Floralia: a 2015 floral calendar About the photographer

Brian Watson’s passion for flowers began at an early age. His fascination was sparked when his grandmother told a very young Brian that peonies needed ants to eat away the coverings of their buds in order to bloom. A love for photography began when, in college, he had the opportunity to join his professor as he led a safari in East Africa. Although there were few opportunities to shoot flowers there, he began to develop his craft, and continued to work with that used Canon camera that was a gift from his aunt when he began living and working in Japan in 1988. Brian’s first new camera was a Nikon Coolpix 995 in 2002, and at that point he began to explore digital RAW photography in earnest. Shooting almost exclusively in macro format, he was captivated by the details he found in his photos, and, even more so, was taken by their beauty. Brian began selling photographs and art prints that year at art festivals up and down the West Coast. He moved back to Canon cameras with the purchase of a Digital Rebel XT, his first digital SLR, and two new macro lenses, a 70-300mm Sigma and a 180mm Tamron. Moving to Canada in 2006 to study graphic design, and then typography, followed by communication arts, Brian’s love for printed design blossomed. He was honored to be selected as one of only five photographers to be carried by AZ Home & Gifts in 2009. His photographs are marketed to retailers across North America. Brian upgraded the Rebel XT to a canon 40D in 2011 for an even larger resolution. This is the first calendar to be designed and sold by Brian. More will follow.
