PLANNING
WEDDING PLANNING where do we go from here ? First Things First The first step in planning the perfect wedding is to get a good idea of your budget. There is nothing worse than falling in love with an idea you can’t afford. Often family members love to chip in by paying for something special. The photographer, catering, or maybe even the bar! If you think someone would like to help you, gently ask and see what they are willing to do. Once you have all the numbers together, it’s time to get the party started!
Looking for something that will show off your individual style? Need ideas? Head to a Bridal Show, and go to www.NuovoBride.com to find the best of the best. Next, make appointments to view venues, be on time and have your questions ready. You will know the right venue when you find it! Once you have decided on your venue, many of your decisions will fall easily into place. For example, venues often accommodate a certain number of people, which determines your
do not wait to reserve a location; venues book a year or more in advance. The Top 3 Things Have a candid discussion with your fiancé to determine what the three most important things are that you both want included in your wedding. It could be a sit down dinner, 200 on your guest list, an open bar, a top notch DJ, or any number of things. Once you are on the same page, make sure you budget accordingly. It will become easier to cut back in other places if needed. (Guest count will impact your budget more than anything else.)
One of a Kind The first vendors you will want to book are the “one of a kinds.” For example, a venue may only have one wedding a day, the officiant, the photographer, and DJ can only be in one place at a time. So book these first. Caterers, bakers and rentals can follow.
guest count. They may have preferred vendor lists and have availability only on certain dates. Do not wait to reserve the location; venues book a year or more in advance.
Checklists and Timelines Get a copy of Nuovo Bride’s summer planner and get to work. The pages can be put into your binder and they have everything you need to plan the perfect wedding. Your calendar is your friend. Break up all the tasks you need to accomplish and assign days for you to get them done. You will be amazed how easily things will come together when you break it up. If it all seems too much for you, hire a planner. They are worth their weight in gold and can often save you a fortune. They know the vendors who deliver, every time and take all the guesswork out of making your day perfect!

PLANNING
VENDOR MEETINGS catering
...
the basics
In the first meeting with the caterer, you need to determine if there is a good fit for what you are looking for and to get a feel for pricing. Avoid a detailed menu discussion and concentrate on the feeling you want to create. Pricing methods differ from caterer to caterer. For some a buffet might be more cost effective, others it could be a seated dinner. Talk to them about the four basic food presentation options: seated, buffet, stations, and cocktail service.
Seated The classic seated meal features several served courses, and it's usually preceded by a cocktail hour. Wedding traditions such as the formal presentation of the married couple are most fluidly incorporated into this format. Service costs are highest for a seated meal, however food costs are generally lower.
Buffet For a buffet meal, most caterers will supply staff to serve at the buffet table. If your guest list exceeds 50, your caterer should set up duplicate buffet tables. If not, your guests will end up waiting in long lines.
Station The station reception features several food areas, each with a theme, and gives guests choices. A meatcarving station that includes roasted potatoes and Caesar salad might be offered at one, while fresh pasta is available at another. If you choose this style of service, plan on at least three stations, plus one for dessert.
Cocktail Reception At a cocktail reception, hors d'oeuvres are passed and often served at stations. This allows the most time for mingling, but is not well suited to a traditional wedding with all the rituals.

Buffet style.
Making A Plan Some caterers offer a tasting that allows you to sample dishes on their menu. Anyone who helps pay for the reception should have initial input, but only the couple need to attend the tasting. Make a plan with your caterer, list everything that will happen from the time they arrive until the last glass is packed away. Decide on a serving time for each course, as well as a start and end time for the party. Make sure they are flexible, incase something interferes with the timeline.
Pricing Most caterers estimate food costs per person, which can range from $25 to $100 or more for a seated dinner, plus add the approximate cost for the staff, rentals, beverages and cake. Be sure to ask what exactly is included.
Staffing & Tipping Ask about staff overtime charges, taxes, and gratuities. If your caterer does not add a gratuity, keep in mind that for an eighthour event the average staff person might get a tip of $30 to $50. The event coordinator would get more. Also, some companies charge a per-person fee for slicing any cake they do not provide.
Contracts Get everything in writing. Most caterers will ask you to sign a letter of agreement or contract. This contract should be very specific, detailing everything from the exact menu to the total charges for rentals and staff.
Begin your happily ever after with us! All in one trendy modern location ... or choose to have your ceremony on beautiful Venice Beach.
Ceremony & Reception • Rehearsal Dinner Welcome Reception • Guest Room Rates
The Bar If your venue allows you to purchase your own alcohol, do it. It can save you hundreds of dollars. Request a shopping list from your caterer based on the number of guests or go to www.FrugalMacDoogal.net to get all the information you need.
One Last Tip Ask your caterer to pack food for you for after the wedding. A boxed meal will be quite welcomed when it's two in the morning and you realize you've been so busy greeting guests you haven't eaten a thing all day.

