ur season was cut short, but the light can be seen at the end of the tunnel. Things are slowly turning around and opening back up, Croom in particular is now open with season holding passes that allow riders to enter and hopefully things will open up for everyone that wants a day pass. It kind of opened our eyes on how quick something that we take for granted and just assume will be available anytime we want to go, was taken away. With this being said, sometimes FTR is taken for granted and not thought too much about on how much time and effort is devoted to keeping our organization moving forward, staying strong, solid and a force reckoned with in the world of off road competition. I know the clubs and all the volunteers
along with the membership that make the FTR function are patiently waiting on the day we can circle the wagons again. Our plans for our biggest event of the year are coming together and details will be announced soon as the banquet looks to be on schedule. Things are changing and starting to get back to a recognizable platform as it’s going to be time to start following the arrows and hear those famous words of “Ten Seconds”. Be ready, get your memberships up to date, numbers secured and those minor release cards as the season will be starting in just a couple of months. Thanks for listening, Randy Faul

FLORIDA TRAIL RIDERS Families, finances, employment, broken hearts, attitudes, God sees the need and hears our cries. In Isaiah 41:10 God promises, “So Do Not Fear, For I Am With You; Do Not Be Dismayed, For I Am Your God. I Will Strengthen You And Help You; I Will Uphold You With My Righteous Right Hand.” We all see the news and many of us are wondering “It looks like we are falling apart! Is anyone in control?” The answer is a strong and forceful “YES”!!!!! “He (Jesus) will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’[a] or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” (Revelation 21:4)
PHENOMS THEN AND NOW
Please believe that God remains in control. His Holy Spirit is with us calming, assuring and CHANGING our lives, hearts and situations. Don’t give up or give in, "Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord." (Psalm 27:14) He will answer; "Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!" (Isaiah 30:18) In all that is going on around us, just ask Jesus for His peace and He will deliver. In His own words, "Take courage! It is I. Do not be afraid." (Matthew 14:27) Betty and I continue to pray for all of our FTR family. Be safe and we will see you in the fall! Blessings on and off the road, Jim and Betty Edleston CMA Starting Line to Checkered Flag… “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7

his picture brings back lots of memories. At 10 / 11 years of age I was so attuned with the pros of the sport (from a distance). I was very shy so most didn’t notice me but through social media when it first came out I remembered every picture, every race, every new set of gear from every year. It’s not uncommon to see Top GNCC pro’s make their way out to race an FTR event during the winter months. Charlie always made sure to hit a couple every winter. That’s when he quickly became my favorite Pro starting back in 2010 when he was on Yamaha. I remember getting interviewed later that year and stating the one person I’d love to have lunch with was Charlie. With it being public knowledge, my good friend Wanda Kittell knew Charlie and asked him if he’d wake up early on race day morning and take a few pictures with myself and the Tolken brothers. I remember being so nervous but Charlie was so cool about it all. At the end, I even got a signed jersey which was a big bonus. The jersey now is hung up in my room. Fast forward 8 years later I got the opportunity to work with Charlie at his then home in NC. I hitched a ride from the GNCC banquet and Tom met me there with my bike. As the training ended Charlie asked if I had any thoughts or questions. Only thing I could think of was that this was way more than I had dreamed of. I really had only dreamed of having lunch with him and now I have quickly become a family friend. From the time stepping foot into his ridiculously cool memorabilia filled garage to now has just been surreal. It’s crazy to think my biggest dream was to have lunch with Charlie, now it’s kinda….normal? This is in no way bragging as it’s just being in the right place, right time and most importantly sharing that the Pro’s of the sport are just normal humans with normal families and lives.

