Budget Q&A 6

common budget questions answered words : beth winkle

While Florida's off-season provides the best venue pricing, be prepared with a "plan B" for weather hiccups.

1. My parents and future in-laws are contributing financially. Do they get a say in how I spend? Yes. Some parents will be hands-off, but others -- rightly so -- will want to be involved in their investment. A few tips on working with Mom and Pop:

4. Is it more expensive to get married in Florida tourist season?

• If your parents are springing for the entire day, ask which parts they’d like to oversee, and present them with your top-three choices of vendors for each. Walk them through the pluses and minuses, and explain why you’re leaning toward a certain vendor.

It sure is. As brides compete for venues and vendors, wedding pros raise prices. Holding your event during the off-season months could save up to 50 percent on the very same reception venue. Another money-saver: Skip Saturday dates in favor of Friday nights or Sunday mornings. Rates are often discounted.

• In the event that parents are contributing a set amount, write a note early on thanking them and letting them know how their gift will be used.

5. If a vendor delivers something totally different from what was agreed upon, can I get my money back?

2. Our relatives haven’t offered to help us pay for the wedding. Is it OK to ask them for money? Certainly! Here’s how: • Gather photos you’re using for inspiration and any vendor estimates you’ve received. • With your fiance, sit down with your families separately and show them the type of wedding you are hoping to have. Broach the subject of finances: Explain how much you and your fiance can afford and the amount you think your dream wedding will cost. Then, in a gracious and nonthreatening tone, ask whether your families would consider paying for a specific aspect of the wedding, such as the flowers or the cake, instead of purchasing a gift for the two of you. 3. My in-laws can’t afford to contribute as much as my parents. How do I handle this situation? Arrange a dinner with all of the parents together. Beforehand, speak with your families individually about whether they might underwrite parts of the wedding and the financial constraints,

N

if any, of the other couple. At dinner, talk through who will contribute what. (Note that contributions don’t necessarily have to involve a price tag.)

6 Nuovo Bride 7

Maybe, but probably not. Here’s how to protect yourself: • Before signing on the dotted line with any service provider, read the contract carefully. There are some vendors, such as caterers and florists, who include wording like “subject to availability” or “vendor reserves the right to substitute goods or services comparable to those listed in the contract if said items are not made available.” • Include a clause in the contract that spells out an acceptable alternative plan and mandates that you be notified of any changes before the wedding. 6. Should I get wedding insurance? If you’re spending a pretty penny, wedding insurance is smart. It covers you when something goes awry, a damaged dress or a flooded venue, for example. Policies range from about $100 to $1,300 and can be purchased online from WedSafe (www.wedsafe.com) and Travelers (www.protectmywedding.com). Coverage is generally capped at $175,000. Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co. Special Events, (www.firemansfund.com) even offers change-of-heart coverage and counseling.

CHoosing THE DATE a few things every couple should consider when picking the right day Deciding when to hold the greatest day of your life is one of the hardest parts of wedding planning. For you, the future bride, picking one specific date out of the entire 365 day, 12 month calendar, leaves you too many options, making you feel frustrated and anxious. After all, this is your perfect wedding day, and the last thing you want is choosing the wrong date that would later affect all the other preparations. While there really is no best date to get married, (it really depends on which dates are important to you) there are some specific guidelines to keep in mind.

Holidays and Major Events Ask yourself “Would your guests rather be somewhere else?” Like watching the Super Bowl or have Thanksgiving with their families. Consider that the travels plans could be more expensive during a Holiday. Consider the cost of flowers and venues will be higher during a Holiday. Flowers the weekend before and after, Easter, Valentine's Day and Mother’s Day are always more expensive due to demand.

Seasons and Mother Nature Take advantage of Mother Nature’s cycles and plan according to your taste. Any of the four seasons will create a beautiful backdrop and theme for your wedding day. but still keep in mind of typical weather patterns like rainy season and heavy snow fall. The best weather forecaster is The Farmers Almanac, this book will show you the weather history on your wedding date.

8 Nuovo Bride 9

Religious Dates Check the dates to see if it has any religious significance that might prevent guests from coming to your wedding. Certain dates also prohibit people from traveling, eating specific foods, such as fasting during Lenten season.

