ATTENTION
lorida Trail Riders has had to make very unusual and difficult decision in the last month in regards to the Covid 19. As the uncertainty and the safety of our membership were at stake with the Covid 19 and the fact that nobody knew if the counties would allow the events to take place, the decision to close the season was our only option. We also decided to move the banquet a couple weeks later to August 1st, same location and same hotel. Again, thinking there could be a chance that the convention center could be forced to cancel events during June and July, we had a weekend open in August that would give us about another three weeks. All of these changes were discussed and decided on by the Executive Committee with great regard for the betterment and safety of our membership. The NCTR club, even though they were ready to go with an awesome course, agreed that it was the best decision. I know the amount of time and effort it takes to promote one of our H/S events and to have to pull the plug on the race a week before the event is just devastating to say the least! I felt terrible about even talking about it with Rob, their club president. I will say that he understood and agreed that it was the only thing to as nobody knew what was going to happen and if the county would show up Friday or Saturday and shut us down like they did with the Day in the Dirt event in Dade City the week before. As I write this in April, we still don’t know how long we will be in the “Stay at Home” mode but everyone needs to stay calm and do the best we can under these extreme circumstances. Randy

he old saying “In a blink of an eye” sure holds true with our organization as our series is pretty much done and the class champions are being named. I have had the pleasure of getting to know the first row of racers on Saturday commonly known as the fast kids, the next up and coming kids and the Mini A kids. It brings back memories of my days with another young man that is well on his way to becoming a force to be reckoned with in the XC2 class at the GNCC. All of these young men that race these 85’s have a lot of talent and know how to twist the grip as every race there is always a battle. I am very proud of all of these boys as each and every one of them shows determination, heart and true sportsmanship. Kudos to all of their parents that have instilled the respect, courage and discipline it takes to compete and to be a positive productive person in today’s world, job well done Mom and Dad! While they are here to have fun, race their dirt bike and get away from the pressures of school, they also have a very competitive side. As I watch them line up for practice, I get a lot of fist pumps and smiles from these youngins as they get ready to do their lap. Race time comes and it’s on as the smiles go away and things get real serious. All of these boys want to win but at the same time they are having a ball riding their dirt bike just like we all do on Sunday. The smile and fist pumps when they come through the checkered flag lap is heartwarming and brings a big smile to my face as I know they all give 110% . These are
memories that they and their parents will always remember and cherish as they will grow up fast, just like my rider did back a few years ago as it happens in a blink of an eye! To my entire Mini A racers and their parents, savor these moments and continue to be the best you can be, you all are on the right track! Thanks for listening, Randy Faul

FLORIDA TRAIL RIDERS etty and I just heard Governor DeSantis’ statewide “safe at home” order. All of us are to remain at home except for essentials for the next 30 days due to the COVID-19 Virus. Welcome to the new normal… These times are challenging and for some a little scary. Maybe you have found yourself asking, “God, are You still there?... Are You really in control?” The prophet Isaiah asked the same questions when the people were facing an overpowering enemy army. God responded, “ So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand (Isaiah 41:10). For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. (Isaiah 41:13). David was known as a man after God’s own heart. As he was literally running for his life, he wrote, “The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1
Jesus gives His promise of safety when the world is falling apart. In John 14:27 Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. So is God still there and in control? Yes, Yes, Yes!!!!!!! He will bring us through victoriously and in doing so, bring us closer to Him. We are his children and He will take care of us. So take that peace from Jesus and do not be afraid! Betty and I are praying for all of our FTR family. Be safe and we will see you next season! Blessings on and off the road, Jim and Betty Edleston CMA

