welcome
Welcome to the 2015 Exercise Industry Awards – our first year incorporating Exercise in our name, designed to reflect the ever changing, and wide ranging industry that we all have the pleasure of serving and working in. Entry rates and quality of entrants has continued to climb in 2015, demonstrating the value and importance of the awards in our industry. As always, we strive to continue to improve and evolve the awards to meet the ever changing needs of the exercise industry. This year you will see two categories merged (small club and exercise studio) as well as the renaming of the Innovation category to Initiative. We have also brought back the extremely popular People’s Choice award – so popular that it almost overloaded our email server during the first week of voting! As with every year, 2015 has not been without its challenges for our industry, but what is clear is that we are a resilient bunch, and continue meet the challenges head on. Some of the finalists’ backgrounds are a strong testament to this. While these awards do recognise some of the very best work our industry does, it should also be acknowledged that there will always be many more unrecognised heroes in our industry, who, day in and day out help improve the wellness and lives of the Kiwis they touch. So tonight is your night to recognise your success, acknowledge your peers, and above all to collectively celebrate the exercise industry together. - Congratulations to everyone here tonight!

The awards have a number of categories for both individuals and facilities that operate in the exercise industry, as well as special awards for those outside the industry showing a commitment to health and wellness through exercise. With the exception of three special awards and the People’s Choice Award, all other awards are based on an application process that is reviewed by a judging panel, with finalists pre-announced, and winners announced at this event.
about the awards
The Exercise Industry Awards are an annual event, which started in 2005, recognising excellence in the exercise and fitness industry. The awards are run by the Exercise Association of New Zealand, and judged by a panel of independent, international judges.
From the outset, the awards were recognised by the industry registration body the New Zealand Register of Exercise Professionals (or REPs). As the awards are about recognising the best in our industry, any award category for an exercise professional or exercise facility has as the criteria that the person/facility must be registered with REPs. Over a dozen different organisations are involved in sponsoring and supporting the awards, from the category sponsors, through the to AV team that put together the display for the awards evening. These organisations are acknowledged on the last page of this handbook.

Conflicts Policy All judges are of world class standard, and many are well connected to the New Zealand exercise industry. This means they may have existing dealings with some of the award applicants. All judges therefore follow a strict conflicts policy, and do not make decisions related to any award entries where an applicant has a significant involvement with the judge. Not all the judges involved are listed here. There are many others who work behind the scenes in a variety of supporting roles. ExerciseNZ thank them for their efforts.

What Personal Trainers say about the Catch Fitness 20 Week Challenge:
Kate Lugtigheid
Personal Trainer at Pumped
An absolutely fabulous thing to be part of… in 4 years we have trained 120 people for this challenge and have had some incredible results and life changing stories! It keeps your clients on track over winter and is excellent if they have an edge of competitiveness in them... … thrilling, educational, and inspiring for both entrants and PTs alike. A wonderful process for building and marketing your business, and for reminding you what you are about and what you go to ‘work’ for. I would highly recommend it to all PTs.