Peak Prices There are certain geographic areas that have peak seasons. Watch for theses area, Hotel rooms, car rentals and even venue rental fees could be elevated. Be sure to inquire with your wedding planner about local peak seasons.

Special Dates Having the wedding on a date that holds special meaning to you and your fiance can be very romantic. These dates can include, first date, your first kiss, your parents or grandparents anniversaries, the list is endless. Relating your wedding to a special date helps your spouse and family from forgetting your special day. Always remember that your wedding is all about you and the people you love. So ultimately, the date that makes you the happiest is the Perfect day for your wedding day.

Organized bride THE

the key to wedding planning from the editors of nuovo bride magazine Since you got engaged I bet it feels like eons away to the wedding day. No matter how long or short the engagement is, it takes every bit of your organizational skills to pull off the perfect wedding. Whether you are the type who wants to handle every detail or the kind of person who trusts their wedding planner or vendors to make it happen, there is still much to do. Either way, the first step is to develop your personal system to pull off one of the biggest days in your life. The key to wedding planning is simple, it is organization! Here are some tips to help get a handle on it.

The Planner This can be a date book, calendar or specialized keepsake wedding planner. It will be the most valuable tool in your arsenal. Start by penciling in your wedding date in the calendar. (One rule I always follow is to use a pencil. Things change, so a pencil is always the way to go.) Once the big day is down in writing everything else starts to fall into place. To properly pull off a fabulous wedding on Florida’s West Coast, it is best to have at least a full year for planning. This will not only reduce stress, but will give you more choices for venues and vendors.

Wedding Planning Checklist Now that you have an idea of the monthly breakdown of tasks, schedule them in pencil into your date book under your "to do's". This will ensure that you stick to a schedule and reduce the chances of overlooking any major details.

Photo by Sadie & Kyle Photography Have the groom "organize his boys."

Pick a Day to work on it The easiest way to get a big job done is to attack it in small pieces. If you plan the same day and time every week to work on the details you will be well on your way.

Accordion Folders Pick up an accordion folder. You can keep everything from wedding dress ideas to your vendor contracts in it. Create a slot for each category you want. By keeping all the paper in one place you are less likely to lose that vendor contract when you need it. Again, the key to wedding planning is simple organization.

Get the Groom Involved Start his first “grocery list.” You need give the groom a clear direction on what it is he needs to accomplish. Then sit back and let it happen. A good choice to start with: wedding transportation options. Have your fiancé figure out what kind of transportation is needed and when. Another great choice for the groom to be responsible for is making sure the best man and his groomsmen are totally organized for wedding day. There is more to do than getting the groomsmen fitted for tuxedos. They all will need to know where to be, when to be there and whether they're required to make a toast, dance, escort people, among other things. Have him organize the “boys.” TIP: Trust him to get it right! Make sure he has a full task list, then let him do the work. By keeping on top of the details, you can enjoy the wedding planning process; keep yourself organized, save time and have no worries about misplaced contracts, overlooked details or missed appointments.

fabulous fall decor ideas for planning your autumn wedding words : jaclyn smither

Pumpkins make great centerpieces.

Metallic spray paint adds a little glam.

Autumn is our favorite time of the year at Nuovo Bride Magazine and a glorious time for weddings on Florida’s West Coast. The air is crisp with the weather change, making it one of the more ideal seasons for an outdoor wedding. Colors start bursting into the forefront with the leaves changing, giving you an abundance of color palettes. Burgundy, deep reds, plum, golds, burnt orange, deep peach and of course, an earthy green or dark teal. The choices and ideas to decorate can go on into infinity! This time of year opens up a wide variety of venues you can now choose from.

it. The month of October is already full of goblins, ghosts, witches, carved pumpkins, candied apples, draped gossamer and webbing. With proper decor, a Halloween themed wedding can be exciting, glitzy, beautiful and very cost effective. Think floating candles that hang from the ceiling just like in the Great Hall at Hogwarts. Let your guests fill up a trick or treat bag full of goodies from your candy station. Beautifully carved pumpkins can serve as your vases for earthy floral arrangements and centerpieces. Think pumpkin flavors. From the cake to the adult beverages, the possibilities are endless.