ey guys, it’s Joshua Guffey here. GNCC racer, FTR racer, Sprint Enduro racer, and the coach for Joshua Guffey Fitness. I really enjoy working with people with weight loss goals. One of the biggest things I have noticed, when I give a new client their program, is how surprised they are that they aren’t going to be starving or working themselves to death in a gnarly boot camp for six weeks. The diet that I put together for clients is a clean eating program, with real organic food. The calorie count targets that I give my clients is the part that usually scares them away and makes them think I am crazy. In our society we have associated “thin” people with people that do not eat much. Therefore, when we think of losing weight, we think of being hungry, doing insane workouts, and not enjoying a minute of it. With my program, you eat real, nutritious food; no processed or powdered foods. If you’re paying for a subscription for powdered shakes, that you don’t even like and leave you feeling tired and hungry, then you are doing it all wrong. I like to encourage a change in the way a person thinks about food. Good, healthy foods are delicious and should be enjoyed. We should use them to fuel our bodies for optimum health. Losing weight isn’t as much about hard workouts like most people think. It’s about 70% diet, 30% workouts. Of course, the workouts are very important, but unless you are fueling your body correctly, you can cancel out all the hard work you did in the workouts. The programs like P90X, Beach Body, and other mainstream weight loss programs are designed to make you lose water weight, fast! That is why people can have success with these programs. However, as soon as you stop the crazy workouts and start eating like you did before, the pounds will come right back. This is mostly the water weight. My program is a much more sensible approach to getting healthy. It’s better for your body and best of all, it is permanent. When you get to your goal weight, whether it’s dropping 20 pounds or 100 pounds, you will have changed your lifestyle and will enjoy the food you eat. The workouts are enjoyable and will make you feel better, not overworked. I personalize each program specifically for each client, around the things they like or dislike. If they like walking more than anything else then I have them walking. If they like biking more then they will bike. No matter what
10 www.floridatrailriders.org
they like to do, they have gotten results. So, you can continue to get the subscription every six months and try to shed some weight off fast and just keep repeating that vicious cycle. Or you can join Joshua Guffey Fitness, and we can make the necessary changes to your lifestyle to get you to lose that unwanted weight and keep it off! Make sure to contact me with your questions and to get started on your personalized program. or thirty plus years, Moose Racing has been a staple in the off road and motocross industries. It was in the mid 1980's that Moose became known their hard parts for the bikes and in 1994 they jumped into the gear scene and now they are on the podium everywhere. For 2020 Moose unveiled the FI Agroid Helmet. They gave me a chance to try one out and I was very happy to have had the opportunity. The helmet was very comfortable with a snug fit and with nine intake and three exhaust vents there was plenty of airflow to make sure you ride with a cool head. One of the features I really look for in a helmet is a wide eye port and this helmet had that for sure. My goggles fit nicely and gave me a nice wide field of vision. The Moose Agroid helmet is equipped with some of the latest features like MIPS technology, a friction hinge visor, removable liner and cheek pads, and a nice, removable, nose guard that provides some roost protection. The Agroid comes in four colorways including the black/iridescent, which is the one I tried. It looks sick in the sun! One of the most important aspects to owning a dirt bike is maintenance. Changing the fluids, replacing filters and tending to the drive components increases the life of your bike and keeps your ride in top competitive shape. Changing dirt bike drive parts requires some finesse. Do not expect a quick turnaround like replacing the oil and oil filter. It can also be difficult to determine when the dirt bike drive parts need replacing. However through experience you'll be able to spot the signs. So, the first thing you should be doing before every ride is a sight check. The last thing you want is a chain breaking right after you've opened up the throttle.
Replace Chain and Sprockets Together If you notice any of the above signs it's time to replace your drive parts. Since all of the components work in unison, it is always best to change them out in sets. The easiest way to check if your chain is worn is to measure the distance between the pins holding the chain together. This would determine if the chain has exceeded its "service limit" for stretch. Your bike's owner's manual explains what the service limit will be. If your chain is worn, then replace the sprockets, and vice versa. The chains and sprockets create a wear pattern with each other. When one component is replaced and not the others, the new component depreciates quicker because of the wear patterns developed on the other parts. The same usually applies to chain rollers and guides. Typically these wear equally and if they go bad the chain can damage some very expensive parts such as the swing arm. When it's time to buy replacement dirt bike drive parts or if you're looking to upgrade you'll need to factor in what type of bike as well as your style of riding and racing. Generally, when upgrading or looking for an advantage focus on gearing changes as well as what type of chain best fits your bike and riding conditions. For some of the other components like the chain slider and guide, upgrading to a higher performing part lengthens the time between replacements and your chain lasts longer. Sprocket Ratio When you're looking to upgrade keep in mind the following depending on what you are trying to accomplish with your bike:
For Faster Acceleration (more bottom end)
•Use a small front sprocket (countershaft) or larger rear sprocket. For every 1 tooth you change on the front, it is the equivalent to changing 3-4 teeth on the rear. •Creates a lower gearing ratio. This is ideal for tight trail riding or tracks without many long straight sections. A lower gear ratio works well for Arenacross opposed to wide open desert racing.
