equipment out that could be used to gain entry to your home. It is also important to be aware of the latest trends in criminal activity, such as the use of social media to identify potential targets and take steps to protect against these threats.
In recent years, the importance of residential security in London and the home counties has become ever more important, particularly for high-net-worth individuals who are concerned about protecting their families and assets. With the ever-increasing crime rates and a vast increase in targeted, often violent highvalue burglaries and street robberies, it is crucial for homeowners to take proactive steps to enhance their personal and property security.
One of the most effective ways to improve home security is to make your property less appealing to criminals by investing in technical and physical security, such as CCTV, alarms, and lighting. Also, fences, gates, windows, and doors. A 24/7 security guard presence or residential security team is advised should your profile, status, threat and risk require such measures. This is an essential requirement for high-profile business leaders, celebrities, political and royal stock.
In addition to these often-expensive solutions, there are several simple steps that everyone can take to enhance their security. These include making sure you lock doors and gates, close windows when you go out, keep your car keys out of site, and don’t leave ladders or garden

With engagement season in full swing and wedding season on the way, bridal fashion is a hot topic right now, with thousands of brides-to-be saying yes to their dream dress as they prepare to tie the knot.
Or they might be choosing a suit – tailoring is just one of the non-traditional bridalwear trends that style experts predict will be on the rise this year…
The perfect embellishment for walking down the aisle, expect to see oversized bows adorning the back of wedding gowns or ‘second look’ evening dresses. “For me, bows are very fun to play with. I’ve recently seen brides looking for less minimal and more elaborate designs,” says fashion designer Nadine Merabi (nadinemerabi.com). “Bows are a perfect addition to make a gown more feminine and playful, yet still glamorous.”
“Whether they’re walking down the aisle or dancing the night away at the after party, the Little White Dress offers a playful yet timeless elegance which doesn’t falter when it comes to practicality and perfection,” says Heather McReynolds, vice
president and general merchandise manager for bridal, dresses and accessories at David’s Bridal (davidsbridal.com). “As our customers are looking to be more sustainable where they can, shorter dresses also offer a more versatile option which can be reworn over many years, tying sentiment into different events.” From midi-length full

skirts to vintage-style sheaths and flapper dresses, shorter lengths can still be glitzy and elegant. “I’ve seen a lot of girls getting married in mini dresses, putting a modern spin on a more vintage look,” says Merabi. “Many brides are also opting for a second dress for the reception – the shorter hemline trend is perfect for dancing all night with friends and family.”
“We are seeing a return to more classic styles of bridalwear, such as cathedral length veils, full skirts and timeless silhouettes,” says couture bridalwear designer Phillipa Lepley (phillipalepley. com). With the rise in couples wanting outdoor ceremonies, there will also be more top layers and removal sleeves for functionality.” While Nineties minimalism may be ruling the catwalks, Eighties maximalism is making waves in the bridalwear world. “This is a trend we’ve seen waltz back time and time again, which we’ll gleefully welcome back every year,” says McReynolds. “This for our brides who are set to make jaws drop and eyes well up as they strut the gloomy winter season away in their spring wedding.”
From Bianca Jagger’s iconic 1971 wedding suit to Emily Ratajkowski’s mustard two-piece, a tailored piece is the way to go for the bride who likes to do things differently. “For me, a wedding suit means a celebration of the fact that every bride is different, and proof that a power suit can be as stunning as a wedding dress,” says Merabi. She loves the “sophisticated coolness” and versatility of bridal tailoring: “It has also been amazing to see the many different styles that can come out of a suit.”
“Strictly white wedding dresses are not for everyone, and we have started to see brides swaying away from
this tradition,” says Lepley. “We will see a rise in brides selecting more colourful dresses, particularly elegant, soft shades of pink and coloured floral embroidery in soft tulle overlays that look equally stunning and sophisticated down the aisle.” Going one step further, brides like Selling Sunset star Christine Quinn are making a case for the ultimate non-traditional bridal colour.
“We’re seeing that black wedding dresses aren’t just for the alternative bride anymore, with this trend continuing to dominate on social media,” says McReynolds. “Brides are experimenting with their wedding day looks more than ever before, with showstopping black dresses and vivid pops of

Julien Macdonald returned to the London Fashion Week schedule after a three-year hiatus with a celebrity-packed show.
