What if your cuppa could do good ?
A major downside to our favourite drink is that most coffee grounds are used only once and then succumb to landfill. Decomposing coffee grounds give off potent Methane gas, which is a primary cause of global warming.
With an ever-increasing coffee-drinking culture, this problem is only set to worsen. So, what if these waste grounds could avoid a trip to landfill and then a wonderful new and meaningful purpose found for them to benefit our planet, wellbeing and our communities?
This was the starting point of Welsh company Grounds For Good/GFG. Founded in 2021 by retired medic and entrepreneur, Dr Rosie Oretti.
GFG has curated a gorgeous, innovative, and sustainable collection of home & lifestyle products. All embrace the beneficial powers of reused coffee grounds and their powerhouse extracts. GFG operates as a social enterprise with a proportion of profits going towards National charities who support homeless individuals and their rehabilitation back into employment.

V&A SECURES DAVID BOWIE’S ARCHIVE FOR THE UK
The V&A has secured the archive of David Bowie for the nation – revealing the creative processes of one of the most pioneering and influential figures in the history of live and recorded music, film, fashion and beyond.
Encompassing more than 80,000 items spanning six decades of the cultural icon’s career, the archive traces Bowie’s creative processes as a musical innovator, cultural icon, and advocate for selfexpression and reinvention from his early career in the 1960s to his death in 2016.
From 2025, the archive will be made available to the public, from fans to school children and researchers, through the creation of The David Bowie Centre for the Study of Performing Arts at V&A East Storehouse, in Stratford’s Queen
Elizabeth Olympic Park. The acquisition and creation of The Centre has been made possible thanks to the David Bowie Estate and a generous donation of £10m from the Blavatnik Family Foundation and Warner Music Group.
The archive features handwritten lyrics, letters, sheet music, original costumes, fashion, photography, film, music videos, set designs, Bowie’s own instruments, album artwork and awards. It also includes more intimate writings, thought processes and unrealised projects, the majority of which have never been seen in public before. Another highlight is a Stylophone – a gift from Marc Bolan in the late 1960’s, used on Bowie’s seminal Space Oddity recording.
Highlights include stage costumes such as Bowie’s breakthrough Ziggy Stardust ensembles designed by Freddie Burretti (1972) and the Union Jack coat designed by Bowie and Alexander McQueen for the Earthling album cover (1997).
The archive also includes handwritten lyrics for songs including Fame (1975), “Heroes” (1977) and Ashes to Ashes (1980), as well as examples of the “cut up” method of writing introduced to Bowie by the writer William Burroughs. Additionally, the archive holds a series of intimate notebooks from every era of Bowie’s life and career.
The archive also includes a photo collage of film stills from The Man Who Fell to Earth (197576), directed by Nicolas Roeg and featuring Bowie, and over 70,000 photographs, prints, negatives, large format transparencies, slides and contact sheets taken by some of the 20th century’s leading photographers from Terry O’Neill to Brian Duffy and Helmut Newton.

7 Reasons Why Year 7 at Oak-Tree Schools
Year 7 at the Oak-Tree Schools offers a tailored educational journey accessible to pupils of all abilities. The intimate class sizes ensure that each student receives more individual attention and personalised feedback, which is particularly important as they move from primary to secondary education.
Here are seven key reasons why Year 7 at the Oak-Tree Schools stands out:
1. Personalised Education:
The Oak-Tree Schools’ Year 7 classes offer a tailored educational experience that ensures pupils of all abilities make the maximum progress. The small class sizes allow for more individual attention and personalised feedback, which is crucial at the start of the secondary education journey.
2. Broad and Balanced Curriculum:
The curriculum in Year 7 is broad and balanced, providing a strong foundation across the key subjects such as English, Mathematics and Science, as well as offering more breadth in subjects such as French, Spanish, Art, Drama, History, Geography, Computer Science and ICT. This variety ensures that pupils can explore their interests and strengths in many areas.
