launched in Fall 2012 with the goal of creating a platform for students interested in fashion, beauty, culture, and publishing. Our Fordham-based magazine widens its lens to all the style and art that is New York City. With spring also comes the event that Fordham students dream of all year: Spring Weekend. These eventful days are the prelude to all the summer beholds— music festivals, lazy days on the grass, and endless nights out with friends. Spring Weekend is also the perfect time to take your warm-weather clothes for a test run, and we’re here to give you a little inspiration as you plan your outfits. Celebrate the season with bright colors when you rock out to the Jane Doze and groove to Grouplove. Channel your inner Gatsby and Daisy at the Under the Tent Dance with classic 1920s style. And above all, enjoy this preview issue and in it, all of the beauty that Fordham has to offer. Look for more of these features in our upcoming Spring/Summer issue, coming out in May!

Guys should never shy away from color, and Spring Weekend is no exception. If your wardrobe is normally muted, it’s time to pump up the intensity on your color scheme. Groove your way through the Saturday concert with your favorite band tee in a bright color like royal blue. Pairing it with a favorite menswear trend like brightly colored pants ties it all together and is a fuss-free way to enjoy whatever the April weather brings. Throw on your backwards baseball cap for that laidback vibe that Spring Weekend is all about. Slide into your favorite high-tops so you can dance the day away.

Nothing says warm weather like a pair of denim cutoffs, and Spring Weekend is the perfect time to break them out. Whether it’s your well-worn denim blues or a trendy pair like these patterned shorts, they’re the perfect base layer for the rest of your concert wardrobe. Choose your best graphic crop top in an eye-catching color. Toughen up your fun look with some spiky metallic jewelry and combat boots. Don’t forget your favorite sunglasses-- try a round shape or cat-eye to make your eyewear stand out. If spring weekend throws you a chilly curveball, bundle up in your favorite cozy cardigan.

If you’re looking to make a statement but not willing to sacrifice ease, a romper is the way to go. Rompers make Spring Weekend a breeze, since they have the effortlessness of a dress but the comfort of a pair of shorts. The neon accents on a classic color like this nude tone give you the best of both worlds chromatically. Because of the neutral color, accessories can really go wild! Liven up the look with a colorful belt at the waist. Bright stud earrings are the perfect jewelry to complete the look without overwhelming it. Add a subtle smokey eye for daytime with colors that compliment your outfit. Bring attention to your eyes but keep the main focus on the standout romper. Nod to the understated color of the romper and keep your beauty balanced with a light gloss on your lip. Here we’ve used a blend of greens and browns to accentuate the eye look. For added drama, throw on some mascara and you’re good to go!

The theme for Spring Weekend menswear is a balanced mix of classic and funky. Every guy can rock his favorite button-down, but for Spring Weekend you can kick it into high gear with cool colors and hip patterns. Graphic tees are always an easy pick, and they do all the talking for you. Boys have a world of accessories to choose, from fresh sunglasses to awesome kicks. Backwards, forwards or sideways, a cool hat can change up your entire look. Add any of these to your established wardrobe and you’ve got the perfect spring weekend look.

Don’t shy away from other accessories, boys! Layering casual and cool necklaces and bracelets gives off an earthy vibe that fits the hippie nature of the outdoor concert. Bring the look back from the sixties with a graphic tank that screams twenty-first century. Pair the tank with casual shorts that taper to the leg for a cleaner look. Throw on a flannel for added color and pattern, and you’ve got a bold yet relaxed outfit that works for any aspect of Spring Weekend.

With bright skies and warm weather moving in, your look should go from winter blues to springtime chic. Pack away your smokey eye palette and turn your attention your smile. This year, it’s all about the Bright Lip. This look is super easy and customizable to suit your personality. Feeling fun? Try a bright orangey-red. Feeling downtown edge? Try a fuchsia pink. Feeling brave? Try a yellow-orange. The possibilities are endless. Work it like our model Rachel and go for a bright red for a day out in the sun! Tribal Print Dress Courtesy of Purdy Girl

Getting every sequin and feather in the right place is essential for any 1920s lady. For our gents, straighten your ties and be patient with your dates-- the flapper look is chic but not effortless.

Dressed to Dance A staple of any good party is the music. Even Gatsby knew this fact to be true, so he tailored his parties around the live orchestra that played at his manse every weekend. Go with something lighter if the weather permits. A crisp, beige suit and tie paired with drivers is a great option. You could also opt for a dress shirt with a merino wool cardigan or sweater vest. Always play up the theme with accessories as well. Don’t leave home without your suspenders and newsboy hat. Waltz under the tent knowing that Gatsby would approve. Mysterious and Dapper Gatsby invited fascinating people to his parties because he knew that interesting conversation made for a better time. Skip past the small talk with a dark suit that is sure to leave the crowd speechless. Wear a blue tailored suit with a skinny tie to ensure that you will be the talk of the party. Add a patterned bow-tie to your pants and jacket to add a pop of color for your Under The Tent ensemble. Above: Both Suits, Models’ Own Upper Right:

Dressed like a Daisy

There are many fabulous ways for a gal to bring out her inner Daisy Buchanan. There is no such thing as too much fringe, so try a bright flapper dress. Warm tones like coral, pink, or red stand out in sea of classic black. Accessories are a snap when you can throw on patent leather pumps with each look. If dancing is your first priority, gladiator sandals are the perfect alternative. Leave the make-up to a minimum to make the dress the center of attention. Throw on some light shadow with a touch of silver on the middle of the lid. Finish with mascara, false lashes, and a nude lip. Leave hair down with pieces lightly curled thoughout. Add a headband with feathers or sequins to liven up your hair and get the 1920s roaring again.

Midnight in Paris For those of you daring to be different, a maxi skirt and a beaded top still give the 1920s flapper feel. Mixing and matching will create endless options. Rewearing each piece individually after leaving the Tent will carry the flapper lifestyle into your everyday look. A statement pink skirt can be paired with a neutral top, or go head-to-toe chic in an all-black ensemble. Compliment dark dresses with deep berry or crimson lips and a winged liner to complete a sophisticated and classic look. For twenties hair style, curl hair all around and start pinning to the side with bobby pins, leaving loose ends to frame the face.

Do-It-Yourself Flapper This black fringe dress was made by FCRH student Anna Romagnoli who says, “It felt silly buying an expensive flapper dress, so I decided to make my own. I bought a black slip from a department store and went to a craft store for sequins and fringe. Then I spaced out the fringe around the slip, and added a strip of sequins to the neckline. I’ve worn the dress at least three times since making it, and it’s yet to let me down.” The look can be recreated in a variety of different ways: from switching up the colors to playing around with texture, you can have a unique dress that’s all your own. Finish off the look with your finest pearls and you’ll be ready to dance the Charleston like a seasoned pro. Black Fringe Dress Courtesy of Anna Romagnoli, FCRH 2015
