The loss of a loved one is a challenging time. We understand that individuals may be facing a multitude of emotions and questions, and it can be particularly upsetting if your loved one has either left you out of their Will or left you less than expected.
The Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975
English law has a long-established principle that allows an individual the testamentary freedom to leave their property, assets, and other wealth to whoever they wish on their death. However, it is possible for the English courts to intervene and help certain categories of applicants who have not been provided with “reasonable financial provision” in a loved one’s Will, or where there is no Will, they fail to benefit under the rules of intestacy.
A claim is not limited to simply having no provision made for an applicant under their loved one’s Will and can also include circumstances where not enough provision has been made for them.
It can of course be difficult to ascertain what might constitute “reasonable financial provision” as each applicant will have unique circumstances.
The court follows two stages when considering a claim:
(a) Has reasonable financial provision been made for the applicant?
(b) If not, there needs to be an objective assessment for what provision should be made.
The legislation governing this area of law is known as the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975 (“the 1975 Act”). In order to pursue a claim, it is a pre-requisite that the deceased died domiciled in England or Wales.
The following category of applicants are eligible to make a claim:
• The spouse or civil partner of the deceased;
• A former spouse or civil partner of the deceased (providing they have not remarried or entered into a new civil partnership);
• A person who has cohabited with the deceased and was living in the same household as him/her for two years immediately ending before the date the deceased has died and as though that person and the deceased were a married couple or civil partners;
• The child of the deceased as well as anyone treated as a child of the family by the deceased due to marriage or civil partnership;
• Lastly, any person who was being maintained, either wholly or partly by the deceased immediately before their death.
In determining “reasonable financial provision” a court would look at what it is that is reasonable for an applicant to receive for their maintenance. For spouses and civil partners, the provision extends to what is reasonable for them to receive, regardless of whether it is necessary for their own upkeep. This standard is higher than that awarded to other applicants.
In considering what to award, the court applies a test of fairness so that awards are not based on luxurious standards, but neither are they based on poverty levels. As part of the exercise in determining reasonable financial provision, the court will have regard to what is commonly referred to as “the section 3 factors”.
The court will have regard to the factors referred to in section 3 of the Act when considering what might amounts to “reasonable financial provision”. These include the following:
1. An applicant’s future financial needs and resources, including earning capacity.
2. The future needs and resources of any other applicant including earning capacity.
3. The future financial needs and resources of any beneficiary including earning capacity.
4. The deceased’s obligations and responsibilities towards the applicant or beneficiary.
5. The size and nature of the deceased’s net estate.
6. The physical and/or mental condition of the applicant or any other beneficiary.
7. Any other matter the court considers relevant, including the condition of the party.
The opposite is not a conclusive list and there are also further considerations given to particular applicants that is not discussed in this article.
Any claim must be brought within six months of the date the grant of probate was issued. Any claim outside of this time requires the consent of the court which is only granted in exceptional circumstances. Ideally, you would want to start dialogue with the Personal Representatives of the deceased’s estate long before the 6-month deadline with a view to settling matters without the need to issue a claim. For that reason, the sooner you obtain legal advice following a loved one’s passing, the better.
If you have been left out of a loved one’s estate, or feel that provision has not been made for you under their Will, please do not hesitate to contact Sangita Manek by email at Sangita.Manek@IrwinMitchell.com or call on 0207 400 8749.

The Cotswold Company offers a wide range of furniture for the bedroom, living room, dining room, nursery, and kitchen as well as a large upholstery collection. Where are these products designed and made?
All of our products are designed by our in-house team at The Cotswold Company. To date, we have planted 85,000 trees, and we remain committed to planting more trees than we use, ensuring that we give back to the environment that continues to inspire us.
Looking ahead to 2025, we have set ourselves further sustainability goals and will be delivering dedicated training to all our staff.

Tring Brewery have announced The Repair Shed as their ‘Charity of Choice’ for 2025.
The Repair Shed is a charity programme which brings local, older men together to combat social isolation, offering them welcoming sheds to make and mend, forming bonds with like-minded ‘Shedders’. looking forward to working with The Repair Shed. ‘The Shedders’ are a community of hardworking and friendly local men, many with a taste for quality ale.
As a proud local brewer, we recognise value in social community settings, whether that be the warmth of a quaint village pub or the well-worn workbench of a men’s shed. I’m sure we can help raise funds and awareness for such a genuine initiate!” Twelve brand new beers will be brewed by Tring Brewery to raise awareness for The Repair Shed, starting with ‘Chisel & Chip’ Golden Ale launched in January. Each brew will be ‘shed themed ‘in name and design. Tony Mackinder, The Repair Shed Officer, shares his excitement about partnering with Jared and the team at the brewery:
Founded in 2015, The Repair Shed are excited to celebrate 10 years of charitable make-do-and-mend efforts in 2025.
Launched in 2015, The Repair Shed is just one arm of Community Action Dacorum, a local charity who’s tenets are “Community | Wellbeing | Employability”. Using the Repair Shed’s venues, which are situated in Hemel Hempstead, Northchurch, Kings Langley and Redbourn, “Shedders” can work on personal projects alongside community builds and refurbishments. Amongst other things, these include eco-friendly ‘bug hotels’, and planters which adorn local towns centres.
Shedders are also given time to work on income generation projects on behalf of the charity, although additional fundraising opportunities are vital for the longevity of the sheds.
The Repair Shed offers tools, materials and a warm welcome to dozens of older men, who have access to sheds in Hemel Hempstead, Kings Langley, Northchurch and Redbourn. Alongside special beer releases, Tring Brewery will raise funds through bi-annual members’ evenings, their annual ToadFest beer festival, an exciting online raffle and further ventures yet to be revealed. Jared Ward, communications at Tring Brewery, is excited to kickstart the project. Jared comments:

