Like many digital scams, criminal activity has become highly sophisticated and nearly always involves the criminal pretending to be your conveyancing solicitor to con you into providing payment into an account they control.
How does a conveyancing scam normally work?
Conveyancing scams normally happen via email. Typical fraud signs in the email include spelling mistakes, and often a change of salutation - for example the fraudster may address you as sir/madam rather than by your name.
The email address can often be a giveaway, and this should be checked before replying. Scam email addresses will invariably include the firm’s name but pay attention to the information after the @ symbol.
What can I do to protect myself from conveyancing fraud?
1. Beware of changes to payment details - Solicitors rarely change their bank details. If you receive an email stating a change in bank details, call a published telephone number from your solicitors website to ask.
2. Transfer a small amount of funds firstCall your solicitor in advance of making any money transactions – if in doubt, transfer a small amount of money to check receipt before transferring larger sums.
3. Set strong and separate passwords for your accounts - A strong password comprises random words, numbers and symbols.
4. Avoid posting on social platforms about buying or selling your home - Criminals monitor social media platforms to build information on anyone buying or selling their home.
5. Avoid using unprotected wi-fi systems to check emails – Avoid using any public wi-fi system to check progress of your purchase/sale.

When going through a divorce, if you’re a parent, you’ll undoubtedly want your child to experience the least amount of disruption as possible. A large part of this may be trying to keep them in the same school with their friends. If, however, your child goes to a fee-paying school, you may be worried about whether these payments will continue, which could add stress to what can be an already anxious time. Laura Mortimer, family partner at B P Collins advises.
Try to reach an agreement with your spouse
Involving the courts to determine how your child’s school fees will be paid should always be a last resort, because it is always in a child’s best interests to have parents who are in agreement. No matter what you and your former spouse think of each other, those feelings should be kept away from your children. Moreover, the court process can be very slow and costly. A lawyer should, based upon their experience, suggest possibilities you might not have thought about and explore other options to help reach an agreement, including mediation or arbitration.
and/ or your former spouse pay the school fees. Whether the court is willing to order this provision will depend very much upon the circumstances of the case and the funds available. The court will also have to consider the income, earning capacity, duration of the marriage, contributions, standard of living during the marriage, part of which will be the children having a private education.
However, you may need to prepare for the possibility that your former spouse may stop paying their contribution towards school fees, when you’re going through a divorce. A good family lawyer will tackle this early on and record an agreement in writing.

This month I have chosen a recipe making good use of an amazing ingredient which passes the baton in the kitchen from winter into early spring, offering a burst of colour and delicious flavour. Forced Yorkshire rhubarb is celebrated by chefs for its unique flavour and versatility and this recipe is perfect to prepare in advance making a show stopping desert which can be finished off last minute allowing more time to enjoy the company of
your guests or indeed your family. As with all rhubarb the secret is to ensure it is cooked but not overcooked taking into account the residual heat after cooking ensures you are left with the full flavour colour and a little texture of this premium ingredient. Both ginger and orange sit perfect with rhubarb and the hibiscus tea as an additional poaching medium boosts flavour to the next level and reinforces that wonderful pink colour
Orange sorbet:
• 175 g granulated sugar
• 6 blood oranges juiced (regular sweet oranges can be used instead if blood oranges not available)
• 1 lemon juiced
Crème analgise:
• 8 Egg yolks
• 50g castor sugar
• 2 x vanilla pod split
• 250 ml milk
• 250 ml double Cream
Method
Sorbet
Compote:
• 1 kg forced rhubarb peeled and cut into chunks
• 1 x vanilla pod split
• 100 ml orange Juice
• 75 g caster sugar
• 100 ml strained hibiscus tea
• Splash of ginger wine
• 100 g ginger biscuits crushed
• 100 g brioche crumbed in liquidiser
1. Place the sugar and 15oml water in a small pan and simmer for 5 – 10 minutes until syrupy.
2. Remove from the heat and cool.
3. Stir the orange and lemon juice into the syrup then pour into an ice cream machine and churn until smooth and frozen – alternatively place in a tray and freeze stirring every half hour to prevent crystallisation for the first two hours.
Crème Anglaise
1. Whisk the egg yolks together with the sugar – warm the milk and the cream in a thick bottomed pan with the vanilla pods until nearly boiling.
2. Pour slowly onto the egg mixture whisking all the time.
3. Please back in the pan and whisk over a gentle heat until thickened
4. Leave to cool and then remove vanilla pods.
Compote
1. Place the rhubarb chunks in a pan and cook very gently with the split vanilla pod, caster sugar , orange juice and strained hibiscus tea with a splash of ginger wine. Leave to cool.
2. Toast the brioche crumbs on a tray in a hot oven 200 degrees C until golden add the crushed ginger biscuits and combine
Place the compote in the bottom of six pretty glasses. Add a layer of crème anglaise then place a thin layer of the crumble on top and finish with a quenelle of the luxious blood orange sorbet and enjoy!