3. Outstanding Pastoral Care:
The Oak-Tree Schools pride themselves on their outstanding pastoral care, ensuring that each pupil is closely supported. The pastoral programme in Year 7 helps pupils adapt to the new challenges of senior education whilst maintaining their well-being and enjoying their learning.
4. High Academic Standards:
The Oak-Tree Schools maintain high academic standards with a focus on achieving excellent outcomes. Year 7 pupils are encouraged to understand their target grades, respond to the daily feedback provided by their teachers and work towards challenging goals with regular assessments to track their progress.
5. Enrichment Opportunities:
Year 7 pupils have access to a wide range of extra-curricular activities that enhance their school experience. These include sports, arts, academic clubs and more, which help develop a well-rounded character and provide opportunities to learn new skills. There are also overseas residential trips available, such as skiing in Italy or visiting the WW1 battlefields in Belgium.
6. Leadership and Development:
Opportunities for personal development and leadership are encouraged from Year 7. Pupils can join the School Council or become House Captains, developing their leadership skills early in their senior education.
7. Seamless transition into Year 7:
Starting a new school can be a daunting step for young children, but at the Oak-Tree Schools we make this transition as smooth as possible. We ensure that every pupil feels part of the family as soon as they join.
We provide ongoing support to help our pupils adjust both academically and socially. This approach not only eases the transition but also sets the stage for a successful and enjoyable educational journey at the Oak-Tree Schools.
Braeside School in Buckhurst Hill, Coopersale Hall School in Epping, Normanhurst School in North Chingford and Oaklands School in Loughton make up the privately owned Oak-Tree Group of Schools.
Contact the schools directly to arrange a personalised tour. Open Mornings will be held in October. For more information visit www.oaktreeschools.co.uk.
The Benefits of Transitioning at 11+
Deciding a primary school for your child is an important decision and for those opting to pursue the independent sector, there are now varying options as to whether to sit your child for 3+, 4+, 7+ or 11+. In some areas, even 5+ and 6+ options are available.
Whilst transitioning early into a ‘through’ school may appear to alleviate the pressure of sitting 11+ examinations, there are a number of reasons why this is not necessarily true. There are also strong arguments to support remaining in a primary school up until the point of 11+ – a familiar environment, pupil knowledge and the potential to flourish. Firstly, remaining in a through primary school provides children with a familiar and consistent environment. This safe and nurturing environment helps children to develop positive connections both with adults in the school and with their peers. It is these connections that develop and change as the child’s character and personality grows. For some children, these connections can be established quickly, whilst for others a longer duration is needed. By providing children with a familiar environment, we are able to encourage pupils to develop these connections at their own pace, whilst also providing a foundation for developing their own academic progress.
Developmentally, certain skillsets do not start to develop until post 7+ and therefore the ages of 7-11 years are still key in gaining an understanding of the areas that a pupil may thrive.
In addition to this, pupils in Years 5 & 6 experience both physical and emotional changes. They are starting to mature and become more independent and socially aware. Year 6 becomes a natural time of change for a child and the 11+ transition, a time at which a potential ‘fresh start’ is both welcomed and needed.
Finally, the aim of all education is to help an individual grow, develop and flourish. With the establishment of strong connections and a deep understanding of the pupils, the support and provision for the individual can also develop. By focusing on the individual development both inside and outside of the classroom with engagement via our 360-degree curriculum, pupils are given opportunities to learn more about how they feel, who they are and where they belong. This in turn encourages them to be a balanced and well-rounded individual, ready to flourish as they embark upon their next academic journey.
By the age of 10/11 years, not only have we, as teachers, gained a deep understanding of each pupil, but the children themselves are also more self-aware and understanding as to what they like and dislike.

PRIVATELY EDUCATED PEOPLE DOMINATE TOP BRITISH JOBS
The study, by the Sutton Trust education charity, shows that virtually every key profession is dominated by privately educated pupils grabbing the senior management/director positions
Their grip on power is most noticeable in the judiciary, where 74 per cent of leading judges (those in the High Court or Court of Appeal) were privately educated.
