MISS VIRTUAL DIVA 2018 ANAEL STARR

ANAEL STARR MISS VIRTUAL DIVA 2018

Interview by Sarahelisebeth Brenham Photographed by Angels Kristan

Well, ladies and gentlemen, another edition of Miss Virtual Diva has come to a close. This year’s pageant was filled with surprises and challenges for all of the contestants, making the 2018 version of this event the best one yet! So, are you curious to know who the new face of Virtual Diva is? Read on to discover who it is and to learn more about this great lady.

At first, we would talk at rehearsals and friended each other. Then as time progressed we would compare notes on challenges and stress together! The girls were wonderful, we were not competing against each other. It was very nice when at a rehearsal or show someone would IM, “Hey, you need your tag.” Or “Heads up, your turn is coming up” or “your jewelry needs adjusting”. Melinda BYAN FIRST RUNNER UP

S

arah: What made you decide to do Miss Virtual Diva?

Melinda: Angels Kristan was my sponsor in Miss SL 2017 when I was wearing the title of Miss SL Mexico. I have a lot to thank her for, including all her support in those months. How could I not be in her contest? As soon as I could, I registered and here you see me! Sarah: What was the hardest challenge for you during MVD and why? Melinda: There was a photographic challenge called the deadly sins. Each sin was represented by a color and I was sure that I wanted to wear a green dress, so the sin of the green color was envy. How do you represent something you do not feel? That was my biggest difficulty. Sarah: How would you describe your emotions as a whole during the competition? Melinda: It was gratifying to be part of Miss Virtual Diva 2018 --I felt like family; there was a union between all of the opponents and the staff that resulted in a beautiful event in each challenge. I am proud to be part of this family. Sarah: What are your future plans? Melinda: Maybe to be an Angel??? winks! (Angy style). This year I will be working with “My Family and attending to some minor projects, but 100% with Virtual Diva, looking forward to the many things that await us! Sarah: What advice do you give to future contestants? Melinda: Be yourself, express your essence in each challenge, have fun and prepare to receive new friends. If you are here it is because you like it, enjoy it as much as possible because it is short!

RoyaleSun ixchel

SECOND RUNNER UP

S

arah: What made you decide to do Miss Virtual Diva?

RoyaleSun: I love competing...I think I may be addicted to it...lol. Gee I wonder if I should talk to someone about that? Anyway, this was the third year I entered. I love elegant clothing and Angy has some of the best. Sarah: What was the hardest challenge for you during MVD and why? RoyaleSun: The hardest was the challenge where we had to use items from Angy’s famous box of goodies. I always want to maintain the elegance and use the items but not go overboard. Sarah: How would you describe your emotions as a whole during the competition? RoyaleSun: I think we were all nervous at every challenge, but I felt confident in what I had done. The worst moment I think I had was second guessing myself on the Fantasy Angels challenge. Sarah: What are your future plans? RoyaleSun: I plan to continue perfecting my skills, teaching, and now I seem to be in demand as a judge, which I find quite interesting too. Sarah: What advice do you give to future contestants? RoyaleSun: Trust yourself...and your abilities. Don’t get rattled when a monkey wrench is thrown into the mix. Be friendly and help others.

Gloria GABE THIRD RUNNER UP

S

arah: What made you decide to do Miss Virtual Diva?

Gloria: Virtual Diva is a brand that I have always admired, but in reality it was a great friend that I had been insisting for years for me to try because, according to her, it was an honest contest as opposed to many, and I also wanted a chance to get into the Fantasy Angels Company. Sarah: What was the hardest challenge for you during MVD and why? Gloria: The most difficult for me was undoubtedly Papier Couture...I try to be as faithful as possible to the style without copying and in this case I had very little time available due to RL and I could not find much that could apply. At the time, I redid my styling two times and after seeing the other colleagues, realized that it could have been a bit more loose and simpler than what I had chosen to wear. Sarah: How would you describe your emotions as a whole during the competition? Gloria: I’d say it was like a roller coaster. I had great difficulty in not paying attention to beauty contests for many years. The first challenge I was convinced that would not be chosen was undoubtedly a shock and the pressure increased greatly, in others it was always a stress and wanted to give up many times even in the eve of the final, until I told myself that I would always give my better and that was in the hands of God ... In the end ... I was very sad because as I said I always felt that it was not for me but as I was called forward the nerves and stress took over me the brain stopped. There was a lot of adrenaline! Sarah: What are your future plans? Gloria: I do not usually make many plans because it increases the pressure, but in this case I can say that I will continue to bet on evolving my style in social media to learn photography and to live the fashion of SL as if it were my way of life and everything that comes my way is a bonus for which I am truly grateful. Sarah: What advice do you give to future contestants? Gloria: I think it would be to be humble, learn, do not be ashamed to ask your mentors for help and let things happen because you are doing your best. In the end in these things you never know if you can be a beautiful surprise!

