Velcro dhotis for the younger generation Brining a new ‘cool’ vibe to the idea of wearing dhotis, and especially targeting the younger generation, Ramraj Cotton Company has, as part of its next phase, introduced its new range called Genxt Velcro dhotis. Cold-pressed juices are one the hottest (pardon the irony!) new beverage trends to emerge this season. Raul Dias profiles four companies across the country that make it their mission to put your health on the right track.
Juicifix, Mumbai Juicifix (www.juicifix. com) is a young coldpressed juice start-up by avrio rebello and Tejomay rastogi with a vision to make healthy, tasty juices with no preservatives and no additives—just juice! They make one fruit flavour and one veg flavour every day and one can fix oneself a subscription (three day fix, five day fix, 15 day fix etc). Each ‘fix’ is a healthy concoction of carefully sourced ingredients, cold-pressed and blended into sips of pure rejuvenation. Every bottle is a great detoxifying and cleansing blend and provides the necessary

vitamins, minerals and good calories of 250ml that you would not get by just consuming a fruit or a vegetable a day. priced at R130 per bottle, Juicifix’s range includes the strawberry juice-based Energyfix (antioxidants and folic acid), 24Carrot (rich in fiber, Vitamin a and C) among several other juice blends. From sterilized bottles and fruits washed with filtered water, to a strictly-timed schedule that is designed to maintain optimum nutrition, no expense and energy has been spared to get your cold-pressed juice fix to your doorstep every day in Mumbai (from andheri to Churchgate)— fresh and delicious!
What is coldpressing and what are its benefits?
juicers or blenders, cold-press technology produces no heat and allows no air to enter during the juice extraction process. The heat and air thrust through the juice when you make it in a normal blender or juicer destroys
living enzymes and micronutrients. However, during the cold-pressing process, tons and tons of pressure is exerted on the raw produce to yield a fine, consistent juice full of beneficial fiber and much-needed roughage!
Existing packaged juices in the market are unhealthy and contain preservatives, chemicals, growth hormones, stabilisers and are full of added sugar. They stay on the shelf without refrigeration for over three months. While cold-pressed juices are made of 100% raw fruits and vegetables, tetra pack juices in the market typically contain only 8-10% fruit or vegetables. Unlike household
Fresh Pressery, Bengaluru launched in august 2014, this cold-pressed juice company is spearheaded by two friends, Natasha Hinshaw and rishaad Vazirally. Operating out of a professional kitchen, with a nutritionist as part of the team, Fresh pressery (facebook. com/freshpressery/) offers

three, five and seven-day juice cleanse packages. Offering up vile sounding, but “oh! so healthy juice combinations of gourd, spinach, celery, cucumber, ginger and lemon, the juices here are an acquired taste. The fruits and vegetables are locally sourced with 80% of the produce coming from First agro, a local company that offers farm fresh, zero-
pesticide produce. Their latest launch includes a natural fruit-infused alkaline water in sweet lemon and cucumber flavours (from the essential oils of the ingredients), and comes packed with antioxidants, calcium and iron. prices start from R1,500 and the bottles are available in 250ml and 400 ml sizes for delivery all over Bengaluru.
JustPressed, Delhi NCR Unlike heavily processed commercial products which rob raw fruits and vegetables of hard-earned flavours, vitamins and nutritional benefits, Justpressed (www. justpressed.in) claims that their juices allow the fruits and vegetables that go into making them to retain their nuances and natural benefits thanks to the cold-press process. Their range of eight

juices—ranging from pump (coconut water, pineapple, apple, orange, aloe vera, mint and lemongrass) to Jolt (carrot, apple, celery, cucumber, beet, lemon and spirulina)—is FSSai approved and is offered as individual juices as well as ‘Cleanse packages’. Each of their boutique juices is packed in two sizes of 300ml and 500 ml and has at least six exotic fruits and vegetables as well as a superfoods. all juices are dairy/soy/gluten free and
vegan. The 300ml bottle costs R175 and the 500ml bottle costs R275. a one day cleanse is for R1,600 and a three day cleanse costs R4,700. These 100% pure juices are unpasteurised to retain all the raw goodness and hence have a shelf life of three days in a refrigerator. Currently Justpressed delivers the juices free all over Delhi NCr, but they are also soon going to have a presence in other metros like Mumbai, Kolkata and pune.

