DINE IN STYLE AT CHILSTON PARK HOTEL Over the years Chilston Park has been home to eminent politicians, writers, lords and viscounts. Today it is a classic British country house hotel with style and charm to spare but perhaps the most remarkable aspect of this four red star hotel is its unique styling, enhanced by antiques, some as old as the 17th century manor house. Set back from tree-lined lanes, the manor house at Chilston Park sits in 22 acres of parkland and features a two AA Rosette restaurant. The Grade I listed hotel offers a wide variety of unique feature bedrooms, from mews Classic double rooms to the Manor House master suites.

Success comes from working together.
Lenham Valley Business Association networking for Lenham since 2009 For me, it feels like just a couple of years since the Lenham Parish Council and the members of the independent Lenham business group, invited me to a meeting to advise how to improve their business group into a more focused operation. It was their fourth attempt at making the group work and (according to everyone) it still didn’t really work well. The main topic of conversation rarely got off parking, according to the then business group chairman. Until then I’d never heard of it. I had been the longest serving President (a volunteer position) of the Maidstone Chamber of Commerce and Industry (in addition since, the creator of The Maidstone Tourism Association). I had worked in design and marketing for ad agencies, the Kent Messenger and as a director of an international artwork service based in Maidstone, but serving the world. In 1994 I started my own sole trader business mainly in local design & marketing. My profession was well suited to advise different groups on branding, structuring and running properly functioning focus groups. Ensuring everyone involved got something from being part of it. All very exciting stuff! I thought the existing Lenham team would move forward and I would be there to help them. That wasn’t to be! I was asked to set it up myself and run it as a volunteer! I felt at home in Lenham, despite not living there. In the main people were helpful, enthusiastic and wanted to make things work properly. Lenham Valley Business Association provides a lot of help to local businesses with regular networking meetings for people that are really committed to improving their business performance. Speakers at monthly meetings are carefully selected and they are always knowledgable and entertaining. Directories like the one shown here provide business opportunities around the whole locality. The cost is only £75 per year for a sole trader to join the LVBA and you get up to four entries under different headings on the website and more within that price. The key is working together.

The Pilgrims Way by Peter Bailey, May 2017
The prehistoric trackway, from Dover to Stonehenge, Used as a road for pilgrims, a sainthood to avenge. The death of Thomas Beckett begot the sacred shrine; To visit as a traveller, an enterprise divine. Winchester to Canterbury became the classic route, The chalky downsland ridge; quite easy on the boot For thousands with their crosses raised; His devotion to be praised. The Pilgrims Way description? ‘Victorian inscription’ O.S. map invention! Historical intention! Today the ‘North Downs Way’ is here, A nations Trail for all to use. For ramblers, cyclists all to share, Some motor bikers to abuse. We still have modern pilgrims too, Who march and sing with banners true, All the way to Canterbury, Step by step and very weary! Three thousand years of history, The transport of our ancestry. Ideal for modern recreation, A public asset for our nation!