Seaside PURCELL FOURTH RUNNER UP

S

arah: What made you decide to do Miss Virtual Diva?

Seaside: It hadn’t been long since I had come back from a Second Life hiatus and was looking for something to keep me occupied. I was a Virtual Diva model before I left, but had left the group right before leaving SL behind for a few months. Since I had history with Angy, I decided to join the competition. Sarah: What was the hardest challenge for you during MVD and why? Seaside: They *all* were difficult for me since I’m not the elegant type.. if I had to choose one, it would be the Papier Couture challenge. it wasn’t that it was so difficult, rather than very, very time consuming for me. Sarah: How would you describe your emotions as a whole during the competition? Seaside: Oh my. Well, quite upbeat at the beginning. However, by the last two challenges, i was pretty stressed and a few of the competitors may have started to see a few kinks in my armor. Sarah: What are your future plans? Seaside: For those who follow my blog, Virtual Threads, they’ve noticed I’ve sprouted long ears, a long bushy tail, padded hands and paws. I’ve decided to take on a new challenge of dressing as a Furry. Now, I know this will shut a lot of doors for me and if it didn’t, I probably wouldn’t be taking this new venture on. This is my *true* challenge -- to show the high fashion industry that being a “Furry” is like wearing a very dark skin or being an Albino...it’s simply different and that’s all. I’m not a Furry who’s a model. I’m a model who just happens to be a Furry. Sarah: What advice do you give to future contestants? Seaside: Be yourself. However, do not be resistant to change. When you have the desire to change, you will improve upon that self you already love and present to others. Never compromise since that is denying who you really are.

Liberty LIGHTHOUSE FIFTH RUNNER UP

S

arah: What made you decide to do Miss Virtual Diva?

Liberty: I joined Miss Virtual Diva to show my talent and my ability on styling. I also knew Miss Virtual Diva could help me enhance and improve my capability throughout each challenge. Sarah: What was the hardest challenge for you during MVD and why? Liberty: Papier Couture. I misunderstood it at first glance, but with the help of Angels Kristan and her wonderful mentors, they put me in the right direction with their wonderful tips. Sarah: What are your future plans? Liberty: I will be dedicated to the Virtual Diva organization. Fulfilling all my duties, as a runner up. I am very honored that I get to help accomplish some of Virtual Diva’s goals for the next year. Sarah: What advice do you give to future contestants? Liberty: Miss Virtual Diva is the best contest I have been in. Angels Kristan and her wonderful mentors, supporters, encouragement and direction can help mold you into a successful and vibrant young woman. They see your strengths and opportunities for growth from the outside. And they can make you stronger and more confident in your modeling career.

Miss Virtual Diva 2018 “The Journey” By Monica Querrien Photography by Luka Benton

For a moment, it seemed as if time slowed down. As classical music played in the background, the newly crowned Miss Virtual Diva 2018, Anael Starr, did her inaugural walk on stage. Those who had been fortunate to place as runner ups in the competition waved to the audience while holding their rose bouquets. Cheers could be heard from the audience, and the rest of the finalists clapped heartily for the winners. It was truly a surreal moment for everyone in attendance on July 8th. But how did these finalists get to this point in time? Who will be The Next Face of Fashion? From February 26 to April 1st, the contest welcomed all female avatars who had a passion for fashion, demonstrated great styling ability, and generally wanted to have fun to enter the contest. Headed by owner and CEO of Virtual Diva Organization, Angels Kristan, and Miss Virtual Diva 2017, Tryska Moon (tryska1104), the challenge to find “The Next Face of Fashion” was on. There were big prize incentives to join this year’s contest. The winner would receive a prize for L$100,000 from the Virtual Diva Organization, a beautiful crown, as well an exclusive design from Virtual Diva, and L$25,000 of Virtual Diva products. In addition, the winner would win a featured cover of Virtual Diva magazine, as well as entry into the exclusive Fantasy Angels Company. The runner ups in the contest would receive an exclusive tiara, a contract with the Virtual Diva organization, have a gown named after her, and win various Linden dollar amounts of Virtual Diva products. If the runner ups did well enough, they would also have a full interview in Virtual Diva magazine, and also become part of the exclusive Fantasy Angels Company. In order to determine who would be the next Miss Virtual Diva, contestants participated in a number of runway and editorial challenges.