20 www.floridatrailriders.org
For Faster Top Speed (more top end)
•Use a larger front sprocket or smaller rear sprocket. Again, changing the front makes a larger impact to your gearing than changing the rear. •Creates a higher gearing ratio. Higher gearing ratios work well in high speed situations such as desert riding, sandy motocross type tracks or anywhere that doesn't have very many tight turns. As a general rule, for every "tooth" change on the front sprocket you're changing the rear sprocket by approximately three to four "teeth." If you are looking for a subtle change in your gearing, add or reduce 1-2 teeth on the rear sprocket. Although gearing ratios aren't as critical to off-road riders as they are street applications, it's always nice to know where you stand. To turn the rear sprocket once, the counter shaft sprocket has to spin the number of times in the "Ratio" column. (see gear ratio image) As an example, a 30 tooth rear sprocket and a 10 tooth front sprocket equals a 3.00 gearing ratio or three rotations on the front for every one rotation on the rear.

Name: Jim and Betty Edleston
Name: Kyle McAfee
FTR Position: FTR Chaplain
FTR Position: EC 7th seat first year , BOD area 12 Rep 4 years
Where are you from: Betty and both grew up in Florida. I moved to Titusville with my parents in 1957. Betty moved here with her family in 1968. We were married in 1997 and live in a beachside community in Volusia County. We have been involved with FTR since 2013. We are blessed with the privilege of sharing the Good News of Jesus with our FTR family. We lead and pray at the riders meetings, share a message at the CMA tent on Saturday nights and hand out the water bottles at the end of the races. We also follow up and pray with injured riders and their families. Personal: Betty and I have been happily married for 23 years. We have been with the Christian Motorcycle Asso. since 1991. Day Job: I am self-employed as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor. Other FTR duties: I provide support assistance to Uncle Bill at practice. I have worked with Uncle Bill for 5 years. What prompted you to pursue this position: By checking for wrist bands, I get to meet and talk with every rider. This also gives me the privilege of praying with many of them. What are your goals in your position? To continue to keep the riders and their families safe and blessed. What club are you a member of? I am the Vice President of the Old School Dirt Riders and also a member of the Sarasota Area Dirt Riders Association. What clubs are you members of and do you hold or have held positions in those clubs? I have been with the Daytona Dirt Riders since 2010. I have been the club president since 2017. How can members contact you? Anyone can call me at (386) 235-1022. I also can be reached via email at: jimedleston@ gmail.com.
26 www.floridatrailriders.org
Where are you from: ? I am a born and raised Floridian. I am married and my wife Jessica and I have 4 kids. Ethan 16, Austin 14, Chelsea 10, and Carter 2. Our two older boys, Ethan and Austin, both have been racing since peewees and both have moved up through the ranks and will be on big bikes this year. With Austin racing juniors and Ethan moving to Sunday afternoon. I have been involved in FTR since Frank Campbell took me to my first Harescramble in 1994. Motorcycles in general have been a huge part of my life ever since I was riding a Big Wheel 80 around my grandmothers pasture. I love collecting professional riders jerseys. So much so that I created an Instagram account to share them. If you are interested in seeing the collection look up mxjerseyguru. I also enjoy running, wake boarding, and pretty much any other outdoor activity that I can find time for. Day job? My day job is what consumes most of my time. I work for my families electrical contracting business. We provide electrical services for residential, commercial, and light industrial remodels and new construction. We also provide temporary power services for events and concerts. In addition I have a General Contractors license which allows us the flexibility to perform 100% of a lot of the work we do in-house. We also have a beef cattle ranch where we breed and raise beef cows. Which is more of an excuse to get away from the hustle of South East Florida a couple days a week to work the cows. My dad especially enjoys the ranch and he spends quite a bit of time out there playing cowboy. Why did you choose your position: I have participated with FTR for more than 25 years. This organization more than any other has helped me develop as a person and it has served as a foundation throughout nearly 1/3 of my life. I feel that it is extremely important that the membership be involved so that FTR can continue to provide the same opportunities for others as it did for me. As the population in Florida continues to climb our opportunities to do what we love are diminishing. FTR sits at the forefront of the off-road community in the southeast and I feel I am capable of helping the organization continue to be “Responsible Motorcyclists to ensure that we can all keep doing what we love. Riding and racing off-road.
How can members contact you? Cell: 1-561-722-1318 Email: rkyle914@aol.com My goals are to continue to help FTR succeed into the future so that my kids and others will have a great organization to race and ride with as they grow up.I think my biggest contribution so far has been the creation of the *FTR* Florida Trail Riders Facebook page. Facebook is a phenomenal tool to help the membership communicate and our old page was not being used in the best interest of the organization.
Club Name: River City Dirt Riders (RCDR) Started: 1985 in Jacksonville Florida Our membership dues are $160.00 per year with 4 work days reducing price to $80.00 per year Best way to join is go to our website, rcdr.org, or come to a meeting Meetings are second Tuesday of every month at St. Mary's Seafood, 7pm.