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Jared and the brewery team to promote and support The Repair Shed, especially as we celebrate the 10th Anniversary of this impactful project.”
Simon Aulton, Chief Executive at Community Action Dacorum said: “The Repair Sheds make a massive difference to the lives of our Shedders, reducing loneliness and isolation across the borough. We are immensely grateful to Tring Brewery for their support, which will allow us to help more people locally.”
The brewery’s collaborative monthly ales will be available on draught from local pubs and their Dunsley Farm brewery shop. Details for brewery members’ nights, ToadFest, and further activities will be announced via Tring Brewery social media and newsletter channels throughout the year. February is an exciting time in the kitchen as we look forward to new seasonal produce that gives a hint of warmer lighter and longer days.
Forced Yorkshire rhubarb is a fantastic example of a taste of spring arriving early. These tender stems are grown in sheds illuminated by candle light giving
the rhubarb a more delicate and subtle flavour and a beautiful shade of pink when gently cooked , a real treat at this time of year when the vast majority of British produce still clings to a winter feel.
Some say there is no fool like an old fool and this month’s recipe takes the humble rhubarb fool to the next level is quick easy and delicious!
Ingredients
Serves 4
Rhubarb Fool
• 400g rhubarb, trimmed
• 100g golden caster sugar
• 50ml Grand Marnier or Cointreau
• 300ml double cream
• 500g tub 0% fat Greek yogurt
• ½ vanilla pod split and seeds scraped out
Method
Rhubarb Fool
1. Cut the rhubarb into 2.5cm chunks. Place in a pan with 75g sugar, liqueur and 75ml cold water and the split vanilla pot and seeds. Bring to the boil; simmer gently for 5min. Strain rhubarb, reserving syrup.
2. Pour syrup back into the pan and simmer until reduced by a third. Cool.
3. Whisk cream, yogurt, and the rest of sugar until soft peaks form. Mash half the rhubarb; stir into the cream. Fold in remaining pieces.
Lemon and Stem Ginger Biscuits
1. Mix the butter and sugar with a wooden spoon. Stir in the spices, lemon zest and flour, then tip in the candied lemon peel and stem ginger – you might need to get your hands in to bring the mix together as a dough.
2. Divide the dough in two and shape each half into a log about 5cm across. Wrap in cling film, then chill for 1 hr. You can freeze the unbaked dough for up to three months.
3. Heat the oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4. Slice the logs into 1cm-thick rounds, place on two baking trays lined with baking parchment and bake for 12-15 mins. Leave to cool on the tray.
1. Divide the fool between six pretty glasses.
2. Serve with the syrup and lemon and stem ginger biscuits
Lemon and Stem Ginger Biscuits

• 85 dark muscovado sugar
• 1½ tsp ground ginger
• ½ tsp ground cinnamon
• 1 lemon zested and 3-4 tsp juice
• 225g plain flour

Our teaching and learning focus at St Mary’s School centres on metacognition - a concept that goes beyond “what to learn” and delves into “how to learn.”
Metacognition, simply put, is thinking about thinking; it’s the difference between learning something and seeing yourself as a learner. This enhanced self-awareness enables students to choose effective strategies, recognise their strengths, and address gaps in their knowledge.
Bringing Metacognition into the Classroom
We ensure that metacognition underpins our approach to teaching. This academic year we have focussed on metacognitive strategies, informed by the latest research from the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF). We teach students how to:
• Plan: Identify the steps and strategies needed for a task.
• Monitor: Stay on track and adapt when necessary.
• Evaluate: Reflect on what worked and what can be improved.
These skills are explicitly modelled in lessons, reinforced with consistent language, and embedded into everyday teaching.
When students ask themselves questions like, “What do I need to do for this task? How am I doing? What could I do better next time?” they’re building the habits of effective learners. By helping our students develop these skills, we aim to create independent, adaptable learners who are prepared for success in education and beyond.
We’ve also adapted our homework policy to align with our metacognitive focus. Homework is about purposeful, independent learning. Students are encouraged to take ownership of their tasks, use feedback to improve, and see homework as an opportunity to deepen their understanding.
Metacognition is more than a teaching strategy; research shows that metacognition boosts educational attainment across all phases and subjects. By embedding metacognitive practices throughout our curriculum, we are fostering not just academic success, but we are equipping students with the tools to take charge of their learning journey. This aligns seamlessly with our school’s TAKE CARE values, which emphasise enthusiasm, curiosity, ambition, resilience, and excellence.

Merchant Taylors’ Prep School, set in 15 acres of leafy grounds in Northwood, delivers the best of both worlds: a strong academic tradition with an extensive range of co-curricular and sporting activities. Located just minutes from Merchant Taylors’ senior school, it provides an excellent all-through option for high-achieving pupils.
The new Head, Miles Chester, who joined in September, brings extensive experience and a fresh, dynamic approach to the school. He is proud of the prep school’s quality of teaching and the holistic education it offers. “Through an enriched curriculum, we foster every opportunity for pupils to develop their individual potential, nurturing their unique passions, interests and aspirations. The foundation we provide ensures they are equipped with the skills and confidence to transition seamlessly to senior school,” said Mr. Chester.
The focus on the individual pupil is central to the Taylors’ ethos. From the very beginning, teachers take the time to get to know each pupil and their abilities, within a small-class setting. This allows enquiring minds to develop in an
environment where each pupil is given a sense of belonging that helps them to achieve.
Through an extensive programme of extracurricular clubs and activities, boys are encouraged to try new things and explore their talents and creativity. The school uses sport to reinforce its ethos and to instil discipline, teamwork, fair play, responsibility and respect.
Having the senior school nearby offers numerous opportunities for collaboration, particularly in sports, music and academics. With pupils now transitioning to senior school at the end of Year 6, the school is expanding its intake for Year 3 from September 2026. “This is a great opportunity for able pupils with potential to join our school and benefit from a well-balanced education and smooth transition to the senior school”, Mr Chester added.