Figures in the report also show that one in three MPs (32 per cent) was privately educated –as were half the members of the Conservative Cabinet. Even in Jeremy Corbyn’s Shadow Cabinet, 13 per cent of members went to private school. Nationally, the figure is just 7 per cent.
The report, carried out by Dr Philip Kirby, goes on to show that 71 per cent of senior Army officers – two-star generals and above – went to private schools. Only 12 per cent attended comprehensives.
“The higher echelons of journalism are also dominated by the private sector, with 51 per cent educated in independent schools”
In medicine, 61 per cent of doctors were privately educated while 22 per cent went to selective state grammar schools and just 16 per cent to comprehensives. The list goes on – 48 per cent of civil servants were educated privately, 29 per cent went to selective grammar schools and 23 per cent to comprehensives.
The higher echelons of journalism are also dominated by the private sector, with 51 per cent educated in independent schools. And of those chief executives of FTSE 100 companies who were educated in the UK, 34 per cent were privately educated.
Nearly half the top actors – 42 per cent of Bafta Award winners – went to private schools, fuelling criticism that the profession is becoming more elitist.
“Our research shows that your chances of reaching the top in so many areas of British life are so much better if you went to an independent school,” said Sir Peter Lampl, the chairman of the Sutton Trust. “As well as academic achievement, an independent education tends to develop the essential skills such as confidence, articulacy and teamwork, which are vital to career success.

How The Beatles continue to influence fashion trends
We take a look at how the renowned pop band not only changed the landscape of music, but fashion too.
The Beatles entered the Sixties dressed as “teddy boys” and left as mop topped, sharply suited heart-throbs.
After an infamous trip to Hamburg, Germany, the band’s manager, Brian Epstein, decided to dress the band in matching made-to-measure suits.
“These suits, often in dark hues and paired with ties and crisp white shirts, were meticulously crafted to present a unified, polished image,” says Londonbased fashion expert Fausta Urte Geigaite, “this bespoke elegance set them apart, offering a fresh, accessible look that appealed to both the youth and the establishment.”
Although the suits were a way to tidy their appearance, the band themselves were quite mischievous, and in a way The Beatles were the perfect contradiction. Clean cut in their appearance but
rebellious in their nature; the band’s fashion helped appeal to both parents and teens.
As the band grew – so did their styles.
Psychedelia became a pool of inspiration for liberals and free thinkers of the decade. Influenced by fin de siècle Art Nouveau, Victoriana and circus imagery – psychedelia’s diverse sources found a direct parallel with The Beatles’ fashion and musical eclecticism.
The band’s music began to implement heavily effected sounds, Eastern intervals and avant-garde tape looping. Visually, the four grew out their mop haircuts and wore brightly coloured military suits, famously exhibited on the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album cover.
By the mid-Sixties, each band member had developed their own iconic style. John Lennon was known for his minimalist and sometimes unconventional style, which included round wire-rimmed glasses and Nehru jackets.

“John Lennon was known for his minimalist and sometimes unconventional style”
been lost to history. “Their ability to blend sophisticated, tailored outfits with elements of avant-garde ensured their style legacy,” says Geigaite.
In 2024, Sixties fashion has come swinging back, with the revival of quilted print jackets, mod shift dresses, Mary Janes and acidic suits. The returning styles show the enduring legacy that The Beatles helped cultivate with their experimental and eclectic style.
Paul McCartney was more polished and conservative, sticking with the sharp suits of the early Sixties, whilst George Harrison had an eclectic style, playing with traditional Indian prints, silk and denim.
Ringo Starr had a more casual and laid-back approach to fashion, often appearing in simple jackets, trousers and T-shirts. He later became known for his distinctive earring and sunglasses. Most of these iconic elements have not
The band’s influence on fashion remains palpable even today.
From their initial tailored suits inspiring countless reinterpretations in menswear, to the resurgence of Western boots echoing the Cuban heel worn by the band members, later being dubbed ‘the Beatle boot’.
“Designers often reference the eclectic and bold aesthetic of their later years in collections that celebrate individuality and breaking the norms,” says Geigaite.
