A great selection of very varied events will be on offer such as: art, drama, music, dance, talks, theatre, poetry, walks, beer festivals and cider tastings. Even the local Fire-fighters and Police Officers are getting involved with a Fire Station Community Safety Day, which was a great hit with children and grown-ups alike last year. e Woodford Festival is an annual community event, now in its fifth year, celebrating local talent. It has become a great showcase for all the wonderful people, clubs, associations and schools in Woodford and environs who are talented in one way or another and who would like to share this with the community through art, drama and music to name but a few. Enjoy your issue and we look forward to seeing you in November.

LOCAL PROPERTY

Phillip Leigh PHILLIP LEIGH 'S LOCAL PROPERTY MARKET THE LAST OF THE SUMMER WINE Now that the summer, what little we had, is behind us, we must look forward to 2013 which, believe it or not, is less than three months away. I have always labelled this period as the last window of opportunity in the year, for those wishing to sell. Particularly if they are selling a rural or semi-rural property, as these homes

CHESTER ROAD, CHIGWELL £795,000

benefit from being shown during daylight hours, of which there is very little during the winter period, and from their verdant setting which is virtually non existent during the winter months. In these troubled times it is very difficult to predict the future of our local property market, for even with all my 40+ years of experience, I have to admit that I have never encountered a period where interest rates have been the lowest for half a century, along with exceptionally low inflation. We are faced with a market of scarcity in stock and quality buyers. e local property market is at present maintained on an artificially high level of value due solely to the lack of supply of quality

REPTON PARK £1,295,000

EMBASSY COURT, SNARESBROOK £450,000

homes. e past few weeks, however, have seen the possibility of a wind of change. Owners who are serious about selling are now at long last retrieving their heads from the sand and, all be it reluctantly, conceding the fact that in the majority of cases, their home is worth less than it was considered to be in mid 2007. You will be pleased to hear that this does not apply to all property, as in the majority of cases, houses below £500,000 or so, have still maintained their 2007 values. In other cases it is quite definite that there has been a de-valuation from just a few thousand pounds to as much as 30% of their former values at the top end. I can from personal experience testify that the top end property has been hit hardest. My own home for

example received several offers in excess of £3.75million back in the beginning of 2007, but the best offer I have recently received , is £2.75million. As for apartments, I have evidence of many that were sold in 2003 and 2007 (values being at that time similar). If the same apartments were entered into the market today they would only achieve 75% of the price paid at that time. Whilst speaking of apartments, it is important to understand that all apartments are now receiving keen competition from new developments being built in Chigwell, Loughton and Woodford. One particular development coming on stream in Chigwell this month is Weston Homes development of Silverhind Court, which has been built to

the highest standard on the site of the Bald Hind Public House. I personally worked on the design of this superb development along with my friend and colleague, Charlie Biss of the BB Partnership, a local architect of renown. ese are setting a new bench mark in quality and 21st Century design and in my view offer outstanding value at around only £400 per sq.ft. My advice this month for serious buyers, is to appreciate that this may be your last opportunity to acquire a property at a major discount. However, don’t push your luck and appreciate that there is always an exception to the rule. Such exceptions in the local market are mainly those which I describe as “trophies” along with homes of “unique distinction”. Just before closing I would respectfully remind you that not all of the homes we have for sale are shown on our Website. Several are being offered confidentially, and should a home of distinction be of interest to you, please contact me personally. Phillip Leigh is principal of Phillip Leigh Associates of Chigwell. It’s Festival Time

OPEN DAY AT WOODFORD FIRE STATION 2011

A

FESTIVAL JAZZ OUTSIDE THE GEORGE PUB, SOUTH WOODFORD

fter a summer of celebrations in London and throughout the UK, Woodford has not stopped celebrating yet: it is getting ready for a swinging time from Saturday 6th October to Sunday 14th Oct 2012 when the greater Woodford area will be host to over 100 different Festival events in over 40 different locations as part of the Woodford Festival 2012. A great selection of very varied events will be on offer such as: art, drama, music, dance, talks, theatre, poetry, walks, beer festivals and cider tastings. Even the local Fire-fighters and Police Officers are getting involved with a Fire Station Community Safety Day, which was a great hit with children and grown ups alike last year. e Woodford Festival is an annual community event, now in its fifth year, celebrating local talent. It has become a great showcase for all the wonderful people, clubs, associations and schools in Woodford and environs who are talented in one way or another and who would like to share this with the community through art, drama and music to name but a few. e Festival is the brain child of local Councillor Richard Hoskins who thought that not only Ilford, Loughton, Chingford, Wanstead and other areas in Redbridge should have Festivals but Woodford, quite rightly, deserved one too! His idea was to get a few volunteers together and have a weekend of events to showcase local talent. Imagine his surprise when 20 people turned up for the first meeting (with growing numbers ever since) and the enthusiasm was such that the first Festival, in October 2008, ran for 9 days to accommodate the variety of events on offer. ey have never looked back since. Although the Woodford Festival Association receives grants to run the yearly Festival (this year’s grants from the Area 2 Committee, the London Borough of Redbridge and the East London Community Foundation are gratefully acknowledged) it could not survive without the support from the people who run the numerous venues, local places of worship, local stores, libraries, clubs, pubs and businesses. It could also simply not happen without the unrelenting, enthusiastic help from all the volunteers who give their time and talents freely to create this wonderful community event which has become an important

22

MOSAICS AT THE FESTIVAL ARTS & CRAFTS FAIR 2011

item in the local calendar. It’s great to know that community spirit is alive and kicking in Woodford! is year, a mobile stage will start things off on the Opening Day of the Festival, Saturday 6th October, bringing a selection of the entertainment that’s in store during the nine days of the Festival to the three local shopping centres: Woodford Bridge (10-11.30am), e Broadway (12noon-2pm) and George Lane (3pm-5pm). Shoppers will get a taste of the entertainment events on offer during the Festival and can pick up programmes and information on forthcoming events from the yellow T-shirt stewards. e rest of the week will be equally varied and will see music in all its forms: from the toe-tapping rhythms of jazz bands, smooth jazz vocals, organ recitals, choral concerts by local choirs, classical music, opera performances, Gilbert & Sullivan songs, rock music and award winning rap - it’s all there for the taking. Several walks, Zumba and Salsa classes, the local Golf Club participation, a Barn Dance and Morris dancing will make sure exercise is taken care of. A Festival Coffee Morning with yummy cakes, an Italian Festa, an Afternoon Tea, an apple cider pressing Demo & Tasting plus Beer Festivals will be of interest to the hungry and thirsty while art is represented by several art exhibitions, an Arts & Crafts event and Woodford’s very own Arts Trail with several local artists opening their homes to show their work. A Magic night with Magic Circle Magicians, several illustrated talks, theatre performances, quiz nights, ……… too many events to individually name but one thing is certain: Woodfordians and visitors will be totally spoilt for choice and will certainly find something to their liking. Festival events will be free or low cost and several charities will be profiting from the proceeds and collections. Printed colour programmes are now available from the Woodford and South Woodford libraries, churches, pubs and participating venues in the local area and many have been delivered to local residents. See website: www.woodfordfestival.org.uk for information & for the 2012 programme details and come and join in the fun!