The study, by the Sutton Trust education charity, shows that virtually every key profession is dominated by privately educated pupils grabbing the senior management/director positions
Their grip on power is most noticeable in the judiciary, where 74 per cent of leading judges (those in the High Court or Court of Appeal) were privately educated.
Figures in the report also show that one in three MPs (32 per cent) was privately educated –as were half the members of the Conservative Cabinet. Even in Jeremy Corbyn’s Shadow Cabinet, 13 per cent of members went to private school. Nationally, the figure is just 7 per cent.
The report, carried out by Dr Philip Kirby, goes on to show that 71 per cent of senior Army officers – two-star generals and above – went to private schools. Only 12 per cent attended comprehensives.
“The higher echelons of journalism are also dominated by the private sector, with 51 per cent educated in independent schools”
In medicine, 61 per cent of doctors were privately educated while 22 per cent went to selective state grammar schools and just 16 per cent to comprehensives. The list goes on – 48 per cent of civil servants were educated privately, 29 per cent went to selective grammar schools and 23 per cent to comprehensives.
The higher echelons of journalism are also dominated by the private sector, with 51 per cent educated in independent schools. And of those chief executives of FTSE 100 companies who were educated in the UK, 34 per cent were privately educated.
Nearly half the top actors – 42 per cent of Bafta Award winners – went to private schools, fuelling criticism that the profession is becoming more elitist.
“Our research shows that your chances of reaching the top in so many areas of British life are so much better if you went to an independent school,” said Sir Peter Lampl, the chairman of the Sutton Trust. “As well as academic achievement, an independent education tends to develop the essential skills such as confidence, articulacy and teamwork, which are vital to career success.
How can you find the right residential property solicitor for you?
If you’re gearing up to buy a new home, finding the right residential property solicitor is a crucial step in the homebuying process. With the complexity involved, having a skilled solicitor by your side can make all the difference. Here’s a guide to help you choose the right professional for your needs.
Understand the role of a property solicitor
Firstly, it’s important to understand what a residential property solicitor does. They manage the legal aspects of buying and selling property, including conducting searches, handling contracts, and ensuring that the transaction adheres to all legal requirements. Their expertise can help prevent pitfalls and ensure a smooth process.
Research and recommendations
Start your search by asking for recommendations from friends, family, or colleagues who have recently bought or sold property. Personal experiences can provide valuable insights. You can also explore online reviews. Look for solicitors with positive feedback specifically related to residential property transactions.
Check qualifications and experience
When considering potential solicitors, verify their qualifications. In England, solicitors must be registered with the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). Look for someone who specialises in residential property law, as this ensures they have the relevant knowledge and experience. Additionally, inquire about their experience in handling cases
similar to yours, how well they know the local area, whether you’re a firsttime buyer, a property investor, or looking to sell.
Evaluate communication and accessibility
Effective communication is key. During your initial consultation, pay attention to how the solicitor communicates. Are they clear and approachable? Do they take the time to answer your questions thoroughly? Accessibility is also vital; you need a dedicated solicitor who will go the extra mile to deliver the results you need by anticipating and effectively overcoming any legal or practical problems that may arise and available to discuss your case when needed.
Consider fees and transparency
Ensure you get a detailed breakdown of potential costs, including disbursements such as search fees and registration costs. A transparent solicitor will provide a clear estimate and explain any additional charges that may arise.
Make a decision
After conducting your research, weigh up your options. Consider not just their expertise and fees, but also how comfortable you feel working with them. Your solicitor should not only be extremely competent but also someone you can communicate openly with.
Buying a home is a significant financial commitment, and having the right solicitor can make a substantial difference to your experience. If you wish to speak to a member of our residential property team, please contact 01753 889995 or email enquiries@bpcollins.co.uk. www.bpcollins.co.uk
Planning a holiday abroad with your children should be a time of joy and excitement. However, for separated parents, it can also come with legal and logistical challenges that must be carefully navigated. At KJ Smith Solicitors, located in the heart of Beaconsfield Old Town, our experienced Family Law Team is here to provide expert guidance, helping you navigate these complexities and ensure your holiday plans go smoothly.
One of the most important considerations when taking children abroad is whether you need the other parent’s consent. There are circumstances where it may be necessary to obtain permission from the other parent before travelling outside of England and Wales, or you may need to apply for permission of the Court. If you do not, you may inadvertently breach legal requirements, which could result in complications and avoidable distress, such as being stopped at the airport or facing legal action.
If you’re uncertain whether the other parent’s consent is required or if you’re struggling to obtain it, we can help. Our family law specialists, Anna Ferro and Harpreet Phal, specialise in resolving disputes between separated parents and can advise on your legal rights, responsibilities, and potential remedies, such as applying to the Court for permission if necessary.
“One of the most important considerations when taking children abroad is whether you need the other parent’s consent”
Our Family Law Team can also provide expert advice on a range of other child-related matters, including shared care arrangements, financial support, and relocation issues. We understand that family dynamics can be emotionally charged, and our priority is to help you find practical solutions in a non-confrontational manner that protects your children’s best interests.
At KJ Smith Solicitors, we are proud to support families in navigating life’s challenges with confidence and clarity. To introduce ourselves and understand your situation, we offer a free 45minutes initial consultation for parents seeking guidance.
Whether you are planning an upcoming holiday or have broader questions about family law related issues, we can work with you to achieve a stress-free and legally secure way forward.