y name is Joshua Guffey, I’ve been racing dirt bikes most of my life. I started racing motocross when I was five. I had the opportunity to go to all of the biggest amateur nationals for many years. In that time, I won two national championships. I started racing FTR and GNCC in 2019. I was surprised at how much I really enjoyed racing off-road. I’ve had a lot of help learning the ropes of off-road racing working with Tom Fleming. We were blessed to get to know Tom, when I was racing motocross and he has really guided me on my journey into the off-road scene. I’ve worked with Robb Beams, with Moto-E, as my trainer for seven years. I have gained a ton of valuable information from him. He trained Charlie Mullins and some other great GNCC racers. He also worked with many great motocross racers. I acquired my fascination of the way the human body works and the fitness necessities of motorcycle racing from Robb. Unfortunately, at round one of the GNCC series at Big Buck I dislocated my shoulder which ended up needing surgery. I was going to have a lot of time on my hands as I recovered from my surgery, so I decided to take the Moto-E certification to be a weight loss and physical fitness specialist. I have had many people ask me to help them either lose weight or get into better shape. This is what inspired me to start Joshua Guffey Fitness. I’ve been able to see great results in the people that I have worked with. It is so rewarding for me, to see their hard work pay off. I prepare their meal plan and weekly workout schedule. My clients log their sleep, water intake, and heart rate on a daily basis. This data really helps me tailor their program to their bodies specific needs. None of my clients are on the same program simply because the same program doesn’t work for everybody. My program for weight loss is designed so a client can continue to enjoy eating healthy foods, without feeling hungry. It’s amazing how your body will stop craving sugary, unhealthy foods when they are properly fueling with healthy, nutrient dense foods. When I send my client’s their meal plans they are surprised about the calories they should
10 www.floridatrailriders.org
be eating. Most actually have to increase their caloric intake, in order to start losing weight! Proper fueling also plays a big role in getting a full night of quality sleep. We are currently experiencing something that none of us have ever been through…. being quarantined. There are several things you can do to try and improve your health, while being stuck at home. I always recommend turning off the news. It is very important not to let yourself get depressed. Stress eating can definitely sabotage ones’ efforts to eat healthy. Try and get outside for at least an hour, every day. The vitamin D that the sun provides as well as the fresh air, will rejuvenate you. Of course, maintain your social distancing! Walking, biking, or playing in the yard with the kids or dogs can really keep the blues away! The great thing about my program, there is no need for a gym if there’s not one available. Right now, everything is shut down and a lot of people are using the excuse that the gym is closed. The best things you can do to boost your immune system and stay healthy is eat healthy and exercise. Get out of the house and go for a walk or jog around the block. It will be one of the best things you can do for yourself and your family during these crazy times. You can still do your part of social distancing while you’re out walking or hiking trails. Just stay 6 feet away. Please contact me for any questions about my program or just any questions that you may have! We will get through these trying times and be back racing in no time. But for now, do your best to keep you and your family healthy and safe!

MOTO HEROES With all the craziness that is going on in this world right now with the Novel ( New Strain) Coronavirus, Covid19, taking control of every ones lives, FTR members are doing what FTR members do best; finding a way to pitch in and help. If you want to spotlight anyone that is giving their all to support our communities let us know about them. Send info to ftrmagazine@ dekmar3d.com. Thank you to all of our members that are helping fight this pandemic in a big or small way. I know it's hard for an off-road rider to sit still but take it from me, working for the Florida DOH, you don't want any part of this virus. Master B racer, Joe Carrasquillo traded in working with upholstery for PPE face shields. On Facebook he said "First 20 PPE face shields delivered this morning to a local agency. Now, the real work starts. Another agency ordered 450. Precision Upholstery keeping our first responders a little more safe."
Silver Master B racer Mike Veach is a Lieutenant for Tampa Fire Rescue. Mike has some tips for our current situation. "Maintain your social distancing, wear a mask if you have a cough to protect others and stay home. If you have chest pain call 91. If you or a family member have unexplained right or left side weakness or numbness or blurry vision call 911.. time matters."
Your FTR Magazine editor is doing his part working the Covid-19 Mobile test sites in Sarasota County. Every little bit helps.
Womens A racer Amber Trapnell is wearing the uniform of a Covid-19 warrior. Amber has been a RN at St.Joeseph's Hospital in Tampa since February of this year.
That's Red Bull KTM's Marvin Musquin delivery goggles and treats to Tampa General Hospital and yes that's every ones favorite FTR first responder Donny Richardson in his element.
FTR's first responders, Danita and Levic Allen are on the fronts lines of this battle. "Currently, in central Florida, our ER volumes are way down. People are actually staying home as requested. Many of our ER nurses are being temporarily furloughed until the volumes pick back up. My new normal is to walk into the ER with everything covered, including my face and hair. I also have to keep my badge and a letter from the hospital with me when I am traveling to and from work to prove that I'm "essential". When we care for suspected Covid patients we then add a gown and gloves. The news reports are true. Our PPE is being rationed and we are having to reuse PPE. The community has outdone themselves showing us support. We receive food almost daily, which is incredible. What's changed for the patients is that they can only have one visitor in the ER and no visitors at all if they are admitted. This is to try to decrease contamination." Levic is seen here fully garbed in PPE as he transports a Covid patient.
FTR Legend, Jerry Curtis showed up big to support #gogglesfordocs at Central Florida Powersports. CFTR is playing a big part in gathering, prepping, packaging, and shipping new and used goggles to hospitals in need of PPE eye protection. Give them a call to see how you can get involved.