“In essence, The Beatles taught us that fashion, much like music, is a platform for personal expression and cultural dialogue.”
Dyson’s Airwrapnew i.d. allows you to design custom curls on phoneyour
DLara Owen
yson’s Airwrap is known for being one of the most-loved hair tools in the industry – and the appliance company has just launched its latest version.
The Dyson Airwrap i.d. is the first hair tool that can programme custom curls, with just the push of a button. Curls are designed on your phone and transmitted through Bluetooth wireless technology straight to the styler.
The i.d. curl means you can personalise your curling sequence by inputting your hair profile on the MyDyson app, listing your hair type, length and skill level. A curated series is then recommended for your bespoke curling routine.
One button then activates the i.d.’s three-step curling routine for crisp and consistent waves. This new innovation makes curling hair foolproof for anyone and everyone – meaning there are no longer any excuses for frizz and flyaways.
The tool doesn’t bypass hair health either – the heat and airflow levels are intuitively controlled based on the styling preferences you input to the app – so you have full control over the intensity on your hair. With barrels and attachments to suit every style – the bespoke versatility of this tool means it’s the most personal styler on the market.
Alongside the Airwrap i.d., Dyson are also releasing styling formulas – a first for the brand, stepping into product beyond tech.
Dyson Chitosan is the name of the brand’s first wet line of styling products, which includes prestyle creams and post-style serums for priming and
defining.
Chitosan is a macromolecule derived from oyster mushrooms and is often used in medicine for healing wounds, as it adheres to wet tissue and promotes new tissue growth.
When it comes to hair, this means chitosan locks in the hair’s moisture, thanks to its film-forming ability, and promotes collagen production, giving structure to the hair by helping to rebuild damaged or thinning strands.
What’s unique about these products is –unsurprisingly for Dyson – the engineering of their bottles. The applicator is designed to deliver the perfect amount of product – exactly 0.22ml – pump after pump, meaning there’s no wastage or overuse. The bottles take the guesswork out of styling – meaning your hair will never be weighed down or lose shape prematurely.

HOW TO STAY HEALTHY FOR BACK-TO-SCHOOL
7 expert tips to help beat the bugs!
As we return to our busy back-toschool routines, it’s important to prepare ourselves for whatever the new school year brings. This also means being mindful of those dreaded back-toschool bugs which are highly likely to re-emerge, their presence just as unwelcome as it is inevitable. Luckily, there are plenty of things parents can do to take preventative action and help ensure the whole family stays resilient and healthy for school. Here, Dr Jenna Macciochi (PhD immunologist and mum of two) has prepared a list of her top tips on maintaining immune health, to help break what can often feel like the never-ending ‘spiralling cycle’ of back-to-school bugs.
EXPERT IMMUNOLOGIST TIPS:
1.Prioritise prevention: Immunity starts with prevention. Practicing good hygiene habits helps minimise the risk of falling poorly. Encourage children to regularly wash their hands, sneeze/ cough into their elbow or cover their nose with a tissue to help reduce exposure to germs.
2.Eat the rainbow: Embrace a diet rich in fruits, vegetables with plenty of plant fibre, healthy fats and protein which provide your family’s immune system with essential nutrients.
3.Stay hydrated: Proper hydration is vital for
overall health. It helps keep airways properly lubricated with the right amount and consistency of mucus to prevent infection, which is particularly important as our children start playing sports and games again during term-time.
4.Supplement smartly: Incorporate Sambucol supplements into your family’s daily routine to fortify your immune system. It’s backed by scientific research and naturally rich in antioxidants from the black elderberries, as well as essential nutrients like vitamin C and zinc to help safeguard your immunity. And kids love it because it tastes great!
5.Movement: Incorporate physical activity into your family routine, as it can enhance your immune system’s efficiency. Even moderate exercise, such as walking or cycling to school, can boost your body’s natural defences and offer the opportunity for fresh air.
6.Restful sleep: Ensure you and your children get sufficient sleep each night, as rest is crucial for a strong immune system. Prioritise a consistent sleep schedule and pause screen related activities at least one hour before bedtime.