A Halloween themed wedding may sound a bit off the wall, but is perfect for couples that adore

The question remains‌ how can you avoid making this fall theme overwhelming, tacky, or too

Edison lights create soft, warm lighting at The Barn at Chapel Creek.

much like a Halloween party? The answer is to remember that autumn doesn’t have to be all pumpkins and gourds! Don’t overdo it. Strategically placed décor can really make an impact. There are plenty of reasonably priced flowers available at this time of year that beautifully reflect the look of autumn. Add some wheat stalks to your florals. Edison lights are a great way to give off a warm, soft glow. Harvest fruits, like berries and apples can be used to create one of a kind votives. Leaves can be both scattered as an aisle runner and used as place cards and table numbers. Think, miniature lanterns or mason jars for drinks that have a name card attached with a twine bow. Acorns, pinecones and mini tree stumps can be decorated and cut to hold cards or placed as center pieces. For the ambitious DIY bride, metallic and glitter spray paint can go a long way, whether it’s on mason jar vases or metallic pumpkin center pieces, it will add that little bit of glitz that will turn your fall wedding from “harvest festival” into a show stopping, glamorous event. Let your imagination run wild! Remember, there are no wrong choices … after all, it is your day!

the floral facts ways to draw inspiration for your bouquets

Gardenia Bloom.

Anemone Lily.

It’s true: We’ve come a long way from the days when brides carried bouquets down the aisle to ward off evil spirits (yes, that’s how the tradition started). Though some trends have blossomed and others have wilted, one thing remains true: Flowers are a great way to make a highly personal statement, whether it’s a bloom’s more abstract Victorian meaning or just that it comes in your favorite color. Here are six easy ways to draw inspiration for your bouquets.

with a new edict, men began courting ladies not with love letters or serenades but with bouquets -- and soon a lady receiving coral-color roses knew her suitor was expressing the first signs of desire, while a young maiden receiving a dainty cluster of violets might blush at the notion that her secret admirer had expressed his faithfulness to her. Learn the meanings of these popular wedding flowers and incorporate a little bit of history into your wedding day.

Channel History Ever wonder why many brides carry stephanotis in their wedding bouquets (besides the fact that the flowers are so unique and gorgeous)? These creamy, star-shape florets carry a symbolic meaning of happiness in marriage. Says who, you ask? Many such floral traditions are rooted in the conservative Victorian era, when every flower was given a symbolic meaning so that men could express their sentiments without words. Armed

Here are a few of our favorites to get you started: • Lily of the Valley = Happiness • Calla Lily = Beauty • Freesia =Innocence • Gardenia = Joy • Orchid = Love • Lilac = First Signs of Love • Anemone = Expectation

Berries add just the right touch.

Color-Code It Choosing colorful flowers that match your wedding palette is an obvious way to personalize your bouquet. But just because you’ve picked a pretty green-and-purple combo for your wedding doesn’t mean your flowers need to scream eggplant! Colorful adornments from ribbons, fabric, beads and baubles will make any bouquet meaningful. Try doing as the Romans did in times of celebration and add stalks of herbs to your bouquet, such as sweet-scented, pale purple lavender. Or take a bundle of typical white wedding blooms, like stephanotis or calla lilies, and tie the bouquet with a green wrap secured with a purple snap or button.

Check Backgrounds Flowers can speak louder than vows -- in all the pictures, at least. Another way to personalize is to choose flowers that match your personalities or are expressive of your backgrounds and beliefs. For instance, you may choose to give a nod to his Norwegian heritage by including purple heather, Norway’s signature flower, in your bouquet and on the guys’ boutonnieres. Or you might pair your birth-month blooms like lily of the valley with chrysanthemum, because he was born in May and you in November. Is your bedroom always awash in your favorite bloom, tulips? Include these (you’ll find them mainly in three popular varieties: French, Dutch, and Parrot, though there are 3,000 varieties) in your bouquet. Did he propose while you were road-tripping in Georgia? Consider carrying a nosegay of peach-hued roses.

Keep It In The Family Delve into your own family history and elevate the personal factor of your bouquet. Give your wedding flowers a homegrown flair by picking peonies from your mother’s garden; or you may choose to carry a cluster of white French tulips because your mother did so, as did her mother and her mother’s mother. There are also less obvious

N

16 Nuovo Bride 17

ways to incorporate familial elements into your bouquet: Wrap the stems of your flowers in your favorite fabric topped off with your grandmother’s vintage hat pin, or create a bouquet wrap from an heirloom silk scarf. (Remember though, fabrics may be damaged by water and pins). Consider threading a relative’s pearls around soft rose petals to add sophistication to your wedding; or simply your the florist to take silk ribbons monogrammed with both of your initials and loop them through the bouquet.