When planning for the future, many people assume that writing a Will is enough to ensure their affairs are in order. However, a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) serves a different and equally important purpose. Whilst both documents help manage personal affairs, they operate at different times and cover different aspects of decisionmaking.
Shannon Zermani, a lawyer in the Wills, Trusts and Probate team at Blaser Mills, outlines the key differences between a Will and an LPA for effective estate planning.
A Will is a legally binding document that outlines how a person’s estate (money, property, and possessions) should be distributed after their death. It allows individuals to:
• Appoint executors to manage their estate
• Specify who should inherit their assets
• Name guardians for any minor children
• Make their funeral wishes known
• Provide for charities or other beneficiaries
A Will only takes effect upon the death of the person who has created it and can be changed throughout your lifetime.
What is a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA)?
An LPA is a legal document that allows someone to appoint one or more individuals (the attorneys) to make decisions on their behalf if they lose mental capacity during their lifetime.
There are two types of LPAs:
Health and Welfare LPA
These covers decisions about medical treatment, care, and daily living. It only takes effect if the donor (the person putting the LPA in place) loses mental capacity. Whilst the donor has capacity, only they will make decisions about their health and welfare.
Property and Financial Affairs LPA
This allows the attorneys to manage finances, including bank accounts, bills, property sales, and investments. It can be used either before or after the donor loses mental capacity, depending on their wishes.
Unlike a Will, an LPA is valid only during the donor’s lifetime. Once the donor passes away, the LPA ceases to be effective, and the executor of the Will takes over.
Key differences
The main difference between a Will and an LPA is their purpose. A Will is designed to distribute a person’s assets after death, while an LPA is intended to manage a person’s affairs during their lifetime if they lose mental capacity.
A Will takes effect only after death, whereas an LPA can take effect during the donor’s lifetime if required. In a Will, individuals appoint executors to manage their estate, whereas in an LPA, they appoint attorneys to make decisions on their behalf.
Another key difference is that a Will does not require registration with any authority before it becomes valid. In contrast, an LPA must be registered with the Office of the Public Guardian before it can be used.
Do I need both?
Yes. Many people create a Will but overlook setting up an LPA. However, without an LPA, if you lose mental capacity due to illness or an accident, no one (not even family) has automatic rights to manage your affairs. They would have to apply to the Court of Protection for a deputyship order. This will lead to delays, potential financial difficulties, and costly court applications.
By having both a Will and an LPA, you ensure that your affairs are taken care of, both during your lifetime and after your death by those appointed. You also ensure that you are appointing people whom your trust.
If you are thinking about setting up a Will or an LPA get in touch with Shannon Zermani on 01494 478 687 or email shannon.zermani@ blasermills.co.uk.
Separation is often an emotionally charged and challenging experience, but family mediation offers a constructive way to navigate it without the stress and expense of court proceedings. Mediation is a voluntary and confidential process where a neutral third party helps separating couples communicate effectively, identify shared goals, and reach mutually beneficial solutions.
The Mediation Process
1. Initial call
Mediation begins with an initial telephone consultation where the mediator discusses the process with each party and assesses whether mediation is appropriate.
2. Individual meetings
Each party meets privately with the mediator to discuss priorities and issues and determine their suitability for joint mediation sessions.
3. First joint meeting
If both parties wish to proceed, joint sessions are scheduled to outline agreements, address pressing issues, and establish an agenda for future discussions.
4. Further joint meetings
The agenda for the future meetings will depend on the issues but typically focus on child arrangements and financial disclosure. If consensus is reached, key decisions are documented in the following:
• Open Financial Statement – Summarises financial information disclosed during mediation.
• Memorandum of Understanding – Details the agreed resolutions but is not legally binding until reviewed by solicitors.
• Parenting Plan – Outlines child arrangements and co-parenting agreements.
The Benefits of Mediation Flexibility
Mediation allows couples to set their own agenda and discuss issues that matter to their family, offering personalised solutions that courts may not provide. Sessions are scheduled at convenient times, and the pace is set by the participants.
Privacy
Unlike court proceedings, mediation is confidential, fostering open discussions without fear of
repercussions. Conversations occur on a “without prejudice” basis, meaning proposals cannot be used in court if an agreement isn’t reached.
Cost and Speed
Mediation is typically faster and more affordable than litigation. Participants have control over the process, ensuring discussions remain productive and focused.
A Smarter Path Forward
Mediation encourages communication, reduces conflict, and promotes amicable resolutions. Recent legal changes emphasise mediation as a preferred approach, making it a valuable alternative to court battles.

Award-winning clinic’s new collaboration offers a holistic approach to feeling good inside and out
Most brides-to-be will testify to the butterflies that lurk beneath the Chantilly lace-laden, fantasy world of wedding planning. But what about when ‘pre-wedding jitters’ become full-blown anxiety?
In addition to arranging the venue, vows, guest list and menu, the pressure to look picture-perfect under the scrutinous eyes of hundreds of yours – and his –nearest and dearest can be overwhelming.
That’s where Regents Park Aesthetics can help. The internationally acclaimed medical spa has teamed up with fitness trainer Hope Whitman, aka The Bridal Coach, to offer brides bespoke and carefully curated skin, nutrition and wellness packages to help them feel radiant and oozing confidence on their big day.
With the summer and autumn months the most popular for nuptials, now is the optimum time to begin to prepare, says Regents Park Aesthetics’ owner and nurse practitioner Kay Greveson.
“There’s so much pressure on brides to look ‘perfect’. I want them to feel their best, inside and out”
“Together, Hope and I offer a holistic approach to everything you need before your wedding, from skincare, aesthetic treatments and body contouring to diet, nutrition and personal training to help you look and feel your best,” Kay says. Or, as Hope puts it, to get “that wedding glow that everybody wants”. Timing is “imperative”, Kay continues.
“Ideally, we will start work with a client at least three months before the wedding. Injectables like antiwrinkle treatments and dermal fillers are still the most popular to achieve that open-eyed, fresh appearance. With a new client, three months allows us to assess the results and decide what to tweak for the big day.
“Other treatments like Hydrafacials, which cleanse, extract and hydrate the face to create a radiant complexion, and Dermaplaning have to be timed in a certain sequence. You can’t have them all on the same day; they’re usually about two weeks apart,” Kay explains.
“A lot of people think Dermaplaning is just shaving the face. But it’s taking off the peach fuzz and dead skin, which means skincare will penetrate the skin more effectively and the makeup will go on flawlessly and sit better.
“And with radiofrequency, which is skin tightening for the face and neck, it takes three months for the results to show.”
With more than 12 years in the aesthetics industry, award-winning nurse Kay can recommend a wide variety of treatments to suit a bride’s individual desires.
“Sometimes a client may not know exactly what they want; they just know they want to look glowing and fresh. Not everyone wants injectables so treatments like retinols and vitamin C, combined with a skin peel, or microneedling to stimulate collagen production, can really give you a blast,” Kay says.
Studies suggest as many as two in three brides plan to slim down in order to accentuate the all-important dress.
Hope advises initially setting weight loss goals aside.
“Instead, we focus on how you want to feel while walking down the aisle and try and harness that.