Amanda Holden and her 17-year-old lookalike daughter Lexi were on the front row as the collaboration with Mexican designer Gabriela Gonzalez was unveiled.
Gemma Collins, Despacito singer Luis Fonsi, Strictly Come Dancing stars Aljaž Škorjanec and Janette Manrara, and presenter Ashley Roberts, were among the other celebrities in attendance.
While supermodels Winnie Harlow, Leomie Anderson and Cindy Bruna walked the runway.
The Julien X Gabriela AW23 show was held at the ornate Freemasons’ Hall, central London – the ideal backdrop for a typically glitzy collection.
British model Anderson opened the show in a black sequinned bodysuit with cut out details and exaggerated shoulders – to Sam Smith and Kim Petras’ hit Unholy.
Gothic glamour featured heavily in a collection full of the Welsh designer’s signatures.
It included bodycon silhouettes, bejewelled minidresses, metallic gowns, mesh catsuits and masses of sequins.
There were several draped minidresses reminiscent of the silver one that Macdonald famously created for Paris Hilton’s 21st birthday party.
The London Fashion Week veteran is a go-to designer for red carpets, and his ultra-glamorous dresses have recently been worn by Gisele Bundchen and Bella Hadid.
The 51-year-old has also dressed music icons like Beyonce, Kylie Minogue and Jennifer Lopez. The show was soundtracked by a series of club bangers, including Beyonce’s Break My Soul and the TikTok-famous White Lotus theme tune, Renaissance. Bruna’s strutting in a white feathered minidresses elicited cheers from the audience, as did Harlow’s appearance in a black bodysuit and flowing cape with feather collar.
Harlow closed the show, taking a final turn to Chaka Khan’s I’m Every Woman. Macdonald and Gonzalez joined the trio of top models to take a bow as silver confetti rained down –marking a triumphant return to the London catwalks.

As we begin the transition from autumn/winter to spring/summer, it’s time to start thinking about how we’ll be accessorising our outfits when sunnier days arrive – and that includes selecting the perfect nail polish shade.
How can you make sure your talons are on trend for SS23? Here, nail techs make their predictions for the colours and designs that will be adorning the most fashionable fingertips this season…
“Milk is the new nude,” says Sam Kendrew, head of education for Mii Cosmetics (miicosmetics. com). “A classic and clean take on the nude nail, milky-toned shades are always effortlessly chic and sophisticated on any skin tone – these hues dominated the catwalk during New York Fashion Week.” Charlotte Knight, nail technician and founder of Ciaté London (ciatelondon.com), agrees: “We’re seeing very natural and milky colours become popular. I like a cool, creamy shade for a natural manicure.”
The classic French manicure (pink base with white tips) has made a major comeback in recent years,
but now the trend is evolving.
“We’re seeing Gen Z lean towards a more ‘out there’ tip which features decals, bright colours and often different textures – such as chrome,” says Knight.
“Use tape to section off your tip and paint on your desired colour, or get some practice in drawing your tip freehand with either the varnish brush or a small detailer brush.
“Alternatively, you can opt for a nail sticker to get you this look – simply seal with a clear coat after applying in your desired area, to ensure it lasts.”
Daisy Trembath, nail technician at St Michaels
Make sure your new season mani is on point, says Katie Wright.PASTEL SWIRL NAIL DESIGNS CREATED BY DAISY TREMBATH CHARLOTTE KNIGHT, FOUNDER AND CEO OF LOTTIE LONDON MAVALA MINI COLOUR NAIL VARNISH CORAL BAY, £6.40, AVAILABLE FROM LOOKFANTASTIC ORLY NAIL POLISH LUXE, £9.99 (WAS £11.75), AVAILABLE FROM ORLY
Resort (spaseekers.com), suggests swapping white tips for bright red. “A coloured tip is a great way to revive your look, just as the sun starts to make its appearance again,” she says. “Start by prepping and filing the nails, before pampering the cuticles ready for polishing. To make this a seamless application, I always take French tip tape for the top half of the nails.”
Feeling artistic? You could try your hand at a painted pastel look. “The pastel swirl design is going to be a big one for the multicoloured fanatics this spring,” says Trembath. “By combining delicate brush techniques with a selection of pastel colours, topped with a glossy top coat, you have a simple spring design that packs a punch.”