WELCOME TO THE WINE FACTOR THIS MONTH OUR WINE CONNOISSEUR CELEBRATES WINES FROM ARGENTINA

S

tephen Murphy hosts ‘e Wine Factor’ at 75 Station Road, Chingford, an independent wine shop. He has wine running through his veins having been in the business all his working life and sources wines from around the globe.

26

OCTOBER2012

e Wine Factor offers a heady range of wines and beers backed up with knowledge and expertise – it’s not just a purchase, it’s an experience. Fifteen years ago Argentina burst onto the market after a slow start, having elected at the time to concentrate on their own varietals rather than the Chilean approach to making

wine from grape varietals more appealing to the UK (Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc for example). By sticking to their guns, they have now embedded in the hearts of consumers, grape varietals such as Malbec and Torrontes which to be honest no one had ever heard of, let alone tasted. is rapid growth has led Argentina to become the fifth largest producer in the world and allowed a new generation of winemakers to show us the delights of Argentina. So leaving Politics aside, here are some reasons to buy Argentinian wines this month. Michel Torino Coleccion Malbec, 2010- Calchaqui Valley, RSP: £9.99, this month £7.49 e blackcurrant and plum aromas from this wine, always associated with this grape, are in abundance and six months in French oak gives the wine spicy and fruity flavours with nice body and integrated tannins. A perfect mid-week wine and a great introduction to the wonder that is Malbec Amalya, Torrontes/Riesling 2011, Cafayate , Salta- £9.99 We go to Salta again for this wine. Torrontes is another grape varietal that thrives here. According to the winemaker, when I met him in early September, unfortunately in the shop and not in-situ, Riesling was added as an experiment. What an experiment. It has just picked up the Decanter International Trophy for dry aromatic wine under £10. Floral on the nose, as one would expect, but the purity and intensity of peach, lime zest and elderflower that jump out of the glass catches you off guard. Typical lychee flavours associated with Riesling combine with pink grapefruit that tantalise the tasetebuds and leave you with an overwhelming sense of euphoria. With this

major title under its belt I am sure stocks will be limited! Dona Paula Pinot Noir 2008 and Malbec 2010 , Mendoza, RRP £12.99 now just £10.99 or 2 for £20 to LIFE readers Situated around Mendoza, the Malbec has the classic flavours of plum and black cherry, with a liquorice undertone. Sweet, round and generous in the mouth with a lingering finish. e Pinot Noir was handpicked in bunches in early March and were gently destemmed. Kept in French oak barrels for 10 to 12 Months, you get aromas of raspberries, cherries and earthy with a hint of mint. A medium bodied Pinot Noir with firm tannins and freshness for a wine this age. Grab them both for a true Argentinean experience. Tanguero Shiraz, 2010 usually £7.99 now just £6.99 for October A lot of wine for the price. Producer Finca Flichman has a long tradition in winemaking and is probably one of the most familiar to the UK consumer. e winemaker, Luis Cabral de Almeida, asserts that the company is all about “Attitude with Altitude”. is wine has deep ruby red hues with aromas of ripe vanilla. On the palate the wine is full bodied with ripe noticeable tannins. Finishing long and luscious. I also have to mention that I have an amazing Malbec from Colome. Made with 90 to 150 year old vines (almost unheard of ) this wine has so much intensity it is definitely worth the £50 price tag. With few bottles allocated to the UK it would be an amazing gift for those thinking about Christmas but this wine is extremely limited. I should say that I plan to enjoy it with my Christmas dinner. www.thewinefactor.co.uk n

ifeWorks, a new building devoted to adventures in Creative Arts, was formerly opened last month by the Church family of Loughton Methodist Church. It sits behind the Church and is connected to the existing Wesley Hall to create a more flexible space consisting of a drama studio, creative arts studios, office, kitchen, and extensive courtyard area and storage. LifeWorks at LMC will also be the new home for the Christian Drama Resource Centre (CDRC) a charity that provides theatrical costumes on loan and educational services of storytelling and drama to local schools, churches and community groups. e charity is the vision of LMC member Andrea Moles who first set out her stall 35 years ago. In that time her vast collection of theatre costumes and props was stored in her house for many years before moving to other premises in Loughton. Now the collection has returned home and housed in an extensive storage unit. LifeWorks has taken a year to materialise and the work cost £700,000 of which £250,000 was given by an anonymous donor to be used to support the work of CDRC. Without this generous donation the plans for the new building would never have happened. at magnificent gift was met with equal enthusiasm by the Methodist Forest Circuit, which pledged £167,000, and the rest came from grants and donations. Andrea Moles, who heads up CDRC, said “It was totally incredible that someone anonymous would do that for us. It hasn’t just made an impact on CDRC; it’s made an impact on the members of LMC.” Rev Tony Morling, Minister at LMC said “We are so proud of our new building. Our dream is that the combined energies of the Christian Drama Resource Centre and Loughton Methodist Church will enable the Christian arts to flourish in a new Creative Arts Centre that provides a catalyst to people of all ages to explore life through the arts.”

