FLORIDA TRAIL RIDERS As we all exercise our competitive spirit during the race weekends, we also have to keep ourselves in check and ride within our ability for our own safety and our fellow competitors. I have been able to ride along with our Safety team during the last few events and have had the opportunity to assist in a small way by rerouting the course away from the downed rider, picked up riders and checked to see if they needed medical assistance. During these mishaps, I have become aware that you have to watch your back as some of you don’t realize that something has happened and your regular line/trail maybe altered. I bring this up as our medical crew is usually down on their knees fully dedicated to the downed rider and relying on us grunts to secure the area around them so they don’t get run over. As I had some close calls myself, please be aware that our rider’s safety is the utmost important thing and when you arrive on a
scene where there is activity involving something that wasn’t there the lap before, please check up and pay attention and pause the competitive mode for a few seconds. I know in the heat of the battle it is very hard to switch it off and then flip it back on, but the consequences’ are a lot greater than keeping your competitor behind you. Remember that you are still riding your bike while our Safety Team is on the ground attending a fellow rider, friend or even a family member that you don’t know about yet. Please take extra caution when approaching these areas and be respectful. Thanks for listening Randy Faul

FLORIDA TRAIL RIDERS At the riders’ meetings we pray for safety for the riders and peace for the families while they watch and wait. Whether it’s the Pee Wees or the Sunday Double A’s, by asking for that protection, we acknowledge the ultimate authority… Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Matthew 28:18 Jesus alone has the authority to forgive of our sins. He wants to bring you joy and peace, even if the world around you is falling apart. Most of all, by believing in Him, He will give you a new life, here and hereafter.
Uncle Bill, Donnie and his team and the FTR leadership have a responsibility to first and foremost, keep every participant safe. This carries up from the crews in the field all the way up to the board of directors. For that reason the writer of Hebrews said it best,

I have the privilege of working every race with Uncle Bill. At any one time he is in charge of 150+ riders waiting for their class to hear those words “10 seconds!” Bill has the authority to start the races in an orderly and safe manner. The riders respect and listen to his direction. The apostle Paul put it this way Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities. Romans 13:1 Uncle Bill is respected not just because of who he is but with the position he holds. Without that respect for his authority to organize and direct, we would have chaos (a small taste of that is right before bike practice on Saturday mornings! LOL)
FLORIDA TRAIL RIDERS Getting to know...
Cathy Evangelo
W
hen did you start racing? October 2016. I only had 10 months of riding experience at the time. What got you into racing? My friend Dennis Rizza was going and invited me. I used to race stand up jet skis so it sounded like fun. What class are you currently in? Women's B. Anyone in your family racing with you now? No. My mom and dad were my biggest fans and came to all my jet ski races but my dad passed away a few years ago and my mom can't travel that far. She still loves to see all the photos of my racing and other hobbies. I sometimes go with my friend Dennis. If he isn't racing, I go on my own and hang out with my old jet ski racing friends - Dawn Wood (and her husband Ray) and Bo Dupriest. What is your favorite thing about FTR? The many wonderful people I have met! The trails are great too, especially Gatorback and Mondon Hill. What would you change if you could? I'm not sure. Maybe have a C women's class. There aren't many women that race so it's hard to add classes but we vary in age and skill level greatly so it's hard to fit us all in 3 classes. Biggest competition? Not really anyone. I'm still pretty slow so I'm the back of the pack, but I don't care I'm having fun. I always wanted to get into dirtbiking so I'm glad I finally did. It's the hardest sport I've ever done and I'm very proud of myself for finally trying it and learning and sticking with it. Favorite person to race with? All of the B women I have met are awesome! Sometimes I've been fortunate enough to stay near Cassi Roo Jacobs or Alexis Puszczewicz and that's really fun and I know it helps me ride faster. How did you get into your profession and how long have you been doing it? My degree and professional license are in Environmental Engineering. I was doing underground petroleum cleanup but my job went away in the recession. I was offered a job at Orange County Public Works. I started off as the utility coordinator and sidewalk program manager about 11 years ago. Now I'm a Senior Engineer acting as Design Project Manager on several Roadway and Pedestrian Safety Projects in Orange County. I'm not the technical expert since I have a different background but I learn a lot and it's fun to see new roads built that I worked on. My most recent project to open is a new bridge with John Young Parkway flying over Sand Lake Road.
Around The Pits FTR Honored with the AMA Off-Road Organizer Award
B
ack on December 7 the AMA had their annual AMA award banquet which honors their 2019 amateur motorcycle racers and top event organizers at the KTM AMA Championship Banquet. Everything from the Nicky Haden Horizon Award, 2019 Athlete of the year award and many other well known awards, FTR was also included with our acceptance of the AMA Off-Road Organizer of the Year Award. Our support, dedication and continuous promotion of off-road events earned us this prestigious acknowledgement by the AMA. I was surprised and honored to accept this on behalf of all of the FTR family. This award will be on display at this year’s banquet with great pride and honor. -Randy Faul
Cam Dozier had a great day at Mondon Hill taking 1st place out of 22 racers in Pee Wee C. Cam's dad, Christopher Dozier had this to say, " What's funny is that we forgot his race pants and he had to wear those khaki wranglers, but hey, they may be good luck! " I think whatever pants you're wearing you've got lots of 1st places in your future.
Dear FTR, I just want to say how much I appreciate the Florida Trail Riders. I'm a full time business owner and a weekend warrior.. My life and business provide me with the opportunity to ride once a week. When my wife lets me, I get to do Saturday and Sunday . Thanks to all the volunteers that give me a place to go race and pretend I'm still 25.. lol. My only regret is I didn't find this years ago... see ya at Indian town.. Ed Doughty #212 Master B