This year, mentors were provided to the contestants so that they could guide and offer support to them throughout the challenges. Also members of The Fantasy Angels, Daneen Sands, Lolita Paragon, and Joys Cutitta were a constant presence throughout the contest - so much so that they opened up the finale show, giving their mentees a taste of what it would be like to be part of the Virtual Diva Organization. Many of the contestants looked to MVD 2017 Tryska Moon as both a role model and an inspiration, so whoever won would have a great deal of responsibility. Also, since there would be no Fantasy Angels casting this year, several contestants expressed their sentiments about wishing to gain entry into the illustrious company. The Challenges were designed to showcase the styling ability and creativity of each contestant. MVD presentations began with a bridal theme at the Live Auditions in April, followed by the Official Presentation inspired by the #MeToo movement. There were five Challenges that followed, and ended with the Finale show on July 8th. Read the full journey and details about each challenge and all of the contestants on the Miss Virtual Diva blog Congratulations to winner Anael Starr, Miss Virtual Diva 2018 and the new Face of Fashion. Congratulations also to the following Runners Up: 1st runner up: Melinda Bayn 2nd runner up: RoyalSun 3rd runner up: Gloria Gabe 4th runner up: Seaside Purcell 5th runner up: Liberty Lighthouse On behalf of Angels Kristan, management and staff, welcome to the Virtual Diva Organization!

VIRTUAL DIVA THE FACE OF FASHION BLOGGING AND PHOTOGRAPHY TOSHA BERGAN WRITTEN BY SITA WRITER

VIRTUAL DIVA EIGHT YEARS AND COUNTING OF CHARM, DILIGENCE AND PASSION HAPPY ANNIVERSARY

Angels Kristan, the Creative Force behind Virtual Diva is an innovator and an inspiration. She is better known as Angy and she is multifaceted, creative, and kind—a rare breed in SL. Angy discovered SL as a website promotion, and with that in mind, she took it to the tenth degree and created a place where everyone can feel comfortable and stylish. It is a shop where you will feel elegant and beautiful, inside and out. That is the essence of the brand created by Angy, and once you wear Virtual Diva, you will understand the creative talent that makes this brand so popular across the grid. Angy has an artistic soul—it is in her genetic makeup. She grew up in a home of artists including the full palette of the genre from actors, singers and musicians to painters. Expression is part of the heritage of her family so it is no surprise that Angy was drawn to the world of fashion. She says, “For me fashion is art, it is how I express myself and it is how I see the world. More importantly it is how I see every woman in the world: beautiful inside and out...and empowered.” It is only logical that this love of fashion and artistry found a place in Angy’s heart in SL. “I have always loved fashion in RL. I was always compelled to see what was on trend and how models on the runway were using the most cutting edge looks.” She adds, “I like the mystery of glamour and artistry that models exude especially when they wear my creations...it is fulfilling.” Virtual Diva has been around for eight years. Angy states, “I started at a very small booth in a Latino Club, I remember that. Precious was the name of my first outfit.” It is no surprise that Virtual Diva grew in popularity because Angy, the creator, puts her heart and soul into what she makes. “I am inspired by the world. Sometimes I am inspired in the moment...the sounds of birds, the rushing waves, silence, flowers in bloom, and the purr of a cat. I see fashion like small pieces of life that I try to combine in every possible way—it is a way to be free and a way to show what I treasure in my heart.” Any anniversary in any life is important, but because time passes so quickly in SL with so many daily changes, eight years and counting for Virtual Diva is a true accomplishment.

To keep up with the trends and technological changes takes a lot of diligence and hard work. Angy explains, “Being in SL and celebrating for eight years means so much to me. So many things happened during these years in my real life; experiences that made me the designer that I am today. Both lives have helped me to develop my character and to just keep going and never be satisfied with anything LOL! What I really mean is that I am always looking for ways to improve my craft and to learn more technological and artistic methods. I love to learn and to better myself, and I like to get into the details in order to grow as an artist and designer.” As for the future, Virtual Diva plans on continuing to create high fashion styles in SL. “I love the beauty of this profession because in SL there is a universe of possibilities and ways to express yourself and to create,” Angy says with excitement! She adds, “I believe that in life we are who we want to be. Things are never easy and there is a lot of failure along the way, but we are the ones that decide to continue and make it happen, only us. I don’t believe in failure, I believe in learning...every time you get up.” Over the years Angy has added to the Virtual Diva brand and today, in addition to Virtual Diva Couture, she now owns and runs Virtual Diva Magazine, Miss Virtual Diva “Face of Fashion” Competition and The Fantasy Angels Company. She works with some of the best models, bloggers and fashion industry professionals in SL, and continues to innovate, inspire and deliver creative fashion to her fans. Congratulations to Angels Kristan on the 8th Anniversary of Virtual Diva! We wish you many more years of success in both worlds.