NEW BEGINNINGS…. Stephanie Wrench has joined the team as Creative Arts Facilitator straight from her role with the Riding Lights eatre Company. She said “I am thrilled to be at the start of this exciting venture and delighted by the warm welcome I have received from the people of Loughton.” Stephen Pewsey, Mayor of Loughton Town Council, said “God’s faithful people have always been at the core of Loughton life. ere has been a Methodist Church in Loughton since 1885 and its outreach has been guiding and inspiring this town ever since. Congratulations on making dreams happen particularly in a very difficult economic time.” e whole building is designed to be almost carbon neutral in use including advanced insulation solar heated hot water, two mono-draughts to control temperature, LED lighting in most areas and under-floor heating. A range of activities celebrated the opening including entertainment and workshops including mask making and family arts and crafts. White doves were released, courtesy of the White Dove Company, in celebration and to represent a symbol of love, faith and devotion. www.thewhitedovecompany.co.uk A magnificent tree sculpture adorns the front entrance. It was carved by church member John Hart from English Oak which was sourced locally. John said “LifeWorks is all about outreach and mission to all people. It was important to include faces on the tree and let the imagination wonder about them. Links with the Arts are important thus paintbrushes, masks and calligraphy. Our faith is symbolised through the fish symbol and Chi-Ro. Its finish reminds us the forest is round the corner with the natural shape and colour enhanced. Everyone should fee free to touch it.” e building is expected to house many community groups and offer a wide range of activities. local life EXTENDING THAT AMERICAN

Holiday Feeling… At Home! WORDS: MICHELLE HARRIS

M

ost of us have now returned home from our summer holidays. e weather has been awful, rain has taken most of us to the point of saturation, and those few random hot days before the summer holidays, feel like a lifetime ago. e kids are back at nursery, school, university… We’re back in the familiar routine which seems to have returned, rather too quickly. So how do we extend the holiday experience? September is generally meagre with respect to fun. Making up for time away from the office or business, cramming in two months of work into one, plus of course, the slow start as most of us have calmed down the adrenalin in order to relax. Getting back into that treadmill is unappealing and daunting, so far removed from the swimming pools, beaches, sun bathing and leisurely pottering around, that are the joys of the summer interval; which recharges and revitalises us, before the onslaught of autumn and the slippery slope into winter.

perfect choice. To finish off the holiday experience, an American themed meal. Good fun for couples or families and easy to park. e Old Orleans Restaurant in Epping. Most of us have at some point, frequented this Michelle Harris restaurant. I’ve not visited New Orleans (yet) so this restaurant will have to suffice as an allegedly authentic experience until I can confirm otherwise… But it’s all good fun and in some small way, helps towards the extension of a summer holiday experience. And at least we don’t need to worry about ESTA, long uncomfortable flights and driving on the other side of the road. But actually, I’d still prefer to be in the US… But Epping is cheaper and nearer!

Welcome Home!

When out and about on my travels, attending business meetings or networking events, I often hear clients, friends and colleagues, talk excitedly about recent holiday golfing experiences, then sigh at the abrupt halt to the golfing fun due to British weather. Outdoors, fresh air, exercise, chance to tan, a little gossip around the tees? So what’s the connection between outdoor fun playing golf – and rainy winters? Well there is a solution which offers golf, regardless of weather, space, access to a golf course or even a covered garden. Innovative equipment which gives you the feeling of Monte Carlo, Florida or in fact, ANY famous golf course at home, or for an event. Simulator Golf (see bottom of editorial for details). All you need is an hour to set-up and 4m x 4m of space. Whether rain, sun, snow, or sleet, weather will not affect your game of golf. For those of us who enjoy Florida, walking around those malls or outlets is fantastic. Although Westfield is very close by, for an almost Floridian experience, Bluewater is unparalleled. e architect was very carefully chosen, Eric Kuhne: an American. His other projects since Bluewater include the Epicentre in Las Vegas, Island Gardens in Miami and e Mall in Kuwait. So again, regardless of the weather (as Bluewater is indoors) and to briefly pretend you’re in sunnier climes and on the other side of the pond, Bluewater is the

WHO, AT SOME POINT IN THEIR LIVES, HASN’T DESIRED

THEIR OWN ISLAND? The Osros floating Island is designed to offer the billionaire super-yacht lifestyle, for mere millionaire money. It’s hard to give a name to this unique structure — is it a boat or an island? The Osros floating island was designed as a way to have the best of both worlds. It is over 20 metres wide and more than 37 metres in length, and with about 400 m² on three floors, the Island offers up to 1,000 m² of living space. It boasts six luxury double bedrooms, with space for 12 residents and accommodation for up to four staff members.

Buyers can tailor the interior and design to their individual needs. The sun deck area features sun roof loungers, a BBQ area, Jacuzzi, and a bar with seating for up to 15 people. There is storage for water sports and diving equipment and a mooring for motor boats along with a handy hatch for loading and unloading of provisions. The main deck hosts a spacious living room and lounge with exotic aquarium, regulated lighting and air supply.

But let’s get into the details; they’ll have you mouth-watering in no time… 36

of US$100 million, but Orsos Island creator Gábor Orsós aims to combine the positive aspects of mainland real estate and luxury yachts at much reduced cost, albeit in comparison to superyachts.

Six 20m² state rooms, with en-suite bathrooms, are accessible through the living room, half a level lower, and boast large windows that afford a panoramic view of the surrounding area.

He explains: ‘In the beginning, my goal was to create an exclusive, high-quality hotel chain based on floating platforms. With the progress of the project it became clear that the attractive and unusual concept of Orsos Islands should not be limited to only a selected group of people.’Orsos Islands should reach a much broader audience, people with an awareness of modern life and a feeling of responsibility towards the environment.’

There is what the manufacturers describe as an ‘autonomous power supply based energy system’ powered, both day and night, by a noiseless wind energy system, as well as more than 120 m2 of solar panels making the most use of daylight. Heat recovery from sea water is the basis for heating and air conditioning. Previous floating island designs have come with price tags in excess

The Austrian-based company has begun manufacture of the prototype in Germany and Hungary and hope show it to the public at the end of 2013.

FASHION

The vibrant and internationally renowned London Fashion Week is always exciting and inspirational, and last month’s event proved to be just that. London Fashion Week presented another unrivalled opportunity for both established designers and newcomers to present their latest collections. A constantly buzzing key event for those who haven’t got the patience to wait until the latest fashion designs and stylish fashion trends make it into the fashion magazines. 62 catwalk shows and 20 presentations took place across the 5 days. Burberry Prorsum Show Shines On London Fashion Week A-listers packed a marquee in Hyde Park for the Burberry Show, with Harry Styles and Samantha Cameron among those in attendance. The Burberry Show is more of an experience than a fashion show. Over 1,000 people attended for what has become one of the most exclusive and talked about events at London Fashion Week. Samantha Cameron, Anna Wintour, Mario Testino, Dita Von Teese, Harvey Weinstein, Dev Patel, Harry Styles of One Direction and Andy Murray took their seats on the front row. They also unveiled a flagship store on London’s Regent’s Street, boasting a multimedia experience for the customer. Vivienne Westwood welcomes us into her British Royal garden Dame Vivienne Westwood’s Red Label Collection was awash with punky