FLORIDA TRAIL RIDERS FTR FAMILY COMES THROUGH ur Hog Waller race was quite the adventure. It was our son's (Wade Reece) first race of his first season and we were so ready...or so we thought. We get to Hog Waller after a three hour drive from Vero Beach, get camp set up and eventually settle in for the evening and as I'm laying in bed thinking about everything we had I realized there was one thing I didn't remember seeing the whole time we've been there. I wake my husband up and asked him if he seen the gear bag and we instantly went into panic mode and we were very disappointed in ourselves there was no gear bag. So i decide before we pack everything up and go home, to send a message out over the FTR facebook page seeing if by chance we could get enough gear round up so he could race his race, and we needed EVERYTHING! By morning we hauled but to every person the reached out and we were able to get jersey, pants, helmet, goggles, boots, and gloves. If it wasn't for the FTR family reaching out (Droff family, Swanbom family, and the Browning family) we would have had a very quiet long ride home. Amanda Reece

This is what the Moto Community is all about. You may not get to talk to everyone at every race or even come close to knowing every racers name but when it's crunch time everyone is there or you. Kudos to the families that made Wade's first racing experience a memorable one.-Editor
AROUND THE PITS What's Stephen been up to? It's been a bit since FTR racer Stephen Schumacher has swung a leg over a dirt bike and entered an event, 20162017 to be exact, but he's been a busy guy. Since his last race Stephen has graduated high school and went of to fire school which he completed with the highest academics. On Oct. 29th, 2019 Stephen landed a job with the Jacksonville Fire Department. On top of all of this, Stephen met Isabela at church about 3 years ago and on March 6th they got Married. Stephens dad, David, said " I sold my bike recently so we are both bike less for now but we aren't done forever. We sure do miss the FTR family and look forward to getting back someday soon." Congratulations Stephen on everything you've accomplished and we look forward to you and your families return to FTR.

s I opened the kitchen door to the garage a site that should not be surprising to see by now was staring right at me. Like a deer caught in headlights, there stood Leon (Rawls Jr.) with a brand new YZ 250 in the back of his truck. My only question was, where is he planning to put it! We have a single garage. It already has a Can-Am Spyder RT, which is pretty be much the same size as VW Bug, and a Custom KTM990SMT. Throw in a couple of garbage cans, ladders, tool boxes, shelves, washer /dryer......well, you get the idea. He found it funny that I also insisted on, at least, a 2 Ft. wide path from the kitchen door to my Tahoe. As I worried about the possibility of losing that 2 Ft. path, I wanted to know where is it was going? Only room left in our garage was in the attic , and I know that ain't happening. I'm thinking he's probably going to hang it from the ceiling on some kind of winch he would reinvent just for that YZ. Surprised that I was home early, immediately the excuses rolled right off his tongue. "I got a good deal....... "It was on sale........ "I have always wanted one." And last but not least, "Don't worry I'll find some place to put it!". Never did I think he actually meant in OUR garage. Most likely he probably talked some poor soul into using part of their garage. Knowing him for nearly 27 years, when he puts something in a spot, other stuff has a tendency to accumulate around it. He pulled out a lawn chair, sat down, and opened a beer. Then he got that look, the thinking look....didn't say much just sat there. In about half an hour he got up and started taking EVERYTHING out of the garage. I disappeared into the house, not even wanting to know what was going to happen. Lo and behold about 4 hours later everything had a "right"spot , as he puts it. All 3 bikes and NO WINCH. I even still had my path from the back door to the Tahoe. The moral to this story is basically this, "Where there's a will, there's a way", or at least a Leon's way, AND never try to sneak a new dirt bike into the garage without your other half knowing! Not if you like living in the same house with her. -Dianna johns

Perfect weather welcomed a huge turn out and every class win, from pee-wee to AA, was hard fought. Scott Gawler Jr was ahead of the social distancing game raced his Seminole Powersports Husky to a solid overall win besting Garrett Edmisten and Cash Jacobs by a comfortable margin. On four wheels, the GNCC ATV boys were in town and they put on a show with Yamaha's Walker Fowler taking the AA Quad overall win finishing just ahead of Hunter Hart and Adam McGill.