“From neon to baby, we will see the colour pink everywhere,” says Kendrew. “Viva Magenta is Pantone’s colour of the year, and with the Barbie film coming out this year, Barbie-esque manicures will be a permanent look.” From palest blush to brightest fuchsia, and neatly filed nails to long acrylics, you can personalise your pink this spring.
When it comes to nail art, cute and kitsch is the way to go – whether you’re doing it yourself or
commissioning your nail tech. “Complete with UV gel cured diamantes, cherry nail art is very in vogue,” says Trembath, who recommends starting with two coats of dusty rose gel polish. “Use a brush tool and a dotting tool to create cherries. For an extra bit of glamour, add on statement gems before curing and securing the finished look.” You’ll also need a dotting tool to recreate her daisy nail art: “This blooming design uses a classic French manicure format by replacing the classic white tips with yellow-centred dots and white petals, giving a delicate yet intricate look to your hands.”
Bring the dopamine dressing trend to your nails with a saturated sunset hue. “Coral is an old favourite we often see on the spring/ summer catwalks, a universal mood-boosting hue guaranteed to brighten the darkest of days,” says Kendrew. “The perfect mixture of pink and orange, it’s a hugely flattering tone that looks particularly stunning when paired with tiffany blue and white.”
Ariana DeBose, Alison Hammond and Lashana Lynch were among the celebrities inspired by sparkles. By Prudence Wade
Celebrities were keen to have a bit of fun on the red carpet, with sparkling metallic looks taking over.
Whether it was subtle sparkles or allout glam, everyone from Viola Davis to Alison Hammond got in on the trend.
Davis wore a custom look by Stella McCartney: a striking purple gown with a cape attached.
On first look, Matilda actor Lashana Lynch’s dove grey outfit by Fendi –with a high neck and long sleeves –seemed quite subdued.
But she added glamour with a sparkling Bulgari serpent necklace dangling down her back and silver jewels studded on her face.
West Side Story’s Ariana DeBose had a muted take on sparkles, in a subtly bejewelled nude outfit by Fendi. It was almost entirely sheer, except for a skincoloured bodysuit underneath.
Nominated for the EE Rising Star Award, Sheila Atim channelled futuristic fashion in her Bafta look.
The silver column dress by Prada had jewelled detailing, and was accessorised with a layered diamond necklace, diamond drop earrings and a lilac buzzcut.
Alison Hammond was hosting the Bafta Studio – an access-all-areas experience – and got glammed up in black sparkles for the event.
Taking on red carpet presenting duties, Vick Hope wore a body fitting KYHA Studios gown in glittering cobalt blue.
Few designers have raided the King’s garden to make their latest fashion collection, but that’s exactly what Vin + Omi have done.
The design duo – who are based in the Cotswolds – met Charles four years ago and immediately bonded over their shared passion for sustainability.
The King invited Vin + Omi to his Highgrove estate, giving them the opportunity to sift through waste from the garden and see what materials they might be able to make from it.
Omi told the PA news agency: “He’s in a society that’s very different from ours and we have very different views, but we have one common interest.
The experimental duo debuted their latest collection ahead of London Fashion Week.
“He’s been very supportive, he really allowed us to take time to study the environment in Highgrove.”
This resulted in a new type of material made from nettles, and the collaboration has continued – with Charles staying in touch with the designers, often sending them packages – like a box of cotton from the Queen Mother’s Scottish estate, The Castle of Mey, to see what they could do with it.
“He’s very happy for us to take anything that is going to waste that he doesn’t use,” Vin said.
“He’s pretty good because he uses most things, he recycles most things – it’s very impressive. It’s not just an act, a lot of people say ‘Oh, I’ll recycle that’ – he does it. He really does. And he does it with a sense of humour as well.
“We run our business with a sense of humour, and he’s got a sense of humour. We resonate with his humour and his eco principles and philosophy.”
Omi added: “We don’t live in that world, so when I say he knows a lot – it’s not me being impressed by the status.
“I’m impressed by his knowledge around the environment and what he does.”
Despite their different backgrounds, Vin said:
“It shows it’s got nothing to do with who you are, it’s about saving the planet, it’s about sustainability.
“We’re polar opposites, [but] in many ways [it] doesn’t matter. It’s about doing things for the right reason.”
For their latest fashion show in London, the designers debuted a new fabric from Charles’ estate.
“It’s a cellulose-based fibre that we’ve used into yarns,” Vin explained.