“There’s so much pressure on brides to look ‘perfect’. I want them to feel their best, inside and out,” she says.
Hope works with clients by shunning unhealthy quick fixes and creating customised diet and exercise programmes to help them lose inches, feel confident and maintain their new look for a lifetime. Over the last four years, she’s helped hundreds of women attain their health and fitness objectives.
“My services are tailored to fit a bride’s lifestyle and needs. Often they are mums or business owners who have a lot going on, so I make sure their programme is something they can stick to,” she explains.

“Between three, six and 10 months is generally what we offer. For anyone planning to tie the knot this summer, now is crunch time if you want to see the best results.”
Kay says many clients find that no amount of diet and exercise will shift “stubborn areas of fat” such as on the tummy, thighs and jawline. This is where pioneering FDA-approved treatments like Emsculpt and CoolSculpting come in.
Emsculpt employs electromagnetic energy to melt fat and build muscle, delivering the toning equivalent of 20,000 sit-ups in just 30 minutes.
CoolSculpting uses extreme cold to freeze fat cells in targeted areas without damaging surrounding skin or tissue. The body then eliminates the fat naturally over a period of three to four months, offering “the results of lipo without the surgery”, Kay says.
Both Kay and Hope take pride in extending genuine care and professional support in the lead-up to one of the biggest days of your life, helping reduce stress while achieving that special sparkle, not just for the wedding day and honeymoon but hopefully for ever after.

Health isn’t a guessing game; it’s a science. Regular monitoring, including routine blood and urine tests are essential for maintaining overall health and wellbeing. Regular blood tests allow patients to maintain peak performance, whether chasing fitness goals or simply aiming for a better quality of life.
Doctor Now is a strong believer in ‘prevention is better than cure’, and health screening is the cornerstone of early detection. Doctor Now offers comprehensive screening that assesses a patient’s overall health including risks of diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer. For men, screening can include prostate health checks, while women can benefit from cervical screening tests and breast health monitoring. Additional men’s health services include testosterone levels, emotional/mental health, sexual health and fertility. Women’s health services encompass
everything from menstrual health (including PMS/PMT), hormonal health, fertility, emotional and mental health and menopause management.
In addition to regular monitoring and making positive lifestyle choices, understanding your family health history can provide critical insights into your potential risks. Doctor Now helps patients uncover patterns in their family medical history, enabling them to make informed decisions about their health. By combining this knowledge with proactive measures like targeted monitoring, you can reduce the likelihood of hereditary conditions impacting your life. Your family’s past doesn’t have to dictate your future, and Doctor Now is here to guide you every step of the way.

From the undertone to the finish –here’s how to find your perfect nude lipstick. By
Lara Owen
Finding the perfect nude lipstick is no small feat. It’s the holy grail of everyone’s make-up bag, and can make a look go from pared-back to perfectly polished.
Whether you reach for a deep matte like Zendaya, a satin finish like Hailey Bieber or a corally nude like Nicole Kidman – the formula, shade and staying power require a lot of thought when finding the perfect nude.
So, to demystify the process, celebrity makeup maestros share their top tips for finding your perfect nude lipstick.
How to find your skin’s undertone
The first step when finding your perfect nude is to determine your skin’s undertone.
If you have cool undertones, this will be
evident through bluish or purple veins. Oriflame‘s make-up artist and trainer Natalia Trepashko recommends colder pinks like mauve or berry.
“Avoid overly yellow or orange tones as they can clash,” she says.
Those with warm undertones, who have golden or peachy hues with green veins, should look for peach, caramel or brownish nudes.
If you’re neutral, you’re in luck, as it means the world’s your oyster when it comes to nude lips.
“If you’re neutral, veins are not distinctly green or blue,” says Trepashko. “You have more flexibility, and both cool and warm nudes can work – most likely taupe or beige is good on you.”
If you still can’t tell – it’s best to do a swatch of each in person.
“It’s always wise to swatch a few nude lipsticks side by side first before trying any one,” says BBC Glow Up judge and MAC Cosmetics director of make-up artistry, Dominic Skinner. “Then try on the one that has the same undertone as yourself to see if it fits.”
“Those with warm undertones, who have golden or peachy hues with green veins, should look for peach, caramel or brownish nudes”
The perfect nude for darker skin tones
The deeper your skin tone, the trickier it may be to find the perfect nude, as some shades are more likely to wash you out.
“Don’t be afraid to go richer and deeper,” says Skinner. “Some plums, berries and copper-toned lip colours can compliment deeper skin tones.”
Opting for nudes that lean into more brown than pink undertones can better compliment your skin tone – but personal preference is key – so don’t be afraid to experiment.
Matte, satin or gloss?
The finish of a nude lip depends on the look you’re wanting to go for.
“Matte is for bold, statement make-up; satin is for a more balanced, classy vibe; and gloss adds youthful freshness,” says Trepashko.
If you’re looking for a look that will carry you through from day-to-night, Skinner recommends a satin finish.
“Nudes look great in any finish but personally I love a satin finish – not too shiny and not too matte.”
Balancing a nude lip with the rest of your make-up
It may sounds ridiculous – because isn’t a nude lip supposed to match any make-up look?
That’s where you’re wrong. Balancing your eye and cheek colour to your lip plays a huge part in ensuring a flattering nude look.
“Choose a nude lipstick close to your natural lip colour to avoid competing with strong eye or cheek looks,” says Trepashko.
Skinner suggests working backwards. “Start with the bold feature first, whether it’s your eyes or cheeks. This helps you gauge how nude the lip should be.
“You might need to add an additional lip liner to the look to help make the lips stand out, without drawing attention away from the bolder eye or cheek.”
“Nudes look great in any finish”
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
“The biggest mistake is thinking nude equals pale,” says Skinner. “Nude isn’t about matching your skin colour; it’s about creating harmony.”
Like Skinner, Trepashko warns against going too light when choosing a nude. “The best nude matches your own lip colour,” she says. “Always exfoliate and moisturise beforehand, and don’t forget a matching lip liner for definition.”
But make sure the lip liner isn’t too dark, as professional make-up artist and founder of Ayu Cosmetics Suzie O’Neill says, “Ensure that your lip liner is the same shade as lipstick or one shade darker.
“You do not want your lipstick coming off and being left with a dark outline with no lipstick! Take a look at your lip conditions too – choosing a matte lipstick will dry out lips that are already dry.”
And don’t forget about the weather, as Skinner notes, “Your skin tone and undertone can change in different seasons, so you should consider changing your nude lip colour.
“You might need something more warmer in summer to compliment your tan or something cooler in winter to match the cooler light we get in winter.”