Remember To Remember Keeping in sync with your fiance and your bridesmaids will help you pick personalized flowers. Start by recalling a favorite date that you and your fiance had. Was it the time you enjoyed an afternoon picnic in the park and he brought along a bouquet of your favorite flower, daffodils, to commemorate the occasion? Consider carrying these blooms down the aisle. Or maybe he brought you daisies for your first date? Make sure your bouquet is bursting with them. Is his favorite eau de toilet that you wear lavender scented? Ask your florist to incorporate sprigs of sweetscented lavender into your bouquet and onto his boutonniere. You might even ask your attendants what their favorite flowers are so you could include each of their favorites into your own arrangement.

Use Your Environment Gather inspiration from the everyday elements around you. Some fresh takes: Dress a bouquet with faux freshwater pearls because you’re marrying at the beach, or dot your arrangement with small fruits for a touch of spring (we love kumquats, lemons, even cherries). Is your fall fete taking place in a botanical garden of sorts? A motif like butterflies might be an appropriate thread for your details -- let ceramic or fabric ones peek out from behind the flower petals as a nod to the season. We’ve planted the seed, you’ll need to take it from here.

finding venue

the perfect Photo by Alyssa Shrock Photography

step - by - step guide to finding the right venue words : kim frazer

Finding the perfect venue is a dream come true!

Ever since you were a little girl, you have dreamed about your perfect wedding. Maybe it was a little white chapel or maybe it was the beach, but you wanted the location to be PERFECT. Some people plan their entire day around that perfect place, while others start with a blank canvas. Either way, choosing your venue is one of the most important decisions you’ll make while planning your wedding. When deciding on your venue, you need to take into consideration that you might need two locations: one for the ceremony and one for the reception. For some couples, a church is the most popular place for the ceremony. Therefore, this leads you to an important decision: does the church have a facility large enough for the reception, and do they have any restrictions that will prohibit your specific plans on your perfect day? Issues like hours of use,

alcohol, and schedule of church functions may vary from venue to venue. If restrictions or scheduling conflicts are present, then you will need to find a separate location for the reception. If you want a civil wedding service, the ceremony and reception can take place at one location. When considering a location, you will need to take into account several issues: • Budget. Everyone has one! You need to consider how much you are willing to spend on the location. This is a huge portion of the day and it needs to be perfect! • How many guests? If they are coming from out of town, how far is the drive or the location that they will be lodging? • What is the capacity of the venue? This will determine if there is space to accommodate the number of guest you want.

N

www.nuovobride.com

17

• Climate. If the venue is outside, what is the backup plan for inclement weather? • What type of catering. Do you want a seated meal or a stand up passed. A seated meal or hors d'oeuvres will obviously take up more space than the passed service. Therefore, the time of day will determine the best food service that will accommodate your guest. • Entertainment. Do you want live music or a Disc Jockey? A band will take up more space, so in a tight space a DJ will let you be more efficient with your area. Also check out the sound ordinances. Time constraints will also help you determine the type of entertainment that you may want to use.

Hotel weddings. Hotels are probably the most convenient of all of the locations. They usually have several options of rooms or even outdoor settings. Hotels have a staff that will accommodate every need you have, from catering to personal assistance for planning. Your guests can stay on location and have shuttle services to airports or for sight seeing. Barns and local outdoor spaces. These types of venues are great. You have more control over catering, ambiance of setting, and alcohol use. Theses types of venues could be on the pricier side if they do not have a backup plan for inclement weather.

N

• Staffing. Will there be a “go to” person all day, is there staffing for clean up? Is the staff experienced and professional? • Venue Facilities. Know the restrictions to certain areas on site such as handicap capabilities, first aid assistance, and the number of restrooms and adaptability to your needs.

Some people plan their entire day around that perfect place, while others start with a blank canvas. Either way, choosing your venue is one of the most important decisions you’ll make while planning your wedding.

Historic homes or buildings. Typically the most sought after venue, these facilities are most likely managed by local government offices and will have restrictions. They are usually the places that are most desirable. If you decide on a historic location, get your deposit in at least a year in advance. If a Saturday is not so important to you, the charge for renting a historic location can be less on a weekday or Sunday.