40

prettiness. Westwood’s 80s muse, model and actress Sara Stockbridge took to the mic rocking out with her bleach blonde locks, green eyes and tartan two-piece underneath the gorgeous arches of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to set the scene for the outrageous show entitled ‘Climate Revolution’. Keeping things green, the Red Label collection was inspired by British royal gardens which became clear with Charlotte Free debuting an avantgarde flower headpiece at the start of the show. From Renaissance style to the Victorian era, the garden has catered bowling to tennis, picnics to weddings and even the humble garden party, which Westwood took as inspiration for her micro checks, fine wools, lily pad fluid jersey, metallics and regal midnight blues. Headpieces were a real focus, from simple straw hats to flower garlands and printed silk head-scarves, whilst point toe heels and boots were a footwear feature point. Models sauntered down the runway with bright painted faces, heavy blue eyelids and tight 50s curls in true Westwood style. As the show drew to a close, it was sad to see the end of the luxurious fabrics and sequinned wonders, but we knew something was around the corner. The lady herself skipped onto the catwalk with Alice Dellal and Charlotte Free in toe draped in rich bronze opening out a sign saying ‘Climate Revolution’.

Lady Gaga opens Philip Treacy’s show Milliner Philip Treacy marked his return London Fashion Week with a show opened by Lady Gaga and featuring only black models. Treacy, the designer whose hat caused a stir at last year’s royal wedding, was used the Royal Courts of Justice for what was his first show in the capital in a decade. Gaga was on hand to open proceedings – although she surprisingly declined to sing at the event. Instead she took to the catwalk in a pair of towering platforms by Alexander McQueen and a pink flowing gown which covered her face, declaring Treacy to be ‘the greatest milliner in the world’. The show paid tribute to Michael Jackson, with one hat featuring a mini fairground based on the late singer’s Neverland ranch. Featuring models Naomi Campbell and Alek Wek and singer Grace Jones, all models on the catwalk wore items from Jackson’s wardrobe teamed with a Treacy hat. Christopher Kane Day 4 of London Fashion Week, saw one of the most high profile designers take to the spotlight to present his Spring / Summer 2013 offering. The Central Saint Martin’s graduate is known for his attention to detail in the form of embellishment which tends to really step outside of the fashion box, pushing boundaries in a forward thinking, yet somewhat sinister, way. The show set up, portrayed this, rebuffing all the fashion week front row nonsense, with a super long holographic catwalk with only one single row.

Beginning on white (like so many of the Spring / Summer 2013 collections this London Fashion Week), focus lay quite clearly on texture and shape, with zips, cut outs, tailoring and detail. Moving on to powder pinks and neon yellows, in super simple and minimalist shapes, there was a focus on origami style fold-over texture. Then came the detail; ruffled modern textures made an interesting highlight alongside embellished lace and sheer organzas. Stand outs for me included the perspex style ruffles in pastel shades and ultra modern embellishments. Mulberry With a star-studded front row and clothes inspired by an English garden. Eleven Mulberry handbags lined the floor in front of the company’s celebrity front row at Claridge’s. There were fashion show regulars including Kate Moss, Alexa Chung and Olivia Palermo.Jessica Ennis was there too, sporting a Bayswater bag. They can usually be found wearing tight restrictive corsets for their roles in hit BBC show Downton Abbey. But Joanne Froggatt and Elizabeth McGovern opted for something more comfortable as they made an appearance at the Mulberry show. The pair led the way for famous faces attending the highly-anticipated show. With all the front-row attention Emma Hill’s collection had to compete, but it did by lining the way into Claridge’s with acid pastel garden gnomes and garlanding the catwalk with climbing roses: the show was themed around an English garden. From racy, oversized biker jackets to staid long peacoats

via side-pleated skirts and gardening-unsuitable booties, most everything featured kooky floral or gecko motifs. Pleated-at-the-neck shirts in apricot and sunflower yellow (motif-free) were demure yet devastating, there was a beautiful Windsor-collar gecko jacquard suit, and a three-year old poodle named Max made his London fashion week debut wearing a matching jacquard ‘dog peacoat’. Jasper Conran Jasper Conran lit up London Fashion Week with a tropical inspired show, combining floral patterns and vibrant colours. The show gave a hint of Spring as he paraded his multi-coloured creations down the runway amongst neon lights and a catwalk made to look like grass. Walking barefoot, models sported the light-hearted creations which came in summery shades of orange and pink, with bold bright patterns and vibrant accessories. Conran revealed that he drew inspiration for his latest collection from cowboy boots and other aspects of American culture. I’ve done denim for the first time on the catwalk, so it starts quite sort of blues and whites and silvers. And then it explodes,’ the designer told Reuters. Everything has a reference back to Americana, so it’s all logically done, with a healthy dose of illogicality’ he added. Conran showed his playful side during the show, which was attended by the likes of TV presenter Christine Bleakley Jodie Kidd and Lady Victoria Hervey. House of Holland The catwalk was House of Holland was not in the usual setting, Holland’s collection was held in a car park transforming it into a clubbing paradise. Titled, ‘Buzz Kill’ the collection was full of vibrancy and full of fun, Cue the cropped jacquard trousers, embellished beanies, nineties grunge dress, oversized plaid shirts and bomber jackets – this collection did not stop giving. While most designers would make do with just one big name,

42

the 29-year-old fashionista had his front row graced by the likes of Kelly Osbourne, Alexa Chung, Nicola Roberts, Pixie Geldof and Poppy Delevingne. Known for his bold, colourful and irreverent pieces, the designer recently said: ‘I design with a London girl’s aesthetic in mind and love to see girls wearing my designs in their own unique way”. John Rocha John Rocha proved his fashion idol status with his new Spring/Summer 2013 collection. The designer unveiled an ultra-feminine range that featured frills, demi-couture textures and layers of organza in his signature voluminous style. Rocha has stuck to his forte of creating ladylike designs, making his garments resemble a beautiful garden of pale lavenders, mints, and lemons. He also offered contrast in the form of gun metal, champagne, and black and white ensembles in an array of luxurious fabrics. He played with proportions and experimented with strips of frilled cotton lace without moving too far from his trusty colour palette. To complement the whimsical theme, models took to the catwalk in large, matching cloud-like hats sculpted from folds of organza. Catwalk designers for Spring/Summer 2013 Collections also included David Koma, Fred Butler, Issa London, Louise Gray, Matthew Williamson, Nicole Farhi, Osman, Paul Smith and Temperley London. New exhibitors for SS13 include: Archibald Optics, Carla Fernandez, Danielle Romeril, E.Tautz (Womenswear), Hemyca, Honest By, Imogen Belfield, Jerome Allen Lorico, Loup Noir, Marques ‘Almeida, Mich Dulce, Modern Love, Negarin, Paper London, Rosantica, Richard Braqo, Sophia Webster, White Tent and Willow. Rag & Bone showed their collection on the official schedule for the first time, with Philip Treacy and Preen making a welcome return London Fashion