spring Detox Feeling sluggish and under par? Want to shed excess weight and prevent breakouts? It is time for a detox. Revive your energy, get clear skin and spring into shape, says Akcelina Cvijetic.
Eat revitalising foods The easiest way to start detoxing is by increasing your intake of fresh foods bursting with vitality. Artichokes, broccoli, spinach, beetroot and mung beans are excellent cleansing foods. Include more green leafy vegetables by choosing salads. Make your plate colourful to benefit from different nutrients. Choose lean protein such as beans,

pulses, quinoa and fish. Snack on berries and seeds. If you want to feel alive, have more living foods. Avoid vitality robbers Gradually remove caffeine, alcohol, sugar and sugary foods, wheat, dairy, animal products and processed foods. These foods are acidic, clogging and draining on the system. Replace coffee
with herbal teas, alcohol with non-alcoholic drinks, sugary foods with fruits, wheat with other grains, dairy with goat’s products, and animal options with their vegetarian counterparts. The result of this: you will feel lighter, brighter and more energised. Drink plenty of water It is very important that you drink lots of water
while detoxing. Water aids elimination, helps boost metabolism and keeps energy levels up. Drink at least two litres of water a day. Choose still water at room temperature and sip it throughout the day. Take up skin brushing Skin brushing is a great way to eliminate cellulite, soften the skin and stimulate circulation. The best time to do it is before a shower. Use a natural bristle brush. Start from your feet, making upward strokes towards your heart. Try it, it is wonderfully energising! Step up your exercise routine Exercise is essential when it comes to removing toxins from the body. Choose for 30 minutes daily an activity you enjoy. Our friends insisted we visit it, before we left for Hampi the next morning. Luckily we make it in time as it is open till 8.30 pm, and its proximity to our hotel, makes it an easy three-minute walk. lights, stone pillars and floors and architecture that mirrors Hampi. A R50 ticket allows one to explore the interactive museum which is based on the history of Hampi. A joint effort The museum was curated and conceived by Sarah Kenderdine at Museum Victoria in Australia and this project brings together more than 30 years of research at the site. A large hall with magnificent photos of stone
structures, that have stood the test of time and weather, people, villages and at the beginning itself is a beautiful statement about Sangita Jindal, the brain behind Kaladham. The lights focus on each important site of Hampi and a friendly attendant Srinivas explains the history of the glorious heritage. It begins with the capital of the former Vijaynagar Empire and Srinivas related all the mythological, archaeological and historical significance of
queen’s baths, watch tower, unique palaces made to beat the summer heat... the rich history is glorious and leaves us awestruck.

A destination by itself The next morning we explore the rest of Kaladham and the complex. Artistic sculptures, well-manicured lawns and tropical flowers adorn the township. The Panchvati temple is located next to a lake, where one can feed ducks and spot plenty of birds, some of them rare. The Jindal Steel Works Foundation set up Kaladham Art Village on a 10-acre plot. Besides the museum, it is an art and culture precinct that includes major buildings, dance and performance pavilions, and artists’ studios. The objective behind developing Kaladham is to reach out to artists across the world and provide them with a platform to showcase their unique talent. In the words of Foundation’s Chairperson, Sangita Jindal, the aim is, “to make Kaladham a point of reference for the World Heritage Site, to highlight the roots and history of Hampi and the artisans that created it, bringing excellence and creativity worldwide”.

The beautiful, well-travelled Mana Shetty, creative director of R House Furnishing Solutions and wife of actor Sunil Shetty, on enhancing your home space via your travels. Nichola Pais takes notes.
W
e all go a little crazy shopping especially when we travel abroad, because we get so tempted by the mind-blowing variety of stuff available. But it’s important to be aware of the concept of your interiors at home, before you buy anything when travelling so you don’t end up adding clutter to your home. The colours, the style of your home are things you should keep in mind so you don’t go crazy picking up things which you eventually realise simply don’t fit into your interiors when you return...And this, after lugging it long distances home! Travel Tales It’s more about creating your own story, via your travel buys. When you travel, it’s important to pick up things that mean something, that have a bit of a story behind it. So whether it is a cushion or an accent piece, it should add to your interiors, while holding some special memory of your holiday. For instance, I love going to churches abroad, and I invariably pick up a candle which reminds me of that place. If you’re in South Africa, it could be a platter or

a mask. Or it could even be a paper napkin or a shot glass. I have even picked up local sauces and kaffir leaves from places like Bali, or Phuket or Jakarta! It could be something simple—you don’t have to go overboard—but it should be heart-warming and something that you can share with family and friends. That’s what I mean by creating your own story. On a trip to Gstaad, several years ago, I picked up the most beautiful antique wine glasses. Every time we use them, people exclaim that they simply don’t see such glasses anymore! They tell a story. Beautiful things like this add to your home. What’s more, you end up reminiscing about that particular time and it brings back so many memories. That is the beauty of picking up things when you travel.
Good Buys It’s difficult to generalise because it depends on your home and your taste, but again, your choices should

add value to your home, while holding some sentiments. If you’re shopping in the Far East, you could go for the beautiful blue and white crockery of Bangkok. Whether it’s bowls or platters, I have loved picking up the Oriental style designs on my trips there. Besides crockery, I also pick up my cutlery, my Buddhas. On a trip to Switzerland around 14 years ago, I had picked up these beautiful ceramic platters in solid colours like reds and oranges. I mix and match and use them even today—the quality is excellent.