7.Stay home when unwell: If the inevitable does happen and your children do fall unwell, be considerate of others and ensure your child is kept off school to avoid spreading germs. Use Sambucol to help prepare to return to the classroom.
“As a family we take Sambucol supplements, packed with black elderberry antioxidants and key immune supporting nutrients such as *vitamin C and zinc. The liquid and gummy formats are our favourite!”
–Dr Jenna Macciochi
The Sambucol range (RRPs from £6.49) is available from Boots, Holland & Barrett, Tesco and Sainsbury’s. For more information on Sambucol, the †UK’s No.1 brand for immunity visit sambucol.co.uk

A Touch of Glass
As we move further into 2024, glass remains a pivotal material in interior design, celebrated for its delicate nature and timeless appeal. Brands like Brokis, Gallotti & Radice, Fiam Italia, and Glas Italia are leading the charge, each offering distinct interpretations that range from minimalist to avant-garde. Whether through the sculptural forms of dining tables, the low-lines of coffee tables, or the poetic luminosity of lighting, these brands are showcasing that glass as a material is the crystal clear-choice for contemporary living spaces. Glass is here to stay, and it is more innovative and elegant than ever. Enjoy this transparent list of the greatest in Glass and where to start building with one of natures most delicate materials.
DINING TABLES:
Gallotti & Radice perfects the art of large-scale minimalism with their dining tables utilising clean, sleek lines. The use of clear and smoked glass in the Platium table creates a sophisticated, almost ethereal appearance. The combination of glass with metal accents, particularly in gold or brass finishes, adds warm classic luxury to the otherwise modern designs. If you’re looking to go a step further and Fiam Italia’s Ragno dining table is a veritable masterpiece of glasswork. Almost as if it were carved from a singular block of marble and the table was found within.
COFFEE TABLES:
Glas Italia’s coffee tables are a celebration of playful geometry, featuring bold shapes and unexpected angles. This year, the focus is on transparency and colour contrast, with many designs incorporating clear and tinted glass in striking combinations. This is emphasised perfectly in the Shimmer coffee table. Alternatively, Fiam Italia continues to explore organic, flowing shapes in their coffee tables, which are often inspired by natural elements. The brand’s use of curved glass creates soft, uniquely stunning forms that add a sense of movement to living spaces. The Atlas coffee table is a prime example of this with a singular linear curve running through the surface that smoothens your space.
LIGHTING:
Brokis remains at the forefront of lighting design with their poetic, hand-blown glass lights that blend artisanal craftsmanship with the efficiency of modern technology. Their lighting collections focus on organic shapes and natural materials. There is a noticeable trend toward using opal glass, which diffuses light softly, creating a warm, inviting ambiance with pieces such as the Geomteric collection, that utilises beautiful shapes and unique patterns to match the inviting glow of the light itself. While they traditional work with glass, they recently have begun the integration of wood with
their pieces to further display their ability mix the delicate and the durable, this can be seen in the new wooden version of their flagship “Muffins Lamp” a beautiful collaboration between two materials synonymous with luxury interiors.
If you would like to see one of the largest collections of Brokis in the UK then a quick visit to second floor of the Chaplins Furniture showroom in Northwest London would prove to be an enlightening experience. From the latest luminary solutions to stalwarts of the Brokis catalogue that provided them a platform to build their prestige in the glasswork world. You’re likely to see some stunning pieces from the other brands mentioned in this article along the way with 180+ iconic and innovative brands available. chaplins.co.uk
House of Interiors
As the Lead Designer and CEO of House of Interiors, I have had the privilege of transforming numerous spaces into beautiful, functional homes that reflect the unique personalities of their owners. Interior design is more than just selecting colours, furniture, and fabrics; it’s about creating an environment that promotes well-being, efficiency, and happiness.