With online services becoming the norm, separating couples may wonder, “Do I need a solicitor to deal with my divorce?”
While individuals can deal with a divorce themselves, it is not advisable. Finalising a divorce is seen by many as the only objective in a divorce situation. However, many other associated issues often need to be dealt with alongside, too.
An initial response to this article might be solicitors wanting to avoid losing potential clients. Although this is undoubtedly a factor, consider whether an individual had a medical condition they spoke to their doctor about. Would the doctor advise them to deal with their treatment themselves after the initial consultation?
People approach specialists because they lack the necessary expertise to deal with the issue in question themselves. However, when it comes to family issues, individuals often feel that they can deal with this area of law themselves rather than engaging the services of a family solicitor.
Individuals do not like paying solicitors at the best of times. In some areas of law, such as a property purchase, instructing a solicitor is necessary and something you can budget. However, when it comes to dealing with a divorce, this can be completely unexpected.
In these circumstances, something has gone wrong for that individual personally. They are now facing the additional concern of meeting an unexpected expenditure by getting someone to help them deal with their problem.

If someone feels able to deal with all of the above
and progress the proceedings themselves, they are free to do so.

Celebrating its 650th birthday in 2023, this hip, offbeat city in the southwest has a programme of events planned throughout the year. During the annual Inter national Balloon Fiesta (August 10-13), 100 hot air balloons will fill the sky, while back at sea level, the Harbour Festival (July 14-16) is a maritime spectacle with family-friendly on-water activities. Later in the year, the newly-refurbished Bristol Beacon (formerly known as Colston Hall) will open as a state-of-the-art concert hall, with two international standard performance venues, a restaurant, and its cellars in use for the first time as education and performance spaces.

Whilst menopause is becoming more widely talked about, it’s still a subject full of confusion, fear and anxiety.
I’ve been teaching Pilates in Wooburn Green, Bucks for 5 years and was inspired to become certified to teach menopause management by my students who shared with me how under prepared for menopause they felt.
Some women don’t experience symptoms at all, however the majority of women do, and this can have a physical and mental impact on every aspect of life including relationships, work and self-esteem.

How do I decorate my living room for Spring?

In this instance, the door fronts are bookmatched with vertical grain in Smoked Oak. The division of where each door or drawer starts and another one finishes is almost invisible, allowing the beauty of the wood and the overall design to take centre stage.
The resurgence of darker hues has definitely been seen across all Poggenpohl Studios, and on this kitchen the cabinetry has been paired with paler worktops as well as metallics to help lift the room and bounce light around the space. The walls are decorated with antique bronze mirror glass; a subtle take on mirrored finishes in the home, it creates muted reflections and warms the space.
Here, the designer opted for open wall shelving, for the client to display sentimental as well as more visually appealing items, while the large drawers and doors below the Calacatta Imperiale Porcelain are for every day crockery and cutlery. A fabulous addition to this space was the creation and installation of a bespoke hanging shelf from the ceiling above the peninsula. Made in the same Smoked Oak as the doors with an embedded LED strip for overhead task lighting.
The ‘Showcase’ glass fronted cabinets that sit under the hob on the return of the island also have Antique Bronze Mirror Glass in the backs, sending light bouncing around and filling the inside with a soft, warm glow. The glass on the doors is tinted, and it’s encased in bronze Aluminium frames. These stunning display cabinets with integrated lighting, can be used for decorative items, as well as ornaments

As technology advances, screens dominate and robots seem like a very imminent possibility, our homes are turning their backs on perfectly precision-made modern designer furniture and back to the simplest and most honest of decoration – the irregular and imperfect.
Contemporary furniture, lighting, rugs and accessories have taken a distinct turn for the uneven, a sidestep from the ‘bring the outdoors in’ trend that has ruled over contemporary home design for the past few years.