What is vegan beauty?
Just like a vegan diet, vegan beauty includes products that avoid anything that has been tested on animals or contains animal-derived ingredients such as beeswax, gelatine, honey or squalene.
“[Vegan] products are often created with crueltyfree principles, supporting ethical practices in the beauty industry,” explains co-founder of Odylique, Abi Weeds. “Vegan skincare works for all skin types [and] is packed with natural moisturisers, such as aloe vera and shea butter for hydration, alongside calming ingredients like tea tree oil and chamomile which reduce inflammation,” explains BEAUTY BAY‘s beauty expert Grace Ferns.
“Mature skin also benefits from antioxidant-rich formulas found in vegan products, which also help to combat ageing,” she claims.
How to tell if a product is vegan
Identifying whether your beauty product is vegan or not is quick and easy. The Vegan Society suggest looking out for a logo certification, such as the vegan trademark, which guarantees the product is free from animal ingredients and has not been tested on animals. These trademarks can look different, whether they come from Vegan Action, Cruelty Free International, PETA or Choose Cruelty Free. Familiarising yourself with these logos will help your determine which products are vegan and non-vegan.
If you feel that you ought to try and make some vegan beauty swaps but don’t know where to start, the experts have given their top recommendations for products they believe work better than animalderived products.
Is vegan skincare a good substitute for mainstream products?
When it comes to swapping more mainstream products for vegan beauty, some claim the benefits outweigh the cons. According to Weeds: “Vegan beauty products often contain fewer synthetic chemicals and harsh irritants, resulting in kinder formulations for the skin.” “Vegan skincare products are usually rich in antioxidants, botanicals and vitamins. They’re better for animals and the planet, and are also less likely to irritate the skin,” maintains skincare expert and founder of Update Aesthetics Clinics, Nina Prisk. “This is because some of the popular skincare ingredients that are animal-derived can be heavier and more likely to clog pores.”

Anti Wrinkle Botox Injections at our Clinic in Hazlemere, High Wycombe.
If you are looking for a qualified and experienced Doctor to administer Anti-Wrinkle Botox Injections treatment in High Wycombe? AntiWrinkle Botox Injections Treatment is Performed by our experienced Medical Doctor Ahmad.
This Anti-Wrinkle Botox Injections treatment reduces the appearance of wrinkles between the brows, on the forehead, and around the eyes that are caused by repeated movement of facial muscles over time. Though it’s normal for wrinkles to appear with age, they make one look old and tired. These wrinkles usually appear around the eyes and mouth, at the bridge of the nose, and between the eyebrows and neck.
Fortunately, botulinum toxin can be used to treat this condition. Many people opt for this treatment wherein botulinum toxin shots are injected right into the areas of concern. These injections cause the facial muscles to relax thereby reducing wrinkles that appear on the face over time.

Living with Multiple Sclerosis is challenging and before I came across Qigong, my quality of life was deteriorating. My fatigue was so debilitating I had to give up my job, I was limiting my social engagements and usual exercise routine and I was finding day to day life exhausting.
I was lucky enough to be introduced to Qigong, a traditional Chinese practice that integrates physical movement, breath control, and meditation to cultivate and balance the body’s vital energy, known as qi (or chi).
Over 2,000 years old, Qigong is often described as a mind-body practice that merges physical movements with focused intention. The slow, fluid motions of qigong are designed to harmonise the body, mind, and spirit, making it a holistic practice for both physical and mental health.
I started doing a regular daily practice and I felt better afterwards where with other types of exercises I often felt worse. I had more energy, felt more confident and positive, and I was able to say ‘yes’ to more things.
Qigong has taught me to notice my body; how it feels and how it moves; when I feel fatigued, I have learnt that movement is as important as rest. With these movements I am helping my body move energy, blood and lymph to where it needs to be and as such Qigong has changed my relationship
with my MS. I now feel more in control of my own health. My digestion is better, I am generally calmer and my overall immunity has improved. Today, I have now had no new lesions, I have more energy, more resilience to stress, I am back working, socialising and enjoying life!
I am now teaching this ancient technique to enable others to influence their own health. The movements are simple and easy to learn, you can do it anytime, anywhere and in any clothing. It is accessible to everyone whatever their abilities and health situation; there will always be a simple exercise that can help to improve wellbeing. Physically and mentally qigong has changed my life and reversed the downward course of my disease. It has taught me that the body innately wants to heal itself and by practicing regularly, I have the power to positively change my own health and wellbeing and those of others.
Seed Wellness offers qigong classes in Beaconsfield & Henley (the Henley Yoga Studio). For more information visit: www.seedwellness.co.uk/qigong

Swimkidz south bucks run by Tracey and her team which has been established for over 12 years. We have a large following in the area, teaching babies, toddlers and children to swim from as early as 12 weeks old.
Due to growth we are excited to have launched a brand new pool in Holtspur, Beaconsfield, a great addition to our other locations across south bucks.
Swimkidz focus is to teach water confidence, water safety and provide a safe environment for swimming lessons in the local community.
Drowning is still one of the most common causes of accidental death in children so being able to swim is an essential life-saving sill and it’s important to remember that children who appear water confident are not always competent swimmers.