Week. New presentations to the schedule include Lucas Nascimento and Marques Almeida as part of the NEWGEN sponsored by Topshop scheme, Huishan Zhang and Willow. Official catwalk shows are: J.W. Anderson, Michael van der Ham and Simone Rocha. The newly renovated West Wing housed a brand new dedicated shoe collective showcasing a cross section of brands including Cordwainers graduate Joanne Stoker, French Sole, architectural shoe designer Julian Hakes and Kat Maconie; the eco sustainable platform Estethica; BFC Rock Vault sponsored by International Palladium Board and the new buyer’s liaison point supported by Samsung. This season’s Fashion Forward is sponsored by eBay Fashion and the Mayor of London, supporting Henry Holland, Louise Gray and Mary Katrantzou. In a first for London Fashion Week, Jonathan Saunders has worked with the BFC to create bespoke visual event branding and marketing materials that was used across London Fashion Week for the Spring/Summer 2013 season – based on an adapted version of his ombre print from Resort 2013. The magic of London Fashion Week is not merely thanks to the fashion designers’ and fashion stylists’ cutting-edge collections but the media excitement that accompanies them. The allure of the show is exceptional and London Fashion Week continues to be the top fashion event pulling visitors from every corner of the globe, with international press attending from 42 countries. It’s a week where designers are free to create at will and experiment with new trends for clothing. The world watches as fashion history is made. While we are all thinking about our autumn wardrobes and digging out our winter

jumpers in an attempt to stay warm, designers were showcasing next year’s Spring/Summer collections during last month’s London Fashion Week. The direct value of the UK fashion industry to the UK economy is £21 billion (source: BFC Value of Fashion Report 2010) The UK fashion industry is estimated to support 816,000 jobs and is the largest employer of all the creative industries. The sector also provides opportunities to minority groups to a greater extent than most other creative industries (source: BFC Value of Fashion Report 2010) ‘2012 has been an unforgettable year for our city and the serotonin is still flowing with the launch of the talentfest that is London Fashion Week. We have astonishingly creative people working in the capital, bringing energy and ideas as well as generating business. Over just a few days Fashion Week showcases our best fashion designers, puts London’s creative industries on the front pages and brings in over £100 million of orders alone” The Mayor of London Boris Johnson Fashion Week is one of the highest profile fashion events in the world and one of the ‘big four’ international catwalk influencers. The event is organised by the British Fashion Council (BFC) and funded by a number of sponsors (including Canon Europe current headline sponsor for seven consecutive seasons). London Fashion Week puts London and British Fashion firmly on the global stage, generating orders in the region of £100m; the event itself contributes £20 million to the London economy in terms of direct spend and attracts visitors from over 25 countries including US, France, Italy, Russia, Middle East, China and UAE. www.londonfashionweek.co.uk

Ash Parmar Q&A WITH “THE EXTREME MAKEOVER” COSMETIC DENTIST ASH PARMAR AVOIDING DECAY AND FILLINGS Dental decay is one of the commonest dental problems around. Many people don’t realize that decay can actually be prevented, thereby avoiding fillings, root canal treatments and further dental work. is article is important if you want healthy teeth for all your family. What is decay? Tooth decay occurs when bacteria in the plaque use sugar in food and drinks to produce ACID, which dissolves tooth surfaces. is acid causes cavities in teeth i.e. decay. What is the treatment for decay? First and foremost, education and prevention is the key. In children, we offer fissure sealants – these are tooth coloured sealants that help protect the vulnerable fissures on the biting surfaces of the molars and thus avoid decay. In adults, if there is a small or medium sized cavity, then fillings can be done with a laser without the need for injections or drilling. If there is a larger cavity, then a large white filling or a porcelain inlay should be considered. Gold and amalgam fillings are also available. Finally, if the decay is really deep and has reached the nerve, then root canal treatment is required. is intricate treatment is comfortable once the area has been numbed up, but requires increased time and can be expensive. It is ideal to place a crown over a root 44

filled tooth to protect it in the long-term. What are the advantages of tooth coloured (white) fillings? White fillings are bonded to the tooth substance. ey are strong and long lasting. e fillings also look very natural, and there is no mercury content (compared to the silver amalgam fillings). What are the two types of tooth coloured filling? Porcelain inlays or overlays are precision made porcelain fillings that are securely bonded to the tooth. ey are the most cosmetic and strongest white fillings available. is is because porcelain is made from ceramic material, as opposed to conventional white fillings (composites) that are resin based. ey are indicated for large cavities or badly broken down teeth. For small to medium sized cavities, composite fillings are ideal. We have many shades of filling materials to match your teeth perfectly. ese fillings are bonded to the tooth using a special bonding resin. We use a blue light to set the filling hard instantly so you can eat immediately. Careful attention is paid to shaping

AFTER: ARTISTICALLY SHAPED, TOOTH COLOURED FILLING

and polishing the restoration to produce an ideal and smooth finish. What are the best ways of preventing decay? 1. An annual clinical examination and regular X-rays are essential to detect and monitor decay. 2. Good oral hygiene. Patients who clean their teeth well (i.e. good tooth brushing and daily flossing) should have less decay because more of the plaque (containing bacteria) is removed. 3. Reduce the frequency of sugar intake. It is important to avoid sugary things in between meals. Each time you have something sweet to eat, the acid that is produced causes damage to the teeth for up to one hour. erefore, the more often you have something sweet, the more decay can occur. A packet of polo mints eaten at regular intervals throughout the day can do far more damage than a bar of chocolate eaten in one go! 4. A patient who is at risk from decay should use a fluoride mouthwash (e.g. Colgate Fluoriguard) regularly. Fluoride strengthens the tooth surface