Interior designers excel at understanding and bringing your vision to life. While homeowners often have ideas, they may struggle to articulate them. A designer can ask the right questions, listen to your needs, and develop a cohesive plan that balances aesthetics with functionality. Whether it’s optimising storage in a small kitchen or creating a serene bedroom, designers tailor spaces to your specific requirements.
One significant advantage of hiring an interior designer is access to a network of trusted contractors and craftsmen. This network ensures quality workmanship and reliable service, essential for sourcing unique materials or hiring skilled tradespeople. Designers also possess a trained eye for detail and deep knowledge of design principles, ensuring your space is harmonious and balanced.
An interior designer saves you time and helps avoid costly mistakes. Managing a home renovation or redesign can be overwhelming, but a designer handles logistics, freeing you from the details. They guide you through decisions, preventing errors like choosing the wrong paint colour or buying furniture that doesn’t fit. This
ensures your investment is well spent and the outcome meets your expectations.
Moreover, professional interior design can boost your property’s value. A well-designed home not only attracts buyers but also commands a higher price. Designers understand trends and timeless principles, ensuring your home remains appealing for years. Even small updates can significantly impact your home’s overall value.
Ultimately, hiring an interior designer allows you to create a unique, personalised space that reflects your lifestyle and preferences. At House of Interiors, we are dedicated to helping you achieve a home that inspires, comforts, and delights. Your home is a reflection of who you are—let us help you make it the best it can be.

Created by award-winning housebuilder The Hill Group, the development is set within easy walking distance of Finchingfield village green and provides the tranquillity of country living without forgoing modern comforts. A selection of homes is now ready to move into, offering views across open green space.
Finchingfield is an ideal location for those seeking a special place to call home. The village is rich in history, featuring traditional architecture that captures the essence of quintessential English countryside living. At the heart of the village lies The Fox On The Green, a beloved local pub that embodies the warm, welcoming spirit of the community. With its inviting atmosphere, it’s the perfect place to gather with friends and neighbours over delicious food and drink.
New resident of Eden Green, Alison Anderson, has been enjoying the lively sense of community found here. She comments: “We’ve always been local, but there’s something so appealing about
living in Finchingfield. It has the benefits of village living, being so peaceful, but has many facilities and so much to offer to the community. The surroundings of Eden Green are truly beautiful, with well-spaced houses that offer each resident privacy and their own little slice of paradise.
“I’ve moved from an older property to a new build home, and I absolutely love it. As I have downsized, this property requires less maintenance, but I still have so much space for when my children and grandchildren come to visit. Our new house is perfect for family – it comprises three bedrooms and the open-plan layout is social and allows light into the space.
“We’ve been so impressed with the excellent customer service from Hill – they have been so helpful and supportive. I would recommend Hill to all my family and friends.”

CREATE THE PERFECT RUSTIC MODERN LIVING ROOM
With Expert Tips from Claire Garner Interiors
The Rustic Modern living room is all about creating a space that feels lived-in, welcoming, and connected to nature. With warming neutrals, layered textures, and a harmonious mix of rustic and modern elements, this design offers the ideal blend of comfort and sophistication.
Claire Garner, Director at Claire Garner Interiors, shares her insights on achieving this warm, inviting and stylish look in your home.
Layered Shades and Laundered Linens for a Relaxed Atmosphere
“The key to a successful rustic, modern living room is balance,” Claire advices. “You want to create a space that feels cosy and comforting, yet remains light and uplifting. A hallmark of this design is the use of layered shades and laundered linens to build depth and texture. “Start with a neutral base in soft greys, taupes, or beiges,” Claire suggests. “These shades provide a calming backdrop, allowing you to layer in deeper, more earthy tones like warm browns, muted greens, and washed terracottas.”
“Laundered linens, with their relaxed and slightly worn-in appearance, add a touch of softness to the space. Whether through cushions, throws, or curtains, these textiles contribute to the room’s overall comfort while enhancing its rustic appeal.” Claire adds.
Incorporating Warming Woods and Rustic Elements
Warming woods play a crucial role in adding depth and richness to a living room. “Start by incorporating natural materials such as wood, rattan, and linen to create a sense of authenticity
and rustic charm,” says Claire. “These elements are essential in grounding your space, giving it a timeless, organic feel.”