WEDDING
THE DRESS finding the perfect look You’re engaged, congratulations! Now the fun begins. It may seem to be a bit daunting at times, but nothing solid organization can’t over come. After you set your budget, one of the first things you will want to do is buy your wedding gown. This will set the tone of everything else you do! When you dream of your wedding gown how do you see yourself ? On the beach at sunset in a softly flowing gown? In your parents backyard in a short dress and flowers in your hair? Or in a beautiful ball gown and cathedral veil with a bevy of attendants surrounding you? Whatever the picture in your head, think about contacting a professional bridal
appropriate. Do bring pictures of styles that you think you would like. This type bodice, that kind of train, lots of lace, but try to keep an open mind as to the exact style. You may find that the gown you love in a magazine is not the fit for your body type. There is a reason the designer chooses that model to wear that dress; because she looks beautiful in it. You want to find the dress that makes you feel just as beautiful! Your bridal consultant will assist you in choosing 4-5 gowns to try. At this first appointment you will definitely want to try a few different styles. Look for things that have elements of current trends. 3D laser cut lace and pearls are really in right now. Ball gowns
when you dream of your wedding gown how do you see yourself consultant, they can easily help you achieve the perfect look. While shopping online might seem enticing, we recommend buying from a local store with quality seamstresses. If anything goes amiss, you will have someone right there to help you overcome any difficulty. Have an idea of what appeals to you. Read Nuovo Bride Magazine and spend a bit of time on-line picking styles you like. Then call your local bridal boutique to make an appointment. Pick a day and time that you will be able to relax and enjoy the experience. Bring your Mom or a close friend. Don’t bring your entire family or bridal party and definitely leave the kids at home. Too many opinions will cloud your judgment and spoil the “AHH” moment of seeing how beautiful you look when you step up to the mirror. Don’t expect to take photos in every dress you try. It is not
are also popular. Very simple dresses with architectural elements can be a great look for the bride seeking something special without all the bling! If you focus on trying your top 4 or 5 gowns and not everything in the stor, you will not become so overwhelmed that you find it impossible to make a choice. Once you narrow your choices down try them on again. The dress should speak to you. You (and Mom) may have a tear or two. But don’t be surprised if you react a little differently. Some brides giggle or can’t stop looking at themselves. Everyone definitely wants to keep their dress on! So this is the dress! Now you will want to look for accessories. Your consultant will show you how different veils can change your look. A well trained consultant will be able to give you plenty of advice on how to make your look flawless!

the ultimate wedding dress checklist 1. Get Inspired Read magazines, go online, to find the styles that you love and think will best suit your personality.
2. Go Shopping Bring a good friend or family member. It is not a good idea to bring the entourage. That will can make things confusing and unpleasant. Be open minded. If you are at a reputable dress salon, they often know what type of dress will look great on you.
3. Order Your Dress Stay away from buying online. You may think you are saving money, but when it comes to alterations, or any problems you want someone locally to go to. We have heard so many horror stories, we highly recommend you buy locally.
4. Accessories Your veil, shoes, jewelry, maybe a belt, all put together the look. Try on different veils to find just the right look.
5. Fittings Be sure to wear the proper undergarments to your fittings. Also bring the shoes you will be wearing that day. These details will ensure a proper fit. You want to look your best so be prepared!
6. What's old, what's new? Have you decided to stick with tradition and incorporate it into your gown? Something old represents continuity; something new offers optimism for the future; something borrowed symbolizes borrowed happiness; something blue stands for purity, love, and fidelity.
7. Mary Poppins' Bag Kim Frazer, Owner of The Perfect Settings in Sarasota has been a wedding and event designer for more years than she wants to admit. Kim brings her "Mary Poppins" bag to every wedding she plans. The bag, as the name implies, has everything in it. If Kim isn't planning your wedding, think about your own bag. Include, needle and thread, safety pins (incase your bustle doesn't bustle,) peroxide, band-aids, TUMS, breath mints, scissors, body tape, hair spray, deodorant, bobby pins and if you are a bridezilla, prosaic.