18 Nuovo Bride 19

• Fees. Check to see if there are additional catering fees and corkage fees. Check the drink prices, cake cutting fee and any overtime fees.

Not only will you need to address those other aspects of your wedding to determine a location, but the type of venue will also take effect as well:

Before you sign the contract on the perfect location, please review the following checklist, and always make sure you ask questions and read the small print!

• What is included in your rental of the location? Tables, chairs, linens, and even glassware are provided in most popular venues. • How much work are you willing to put into The Perfect Wedding? Your location can dictate this. There are companies in every city that go into your venue and set everything up without you lifting a finger. Consider this in your budget.

• Venue Restrictions. Double check the sound ordinances that are monitored by the local government. Set up times, place and time restrictions for the arrival of the bridal party. What time does the catering and decor staff have to be out? Can deliveries be made the day before and pick up the day after? Also ask for a mandatory list of approved vendors and even use of candles. Make this day the happiest day ever! The Perfect Venue is a start! Then make sure you have hired the best vendors that will make your day stress free. Look to your local networking groups, publications and wedding shows to help you. On the following pages, we have compiled some of the best venues in the area. They all have their own "feel", so set an appointment and find your perfect venue.

While fall weddings in Florida don’t exactly encompass the cool, crisp climate and rainbow of changing leaves of more northern celebrations, they can still embrace the color palette and overall feel of the season. One way to do so is through the menu. Even in our steamy state, traditional autumnal produce is at its peak. And, after a long hot summer, what better way to get people in the mood for the cooler temperatures to come than with hearty fall cuisine.

Hors d’oeuvres & Starters During cocktail hour, offer a seasonal beverage, such as warm cranberry cider with a cinnamon stick. If it is still 80 degrees in November, put a twist on the idea by serving a hard cider over ice. For passed hors d’oeuvres, try fig & prosciutto flatbread, sweet potato chips served with a warm blue cheese drizzle and brie baked in puff pastry with walnuts and cranberries. Once seated, instead of going with a traditional house salad, serve a salad with baby spinach, pumpkin seeds, blue cheese, apples and pomegranate vinaigrette. Or, opt for not serving a salad and serve soup instead. Wedding guests won’t be able to resist creamy curried pumpkin soup served in hollowed-out and roasted miniature pumpkins.

The Entrée Ah, the entrée. Though there are so many other parts to a meal, particularly at such a special event as a wedding, the entrée is where the meal is centered. Most weddings tend to have similar menus, with chicken and filet and salmon. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with the usual entrée choices, the season lends itself to trying something different and adventurous. An appealing alternative to chicken: rosemary roasted Cornish hen with cornbread and cranberry stuffing and grilled zucchini. Pork also works well in the fall. Try with an apple-mustard glaze, a baked sweet potato and roasted red cabbage. In lieu of serving plain potatoes on a buffet, offer a mashed sweet potato bar and have available toppings such as brown sugar, walnuts, honey and marshmallows for guests to layer in plastic martini glasses. Are there vegetarians among your guests? Butternut squash ravioli served atop wilted spinach and covered in sage mascarpone cream is divine. Whenever and wherever your wedding is, when it comes to the menu, the most important thing to remember is that it is your day. Serve what you want to eat, and don’t be afraid to make it fun.

FAll love in

the many flavors of autumn cakes

WORDS: ALLA LEVIN

Rustic cupcake display by Cakes by Ron.

Feeling adventurous? Try Pumpkin cupakes!

Gone are the days of all white wedding cakes with plastic toppers and cookie-cutter adornments. Today, more than ever, couples are choosing cakes that represent their journey in life. From the very eccentric to the time-honored traditional, modernday wedding cakes are anything but blasé.

An experienced cake designer will rarely advocate flavors that won’t work well together or a recipe that will ultimately taste dry and uninspired. Be sure to discuss your dream creation in detail with your designer and be open to fall-themed suggestions.

For most of us, autumn brings to mind beautiful visions of falling leaves, cool breezes, harvest festivals and a potpourri of spicy flavors and treats. This delightful backdrop creates the perfect palette for a most memorable wedding, and certainly an inspirational setting for a sensational wedding cake.

