Leave confident in your ability to prescribe water exercise for all your clients.
Marietta Mehanni Balance = Strength *GYMSTICK* SESSION DESCRIPTION: Balance training is usually left to the end of a workout or something that we focus more on as it becomes more important to our aging clientele, yet it is an integral part of everyday life. Using the Gymstick – balance becomes a part of the workout alongside strength and muscle endurance. Find out how to implement balance training into any workout where muscle and cardiovascular conditioning is the focus without taking away any intensity. The balance is having your cake and eating it too. LEARNING OUTCOMES: • To demonstrate that using the Gymstick and increase resistance enhances balance. Various moves can also be extracted and used in circuit and conditioning style classes to add a bit of flair and spice things up! Options within moves will also be discussed to ensure we stay results focused for individuals within a team or group.
John Polley Contractile vs Tensile – are you training all the tissues? SESSION DESCRIPTION: In this revolutionary session, JP wants to take you through a more complete understanding of what tissues we train with our clients. Contractile, or tensile? Which is best for what type of client, sport, fitness level, goal. What exercises suit a sand runner, as opposed to a road runner; a pole dancer to a podiatrist? What component requires muscular force and what requires elastic stiffness? Join JP for the answers in this very practical session. This session is designed to challenge your thoughts on why we train people the way we do, what elements we are truly addressing, how force is accepted by the human body and how best to apply this information. LEARNING OUTCOMES: This session is designed to: • Take you through a practical understanding of the concepts of contractile and tensile tissues and the way they accept and dissipate force • Discuss how this affects different types of client • Give you some useful guidance on how to assess how much of each element of contractile or tensile training is useful for different populations • Take you through a practical session so you can feel for yourselves the difference between contractile and tensile • Help you apply this new approach by developing a way forward balancing the blend of the two elements which exist in every client.