TIMELESS & FL make up trends to consider
Bold brows frame your face.
Getting your makeup look just right on your big day can be a challenge for any bride. You want to ensure that any imperfections are covered, but at the same time you don’t want your makeup to look heavy or ‘caked on.’ You want to feel comfortable standing face to face with your groom but also look good in pictures, having found the boundary between beautiful and stage makeup. Plus you want your guests to recognize you!
Brow Beautiful A well tamed brow will frame your face beautifully and also make your eyes look bigger. But beware! The eyebrows should play a supporting role in the show called your face! Don’t let your brows become too “on fleek” and become the focal point of your face. Also, don’t get your eyebrows waxed too close to the wedding day. The wax sometimes will leave you red and blotchy. An alternative to waxing is

threading which is more precise and accurate and will leave you will a more chiseled brow. Tip: A good brow shape is essential, so go to a professional!
Lips Wear a neutral shade of lipstick for the ceremony and then enhance your look in the evening with a lovely red lip stick. Amp up your look for evening with a beautiful red lip color. Not as scary as it sounds, the two toned lip showcases the top two shades in bridal lip wear, red and neutral.
Timeless Eyes When picking your style, choose something that is timeless like a nude colored smokey eye. Tip: Avoid any trends that are too severe. You want to look back at your wedding photos and see YOU, not the trend.

90's eyeliner is back and better than ever!
Sunset Eyes The color pallet used for sunset eyes works well on most skin tones. Ask your make-up artist to use pastel colors with lots of blush to create the ideal glowing effect. Tip: A sunset palette looks amazing on most skin tones.
90’s Liner From wedding dresses, to hair trends and now make-up, Michele Rene The Studio is creating a more relaxed look at weddings and at the bridal fashion shows. The emphasis is on soft, romantic styles and the revival of 90’s eyeliner is extremely fitting, and is a universal look. Apply water proof eyeliner along and underneath the lash line then blend with a cotton bud to achieve this smokey, dreamy look. Tip: A soft romantic look paired with a strong 90's eyeliner on trend.
Lash it up for eyes that "smize".
A Hint of Glitter Possibly one of the biggest bridal make up trends ever; brides can’t get enough of metallic and sparkle. For a twinkle in your eye, use glitter eyeliner or apply a slick of clear lip-gloss along the eyelid and carefully add some glitter. Perfect for brides, that want to shine all night. Tip: Add some subtle glamour to your look with a metallic eye shadow.
Lash it Up Brides love huge eyelashes, and we are all about applying eyelashes for a dramatic look that lasts all day and night. Eyelashes are the new standard for this decade. Eyelashes will open your eyes and bring more attentions to the windows of your soul! Lashes are great for “smizing” as Tyra Banks would say!