A great cake always begins with a beautiful base color tone. Dark chocolate, tangerine, chestnut, carrot orange, cedar, ember glow and antique white are lovely choices. This year some of the more popular orders have included flavors such as:

A well-skilled baker/decorator can reproduce just about any theme you can imagine. Autumn accents like leaves, mums, daisies, apples, acorns and pheasant feathers can often be recreated in into edible additions using sugar paste, chocolates and fondants. One should never assume just because a cake is beautiful to look at, that it can’t be flavorful as well. Certainly, you want your cake creation to “wow” your guests with its beauty and detail, but your goal should include pleasing their taste buds.

Spice Cake Wonderfully aromatic with cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and maple, filled with cream cheese

Chocolate Hazelnut Torte Chocolate cream cake flavored with intense Spice rum, filled with Chocolate and Roasted Hazelnut ganache filling Consider staging your cake with themed décor. Although typical fall celebrations may be plentiful

with pumpkins, terra cotta and darker tones, a wedding doesn’t necessarily have to follow suit. Pears, pomegranates, grapes and wheat bundles work well as background elements and give great pops of color. At the end of the day, this is your wedding and your taste should reign supreme. Jewel tones and gold accents are still in fashion and are complementary to the season. If your favorite color is associated more with spring than fall, ask your cake designer to pair it with a chocolate or cappuccino tone for seasonal balance. Another trend gaining momentum this season is the dessert table. Impressive towers of iced cookies, zesty candies, cinnamon sticks, chocolate dipped fruits and mini-cupcakes add a delicious spin on a traditional wedding presentation. These tables aren’t usually intended to replace the cake. However, a well-executed color scheme can certainly turn these tasty delights into accessories for the main attraction. When considering a dessert table, talk to your cake designer about creating themed treats. For example, if your fall wedding is based on a harvest theme, you may choose desserts with the shapes, colors and textures of the harvest season. Red apples, caramel-pecan candies, lemon tarts, orange zingers, pumpkin poppers and chestnut bites are delightful ways to set the stage and bring clarity to your overall vision. Trust me; your guests will adore your extra efforts and devour these delicious little additions!

the after party a few things every couple should consider when picking the right day words : clare o ' brien When the clock strikes twelve, it’s time to turn it up the heat. According to celeb wedding and party planner Lynn McGee owner of concept BAIT, the hottest trend in weddings today is the after-hours, after party. The last dance doesn't have to mean the party is over. If you are one who refuses to let the good times end, an after-hours game plan is essential. Consider it another chance to impress your guests with surprising details and personal touches. The best thing about an after-party is that there really are no rules – it’s all up to you.

Location Be sure the location is convenient for your guests. The first option is simple. Call the bar at the hotel where most out-of-town guests are staying. Ask how late the bar stays open and give an estimate of the time you and your guests will arrive. Ask about the crowd at that time of night. Will you need to reserve an area? Will you have the place to yourself? You’ll want to speak with a manager to make sure you have all the details nailed down. Another good choice is to check with the hotel to see if you can rent a smaller room -- or even a suite, if your guest list is small. Be sure to contact the hotel manager to check about late-night noise levels. A great idea with local flair is to hop on one of the Trolleys and take your guests on a Pub Crawl. You are allowed to bring both food and drinks, so pack a late night snack, and bring a cooler or keg. Bars are open until 2 a.m.

N

46 Nuovo Bride 47

Invite Right Traditional wedding etiquette does not apply for the after party. There are generally no formal invitations, but everyone should feel welcome to join the festivities. The rule of thumb is if they're invited to the reception, they should be invited to the after-party. Even though you know most of your guests won't be up for partying after the reception, they still need to feel welcome.

Vary the Décor If your reception was more formal, give out leis and serve tropical cocktails. If you had big band music at the reception, go with '80’s favorites for the after-party. If you had a casual outdoor ceremony and reception, treat your guests to a Latin-themed after-party, complete with salsa band, mojito bar, and cigars rolled to order. McGee says, “Wow them once again with unexpected décor. A South Beach style ‘Ultra Lounge’ is totally in. You can easily transform any space with white draping, blue lighting, safari sofas, an ice-bar and some foliage.” McGee recently had guests walk the red carpet from the reception area into an ultra chic, ultra lounge. His idea was to go with something that was totally different from the reception and using the red carpet, he moved the guests from one space into another with excitement and style.

