February 2022 at Loch Lloyd Country Club

Page 1

Dear Member, Super Bowl LVI is fast approaching and it looks like our Kansas City Chiefs could be returning to the big game on Sunday, February 13th. When planning your “tailgate” party, check out the Club’s Super Bowl To-Go menu, loaded with game-day favorites like pizza, wings, sliders and chili! We hope you enjoy a fantastic Valentine celebration with loved ones. Our creative culinary team has planned an exceptional dining experience on Valentine’s Day — Monday, February 14th. See our menu in this newsletter and please reserve your table early. Although cabin fever abounds, it’s a short month and spring will be here before you know it. We look forward to warmer weather and more daylight hours to spend on the course and on the courts.

Go Chiefs!

As the Golf Operations team settles into February, the behind-the-scenes work to prepare for 2022 is in full swing. The team is working diligently on calendars, booklets, flyers and all of the documents that you see throughout the year. The annual Golf Event Guide is almost complete. As in year’s past, we will email a copy to you. The Event Guide includes the golf calendar and specific event details for each of Loch Lloyd’s golf events. This is a great tool for you to have all of the information you need at your fingertips. You will also be emailed a Club Information Guide, packed with relevant information such as email addresses, phone numbers, operational hours, etc. Both of these publications will be in your in-boxes by mid-February. Enjoy the month of February wherever you are. Stay safe, healthy and warm! The Masters countdown has begun … 66 days and counting (depending on when you are reading this)! See you on the first tee, Sean

World Handicap System is Approaching “In-Season”

The WHS will soon return to “in-season” mode which means you may begin posting all scores either in the Golf Shop or online, starting the 1st of March. We will remain in the active season through December 31st, 2022.

FEBRUARY HOURS OF OPERATION Golf Shop: 9a to 5p Practice Facility: Tuesday-Sunday 9a to 4:30p FIRST TEE TIMES Tee times will begin one hour after the Golf Shop opens, weather permitting

One question I frequently get asked about handicapping is, “Should I post this score?” The answer, in any case, is yes! You should absolutely post each and every score played in medal play or match play formats. The handicap system works best and in the intended manner in which it was created when each player posts every score. When you only post “the good scores,” your handicap is artificially low. This will make it nearly impossible to play “to your handicap” in addition to making yourself the partner that no one would want to play with in a competition. When you post scores that are higher than you actually achieved (giving you an artificially higher handicap), this makes you a “well-known” member for all the wrong reasons. This also causes you to lose your golf mates quickly! We ask that all members post each and every score from your rounds. Nine-hole scores can and should be posted as well. Should you have questions on the handicap system, or need assistance in utilizing the handicap system, please contact the Golf Professionals.

Demo Days are Near!

We are excited to announce that we are scheduling Demo Days for this spring. This is a great opportunity to test out the new equipment available for 2022 before you make your new club purchases for the season. Sales representatives from many of the major manufacturers will be on site at our Practice Facility to showcase their new equipment. Once we have all of the dates scheduled, we will send an email announcing those dates to you.

Winter has officially arrived, bringing multiple snow events in early January. The temperature on December 31st was 63°, compared to the low temperature of 9° on January 1st! This 54° swing exemplifies the tale of the two months. The average high this past December was 55° (15° above the historical average) with January’s average high at about 38° (only 3° above the historical average).

Fairway Sod Work

Prior to the ground freezing, dormant Zoysia sod was installed in weak fairway areas throughout the golf course. This sod was repurposed from the remaining turf on the back practice tee. After the completion of the fairway sod work, the back practice tee was stripped and prepped for sod to be laid in the spring. GRANT SUDERMAN SUPERINTENDENT

Tree Work

We have conducted a tree assessment on the property to evaluate all trees in maintained areas. The majority of trees scheduled for removal are located grants@lochlloyd.com outside the cart path in maintained native areas. Less than 10 trees are inside the cart path in rough areas. These trees have been labeled for removal due to dead, decaying or undesired attributes. Many of these removals also possess safety hazards including dead wood and/or hollow qualities. Follow the GCM team on Twitter! Please check us out at @LochLloydGCM

Tarped Areas: #9 Dormie North Green and #1 Green Tee

The recently seeded Dormie north green and #1 green tee will remain tarped throughout the winter months. The tarp raises the canopy temperature of the turf and protects from winter desiccation. Prior to freezing temperatures, multiple cuts were performed on these newly seeded areas.

MOWING THE NEWLY SEEDED #9 DORMIE NORTH GREEN

Native Clean-Up

The GCM team will continue to clear overgrown native areas surrounding the golf course. Clearing and maintaining these native areas and creek banks will showcase the natural beauty of the property and aid in air movement for healthier turf.

Stay warm and stay safe!