ASK THE CATERER questions to ask when interviewing your caterer
If champagne isn't your thing, choose a wine that pairs with your cake.
A lot of factors come into play when selecting a caterer, so don’t be afraid to ask as many questions as you need to. You can refer to the following list, whether your potential caterer works at your event facility or you’re hiring them independently.
The Basics • Do you have my date open? • How many weddings do you do per year? • How long have you been in business? • Have you done events at my location? • Will you provide a banquet manager to coordinate the meal service or an on-site coordinator who will run the entire event?
• Are you licensed by the state of Florida? Are you licensed to serve alcohol? • Can you assist with other aspects of the wedding like selecting other vendors, event design?
Food & Presentation • Given my budget, guest count and event style, what food choices would you recommend? Do you specialize in certain cuisines? • Do we have to work off a preset menu or can you create a custom menu for our event? • If I have a special dish I’d like served, would you accommodate that? • Do you offer event packages or is everything à la carte? What exactly do your packages include?
N
www.nuovobride.com
23
RECEPTION
It's all in the presentation!
• Do you use all fresh produce, meat, fish, etc.? • Can you accommodate dietary restrictions, such as kosher, vegan, gluten free etc.? • What décor do you provide for appetizer stations or buffet tables? • Do you offer package upgrades such as gelato stations, ice sculptures, cappuccino machines or specialty displays?
• Do you do food tastings and is there an extra charge for this? • Do you handle rental equipment such as tables, chairs, etc.? • What types of linens, glassware, plates and flatware do you provide?
• What’s the difference in cost between passed appetizers and appetizer stations? What’s the price difference between a buffet and a sit-down meal? If we have a buffet, are there any stations that cost extra, like a carving station?
NOTE: Some low-budget caterers have basic packages that use disposable dinnerware instead of the real thing, so make sure you know exactly what you’ll be getting.
• How much do you charge for children’s meals? • How much do you charge for vendor meals? • Do you offer wedding cakes? If so, is this included in the per-person meal price or is it extra? • Can you show me photos of cakes you’ve made in the past?
N
• If we use an outside cake designer, do you charge a cake-cutting fee?
• Can you do theme menus (e.g. barbecue, luau, etc.)? Would you also provide the décor?
TIP: Don’t automatically assume that a buffet is going to be the less expensive option. Ask your caterer which type of service is more affordable, given the menu you’re planning.
24 Nuovo Bride
• If I decide not to serve cake, can you provide a dessert display instead?
• Can you provide presentation upgrades such as chair covers, lounge furniture, Chiavari chairs, etc.? What would be the additional fees? • What is your policy on cleanup? TIP: Be very clear about what “cleanup” means and who’s responsible for handling it—and be sure to get it in writing. In most cases, when you rent a location it will be YOUR responsibility to leave the place in acceptable condition. You want to spend your wedding night with your honey, not picking up empty bottles from the lawn!
RECEPTION
• If there is leftover food from my event, can we have it wrapped up for guests to take home or have it delivered to a local shelter?
Drink • Do you provide alcoholic beverages and bartenders? Can you accommodate specialty cocktails? • What brands of alcohol will be served? • Can we provide the alcohol? • If we provide the alcohol, can you provide the bar labor? • Do you charge a corkage fee if we provide our own wine or champagne? • How do you charge for alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages? Per consumption or per person? Which is more cost-effective? • Is the champagne toast after the ceremony included in your meal packages or is it extra? • Will your staff serve the wine with dinner? • How long will alcohol be served? • Is coffee and tea service included with the per-person meal charge? • What brands of each do you offer and do they include decaf and herbal tea options?
Business • What is the ratio of servers to guests? • How is your pricing broken down? NOTE: Usually tax and a service charge are tacked on to your final cost. The service charge, which can range 18–23%, is used to tip the staff. Ask how much of the tip do the wait staff actually get? • How much time do you require for setting up and breaking down my event, and are there extra fees for this? • If my event runs longer than contracted, what are your overtime fees? • What is the last date by which I can give you a final guaranteed guest count? • What is your payment policy? Credit cards accepted? • How much of a deposit is required to hold my date? When is the final payment due? • Are there any fees that won’t be included in the proposal that we should be aware of? • Once we book with you, how quickly can we expect a contract? And if we make changes to menu choices or other items, will you update us with a revised estimate and contract? • What is your refund or cancellation policy? • Can you provide a list of recent references?

INSPIRED RECEPTIONS the perfect pairings
Any foodie would agree that catering is an integral part of any wedding reception and can be as important than the décor and festivities! Wedding reception dining styles are now as distinctive as the tastes of each bride and groom. Many couples go to their caterer with the request to offer their guests a one of a kind reception, something exciting and memorable. When you visualize your wedding reception offerings, what style do you see? A cocktail reception with small bites and lavish displays scattered throughout the reception area? Perhaps you are thinking of a casual buffet style with multiple offerings to please a diverse crowd? Maybe you're considering a more traditional seated and served dinner with a three-course meal? You don’t necessarily have to choose only one serving style. How about mixing up the service styles to incorporate some innovative ways of serving delicious menu selections? If you prefer cocktail reception style without the seated meal, it’s fun to offer a combination of passed hors d’oeuvres, beautiful displays and Chef ’s action stations. This allows guests to move around the reception sampling small plates at their leisure. Colorful, delicious displays of antipasto, artisan breads and cheeses, and grilled vegetables entice your guests. For a heavier hors d’oeuvres wedding reception, consider offering small plate stations. One station might offer a variety of individually plated appetizers and salads. The next station could showcase a full presentation of an entrée (on a smaller scale) such as a braised short rib over Gorgonzola polenta dressed