“So we’ve used his willow saplings that we’ve cut down – that they cut down every year anyway…
“It’s a wood material, it made a wood dress in effect. And we’re also using nettle material as well, in a completely different way.”
Omi described their approach as “punk”, and this is reflected in their anti-London Fashion Week (LFW) attitude.
Despite putting on a fashion show the day before LFW starts, the brand is not on the official schedule.
“Joining London Fashion Week – in terms of showing there with lots of people that are only driven by commerciality, and having to produce a lot of stuff that goes to waste – just didn’t make sense to us,” Vin said.
“So we’ve distanced ourselves from that machine and we do our own thing. We’re here to show ideas, show different ways of working.”
The duo’s brand launched in 2001, and they are concerned about younger designers getting stuck in the cycle – particularly as Vin said the BFC require brands to have six stockists in order to
show on the schedule.
“It’s difficult if you’re young and you’re starting out, and you’ve got to actually fund all of that – you’ve got to fund all those garments to sit in shops, that often don’t sell – they sit there, it’s waste material.”
A spokeswoman from the British Fashion Council (BFC), said in response to this:
“Promoting young designers is an essential component of the BFC’s work.”
Vin said there is a wider mental health crisis among young designers.
He knows of creatives who are “now 40 million in debt, 30 million in debt – what does that do to their mental state? We watch companies and designers get very close to the edge, because the pressure’s enormous.
“You can’t sustain a business in that way, where it’s getting millions and millions poured in, and you have to churn it [collections] out four or five times a year. You’ve only got one brain, it’s very difficult to keep that going.”
“It’s very difficult to support a system that mentally forces people into damaging themselves, or damages the planet in certain ways.”
Vin said a better approach toward the environment will come through education.
“If you can adjust the mental state of the general public into buying a few things, then the fashion industry has got no choice but to scale down and stop being so greedy.”
Omi wants to see an end to greenwashing –the practice of making consumers believe your brand is more environmentally friendly than it might be – because “when you put yourself out there and say, I’m 100% sustainable, the reality is that’s impossible, because the entire system in which we live runs on really mixed sustainable and unsustainable ways of living”.
And sustainable fashion doesn’t have to be joyless.
Vin said: “It sounds all gloom, but you can have beautiful things in your wardrobe, you can have fun things in your wardrobe – just don’t buy so many, just put thought into where they’ve come from.”
“The duo’s brand launched in 2001, and they are concerned about younger designers getting stuck in the cycle”

As a young yet highly experienced firm, Blackberry Build is built on a foundation of outstanding artistry, unparalleled design skills and an ongoing commitment to premium quality.
At a very young age I wondered what my purpose in this life was. I worked various jobs, which I would start with excitement, but as soon as I had mastered them, I would start seeking a new challenge. I craved constant learning and growth and wanted to push myself forward. I could not agree more with the quotes – ‘Never tolerate average’ or ‘Impossible is a state of mind’. I started my career in the construction industry 22 years ago, right at the bottom, as a bricklayer’s labourer and worked my way up. Within five years, I was put in charge of a small crew. The following 12 years took a lot of hard work, courage and effort and were very challenging but successful. From a site supervisor, I became a project director picking up a BA (Hons) degree in Civil Engineering, NVQ Level 7 in Construction Management, Membership of a Chartered Institute of Building and other qualifications.
My main and most enjoyable projects were marketing suites and show apartments for such industry giants as St George and Berkeley Homes.
As these projects were the developer’s flagships and showpieces for the quality of design and workmanship, they had to be completed to an immaculate level, and that is what I enjoyed most! After doing this for almost seven years, I had a huge hunger for a new challenge. I had tons of experience, knowledge, determination, and a massive will to create something unique. This is where Blackberry Build was born. It went through the stages and evolved into a unique project delivery company like no other. Now I’m glad to say that I’m thrilled with what I do as my ‘work’. It’s crazy; I like it so much I don’t even call it a ‘job’. I just enjoy it too much.”

Fitted furniture specialist, Neatsmith, has been designing, manufacturing and installing bespoke wardrobes since 2005. With almost two decades of experience and their designs in thousands of homes, Neatsmith have invaluable expertise and advice to share about what to consider when choosing made-to-measure wardrobes for your home.
Deciding if you would like to create a cosy or a light and bright space, will help narrow down the door style and internal finish options.