(enamel) and helps resist decay. 5. Sugar free chewing gum. Chewing sugar free gum following a sweet meal will wash away the acid quicker by increasing the amount of saliva produced in your mouth. 6. Avoid sugary food/drinks last thing at night. A cup of hot chocolate just before bed is not a good idea because whilst sleeping there is no saliva flow. erefore the acid will linger on the teeth longer causing more decay. Summary At Smile Design By Ash, we provide comfortable dental care in a relaxed and unique atmosphere. Our Team members are highly professional, friendly and caring. Using the latest and best technologies and dental materials, our goal is to provide healthy, strong and long-lasting restorations. is will avoid repeat dentistry and save you money in the long-term. ANGELA'S MAKEOVER PART ONE! ANGELA SAYS I was always very nervous about having Botox or any kind of treatment to my face or even body for that matter until I met France's furlong of perfect skin. I've never been a girlie girl and lots of my friends were always put off by anything that involved needles, chemicals or intensive regular treatments. I never thought I had a problem, but there were a couple of things that I would have liked to improve, but then I guess I'm like most people naturally. I was always big on laughter and always liked to smile for the camera on nights out, but the more I looked through my photo collection the more I realised there was just one tiny little thing that needed adjusting, my gummy smile! When I smiled my dad would say to me “ the last time I saw a set of teeth like that it won the derby!” Meaning he could overly see my gums when I smiled. When meeting Frances she firstly made me complete a comprehensive medical history form. She then explained to me how Botox could help with this problem. To her horror I said no, however France's explained how it worked, how we would take the treatment slowly over a few weeks, and how it would feel and the results that could be achieved. I immediately felt Reassured. You hear stories of women having frozen faces and looking terrible after treatments, but France's carefully explained the mechanics of the treatment. I was amazed the treatment didn’t hurt and the results are fabulous and I would highly recommend anyone to France's. Talk to perfect skin and you will get an honest and frank opinion and see how you feel. I am feeling much better about my smile as you can see from my photos it has really helped my problem. I am so happy I have now trusted France's to help me with my skin and advise on the right products to use. Watch this space as I will be reporting on this too, perfect skin, well the results are just perfect. FRANCE'S SAYS When I first met Angela, I thought what a bubbly and fun character, little did I know how her gummy smile made her feel, when she explained the problem and after a careful assessment I knew that muscle relaxing Injections would benefit Angela. I think the public’s perception on these types of treatments are not always good. Celebrities who have gone too far normally put clients off. I take a natural approach and help clients achieve the perfect facial balance for them, looking the best you can for you is the right approach to facial aesthetics. e mouth, chin, lip and jawline are all areas that clients can feel unhappy with and re-defining the lip outline only can make the lips look more youthful without looking trout like!! Smoothing out the chin and sides of the mouth can give a more lifted profile and better shape to a face. Using filler along the jawline can help lift jowls, also muscle relaxing injections can help. Lip lifting, lift the corners of the mouth can help tighten the jaw line and neck. Knowing why something is happening to the area on the face is the key to choosing the right treatment. I am now helping Angela through her perfect skin journey too so look out for the next issue to find out more... 48 OCTOBER2012

ONE STOP SHOP FOR BACK PAIN

C

higwell Osteopathy and Physiotherapy Practice is part of the Spine Plus chain of clinics co-founded by practice principal Robert Shanks. Spine Plus offer a complete range of back pain services fit for the 21st century ranging from the latest therapy innovations to referral for MRI scans and (where appropriate) referral to a network of highly skilled spinal surgeons and pain consultants.

MRI SCANS MRI scans use magnets to create images of the inside of the body. When assessing the spine this can prove invaluable since unlike x-rays which only show the bones, MRI scans can reveal damaged discs and joints, damaged inflammed bone, pinched nerves and deconditioned deep spinal muscles. Not all MRI scanners produce images of the same quality, just as high resolution digital cameras produce higher quality images the same is true for MRI scans. Most MRI scans in the UK currently are "1.5T", however some centres offer 3T scanning at twice the resolution, this can offer valuable information for certain patients. Chigwell Osteopathy and Physiotherapy Practice refer to centres in the London area offering MRI scans ranging from £275 ( for 1.5T) to £550 (for 3T).

OSTEOPATHY & PHYSIOTHERAPY e Osteopaths and physiotherapists at e Chigwell practice use highly skilled hands on palpation and mobilisation techniques to treat the joints and muscle of the spine. ere are subtle differences in the way osteopaths and physios are trained, however at Chigwell Osteopathy and Physiotherapy Practice all the therapists work as part of a clinical team so that patients get the best of both worlds.

THERAFLEX BIONIC HAND MANIPULATOR e "eraflex bionic hand" is a hand held device that has four points of contact on the spine, having the effect of giving the therapist an extra pair of hands. e device produces gentle, precisely controlled multidirectional forces between adjacent vertebrae which help mobilise and realign the spine with over 125% the efficiency of the human hand. is produces quicker results than can be achieved by hands only mobilisation / manipulation. Sessions are charged at £50 per session.

IDD COMPUTERISED SPINAL DECOMPRESSION THERAPY IDD erapy is one of the latest treatments to hit the UK from Amercica. Chigwell Osteopathy and Physiotherapy Practice is one of a handful of clinics in the UK equipped with an IDD machine. e machine which is mostly used on patients with sciatica or trapped nerves in the neck and low back, uses precise angles and pulling forces, controlled by a computer, to precisely and gently stretch specific segments of the spine, a process known as distraction. is takes pressure off damaged spinal discs and nerves encouraging reduction in disc bulging and promoting healing. At the Chigwell Practice IDD erapy is available at £66.50 per one hour session. Spine Plus have also recently installed a second machine at a private hospital near Harley Street (e BMI Fitzroy Square hospital). However it is easy to get swept along performing incorrect, sometimes harmful technique during a class setting. Chigwell Osteopathy and physiotherapy practice offer one to one (modified) Pilates sessions, specifically designed for back pain sufferers, from highly skilled instructors most of whom are osteopaths and physios who have undergone training with the renowned Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute (APPI). Sessions at charged at £60 - £65 per hour.

CHANGING LIVES TREATING A GUMMY SMILE

T

his interesting case was completed recently by myself. e patient is actually my manager at Smile Design By Ash – Cheryl. Cheryl had been conscious of her smile for a long time. She was unhappy with the fact that she had small teeth and an excessive amount of gums were showing when she smiled fully. Cheryl also had what is referred to as a narrow smile. is means that there was less support for the lips at the side of the mouth. Cheryl’s desire was to have a fuller smile, with ideal sized teeth to suit her face. She also wanted a whiter smile, but also a natural appearance. So, we knew exactly what was required, and the journey began!

