CURRICULUM VITAE Ek Thongprasert (a collaboration between Ek Thongprasert and Pasama Sanpatchayapong) is a new menswear and contemporary women and jewelry brand. Ek Thongprasert graduated at the Fashion Department of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. The brand’s image stands for a poetic and conceptual classical collection for both menswear and accessory.

ABOUT THE COLLECTION What is “precious”? Looking at any tangible object, what makes you consider something “precious”? What kind of quality would connect it to our pre-perception of preciousness? Is it something glittering, shiny, delicate, or with colors relating to precious metal, etc.? This jewelry collection took these questions as the starting point. The collection bases on classical jewelry silhouettes, which refers to precious objects depending on wearer’s historical background, from outline of crown jewel necklaces to simple forms of chains. The work maintains its original silhouette, but discarded any normally expected details. To complete the silhouettes, Ek has designed for the first time a small women collection.

CURRICULUM VITAE Juan Hernandez Daels is an MA Fashion Design graduate of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp. Born in Buenos Aires, Juan grew up in Argentina where he attended the Industrial Design School. At the age of 23 he moved to California to study Photography for a year before moving to Antwerp. During his studies Juan has gained experience at Dries van Noten, Raf Simons and Strip-Denim. His designs have also seen him reach the finals of The Arts of Fashion (San Francisco) and the IFF Perfume Award.

ABOUT THE COLLECTION The collection is inspired by the 70’s psychedelic pop image of David Bowie and Iggy Pop, mixed with elements of the movie Blade Runner and it’s art deco image. The collection is divided into organic and geometrical silhouettes, representing the two opposites of replicas and humans from the film. “I’m constantly attracted to the perfect fit, whether it be a tailored jacket or a sexy catsuit. Color balance plays an important role in my images as well as geometrical prints. Actually... geometry in general.”

CURRICULUM VITAE hui-hui stands for a notion of astonishment, a draft of fresh air, creativity and outspoken prints. The label is investigating the borderlines between art and fashion, between the coincidence and the intended. hui-hui was founded in 2002 by Anne Schwätzler, fashion designer, and the sisters Johanna and Katharina Trudzinski, fashion designer and textile designer/artist. All started with no commercial ambition, as a project born out of the love for creation, fashion- and textile. During the years at the different schools, in Belgium and Germany, hui-hui growed with the knowledge and passion of the three designers into a bi-seasonal collection, which is selling in Germany, Japan, the United States, Belgium and France. Each collection from hui-hui has a new approach, with a particular emphasis on textile treatment or a newly discovered technique from old handiwork, a certain printing method or a new aesthetic. The collections are an eclectic mix of the imagination of the three designers with a broad view and curiosity on the world. The collections are entirely produced in Europe.

ABOUT THE COLLECTION JULIAN hui-hui pays a visit to the porcelain workshop. Spotless white and delft- blue, shades of grey, dusty pink and washed out colors. With the guts of a Julian Schnabel and the scissors at hand, the deconstruction starts. Instead of generously spreading oil paint over plates, wallpaper and carpets we model the garments until it’s like rags from the painters atelier. Adverse to the wild eccentricity, a dash of Chanel’s class and timeless elegance collaborates with the reduced aesthetic found in Japanese fabric books: contrasting ribbons, simple patterns and graphic prints.

CURRICULUM VITAE Boris Schipper and Tomas Pedrosa Arques started working together in 1998 under the name Art of Vanity, first as stylists for clubs, music videos and fashion, but later evolving to attending high level private clients. To make a clear distinction from their work for Art of Vanity the Schipper/Arques label was started in Belgium as a prêt-à-porter label in 2008. They showed for the first time in October 2008 during fashion week in Paris.

ABOUT THE COLLECTION The collection for Summer 2010 is inspired by the cultural and religious influences a Southern Louisiana Creole nanny and her superstitions would have on a young socialite born in an affluent, severe family of planters descendants. Family values require her to grow up in a certain way, physically and emotionally, expecting her to wear extremely restrictive shoulder-braces and headpieces to force her in a certain posture. Accepting her faith and her own cultural heritage, she does as her family pleases, but mixes it with her own lifestyle and friends, and she is heavily influenced by the believes, ideas and anxieties of the woman raising her. The collection’s unconventional cut and drape create an interaction between a body that is strained into a desired posture and a certain odd fragile elegance.

He got introduced in the fashion world through Raf Simons, first as a model, later as promotor of his graduation project and a one time co-operation for bags for the Raf Simons label. Next to running his label together with his partner Saartje Vereecke, Michaël Verheyden also works as a curator and scenographer for museums and slowly builds an oeuvre of free work. CURRICULUM VITAE Yuima Nakazato, born in Japan, began his studies in 2001 at the Showa Metropolitan High School in Tokyo. After getting his degree in 2004 he came to Belgium. There, he graduated at the Fashion Department of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp in 2008. His graduate collection Wooden dimension won several awards, including ITS#7 Vertice Award and the BVBA32 (INNOVATION) Award from Ann Demeulemeester. He also won twice the Coccodrillo Award for his shoe line. This line is sponsored by The Esperanza Footwear Institute. He has shown his work at Vitrine in 2007 and 2009, at ITS in Trieste, The Esperanza Institute in Tokyo (Emotion Create Next Emotion) and now at the Showroom Antwerp | Flanders Fashion Institute in Paris.

ABOUT THE COLLECTION The collection is Yuima Nakazato’s first complete collection since his graduation. This season’s theme ASTRONOMY is inspired by the work of the contemporary artist Olafur Eliason and the work of James Turell. The work appeals to perception and the real existence of light, that is usually not considered, is tangible. Shape and line blends into light en vice versa. Furthermore the color and the material express the light from space. Yuima Nakazato applies a new technique ‘Metal knit’, that uses flexible hard metal. Applying this technique, solid plane circles are transformed into 3D clothing and shoes. These experimental elements are the thread through his collection.