John Polley Desk posture – Practical Movement Solutions for Coaches SESSION DESCRIPTION: Our entire existence is being consumed by sitting. Working in an office, eating, resting, gaming, socialising, travelling – sit, sit, SIT! As exercise professionals we see our jobs as the opposite; to provide movement in an otherwise sedentary life. But without knowing how to combat the effects of all this sitting on the tissues of the body, we can exacerbate the many problems sitting has already had on our clients. These restrictions stop us from doing our jobs and are often causing pain in clients before we even get to work. Join JP for a better understanding of what is happening and how to help, by gaining real life simple movements designed to free the tissues for better mobility, wellness and then, performance at the highest level. This can be applied to all levels of client, from the severely restricted to the professional athlete, as JP can attest. LEARNING OUTCOMES: This session is designed to: • Identify the perils of sitting for the human being for posture and therefore, health and their ability to exercise • Understand what can happen in the body • Look at what our profession can do to help • Deliver a host of movement solutions for exercise professionals to apply with their clients immediately, targeting the most prolific client profile of them all, the sedentary worker.
Angela Jenkins Exercise and Lifestyle Plans for Hormonal Balance SESSION DESCRIPTION: This workshop will take you through practical programming for clients with hormonal imbalance. 14
Suzanne Cox Exercise for Brain and Mental Health SESSION DESCRIPTION: Increasing evidence tells us that exercise and a healthy lifestyle can largely affect our brain health in later life and our ongoing mental health. More and more research shows us why this can occur and what happens at a deeper level to make it so beneficial. In this session we will cover various conditions of the brain and how they become affected by a poor lifestyle. We will look at the science behind how exercise works, the best strategies for success and modalities for adherence so that you are comfortable in providing various programs, advice and information to people with these conditions. LEARNING OUTCOMES: • Knowledge of the various brain degeneration conditions/mental health disorders that are affected by lifestyle related disease • Current research into brain degeneration and the pathophysiology behind this • Considerations in programming • Future research and it’s implications • Practical advice and information for clients with these conditions.
Cody Sipe Functional Abdominal and Low-Back Training SESSION DESCRIPTION: Core training is often misunderstood and inaccurate by clients and trainers alike. The primary responsibility of the abdominal and lowback muscles is to protect the spine during functional movement. Therefore the optimal way to train the core is through multiplanar stability and endurance exercise movements that have been shown to minimize spinal compression and stress. LEARNING OUTCOMES: • Describe the musculature of the core and the functions of key muscle groups • Identify deficiencies with traditional abdominal exercises • Practice multiplanar exercise movements that train the core musculature safely and effectively • Determine which exercises to use for clients with low-back problems.
David Norman FUNctional Rig Training SESSION DESCRIPTION: Learn how to maximise rig based training for greatest member engagement and programming variety LEARNING OUTCOMES: Pros and cons of various rig units for functional training spaces the benefits of group training and how to maximise spaces and group dynamics whilst providing progamming diversity and progression/regression.
Andrew Chadwick High Intensity = Good - But is it Good All the Time? SESSION DESCRIPTION: The current trend in fitness is High Intensity. You know that it burns more calories per the same duration. But is it good to do high intensity work all the time? Gain insight into the metabolic stress placed on the human system during HIIT. Learn other stressors that need to be looked at before you place your client under the demands of a HIIT session. Learn simple methods to adjust movement to “meet your clients where they need to be met”. LEARNING OUTCOMES: Understand some of the stress that is placed on the body. How that effects the ability of our clients to do HIIT and learn strategies to help adjust sessions to suit clients at that time.
Katrina Cochrane Inspired Group Training SESSION DESCRIPTION: Discover a variety of group training regimes and practical programming concepts that will have your clients inspired to show up every session, fully engaged and ready to perform. Katrina demonstrates how, by bringing a range of strength and conditioning components into everyday small group training. You will be able to deliver training that adapts and responds to clients of all levels and abilities within the group. LEARNING OUTCOMES: Delegates will take away from the session not only a variety of fun, interactive, challenging activities and training ideas but understanding the importance of programming specifically for components of fitness and how to relate these to individual and group goals and outcomes.
Gareth Houley Intensity Thresholds SESSION DESCRIPTION: With the fitness industry going down the path of higher and higher intensities of activities to achieve results for our clients we have lost sight of all but one threshold ABSOLUTE FATIGUE. In this workshop we will cover the numerous thresholds that the body has and use real life examples to discover which thresholds we need to work towards to create change with our clients. LEARNING OUTCOMES: • Define physiological thresholds • Discover how the body changes at these thresholds • Experience and reproduce a number of thresholds to elicit change in the human body • Share new research on human movement and physiology.
John Polley Outdoor Connection SESSION DESCRIPTION: It’s said human beings are happier, better functioning adults if we commune with nature, spend time being social, move in ways that are authentic to our design and when we take time to give back to ourselves. Join JP as he takes you through a fun and practical session to connect you to the outdoors, to each other, and to yourselves, through the medium of movement. During the session, there is practical demonstration and explanation of how this all comes together to boost your client outcomes and in turn, your client retention, as they get more than work on their human body, and instead, enrich themselves as human beings, through enjoying movement. This is a very practical, interactive session and you should expect to get involved and feel the benefits for yourselves! LEARNING OUTCOMES: This session is designed to: • Give a broad range of new ideas which can be tailored to any group and any level of ability • Understand the integrated physical improvements through variability of movement for life and sport of this style of training • Understand the effects of fellowship in the group dynamic • Understand how this more connected approach to group training boosts business retention.

This lecture will explain the differences and the implications and give practical strategies that will help tailor your exercise program to your client’s specific needs. LEARNING OUTCOMES: • Understanding the differences between hypertonic and hypotonic pelvic floor • Implications for developing ParQ forms and training clients • Importance of breath work and working within your scope of practice.
Ian O’Dwyer Performance to Play SESSION DESCRIPTION: Performance is everyday life, whether you are a parent, corporate, child, athlete, elderly or coach it affects each human being differently. Here we will experience how to reset the fuses, precondition the client and finally prepare them for their outcome. One exception it will be done through PLAY! Challenging the human being with tasks, games and drills the body recognizes and enjoys!
LEARNING OUTCOMES: • Define each group of clients and their fundamental needs • Observe what movements and forces are required for success • Define a metric for the client to use prior to their performance • Experience the challenges and feel the changes • Become empowered with applications that create enjoyment in performance.

SESSIONS Getting New Clients Hooked
Mana Fleming I have approximately 14 years experience teaching Tai Qi and Pilates and 10 years practice in Chinese medicine including formal lecturing. In my past life I was involved in sport to an elite level. My interests lie in the mind/body connection, the use of food as medicine and how we transfer from elite level fitness to an every day fulfilling life. I have a variety of treatment areas I specialise in. They include injury rehabilitation, addictions, mental health and menopause. After many years of working with people both individually and in groups I have discovered the joy of witnessing the empowerment of claiming our own body, mind, spirit and our own vital lives. The result is a desire to be part of a wellness culture where people are given accurate information and the ability to make choices on how to live their own health filled life.