TRYSKA MOON The Charm of a Diva

Thank you from Tryska Moon Dear readers, This is my last article as Miss Virtual Diva. We now have a new Miss representing the organization. I would like to say that during my reign, I had many joys and acquired a lot of knowledge and new friendships. I hope I have added good things to the organization. Angels Kristan is an inspiration, not only for the candidates for Miss, but as a person. Warrior woman, beautiful, creative, enterprising, empowered. I learned a lot from her and I thank her from the bottom of my heart. She knows she can always count on me. I also want to thank Jena Adder, Monica Querrien, Redtess69 and Sarahelisebeth Brenham. Being part of the Virtual Diva Organization is an honor for me. This cycle has come to an end, but I carry with me only good memories. Summer,Camping,Yachting and Summer Sports

Summer is half over already. SAY WHAT?! I know. Along with relaxing in the summer sun, there’s still time to do all of your favorite activities with friends and family. Camping is the ideal activity for those who love roughing it in the outdoors. If you can afford renting (or maybe buying) a yacht, there’s nothing better than Yachting on the blue waters of the Mediterranean and taking in the cool breezes of the salty seas. We all have a favorite summer sport and in this issue we feature two competitive sporting activities: Football/Soccer and Beach Volleyball. Read on to discover our picks for the best looks to wear for these activities and more!

Beach Volleyball Summer is made for relaxing, having fun and enjoying free time with family and friends. It’s a time to destress from work and enjoy the sun’s rays kissing the skin while tanning and diving into wonderful waters. At dusk, the temperature goes down and nothing is better than enjoying a challenging game of beach volleyball with friends. Models Caesar Langer and SaianSamuel show us exactly how that’s done as they heat things up in comfy beachwear for guys. The cap and shades shield their eyes from the summer sun as they move freely, jumping and digging their feet into the soft, velvety beach sand before they have their final, refreshing dive! Camping Model Valeria Endrizzi shows us her Must Haves for a weekend camping trip up the northern mountains. Well equipped and ready for the grassy hills, Val shows us that ‘roughing it’ doesn’t have to mean scrimping on style. Her look is comfortable and versatile, and she is ready for whatever Mother Nature throws at her.

Yachting Model Milla Crumb delivers two stylish looks for her yachting trip on the Mediterranean seas: Casual and Swimwear. Milla’s ‘casual’ wear is oh so chic yet simple and comfortable. She’s ready for a late afternoon cocktail with friends as they prepare to sail out into the sunset. While the crew readies the evening meal and activities, Milla shows off her ‘swimwear’ as she takes in the last of the sun on the ship’s deck. She looks very stylish in a daring bathing suit, oversized sunhat and sunglasses. This trip is meant for calm, relaxation and lots of fun on the ocean waves.

Big events like award shows, movie premieres and galas are typically the events to watch our favorite celebrities parade along a red carpet, showing off the latest trends and over-the-top works of art in fashion. Our Virtual Diva models showcase some incredible looks that were inspired by some of the ‘popular events’ of 2018: The Met Gala, The Royal Wedding, The Foundation for AIDS Research Cannes Gala (amfAR), and The 25th Anniversary LIFE Ball. The Met Gala The theme at this year’s Met Gala was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination”, and saw stars gracing the runway in mix of haute couture, avant garde and religious costumes. It’s usually a no holds barred situation at The Met Gala—an annual fundraiser for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City. You could call it the fashion world equivalent of the Oscars. The best of the best superstars and personalities are invited to The Met Gala where they are expected to show up in over-the-top, oneof-a-kind looks, typically seen at a fashion museum. The Royal Wedding One of the biggest events of 2018 was the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle—a British/American love story come to life on the most spectacular and prestigious of red carpets. Big hats, big money, big stars AND big changes seemed to be the theme at this royal affair, which was also shrouded in controversy and secrecy.

Nonetheless, millions around the world tuned in to watch the dutiful couple tie the knot in traditional and modern fashion... and speaking of fashion, the guests did not disappoint in their fancy wedding garb. The Foundation for AIDS Research Cannes Gala (amfAR) Many came out to raise money for AIDS Research at amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research Gala in Cannes. amfAR is one of the world’s leading nonprofit organizations dedicated to the support of AIDS research, HIV prevention, treatment, education and advocacy. It was not surprising to see celebrities arrive in trendy and traditional fashion at The gala, which included an auction, music performances and fashion show. Fashion has always played a major role in the efforts to raise money for AIDS research. The 25th Anniversary LIFE Ball Life Ball celebrated its 25th anniversary in June this year with a theme that honored the musical “The Sound of Music” and festivities that included a red carpet showcase, performances and parties in the beautiful city of Vienna, Austria. The LIFE Ball is Europe’s largest HIV/AIDS charity-event-cum-bacchanal that fights for all of those living with HIV and those impacted by the virus around the world. Stars from all corners of the globe were invited to participate. The fashion on the red carpet did not disappoint as personalities in film, music, fashion and art showcased their interpretation of The Sound of Music in dramatic and certainly interesting ways.