he fog starts to settle as morning draws near. The smell of bacon and race fuel hangs in the air. Through two-strokes and four-strokes the silence is broken, As two wheeled warriors are being awoken. Sign up and register, practice and tech, Then back to our campsite for one more quick check. The gas is topped up, tire pressures all right Suspension is set nice, my steering is tight. Ten seconds he calls, my heart's in my throat Butterflies in my stomach, breakfast wants to come out. Uncle Bill hits the horn, I run to my bike The beast fires right up and we both take to flight. I make the first corner, first place in my sight Passed one on my left, was passed on my right. We all hit the throttle and the dirt it goes slinging I grip tight with my legs and the bars I am clinging An hour and a half or longer to race Sometimes I am leading and others I chase I win some, I lose some and sometimes I crash It's a long, long ride home if your bike you have trashed
My friends they are racers , my family is too We come in all ages, races and genders that's true Racing hare scrambles and enduro's through marshes and ditches Bouncing of trees so sometimes we get stitches. Pouring rain can not stop us , freezing cold or hot sun Over flowing muddy creek beds is what we call fun. Dodging the rattle snakes, the cows , and the mine shafts We'll race in old gravel pits and call it a blast As evening draws near and the races are done We load up our dirt bikes and talk of the fun. Through out all of Florida we start for our homes Be safe FTR riders... where ever you roam.

ello, my name is Amber! I race in the Women A class and I’m a registered nurse. I just graduated from St. Petersburg College, December 2019 with my Associate of Science degree in nursing and plan to continue my education by going for my bachelors at USF. Before that I had my Associate of Arts degree and my EMT license. My dream job is to be a flight nurse. A big part of that was from one of our own medics/nurses Donny Richardson. He inspired me to go for a ride along with him and soon after that I’ve been hooked every since. My plan is to get some nursing experience in ICU first and then start getting all my certifications to apply to become a flight nurse. This year I will be riding along with Bayflite and Aeromed. I am so thankful for the opportunity and never give up on your dreams/goals!
AMA FLORIDA HARE SCRAMBLE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
FLORIDA TRAIL RIDERS Hare Scramble #7
2020 COYOTE HARE SCRAMBLE at MONDON HILL The Coyote Hare Scramble kicked off 2020 with a huge "braap". The Suncoast Trail Blazers had the course at Mondon Hill in pristine shape and it brought out a huge crowd ready to race but Mother Nature was as predictable as usual giving the ground a good soaking on Saturday which made for a mud-fest when the call for "Tennnn Seconds" sounded. Unlike most motor sports, a little, or a lot, of mud never stopped a dirt bike racer. Sunday's conditions were about a perfects as you can get considering the rain that fell days before. The AA class got a shake up with the addition of Jesse Ansley and Jack Chambers entering the class for the first time this season. Jesse, Jack, and AA points leader Garrett Edmisten battled it out and put on a great show. Uncharacteristically, Garrett faded leaving Jesse and Jack to race to the finish with Jack taking his first ever AA and the overall win by just 3 seconds in his first ever AA class race. " I was riding a KTM 150 and I was actually kind of nervous before the race due to it being the first time starting on the front line and especially having 12 guys on the line. After the 2nd turn I was in the lead and knew I had to sprint to get away from the other guys because sometimes out of sight out of mind, but not with Garrett, he caught me and kept me on my toes for the first 3/4 of the race then it came down to the last two laps with Jesse." Jack said. Overall it was a great weekend and the Suncoast Trailriders continue to put on a great event.