If you would like the space to feel warm and welcoming, consider a fabric finish that adds texture and softness to your design. Neatsmith’s newly launched Belgravia style is a beautiful option with fabric panels laid within a lacquered frame bordered by a recessed brass trim.
If you would like to keep things light and airy, including mirror and glass finishes with their light reflecting properties is a great choice. These materials work well with both hinged and sliding doors and come in a wide range of designs to enable you to choose the best one for your room. Last autumn, Neatsmith’s most popular design, their Bronze Reflex Glass with Lux frame, was joined by Natural Reflex Glass with Champagne frame as a new colour option and it instantly became a client favourite.
There are many clever ways to maximise space with your design. Space can often be best utilised by adding double clothes rails to make room for twice the number of jumpers, shirts, and t-shirts and including drawers inside the wardrobe can avoid the need for a separate chest of drawers. Creating a corner wardrobe is also a great way of utilising every inch of floor space and they lend themselves to storing bulky items such as suitcases which would otherwise need to be stored out of easy reach in a loft space.
Truly beautiful wardrobe design is all in the details and with many options to choose from, Neatsmith can recommend the accessories and finishing touches you will use the most. They include recessed LEDs that highlight each section of your wardrobe and can be paired with glass-topped drawers to showcase all your favourite accessories. Shoe shelves are also a musthave to keep your shoes organised, ensuring that they can all be viewed at a glance, making selection clear and a joy.

Discover designs that don’t stay within the lines.
As technology advances, screens dominate and robots seem like a very imminent possibility, our homes are turning their backs on perfectly precision-made modern designer furniture and back to the simplest and most honest of decoration – the irregular and imperfect.
Contemporary furniture, lighting, rugs and accessories have taken a distinct turn for the uneven, a sidestep from the ‘bring the outdoors in’ trend that has ruled over contemporary home design for the past few years. Geometrically precise these forms are not, instead it’s as if they’ve been drawn by the human hand of nature itself. Expect wobbles, variations, and a distinct lack of straight lines.
Subtly backing up the green colouring, natural materials, and plant patterns currently filling our homes come unbalanced organic shapes, forms that could have evolved out in the garden, woodland or sky, or sea. They have a feel of the stumbled upon rather than the industrial, and if manufacture is alluded to at all, the pieces undoubtedly nod to the individually hand-crafted.
There’s no thought of factories. Every piece gives the impression of a one-off, imbued with love and charming inconsistencies.
This all stems from the natural, of course – the smooth, rounded edges, the bucolic influences, the almost accidental forms. But this modern decorating trend is a nature-inspired design that just so happens to be in your home like it’s been growing there for years overlooked or has been recently discovered behind a wall. Welcome to the completely non-obvious, the almost unseen, the would-have-been-there-anyway-even-if-you-hadn’tnoticed-me school of interiors.
It’s not about being noticed. It’s about the feeling. These asymmetric forms soothe the mind, as unthreatening as a plant, rock or pool of water with their shapes that speak of fresh air and freedom. These are shapes that seem formed by time rather than an intentional hand. The eye breezes over them, gently bumping across those smooth curves, while the mind draws them in and exhales them, the lack of angles, corners and straight edges signalling that it’s time to relax. One irregular piece of furniture tones down a room, calming its angles and pacifying it, while a larger collection creates a spa, away-for-the-weekend feel, forming a space that’s dedicated to tranquillity, health and peace.

So, you’ve decided on an indoor swimming pool, however, there are still many decisions to be made along the way. Attention to detail and precise planning are crucial when designing a successful swimming pool and pool house. Luckily, Origin have the answers to all your questions and will be there from concept to completion to give you the pool you’ve been waiting for.
Are you interested in a stand-alone indoor pool house or a pool house extension to your home?
This is the biggest decision you’ll need to make when it comes to your indoor swimming pool as placement and location play a crucial role in the success of a project. There are advantages and disadvantages to both options. You’ll need to think about the main use for the swimming pool, do you want a place to escape away from the home or do you want it attached to your home? Will it play a big part in your daily routine? Do you have a budget you’re working towards?
For a stand-alone pool house, one that is freestanding and complies with the permitted development design criteria, it’s likely you won’t need planning permission. However, a pool house extension to your home will need planning permission. Origin has a wealth of experience in gaining planning approval for indoor pools and they also manage the whole process for you so, no need to panic!