From a market in Capetown, we had picked up a whole lot of beautiful masks—they decorate an entire wall of our holiday home in Khandala. The glassware in Europe is beautiful but it’s a little difficult to carry back. In India, I find that Pondicherry has some beautiful antiques. I picked up a lovely Nandi, and some wooden artifacts. Our home is very rustic, so these wooden pieces are right at home in our space. Home, Suite Home! It is desirable and possible to create, in your home, an atmo-
sphere similar to that of the beautiful, restful hotels rooms you stayed in while on holiday. Fragrances add a lot to ambience. Floating candles, scented candles burning, help to re-capture the soothing charm of your suite at home. But the first and foremost rule: Remove the clutter! When

we travel, there’s no clutter around us. It helps to keep the palette at home serene, with a predominance of beige and white. Inject a dash of colour like aqua blue into your interiors, to bring in memories of your holiday by the beach! And it’s almost like the vacation never ended!

For last 16 years Mody University has been making women independent and flexible to camouflage in the changing scenario while keeping one’s individuality intact. Mody University’s new President, Dr. Vishwanath (Vish) Prasad, who has returned after serving for 33 years in academic and research leadership positions at premier universities in USA, believes in fully integrating educational pedagogy with human values such as creativity, innovation and leadership. Shamitabh, from the narration to the post production? …The very minute when I heard about the technicians and the cast. There are legends standing all around me, I mean Amit-ji, Balki (Director), PC Shriram (Cinematography), IIaiyaraaja (Music). Four of them standing around me… I mean, that was my favourite moment. The minute I heard about all these people involved in this project, I was like WHAAAT! (Smiles)
We live in a country where Amitabh Bachchan is the biggest phenomenon ever. While shooting did you discover things about him which really excited you? I mean, what do I say… A lot!! He is phenomenal, he is great…he is very sincere, very dedicated and I learnt a lot from him. This film was a great journey, and sharing screen space with him was a great experience…it is my blessing. When you have a veteran like Mr. Bachchan and a debutant, Akshara ….how do you balance the energies on set? You know, I had my plate full. My role was quite difficult, a very challenging role to play, so I was concentrating more on how to do my job properly than to concentrate on anything else. I observed a lot though. Even though it was
a difficult role, I just walked in and Balki took care of the rest. Prepping for a difficult character, do you follow a method or are you just instinctive? I don’t think I am intelligent enough to categorise myself like that. I don’t know if I know acting that much to talk about it. I just follow the director’s instructions. Honestly… R. Balki has genuinely carved some gems on screen. Was there any pressure of performance when he was directing? Not really…you know, we got along really well and understood each other very well. I think that understanding is very important and that worked in my favour. Which has been your favourite part about
You’ve done innumerable films and when today you glance through your journey, is it surreal? It is a miracle. Where I am sitting right now, it is a miracle, I don’t really have any possible explanations for that. The only explanation that I could come up with is my parents’ sincere prayers for me and some good karma which I might have done in my previous birth, I don’t know (Smiles). You know, maybe I met the right people at the right time but miracles can happen and I am the right example of that. Is there anyone whose career graph really inspires you to take the same path? No…not really, I want to go on my own path. Your South film Anegan released in February as well, so were you all set for the clash of promotions between the two releases? (Smiles) Kind of! But it’s good to be busy, I am enjoying it now, flying here and there back and forth. It’s nice, fun! (Smiles). I agree promotions can be tiring but you know you have to do it. It’s your film and you have to promote it. There’s such a large area you have to cover, so many people you have to reach. It is a must. HAPPY FLYING! / APRIL 2015

New Releases this Month! HINDI
Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! This month’s big release is the period crime thriller film directed by Dibakar Banerjee and produced by Banerjee and Aditya Chopra. The film is based on the fictional detective Byomkesh Bakshi created by the Bengali writer Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay. The film stars Sushant Singh Rajput, Anand Tiwari and Swastika Mukherjee in principal roles. During World War II, the nature of crime changed in Kolkata. There were air raids and there were Japanese spies as well. And at that point, Kolkata was a port city, so there were naturally more crime. In this scenario a young detective, Byomkesh Bakshy, came to solve a mystery—his first case. Sure looks like this film is a first in a franchise of many more future Byomkesh Bakshy flicks.
Ek Paheli Leela Starring Sunny Leone— the current bombshell of Bollywood—in the titular role, Ek Paheli Leela is a musical thriller film, written and directed by Bobby Khan and produced by Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar. The movie also has Jay Bhanushali, Rajneesh Duggal, Jas Arora, Mohit Ahlawat and Rahul Dev in pivotal roles. The choreography is done by Saroj Khan and Ahmed Khan, while the music for the film is composed by Amaal Mallik.