Dessert action stations could feature crepes flambé prepared upon request, while across the room your guests might enjoy displays of assorted mini desserts such as Key lime tarts, chocolate truffles and caramel macadamia tortes. Wine pairing stations introduce the perfect marriage of food and wine. For instance: you could pair a light Pinot Grigio with Diver scallops, a robust Cabernet with baby lamb chops, and a Riesling to compliment the desserts. You may want to have a seated and served dinner but don’t care to offer entrée choices for your guests to preselect. Rather than offer a duet plate, offer separate courses. In the style of a wine pairing dinner, each course is paired with a wine that is, as perfectly matched, as the bride and groom. This opens up the opportunity for the bride, groom or a member of the bridal party to start each course with a toast and introduction of the wine and menu item paired with it. This is a great way to remain engaged with your guests during a seated dinner. Feasting Tables offer a family style way to share a delicious meal. Beautifully prepared abundant platters, with a variety of entrees and side dishes are passed down long rectangular tables. You might want to have a more formal start to bring everyone to the dinner table with a plated salad, followed a variety of entrees served family style. Dessert and coffee stations encourage the guests to get up and get closer to the dance floor after dinner.

THE HONEYM turks and caicos; a dream honeymoon destination

Looking for a fabulous idea for your honeymoon? How about the Turks and Caicos? They have everything a couple in love could desire. We visited and loved every moment. Let me tell you all about it! Providenciales, nicknamed “Provo,” is the most popular destination in the Turks and Caicos island chain. We stayed at a resort called Villa del Mar, across the street from Grace Bay Beach which Condé Nast Traveller has called the best beach in the world (Spoiler Alert: All of the beaches in Turks and Caicos are the best!) Here are 5 reasons why Turks and Caicos could be your dream honeymoon spot:
1. Gorgeous Beaches The water is a perfect aqua blue, and that perfect blue water laps onto a white sand shore stretching on
forever. Everywhere you go there are friendly people offering you a towel or a cabana or a drink. Romance Tip: take a walk down the beach facing directly west at sunset. You may see a green flash of light as the sun goes down, which is pretty amazing.
2. Everything Is “Easy" Provo has a charmingly sleepy vibe. Everyone takes time to relax and enjoy life, which is a nice change from the rush and pressure of daily routine. Where better to bask in your newly-wedded bliss than in a world where the clock ticks a little slower? You are on your honeymoon in the Caribbean to escape the fast pace of your everyday life, right? Sit back and enjoy it. Another easy thing about Turks and Caicos: It’s an English-speaking country where the US dollar is the official currency. Let’s just take a moment to appreciate

how amazing that is! The voltage is also the same as in the US, which means there are no annoying outlet converters to (forget to) pack. It takes very little time to get there, and direct flights leave daily from Tampa.
3. The Weather The temperature is in the 80s year round and it rarely rains. Also, according to the Turks and Caicos Tourism Board, hurricanes usually pass north or south of the islands without making impact. If that’s true, this place is truly paradise.
4. Beyond the Beach If you insist on “being adventurous,” there are plenty of activities to do. Snorkeling and scuba diving are two of the most popular activities in T&C because, as mentioned, the waters are stunning. You can easily book a diving tour or rent gear and explore for yourself.
Experience their culture and delicious food.
For some indoor time with your new spouse, there are spas at many of the resorts to help take your relaxation to the next level. Two casinos reside on the island if you want to try your luck with a portion of wedding cash. Like to people watch? Local Irish pub Danny Buoy’s has Karaoke on Tuesdays!
5. Thursday Night Fish Fry Every Thursday night in Provo, there is a fish fry in a park along the beach. With tents from local restaurants and vendors, live music, dancing, drinks, crafts by local artist, and delicious grilled lobster for only $18, the Fish Fry is a fun way to immerse yourselves in local culture. So what do you think? Book a flight! The islands are awaiting you!