What to Wear Nothing says diva like an outfit change. It’s time for something shorter, something more dance friendly. Think hip. Keep it a shade of white, keep it lacy and keep it bridal.

The Money Thing Open bar is always appreciated but not always necessary. If you've rented a room or a suite, yes, open bar is essential. If you've rented a private space at a bar, it's a generous, appropriate gesture. If it's a less formal, let's-hit-this-bar type of event, it's not necessary.

Music is a Must A skilled DJ can bring an energy and flow that an iPod simply cannot. If you had a DJ at the reception, you might be able to get a good deal for your late night party. If you can’t swing the DJ put together a fabulous playlist for your phone and make sure you have great speakers.

Going Home Plan to arrange for transportation for any guests who have had too much to drink. If the venue is not within walking distance, consider booking a shuttle to get guests around safely, or hire a few cabs to wait outside when the party is over.

the honeymoo ireland

...

the romance of the emerald island words : beth winkle

The Cliffs of Moher | Clare, Ireland

Trinity College | Dublin, Ireland

You’ve found love. You’re getting married and your honeymoon has to be a perfect celebration of that love. You’re a romantic at heart and are looking for a magical place you’ll remember the rest of your lives.

Whether you are in search of your ancestors, historic treasures, or more current entertainment, Dublin, with its elegant Georgian architecture is legendary. From the boozy delights of the Guinness Storehouse and the music and fun in the Temple Bar, to the more cultured nights at the theatre, it's no surprise that people from all over the world come to enjoy the "craic."

Ireland, just like you, is a country rich with tales of love and romance, a country full of hopeless romantics. You can stay in luxury, Irish castles and cottages, getaway to the countryside of Connemara, enjoy the craic in Dublin and discover the wistful scenery of Ireland. You will fall in love with the warmth and hospitality of the Irish. We recommend you start your trip by flying into Dublin. Try to arrive in the morning, rent a car (with a GPS) and head downtown to The Fitz William Hotel. It is a chic baronial modern hotel uniquely positioned on St. Stephen's Green, just steps from Ireland's premier shopping location, Grafton Street. You’ll be tempted to head out and explore, but first take a two-hour nap, it will help you get accustomed to the time change right from the start.

While you maybe tempted to pub hop forever in Dublin, head west to Galway. Galway is a young city at heart. The people are so warm and friendly. You’ll love strolling along the quaint streets of Galway City. There are hundreds of shops and restaurants to enjoy. Try “Ard Bia at Nimmos.” It is down by the Spanish arch. I had one of the best meals of my life there. The owner paired the perfect wines with each course. It was fabulous! If you are looking for a special token to remember your honeymoon, try on one of the famous claddaugh (pronounced clah-dah) rings. The rings symbolize

friendship, the heart, love and the crown loyalty. The best place to go is Faller’s jewelry store, owned by the Faller family since 1879. The shop is located on Galway’s Williamsgate Street.

overlooking its famous salmon fishery, with a backdrop of the beautiful 12 Bens Mountain range. It is the perfect base for walking in Connemara, fishing or just relaxing in comfort and style. The rooms are simply gorgeous, the meals outstanding and the service second to none. You’ll never want to leave.

Ireland is a great place for a road trip. There is a surprise around every corner. Take the Connemara Loop, it is breathtaking journey of ever changing landscape of majestic mountains, spectacular beaches, the wild Atlantic, mist covered lakes, pre-historic bogs and shady glens. A landscape peppered with quaint but lively villages where all the convenience of the modern day is available alongside an opportunity to step back in time to a more relaxed and friendly era. Situated in the heart of Connemara is the Ballynahinch Castle Hotel. It is one of the finest 4 star luxury castle hotels in Ireland. It is set in a private 450-acre estate of woodland, rivers and walks. This luxury, yet unpretentious Castle Hotel stands proudly

After touring Ireland, you’ll be heading back to Dublin where it all began. Check into the 5 Star Westin Hotel for unparalleled luxury in one their “Heavenly Beds.” It is on its own city block just opposite Trinity College where you will find the Book of Kells (a must see for everyone.) It is in the perfect location to explore Ireland’s capital city one last time. There is so much to see and do in Ireland your honeymoon could go on for forever. But after visiting Ireland and with the luck of the Irish now on your side, your honeymoon is sure to never end.