No, Origin does it all. They provide initial design sketches and budgetary proposals free of charge in their feasibility studies. Architects are extremely well-versed in domestic construction details, but unfortunately, an indoor pool is very different. An architect can provide an outline design for an indoor pool but this may be an unnecessary expense as many don’t have the knowledge or insurance needed to take that design further.
The most popular size for an indoor pool is between 8m to 12m as the bigger the pool, the bigger the cost. For avid swimmers, there are some excellent counter current swim devices available making the size of the pool less important. Buying a pool cover is one of the bigger investments you’ll make throughout the process but they’re worth it as an important part of the pool design. They retain heat, reduce running costs and provide a level of safety, making them a necessity rather than an option. When adding different features to your indoor swimming pool, it’s important to remember your original motivation. Did you want to create a place of relaxation?
Your own fitness centre? A social hub for friends and family?
Why Origin?
It’s simple, Origin does it all. Building pools is a specialised field, it’s unlike any other building project and requires a holistic approach with all the key elements working together from the beginning. Origin has all the design and engineering expertise necessary and manages the whole building process for you, from initial concept, planning and design
to completion and beyond, eliminating the need for you to employ separate companies. Access to a pool right on your doorstep means it’s easy to swim every day in the privacy of your own home, either to maintain a healthy lifestyle or simply as a space to relax. Origin has been building award-winning swimming pools for over 40 years and in that time has successfully completed thousands of pools and pool houses to a wide range of specifications. Whether you’re looking for indoor or outdoor, wellness or fun, Origin has experienced it all and is available to help you create your home pool managing every stage from start to finish, giving you the confidence and freedom to enjoy finally swimming in your own home.

Bright, birdsong-filled mornings; sundappled afternoons; and evenings that stretch out beautifully—spring is a wonderful time of year.
It’s only natural, then, that we should want to celebrate it and capture some spring with a new look around the home.
With more than 70 years of experience designing and producing furniture, BoConcept have plenty of tips and tricks when it comes to home design. Here they share some tips on making the inside and outside of your house look its best once spring arrives.
How do I decorate my living room for Spring?
The living room often sets the tone for your whole home, so if you want to invite spring in, there’s no better place to do it.
Giving pride of place to spring flowers like dahlias and hydrangeas—in a stylish vase—will definitely bring the outdoors inside.
If you introduce some brilliantly white furniture, not only will you make the most of the spring light, but those flowers will provide a stunning splash of colour by contrast.
And carefully chosen statement furniture
can do the same. For instance, you might pair a whitewashed bookcase with a soft green or slate blue armchair. What could be better than sitting back with a book on a spring evening? Whatever additions you make to the living room, white and blue are refreshing colours for the spring. They bring to mind the sea and all things nautical, instinctively relaxing us.
How do I decorate my bedroom for Spring?
The sun floods in through your window early in the morning—and, as it sets, the sun leaves a show-stopping blend of hues in the evening. Spring certainly shows bedrooms in their best morning light.
To match nature’s mood outside, you need to make changes inside. It’s time for light colours and materials. Think linen cushions and rounded, carefree forms that verge on the bohemian— nothing too sharp. Of course, rattan furniture is a classic spring look, while lighter, distressed woods also conjure images of spring getaways.
Aside from aesthetics, however, there are practical issues to consider. First and foremost is comfort. Higher temperatures mean that you’ll want lighter, more breathable fabrics and
“To match nature’s mood outside, you need to make changes inside”
throws on your bed, which extends to the sheets underneath. You won’t be needing those thick, knitted blankets and rugs until the heating goes back on in autumn.
Yet you might want to go the opposite way for your curtains: sunlight flooding in at dawn isn’t always great for a good night’s rest. If you’re a light sleeper (no pun intended), blackout curtains are a must. Don’t worry, they’re not all burgundy or grey; you can find them in all kinds of lighter tones.
The flowers are blooming, the weather is fresh, and you can hear wildlife all around—spring really is your garden’s time to come alive.
There are countless excuses to enjoy your garden during the spring. Perhaps you’re having friends over for the first barbecue? You could be indulging in a leisurely weekend breakfast. Or maybe you’re simply taking advantage of the weather to work from home in an outdoor lounge.
And if you can give your outdoor space a sizzling springtime makeover, you might never want to go back indoors. Here’s how to freshen up your garden after winter.
Outdoor furniture serves a whole range of purposes. It might even have to double up as dining furniture and a place to work. After all, many people now find themselves working at the kitchen table, so why not do the same outside?