CHERYL BEFORE

GUMMY SMILE

e first step was to assess the mouth thoroughly. A detailed analysis was done

52 OCTOBER2012

including Smile Analysis, impressions to make replica models of the teeth, and also taking of appropriate X-rays. I then had a thorough consultation with Cheryl so that I could review all her treatment options (including doing nothing), and the pros and cons of each treatment plan. After careful consideration, we decided to carry out a Smile Makeover for Cheryl. is included the following treatment: 1. Laser gum lift to make the smile appear less gummy and also make the teeth appear larger 2. Lower teeth whitening with ZOOM, the Number 1 whitening system in the world 3. Ten upper porcelain veneers PORCELAIN VENEERS Porcelain veneers are thin facings of porcelain custom made in the dental laboratory. Once bonded to natural teeth, the veneers are strong and long lasting. e treatment begins by doing a diagnostic mock up. is involves using white filling material to artistically sculpt onto the teeth to simulate how a smile might look. is is invaluable as the patient gets an excellent preview of how the final result will be. e laboratory technician then makes wax ups which are a blueprint of the final smile.

CHERYL LOOKING AMAZING

Cheryl actually had all her treatment without any local anaesthetic injections! e reason for this is that her teeth had to be built out, which meant that the outer surfaces of the enamel had to be simply roughened slightly. Accurate records were taken, and a “trial smile” was created. is is when beautiful temporary veneers are fitted to the patient’s teeth so that the patient has an even better idea of how the final smile will look. Cheryl met my ceramist technician to match up the colours of the new porcelain veneers. ese were intricately and artistically made by the technician. After a few weeks, the porcelain veneers were fitted. Cheryl was really delighted with the end result. To reduce the gumminess of her smile even further, Cheryl met Frances Furlong (a Facial Aesthetics and Skin expert). She had selective use of Botox above her upper lip to give her the ultimate smile. Cheryl has

also had dermabrasion and a facial peel by Frances. e AFTER photo shows the increased confidence that Cheryl has following her Smile Makeover treatment. She has excellent oral hygiene and flosses her teeth to keep them healthy. If you are concerned about your smile (no matter what cosmetic concerns you have), then feel free to contact our Practice on 020 85000544, or email us a picture if possible (our email address is care@smiledesignbyash.co.uk). SHADES OF GREY Fifty Shades Of Grey is a best-seller with its tale of seduction, and just as irresistible is the trend for shades of grey in interiors. Gabrielle Fagan explores the sophisticated power of grey and how it transforms rooms. Grey is so sexy and sophisticated - not the masterful hero of the bestselling novel, but the decor colour. Once an overlooked ‘wallflower’ section on the colour chart, grey has shed it’s cold, institutional image, and is proving it’s power to transform any setting. Flirting with its subtle, versatile tones, from crisp charcoal and French grey to shimmering silver and mysterious smoke-grey could be just the way to turn up the heat at home. “Grey is a surprisingly calming and harmonious colour to live with, but you must choose the right tone,” advises Mark Upstone, head of global visual display at The Conran Shop. “Greys with more brown in the mix will feel warm white based greys will feel colder. “Be bold. Don’t restrict yourself to a feature wall, grey looks better en masse, and use different finishes of the same tone to create intriguing interest and depth. “Give grey a starring role by using it on walls and paintwork, he suggests, and a matching gloss paint finish for woodwork. If that feels too overpowering, tone it down with pastels, white or a zingy kick of sharp citrus, which will ensure it has less of a masculine edge. Grey is full of surprises and won’t fail to seduce any setting, so follow the guide 54

to taking advantage of its charms. Face the wall If you’re committing to a new relationship with this colour, the best place to start is with the walls. To find the one grey you love - experiment! Try colours in different tones by using sample pots, but ensure you see how they change with the light in your home throughout the day. It also works well to simply paint one wall in your chosen grey and use it as a backdrop to a focus piece of furniture such as a striking sofa or piece of furniture.

Furnishing affair Texture, shape and symmetry are vital ingredients for successful grey sanctuaries. This season, splashes of colour are an antidote to our winter gloom and almost anything goes with greys. Pinks always sit well, or you could be a little adventurous and choose a vibrant raspberry, deep purple or burnt orange and soft yellows for a lovely contrast. Grey works in modern and older properties, and will look as beautiful in a minimalist setting matched with sleek white shelving as it will with period wood panelling and mahogany furniture.” Seductive setting Transform a bedroom palette with greys in decor or silky fabrics to bring an air of relaxation to an uptight setting. Hang drapery panels which puddle on the floor to frame your windows with a layer of textured sheers behind them for the ultimate in privacy. Grey tones in fabrics and wallpapers create a glamorous and striking effect, especially paired with pattern and texture. It’s a chic, streamlined look which also taps into the five-star ‘hotel’ trend which will be very evident in interiors this autumn. If passion for the look is running high, dress a bed appropriately in shades of grey bedlinen. Simple luxury touches are essential such as rugs and lighting.

MAKE A

FEATURE OF IT If you’re thinking about changing your décor, and want something striking, then a feature wall is definitely worth considering. feature wall is a great way to experiment with colour and bold pattern and is a simple way to make a room look sophisticated, stylish and chic. A feature wall can add interest, style and energy to your room. As a basic rule, choose a wall that’s as plain as possible, without doors or windows. Interior designer Joanna Wood says it’s important you don’t just think of walls, either. “A chimney breast or alcove both make great features,” she says.

A

And, says Joanna, as you’re going to be drawing attention to your chosen wall, think hard about whether it’s worth showing off. “Does it have beautiful architectural elements or will you be highlighting a piece of furniture that you really love,” she says. Placing your bed against a feature wall makes for an unusual and striking bed head, for example. Paint the wall in a bold colour (strong and sexy shades such as plum and sapphire can work well) or for a more sophisticated and glam touch, cover you wall in a material like velvet or silk. For a subtle effect, choose a complementary shade to that of the 56

rest of the room; a darker or lighter intensity of the same colour as the other three walls can really work well. If you’re into a bit more drama then pick contrasting colours - those that sit opposite each other on the colour wheel (a warm brown with duck egg blue for example). Don’t just think of paint and wallpaper when creating a feature wall. “You can use a huge variety of materials,” says Joanna. “Materials like suede, silk or wood add texture and interest. And if you have a dark room or corridor, mirrors or metallic reflective wallpapers, which are very on trend right now, are a great choice. They feel opulent and also bounce and reflect light around the space.” Advances in digital printing mean you can now have a huge variety of photographic images blown up to wall size, if you are looking for something different. Or go 3D: a collection of objects can make a striking wall feature. Hang framed photos across an entire wall or make a feature of your album collection. Feature walls are a simple but striking way to update your room. Choose the right wall and be bold with colour and you’ll soon have a room that hits all the right notes.