Rustic elements, such as raw metals, reclaimed wood, and vintage finds, introduce character and history to the room. Claire recommends mixing these materials with modern, sleek finishes to create a balanced, eclectic look. “Combining contrasting textures, such as a rough-hewn wooden side table with a sleek metal lamp, adds visual interest and prevents the space from feeling onedimensional.”
Bringing Nature Indoors with Organic Shapes and Textures
Organic living rooms come to life with the thoughtful inclusion of natural elements and textures. “Incorporating organic-shaped furniture, like curved side tables and rounded sofas, softens the room’s edges, making the space feel more inviting and relaxed,” says Claire. “These forms, inspired by nature, establish a sense of harmony and calm throughout the room.”
Claire also highlights the importance of bespoke furnishings to achieve a truly customised, polished look. “I love designing large upholstered linen ottomans that are perfectly tailored to the space,” she explains. “These pieces not only add a touch of softness but also serve multiple purposes, functioning as a coffee table and providing additional seating. It’s a seamless way to enhance both the style and functionality of the room.”
Natural textiles, such as rattan, linen, and jute, further elevate the room’s authenticity and rustic charm. Claire also encourages incorporating elements of nature. “I love using plants in the home. Adding fresh greenery and olive trees in the living room connects the space to the outdoors, creating a calming atmosphere,” Claire shares.
Finishing Touches
“To enhance the ambiance of the living room, consider using soft, textured fabrics for upholstery,
throws, and cushions.” Claire suggests. “Next, embrace earthy colour palettes inspired by nature to ground the space, and complete the look with vintage finds like antique lamps and woven baskets.” Claire continues, “These pieces add character and personality, while rustic artwork brings the beauty of the outdoors inside. The result is a living room that feels both grounded and uplifting, perfectly blending rustic charm with modern comfort.”

BRING THE OUTSIDE IN During the Autumn Months
Warm colours such as russet reds and pumpkin orange along with mossy green and soft browns have long been synonymous with the autumn season. ILIV’s nature-inspired designs in colours that reflect those found in nature at that time of year offers the perfect way to bring the outside in during the autumnal months.
LAYERING FOR A WARM AND COSY FEEL
Debbie Leigh, Design Manager at ILIV advises, “One of the quickest ways to bring in that warm and cosy feeling we all long for during the cooler months, is to add layers of soft furnishings to our homes, such as throws, cushions and curtains. From cosy living rooms to snuggly bedrooms, cleverly layered textiles not only create a cohesive look but help to create a feeling of warmth.
“Soft furnishing have a significant impact on the overall feel of a room. Layer plains and patterns carefully; when using bold patterns on upholstery it is best to keep the cushions plain or go for a plain fabric for the upholstery and experiment with a mixture of colours and patterns on scatter cushions”, continues Debbie.
CHOOSING CURTAINS
Debbie advises, “For a subtle look, pick a fabric for your curtains that is slightly lighter or darker than your wall tone. If you prefer a contrasting colour, choose an accent colour from in the room, drawing a shade from a cushion or throw for example. Another great tip is to hang thermal lined curtains; good quality, lined curtains are worth the investment. They are suitable all-year-round offering temperature control and privacy and their ability to help keep the cold air from seeping into the home makes them particularly useful during the autumn and winter months. Blackout and thermal linings are also great for bedroom curtains as they help to keep the room warm, increase energy efficiency and block out unwanted light promoting a good night’s sleep.” iliv.co.uk

Equity release allows you to access the value held up in your home and turn it into money you can spend as you wish. How much equity you can release depends on your age, how much your property is worth and how much you choose to borrow. People over 55 often have little or no outstanding mortgage and lots of value tied up in their home. Many others have an interest-only mortgage and no way of repaying it. Equity release could help in either of these situations.
• Release cash from your home without moving out;
• Receive your cash as a lump sum, as an income or both;
• Use the money to spend as you wish;
• No need to make monthly repayments;