Whatever you need garden furniture for, lightcoloured dining chairs, tables, and loungers suit spring vibes better. And white looks especially
good in contrast against the deep greens of garden plants, shrubs, and trees.
Don’t worry if your favourite outdoor furniture is a darker shade, though—simply swap it all back around once the cascading leaves of autumn arrive.
• Choose some fresh accessories
If you’re lucky enough to have a large outdoor space, there’s no end to the ways you can bring a springy feel to your garden. One of the most fun ways is with the addition of a beach hutstyle shed, which will be just as practical as it is Instagrammable.
If you’re thinking a little smaller than that, some understated garden lighting can really make a difference, while a firepit will add a rustic feel and keep those long spring nights going—anyone for marshmallows? Or, for a more immediate transformation, how about a new side table and a few well-positioned plant pots?
The coming of spring provides us with a welcome opportunity to change up our decor. Outside, it’s mainly about making the space as comfortable as possible—while sprinkling those whites and light shades about, if you can—so that you’ll be outdoors and taking advantage of the spring as much as possible.
Inside, too, lighter hues are the way to go: for furniture, textiles, and any other additions you might make. And if you’re looking for some further advice, BoConcept St Albans’ free interior design service can guide you on the best ways to turn your home into a place where spring lives.

Looking for a kitchen design that is stylish and practical? These kitchen designs could be the perfect fit.
Darker tones for your interior design is undeniably chic and oozes drama but can also be quite calming. We spoke to leading kitchen design company Urban Myth on why they believe a dramatic scheme should have a place on your list of top kitchen colour ideas.
“You can really make a dramatic kitchen your own” says Peter Hill, Head of Sales for Urban Myth “it can be either contemporary or traditional or even a mix of both depending on how you finish the design, and there are many ways to incorporate this style into your design at a level you feel comfortable with.”
A statement worktop will create an impact in any style of kitchen. For example, choosing a finish with a Black marble effect is timeless and can be paired with many other colours for your kitchen cabinets, walls or floors. If you want your worktop to be the focal point then embrace the art of darkness when planning your next kitchen renovation.
A mix of dark tones and textures is an emerging trend that is set to be a showstopper over the coming year. It is a bold look but when done well the result is stunning. Layering black cupboards, walls and worktop for a sultry look that is full of sophistication. Adding gold or glass elements to your design will add warmth and light to your space.
If metal accents don’t suit your kitchen and you prefer natural finishes, A dark colour scheme looks striking next to wooden cabinetry and accessories. Adding a beautiful textural element to the design and an instant warm welcoming effect.
Black is a neutral shade and coordinates with almost any colour, but if you want to keep your design dark and sophisticated then layering with grey could be the right choice for you.
Not ready to go with all dark kitchen cabinetry then a monochrome style could fit the bill. There are many finishes available where you can incorporate black into your scheme such as black hardware or taps and sinks. You could also have shelving with black frames contrasting brilliantly with white cabinet doors for an elegant nod to this growing trend.
So, if you are renovating this year playing with a palette of darker tones doesn’t have to be scary and the innovative designers at Urban Myth are ready to help you create a look you’ll love, simply make an appointment to view the Urban Myth showroom by calling 0208 531 3413 or visit www.urbanmyth.net for more inspiration.

Woodpecker is a family-run business with a heritage in the timber industry that goes back three generations.
Founded nearly 50 years ago by Bruce Ker, a skilled craftsman who loved teaching people how to work with wood, the Woodpecker tradition is continued today by his son Nelson and grandson Darwyn.
Since the very beginning, Woodpecker have been passionate about designing and sourcing the finest wooden floors.
Their dedication starts in the forest.
Woodpecker only use responsibly sourced wood with full FSC® or PEFC certifications, selecting the trees before they are felled and paying close attention to how they are sawn, stacked and dried.
As interest soars in ‘wabi sabi style’ – an interior trend celebrating the aesthetic appeal of imperfections – wood floor experts Woodpecker Flooring are embracing natural beauty in all its unfiltered forms.
Woodpecker Flooring’s Berkeley Century Pine is a majestic collection that brings a wealth of character through its thick, traditionally oiled boards. Each board has been hand-worked and boasts undulating ridges and grooves, as well as knots, scrapes and age-blackened bevels and nail holes. It is these imperfections that give Berkeley Century Pine its distinctive finish.
