Autumn and/or Indian Summer?

Autumn, the year’s last colour fullest smile

Autumn and/or Indian Summer? A September to remember. An October full of splendour. Summer holiday is only a faint memory as it is back to school and into our daily routine. However, is autumn really to dawn by September or will a glorious Indian Summer await us? Think autumn and images of wellies, thick jumpers and hot chocolate come to mind. But as unpredictable October rain is, so is the shopping behaviour of nowadays consumers. If the weather allows it, September is a great month to squeeze in a last-minute BBQ party. The themes of this issue turn the perils of September and October into an asset instead, following the trends in home design and fashion. Powerful pastels look amazing with heavy knitwear, woolly throws and comfortable cushions and an absolute must-have colour for beautiful late summer weddings.

HOUSEPLANT OF THE MONTH FOR SEPTEMBER

PURE GREEN

ALOCASIA Care tips for consumers • Wrapping up the plants in the cold months will keep them in good condition for their journey home. • Alocasias are native to the tropical regions of Asia and Australia and prefer similar warm and humid conditions at home. • Put them in well-lit areas but avoid full sun to prevent sunburn. • Their optimal temperature is between 18 – 22 °C, do not let the plants get too cold. • Water regularly with lukewarm water, prevent the soil from drying out completely. • Alocasias love a good spray with a plant sprayer or a generous shower in summer rain. • Add plant food twice a month throughout the growing season and once a month during winter when it is dormant.

The cleansing properties of plants have been promoted widely and have become the number 1 reason for buying one. Different plants have been researched and analysed for their air cleansing benefits by NASA. An Indian researcher (Kamal Meattle) has spent the last 15 years researching the advantages of plants in daily life. This year, FleuraMetz has supported student company ‘Bruno s.c’ in the development of the Botanic meeting room. Educating consumers about the benefits of plants and flowers is a great way to appeal and connect with them.

FLOWER OF THE MONTH FOR OCTOBER CHRYSANT In certain European countries, including Belgium, chrysanthemums are often used to put on graves, especially on All Saints and All Souls’ Day. Nowadays, we see more and more chrysanthemums used in everyday flowers and arrangements thanks to their long vase-life and wide selection in colours and varieties. In China, the chrysanthemum is the symbol of prosperity. The flower is also the symbol of the Imperial Seal of Japan. The country has named its highest order, The Supreme Order of the Chrysanthemum after the flower. The name is derived from the Ancient Greek: ‘chrysos’ meaning gold and ‘-anthemon’ meaning flower.

Tenderall

‘There is nothing as strong as tenderness, and nothing as tender as true strength’

This quote captivates the true embodiment of our Tenderall collection. A strong colour trend based on pastels that is still very now by spring 2018. The colourful flowers and plants are empowering and so are the textures of their foliage and shape. The days that pastels were only seen as feminine are long gone. Modern day pastels are for all. This collection gives you the freedom to combine sweet flowers in different soft shades. By adding plants in nude and robust pots it will give you that typical, muted look. Fast foward to 2018: Did you know that next year’s pastels will be applied from a tech perspective? FLOWERS: Phalaenopsis Manila, Carnation (Dianthus) Viper, Asparagus, Gentiana Blue Sky, Astrantia white, rose Grey Knights, anthurium Summer Love, Lisianthus Alissa Apricot, Germini Hanna, rose Rosemary.

The Gems There are little gems all around us that can hold glimmers of inspiration – Richelle Mead –

720 C The rich colours and shapes of gemstones are our inspiration for this collection. A collection that often includes more expensive items but are worth every penny. Some consumers prefer to buy less but spend more on a single, exquisite piece. That’s also the main thought behind this collection. Have something to cherish, whether it is a stunningly big houseplant or a couple of stems one-of-a-kind flowers.

FLOWERS:Rose Menta, Asparagus setaceus, lily Longwood, Vanda sunanda Pink Sprinkles, Leontopodium Silver Euro, rose Roxy, lily Peppard Gold (new variety, unfortunately not fully available to offer our customers just yet. However, we didn’t want to keep this exquisite newcomer from you either), Asparagus Meyers, hydrangea Glowing Alps Classic, Nerine white, rose Milima+

7513 C Dotted around the vase, which is filled with rose Menta, Serruria Florida (Blushing Bride) and more, are ornamental fruits called cucumis. Small, diamond shaped vases facing different directions are perfect for holding beautiful flowers.

The plant in this picture is a Calocephalus. The flowers in the vases are: rose Menta, Leontopodium Silver Euro, Serruria Florida (Blushing Bride)

Newbeez Is it retro, is it bohemian? No, it’s ‘Newbeez’. A collection that matches vintage to Pop-Art colours and shapes but also re-invents the 70’s. In certain set ups, the pots and vases stay neutral letting the boldly coloured flowers or plants set the tone. In other designs, it’s an unusually shaped or outspoken coloured pot or vase that gives that typical ‘Newbeez’ feel.

If consumers are looking for something extraordinary or after a gift for a person with character, the ‘Newbeez’ is your go-to collection. Elements of the bohemian/vintage trend are still found in the ‘Newbeez’ theme for autumn 2017.
