 2011 and this will rise to over 90 in 2012. So for both the Gapes and the Newling Wards the manor has been a family affair. Sheila looks after the soft furnishings, Richard became an interior designer in 2007 (now based in Australia) oversees the design concepts, and Philippa looking after the brand image. Sadly David passed away in September 2011, immensely proud of his achievement and safe in the knowledge that the legacy passed on to him by the Gapes will continue for many more years to come. Surprisingly close and only a short walk to the city centre, yet sitting in five acres of private gardens, and located in the most historical part of St Albans, St Michael’s Manor is a delightful retreat. Only quick trip up the M40 and M25 and you’ll be amazed at what the hotel and city can offer. DECEMBER2011 87

oşgeldeniz –which means ‘welcome’ – is a word you will hear often on your visit to Turkey. You can smell a rich, sweetness that tells you that they’re making chocolate on the premises with also hot chocolates using traditional 70% akes, or avours like salted caramel, mole or matcha. One of their latest creations are their ‘chocolate dippers’ which is a wooden spoon around which chocolate has been encased. All you do is heat the milk and stir them in, which is an easy way to have a good hot chocolate experience at home. They come in dierent avours, sea salted caramel being the classic.

59 Ledbury Road W11 Warm yourself up with their single origin Hot Chocolate Blocks, each with individual avour notes. Indulgence rarely comes more easily than this: for a luscious chocolate drink, simply dissolve one of Melt’s chocolate blocks in a cup of hot milk - and voila! The stylishly wrapped blocks come in several dierent avours including Venezuela Dark, Milk Madagascar, Caribbean Single, Columbia Single and Four Mixed Origin Dark. B63=0@=;/ 1/1/=

43 Turnham Green Terrace, W4 1RG Hopefully this far down in this article you’ll have learned that one hot chocolate is not like another, and in the case of Tehobroma Cacao they have ten of their own for you to taste before you even consider going to another store. The ‘house blend’ is 62% coco and is made with a mix of dark and milk chocolate and smells a little of vanilla. They whisk the akes into the milk for each batch. Which ever avour you choose, and the ginger and chilli options are some of their most popular, you’ll get a free true on the side! William Curley 198 Ebury Street, Belgravia & 10 Paved Court, Richmond William Curley is a man who knows chocolate. His chocs, pastries and opulent deserts are both beautiful looking and beautiful to eat. So it is no surprise that his hot chocolates are pretty special as well. They use Amedei Toscano chocolate akes which are 70% cocoa, served with a ratio of about one part chocolate to four parts hot milk – with a little froth on top. With a bit of extra milk on the side in case it’s just too chocolatey for you. Depending on the time of year they also serve cinnamon, chilli or hazelnut praline infused varieties.

Cool 7 christmas cocktails By Levanah Reyes-Wainwright.

nstead of dragging yourself out in the cold for drinks this Christmas, why not invite your friends round for a cosy Christmas Cocktail or two! Here are four simple but utterly delicious cocktail recipes that you can shake for the festive season. Drake & Morgan (www. drakeandmorgan.com) suggest making this easy tipple to toast the festive season if you are planning a cocktail party.

vanilla stick (to taste) Add all the ingredients apart from the vanilla stick, lime and passion fruit to a cocktail shaker and shake! Pour into a chilled tumbler over ice and garnish with the lime wedge and passion fruit. For a fragrant sweet blast add a vanilla stick. As an alternative to traditional sharing of drinks like mulled wine and egg nog, how about trying this simple recipe for the new kid on the block, 2==:3G¸A B=4433 B=22G

1 part Dooley’s Original Toee & Vodka 1 part milk 1 part double cream 1/2 part cognac Whole nutmeg or ground nutmeg Cinnamon sticks Apple and orange peel (optional)

A:3756 03::A 1=19B/7:

20ml Amaretto 15ml Drambruie 15ml Crème de Peche 6 Fresh raspberries Muddle the raspberries in a cocktail shaker. Then ďŹ ll halfway with ice, add the remaining ingredients and shake. Strain into a sugar rimed martini glass and garnish with a mint leaf and blackberries. To add a touch of decadence to any Christmas gathering, Lahiru De Silva, Head Barman of the Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa recommends trying your hand at this.

Pour the Dooley’s, milk, cream and cognac into a pan. Add cinnamon sticks, a sprinkle of nutmeg and chopped apple (optional) and orange peel; and gently heat over a stove for 5-10 minutes. Pour into latte glass or thick tumbler, served with an extra sprinkling of nutmeg. Alternatively, the cocktail can be served cold over ice.

For those designated drivers among you, Don Simon, Spain’s number one juice brand, oers up this simple yet still delicious mocktail.