Darwyn Ker, Managing Director of Woodpecker Flooring, said: “The appetite for more natural, slightly imperfect finishes is growing. Homes are very much a reflection of real life and not everything is perfect all of the time. Berkeley Century Pine reflects this in a truly authentic way. These are beautifully imperfect floors with a story to tell.”
Berkeley Century Pine is part Woodpecker Flooring’s Legacy Floor Range; all these boards offer something extra special, from careful handfinishing to extraordinary textures and character.
Consumer interest in wabi sabi style is rising according to research from Pinterest Trends.
Berkeley Century Pine Engineered Wood Flooring is available now from woodpeckerflooring.co.uk priced at £123 per m2
The dry wood is then kilned twice for maximum stability before being machined. Centuries-old hand-finishing techniques - such as lacquering, oiling and antiquing the wood - further enhance its natural beauty.
It’s fair to say, nobody knows or cares more about wood than Woodpecker.
Headquartered in Caerphilly, Woodpecker currently offer over 100 flooring options in real wood, engineered wood and wood design which retail online and at nationwide stockists. For more information:

While monochrome has been around for a while, the most upto-date monochrome trend uses added texture to really elevate the space. My Furniture has incorporated textures such as wicker, stained and marbled finishes and tactile fabrics into its newly launched black and white pieces for dining and living areas, as well as the bedroom. These elements, and additional design features like fluting, add more depth, taking monochrome to a whole new level.
For monochrome dining, the generously sized Rocco Black Dining Table comfortably seats six people. Made from solid oak and oak veneer, it is stained black and lacquered, making it a robust piece of furniture that will stand the test of time. In contrast, the elegant Loretta Dining Table has a striking white silhouette with its marble-effect, toughened glass tabletop. It also
seats up to six people.
To complement the monochrome dining look, Black Alveare Dining Chairs in Chalk look simply fabulous alongside a black or white table. The distinctive laser-cut hexagonal detailing in matt black sits beautifully against the cushioned backdrop of cool chalk velvet. Matching Black Alveare Counters Stools look super stylish with a white or black counter or kitchen island.
If you’d love to embrace monochrome in your bedroom, My Furniture has created the new Kingston Wicker collection, taking inspiration from luxury Caribbean hotel interiors. On-trend wicker detailing softens the look of the pieces in this range. The Kingston Wicker Bed is made from solid wood, with a durable black polyurethane

paint finish. It features a distinctive winged headboard, edged with black wicker.
The matching Kingston Wicker Chest of Drawers features six soft-close drawers allowing for generous storage. The handles add a luxurious touch with their brushed brass finish. The Kingston Wicker Dressing Table incorporates handy cable ports in the cupboards, making it practical for use as a dressing table or home office desk. Completing the collection is the Kingston Wicker Bedside Table.
For a monochrome lounge palette, the Porter
Armchair in Borg Cream takes inspiration from the interiors of 1960s California. The soft, tactile Borg fabric makes for a striking contrast against the solid ash frame, with matt black finish, and brass feet caps. For the ultimate in glamour, the Ella Loveseat in Black is sure to be a talking point. Inspired by American Art Deco, it comfortably seats two adults for a cosy movie night. To complement the Art Deco look, the Rubell Stool in Black is a handy occasional or footstool; so too is the Senio Hexagonal Stool in Black Velvet with a brass-finish hexagonal base.

Anew arrival to the Swadling Brassware family provides a contemporary twist on classic shower fittings.
Living Copper adds an intriguing extra option alongside more established favourite finishes, such as chrome and brass. Putting copper in the spotlight – instead of its usual role as concealed pipework – the new collection delivers a truly different dimension in colour and tone. Its opulent pinkish hue is at once eye-catching yet understated, transforming the look and feel of any bathroom space.
Living Copper adds instant warmth to a bathroom and works beautifully in both contemporary and traditional bathroom designs. It complements warm pastels and offers a wonderful contrast to cool, light marble surfaces and looks particularly striking against a dark tiled backdrop.
As the name suggests, Living Copper has a living quality that changes and evolves over time, contributing to its unique appearance. The uncoated copper will oxidize into a finish
known as a patina, which protects the metal from corrosion. Each piece of Living Copper reacts uniquely to its environment, ageing gracefully and developing its own character and variations in tone over time.