HOUSE GARDEN

O

ver the years – five to be precise – I’ve written about the Olympia Fine Art and Antiques Fairs, the now deceased Grosvenor House Antiques Fair and more recently the newly formed Masterpiece, which is exactly that, and it has occurred to me that not many people know these are just the very tip of an enormous mountain of antiques fairs held throughout the UK seemingly every day of the week. ey are as varied in style and size as the merchandise on show. One of the largest in Europe is held annually at Newark, with 2,500 stallholders and covering 84 acres. is is organised by IACF – International Antique and Collectors Fairs – and is one of twenty eight similar events they hold throughout the country drawing 100,000 visitors and engaging over 10,000 dealers. en there are the several fairs organised by national and regional trade associations such as the BADA – British Antique Dealers’ Association and LAPADA – London and Provincial Antique Dealers’ Association. ese fairs usually run for a week and are held in elaborately constructed marquees on the grandest of scales. On the other hand there are the vast majority of one-day fairs, held in hired village halls or hotel banqueting suites and usually individually run by a single person or small company. To my mind these are certainly the most enjoyable if you are looking for a fascinating day out rather than an academic or commercial event. Some of these have been going for many years, indeed one of my favourites is the Bushey Antiques fair which recently celebrated its 30th anniversary.

58

OCTOBER2012

John Bly

It’s run by David Maggs of Yewtree Antiques and has over 100 tables showing a wide range of merchandise. ere are up to four halls in total, comprising a flea market in three halls and antiques and collectors fair in the other. Well worth a visit, usually on the fourth Sunday in every month. Also on my list is the Midas Quality Antiques Fair held every second Sunday in the month at the Bell House Hotel in Beaconsfield. is is another old-established event now run by Terry Leigh and his brother with around sixty dealers and it can attract up to 1000 visitors, even on a ‘bad weather’ day. So successful have they been recently that they have fixed a new venture by holding a Midas Fair in the grounds of Woburn Abbey on the 26th and 27th January 2013. To my mind the best thing about these small individual fairs is the extraordinary range of goods, from some ancient brain surgeon’s drills and spatulas to Georgian door knobs and Victorian dog collars alongside really good jewellery, paintings and prints, silverware and of course

porcelain. Equally intriguing if not more so is the diversity of character in the dealers themselves. By our very nature we are a pretty off-the-wall lot anyway, but some of these people are amazing. If you’re not interested in their stock they will tell you about themselves. As an example I have got to know one who deals in fine quality jewellery, especially diamond rings, whose other lives include 40 years as a chef in the hotel trade, a butler, a tutor on etiquette in service, a wine and spirit specialist obviously we got on extremely well from this point – and High Steward in Oxford University. Just looking at his stock you can tell this chap knows his onions – in and out of the kitchen. But thirty or forty years in the antiques trade is not that long. e great surge of interest began in the early post-war years (WWII that is) when large numbers of houses were coming onto the market because those who might have inherited them had been killed in the 1st or 2nd World Wars and the resident owners were

to old and infirm to maintain them. ese houses were full of antiques of every description and had to be dispersed somehow. At the same time a large body of able men and a few women came out of four years of active service, and found no work awaiting them. Most therefore became self-employed, setting up and running any sort of business they could; publicans, government surplus agents, scrap metal merchants, demolition men, builders and antiques dealers. e job of the latter was to filter the goods and chattels from these empty houses according to their merit; junk to the junk shop, middle class goods to local antique shops and fine goods to the great galleries and emporia in London, New York and Paris. e buying and selling of these things involved considerable guile and sometimes quite hair-raising escapades. In truth the stories of Lovejoy are nowhere near as chaotic, uproarious and outrageous as real life. Someone of ‘the old school’ has already suggested a fitting title for a true book of the times might well be ‘Bookcases, Blarney, Barmaids and Booze’. In fact my next article could be a trial first chapter. Perhaps not, let’s stick to the present day and take a trip to the next antiques fair close to wherever you are and enjoy the display, the array of goods and the enthusiasm of the dealers as they talk about their stock. ey have bought these things with their own money, using their own knowledge and judgement and I’ll guarantee in five minutes you will learn something, even if you don’t buy n

MOTORS

PURE INDULGENCE THE NEW AUDI RS 5 CABRIOLET

E

ssex Audi customers will shortly have the opportunity to place an order for one of the world’s most appealing high performance cabriolets – the Audi RS 5. is magnificent drop-top supercar will bring the intoxicating RS 5 driving experience to lovers of “sky’s the limit” driving by early 2013. In common with its Coupe stablemate, at the heart of the RS 5 can be found the high-revving, naturally -aspirated 4.2-litre V8 which delivers 450PS at 8,250 rpm and peak torque of 430 Nm at between 4,000 and 6,000 rpm. 62

OCTOBER2012

It will power the Cabriolet from rest to 62mph in a breath-taking 4.9 seconds and on to an electronically limited 155 mph. Permanent quattro all-wheel-drive smooths out power delivery, and is backed by torque vectoring, and the rear sport differential for split-second allocation of torque and exemplary road holding. Yet despite its race-bred performance and handling, this genuine four seater cabriolet is as practical as it is appealing. e lightweight ‘acoustic hood’ of the RS 5 Cabriolet offers a very high degree of sound absorption and at the press of a button opens and

closes fully automatically in 15 seconds and 17 seconds respectively – even when driving at speeds of up to 31mph. And when open, it hardly affects the size of the spacious luggage compartment, requiring only 60 litres of its 380-litre total volume. e split rear seatbacks can be folded down individually, and a through-load facility from the boot to the rear seating area maximises versatility. Styling details include a single frame grille design, sharper and more pronounced bonnet contours, new ‘solid band’ wraparound LED

daytime running lights and LED rear lights, new look front and rear bumpers and 19-inch wheels in a new ’10-spoke’ design. All of which adds up to an immensely appealing and eminently practical supercar with which the fortunate few will be able to indulge themselves from next spring. Supply will be very limited so interested parties should register their interest with their nearest Essex Audi centre without delay. www.Essex-Audi.co.uk ■