Our lessons are structured, progressive and fun, babies are taught through repetition and sound including songs and toys. Children are taught with our instructor and pool helpers in the water on a 1:4 basis with use of noodles/floats and fun activities too. We have our own dedicated awards
programme, certificate and badge are awarded at the end of each level achieved.

IMAGE: SOULFUL HIDEAWAYS
For thousands of years of human history, we have seen castles as symbols of status, protection, power and most importantly (in our eyes anyway) gorgeous renderings of architectural design. The reason so many stand around the world to this day, surrounded by other modern masterpieces of construction is that they will always inspire marvel and stir curiosity. So why did we stop building
them? That we can’t answer, but what we can do is help you style your space using some mid (13th) century majesty. So for dining tables fit for royalty and lighting that would even bring illumination to the dark ages, stick around and explore with us our latest trend, Castlecore.
Creating an ambience isn’t just reliant on furniture, but the entire mood of the room. Surrounding yourself with tones that are tantalisingly downbeat often provides a subtle, yet moody, backdrop to highlight the bold and grand nature of castle life. Adorning the walls with a rich red or an overgrown green is one of the best ways to put your favourite pieces front and centre.
A seat at the table has rarely symbolically meant more than in the stories of castle courts. In this trend, large dining tables are characterised by large amounts of space for your nearest and dearest and often contain dark and distinguished wooden elements that make it a strong statement of robust interiors. Curved edges encompass the togetherness that harsh edges do not.
“Creating an ambience isn’t just reliant on furniture, but the entire mood of the room”
Bedrooms. In today’s time they contain a myriad of mod-cons, but in the middle-ages they were usually focused around one thing: their namesake. The throne wasn’t the only important individual piece of furniture in a castle; a place to sleep and rest has been the cornerstone of a quintessential home since the human story began. So the exuberance of a four-poster bed, a room within a room, is the ideal way to go from bedroom to bed chamber.
When we think of castles, our minds are cast to ceilings as high as the eye can see. But with tall rooms come the inevitable - tall lighting. Chandeliers have been a staple of castles since we had a word for ‘fire hazard.’ In 2025 they’re still a seriously stylish way of illuminating your space, albeit with candlelight replaced by something with a bit more longevity. However, the lack of flickering flames doesn’t mean that we need to
“A place to sleep and rest has been the cornerstone of a quintessential home since the human story began”
forgo the style that was so widely celebrated for so long. A modern day masterpiece is the pinnacle of Castlecore.
Storage, at times, is arguably the least interesting element of interiors. It is a space merely to hold other things we cherish and prize. However, placed in the right location and paired with the correct surroundings, it takes on an entire new lease of life. Displaying your favourite objects whilst seamlessly and stylishly blending with a grandiose backdrop ironically makes a large cabinet a subtle Castlecore detail. chaplins.co.uk

Oltco plays its part in recycling the equivalent of over 800 million plastic straws in driveways across the UK
Oltco is the UK’s leading sustainable resin bound driveway company, transforming driveways, patios, pathways, balconies, and pool surrounds for customers across the nation.
In 2019, Oltco developed Recycle Bound, a unique solution to help tackle the growing issue of plastic waste. Since its launch, the company has recycled the equivalent of over 800 million plastic straws in its resin bound installations across the UK.
Recycle Bound is made by combining a stone blend, resin, and recycled plastic, including straws, drink bottles, and food packaging sourced from plastic recycling points. Each square metre of Recycle Bound contains the equivalent of 3,000 plastic straws. For example, a standard 50 square metre driveway would recycle approximately 150,000 plastic straws.
With an estimated 12 million tonnes of plastic entering the ocean annually, the equivalent of a rubbish truck emptying every minute, plastic pollution is having a devastating impact on marine life and ecosystems. Oltco was inspired to develop
Recycle Bound after recognising the urgent need for innovative solutions to this global issue.
While predominantly used on driveways, patios, and pathways for residential properties, Recycle Bound has also been installed in large-scale commercial projects, including some of the UK’s most prestigious hotels and attractions.
Oltco’s Co-Director, Tom Stringer, said: “We’ve been thrilled by the overwhelming response to Recycle Bound. It’s a game-changer, helping our customers create stunning outdoor spaces while addressing the critical issue of plastic waste. The surface is hard-wearing, lasts for years, and is ideal for both residential and commercial projects.
At Oltco, we’re passionate about reducing plastic waste and are proud to see the impact Recycle Bound is having across the UK.”
Oltco continues to be at the forefront of resin bound solutions, offering innovative products and exceptional customer service.

Charles and his wife Caroline embarked on a remarkable 14-month sailing sabbatical across the Atlantic in 2021. Setting sail from Portsmouth, they explored France, Portugal, the Canary Islands, and Cape Verde before making the transatlantic crossing to St Lucia. After four months cruising through the Caribbean, they returned via the Bahamas, Bermuda, and the Azores. Their ensign flag was a constant companion throughout their journey, making it a deeply sentimental piece. Now, they wanted it expertly framed for display in their living room as a lasting reminder of their adventure.
The Challenges Preserving Fabric and Maintaining an Authentic Look.
Framing flags requires specialised techniques to preserve the fabric while showcasing its unique details. Different materials require different handling methods, as some mounting techniques can damage delicate fabrics. In this case, it was essential to secure the flag without causing stress to the fabric while maintaining its flowing, authentic appearance. Additionally, the frayed edges needed careful preservation to capture the essence of a flag that has braved the ocean.
The Solution
A Custom Frame Designed for Protection and Presentation.
To complement Charles’ country-style living room, we chose an oak-veneered frame with a deep rebate, allowing the flag to hang freely. The neutral tones of the wood frame ensured that the bold colours of the ensign remained the focal point. To enhance the sense of importance, we used a white spacer and mountboard to create a clean, museum-style display. The flag was carefully secured using invisible thread, strategically passed through the seams along the left side and top to hold it in place without damaging the fabric. The frayed tips were treated with clear archival glue to maintain their wind-blown effect. To protect the flag from fading and ensure an ultra-clear view, we fitted it with Artglass AR70, an antireflective glass that also reduces UV exposure.
“Your flags tell a story – whether from a sailing journey, military service, or a special event. Let us frame them with care and craftsmanship to keep your memories alive”
The Results
A Timeless Display – A Journey Captured in Art.
The final framed ensign is now the centrepiece of Charles and Caroline’s living room, serving as a timeless reminder of their incredible journey. The combination of high-quality materials and expert preservation techniques ensures the flag will remain in pristine condition for years to come, while the elegant oak frame seamlessly blends with their home décor.

Colour psychology. It’s a thing. The colours we surround ourselves with have the power to significantly shape and shift our moods. Think of phrases like singing the blues or a little ray of sunshine –blues can keep things on the lower side while a burst of yellow will uplift in an instant. So how does this all look and feel in the land of tiles? It goes a little something like this…
LEAN INTO... WARM NEUTRALS FOR NOURISHMENT
Choose an earthy stone tone and its ambient
colouring and easy depth of tone will immediately make shoulders drop and a sense of ease wash you. Tiles like our new Hacienda in Sandstone or Studio Minaret tiles with their combination of peachy neutral, white and brown have a warmth to them too so not only will you notice your mood feeling even-tempered but they’ll leave you feeling held and nourished too. What’s not to love?
“Two colours most associated with love and romance, red and pink tiles can cause a real stir”
Two colours most associated with love and romance, red and pink tiles can cause a real stir, especially when coupled together. Earthy pinks that feel soft and safe to be around – like that in our Carnation Border Rose tile and those in our Studio Jamboree ceramics tiles (in fact called Coral) used en masse have almost a womblike feeling of tenderness but mix in bursts of berry and scarlet and the playfulness comes to the fore. See our pink and red Studio Jamboree chequerboard to catch our drift. To really up the sensual side, go for red tiles on their own and watch your mood become that bit more seductive.
LEAN INTO... GREENS FOR ENERGY
Greens – they give you a boost when you eat them and they do much the same when you live in a space with them. Green tiles like our new Athens Mosaic tiles and Studio Cassius have a freshness to them that revitalises and helps to pep up energy levels. Typically, lighter green tiles raise energy levels most but even darker forest green tiles like the Amazon finish will have a positive impact,
grounding you as well as lifting. Or go for a mix of green shades in one tile with something like Studio Minaret Green Dot.
See things sunnyside-up with yellow tiles in your life. Colour-blocked yellow tiles like the hand painted Summer field Jamboree tiles from our Studio collection will give you a burst of positive energy even if you use them in a small sense (splashbacks and the such) but weave yellow into your decor in a more accented way with a tile like Sorrento Sabbia from the Nonna’s Kitchen collection and yellow becomes more mellow. Lemon-fresh or mustard magic, being around yellow 100% brings out the more joyful side of life.
Sure, blues are linked to melancholy but that doesn’t always have to be the case. Style a blue tile in a sombre way and if your mood is on the lower side, it may well not encourage you out to the other side. But go for a blue tile like the multicoloured Studio Souk with its powdered blue meets brown and sage green star and suddenly blue becomes about tranquility. The mix of tones shows a) how well blue gets along with other colours and b) how the companion colours take on each other’s qualities. Even deep, dark and mood navy blues like those in the Minaret Pink Dot and Studio Cosmos tile in Midnight become all about their chill out character with other colours there to temper its depths.
And finally, to the dark side, where black tiles can trigger a hidden confidence in you. Every colour has layers to it and the effect they can have on you varies, so while black might be associated with seriousness, it also is with mystery and power which in turn result in quiet confidence. It’s something to do with black’s sleek and chic nature – one look at our statement-making East Village tiles in Nero or the slightly more subtle basketweave version will show you that. A room tiled with either of these appears sophisticated and assured, and it’s nigh-on impossible to not let that rub off on your mood so you can seize the day, head held stylishly high. capietra.com

Where Saints Go announce the trends set to take interiors by storm in 2025
Homewares that bring together the serene and the bold are going to be big in 2025, according to the experts at interiors powerhouse Where Saints Go.
The eclectic interiors brand, which is renowned for its contemporary take on classic Scandi, Industrial and Boho pieces, believes the interiors world will be dominated by opposing themes as grounded and innovative styles come together to create one harmonious scheme.
Tracey Hague, Co-Founder of Where Saints Go, said: “There is a definite desire for interiors that are comforting, offering a sanctuary from the outside world. But this will be combined with pops of maximalism and an injection of colour to bring character and charm.
“A quirky combination of warmth, personality and eco-conscious design will be central to interiors in 2025.”
Here Tracey shares her top interior trends for 2025:
arched cabinetry.
Earthy and Calming Neutrals: Expect a continuation of calm tones—like sand, clay, and muted sage. These grounding colours create a sophisticated and harmonious space, ideal for those seeking tranquillity.
Warm and Inviting Tones: Warm browns, such as Pantone’s Colour of the Year Mocha Mousse, terracotta, and mustard are making a strong comeback, offering a cosy, inviting feel.
Bold Accents: Deep jewel tones such as emerald green, ruby red, and sapphire blue are likely to be big in 2025, often paired with neutrals to add vibrancy without overwhelming a space.
Soft, Tactile Comforts: Plush fabrics like bouclé, velvets, and chenille will continue to make spaces feel comforting and luxurious.
Natural and Sustainable Choices: There’s an emphasis on organic fabrics like cotton, linen, and wool, particularly those that are sustainably sourced.
Textured Weaves: Expect to see more intricate patterns and tactile weaves in upholstery. Patterns inspired by artisanal craftsmanship and heritage textile techniques are becoming focal points.
Modular and Adaptable Pieces: With space optimization in mind, modular furniture that can be reconfigured for different needs will trend. Pieces like sectional sofas and stackable chairs are being designed for both aesthetics and function.
Vintage and Retro Influences: A nostalgic revival is underway with 70s and 80s influences making their way into modern furniture. Expect pieces with bold lines, retro patterns, and a touch of glam.