CORNER
Aesop’s Fables (Translated by George Fyler Townsend)
The Fisherman Piping A fisherman skilled in music took his flute and his nets to the seashore. Standing on a projecting rock, he played several tunes in the hope that the fish, attracted by his melody, would of their own accord dance into his net, which he had placed below. At last, having long waited in vain, he laid aside his flute, and casting his net into the sea, made an excellent haul of fish. When he saw them leaping about in the net upon the rock he said: “O you most perverse creatures, when I piped you would not dance, but now that I have ceased you do so merrily.”
The Dog and the Shadow A dog, crossing a bridge over a stream with a juicy bone in his mouth, saw his own shadow in the water and took it for that of another dog, with a bone double his own in size. He immediately let go of his own, and fiercely attacked the other dog to get his larger bone from him. He thus lost both: that which he grasped at in the water, because it was a shadow; and his own, because the stream swept it away.
The Kingdom of the Lion The beasts of the field and forest had a lion as their king. He was neither wrathful, cruel, nor tyrannical, but just and gentle as a king could be. During his reign he made a royal proclamation for a general assembly of all the birds and beasts, and drew up conditions for a universal league, in which the wolf and the lamb, the panther and the kid, the tiger and the stag, the dog and the hare, should live together in perfect peace and amity. The hare said, “Oh, how I have longed to see this day, in which the weak shall take their place with impunity by the side of the strong.” And after the hare said this, he ran for his life.

Feedback Hi! A small bit of feedback about my experience with Air Costa... My family and I are frequent flyers with Air Costa. We are residents of Eluru, a small town near Vijayawada. The introduction of Air Costa flights from Vijayawada is the best thing that has happened in the recent past. We are now connected with many cities. It is a very comfortable flight. The seats and leg space is better than other airlines. The reception at the Air Costa counter at the airports is warm and cordial. The young and energetic cabin crew brings us joy. On 18th March 2015, I was flying by Air Costa from Hyderabad to Vijayawada. Being 50 plus, I was struggling carrying my hand baggage (a small suitcase) while boarding the flight. Your cabin crew member Mriganka Mallick came rushing down half the steps and helped me carry the baggage. I am very touched with this gesture. I can only say to Mriganka, “God Bless”. It was cabin crew Monica’s first flight. She conducted herself well. Ruksana is another cabin crew member whom I have met several times and she has been very courteous and polite. I would like to fly with Air Costa again and again... Regards, Sarita Lunani President 2012-2013 Association of Inner Wheel Clubs in India
I am from Jammu and I was recently in Chennai to see my son who is studying at the Hindustan University, Pudur. Instead of travelling back to Jammu, I requested my travel agent in Jammu to book me on a flight from Chennai to Jaipur so that I could visit my eldest son studying in Jaipur My flight to Jaipur by Air Costa, gave me immense pleasure. A very beautiful aircraft with good leg space, fitted with comfortable seats, good broad windows giving a full view of the natural beauty outside. A good and hospitable crew. Above all, a beautiful, smooth take off and amazing landing at Jaipur, without any sound of the wheels or of the aircraft. The flight LB634 was piloted by Capt. Ms Josephine to whom I wish to offer my compliments! Above all, the in-flight magazine had a wonderful inspiring Article ‘Mind The Driver’, by the Management Consultant, Dr. M. C. Das. My good wishes to Dr Das and my advice to the Air Costa family is that they must all read this article. May the sectors grow more and more! In case Jammu is on the plan, I would render all the help, whatever is possible of me. Regards, Robert Robin Gill Good, bad, ugly… your feedback is welcome. do write to us at: feedback@aircosta.in

Feelings: Reflectors of Personality
A human being is a bundle of feelings. It is feelings that build or break personalities. They are highly volatile and fluctuating. The physical, psychological and social behaviour of people depend on feelings. Most of the modern diseases are psychosomatic, emanating from stress, which is the result of a negative or over-positive feeling. A person with negative feelings develops anxiety, anger, hatred, complexity and depression. On the other hand, an individual with positive feelings enjoys equanimity, peace, love, simplicity and happiness. The most common feeling in human beings is anger, which is just one letter (D) short of danger. It is the most disastrous feeling that damages the body, mind and interpersonal relations. Bronowsky, a professor from the Arizona University has found, on research that a minute’s anger makes the body lose that much of electricity with which a three-cell battery light can be operated for three months. That’s why generally people feel weak after a burst of anger. Individuals are recognised by their feelings only. An angry person is labelled as a “Firebrand”. An envious person is recognised as a “Green-eyedmonster”. A crooked person is called a “Cunning Jackal”. Similarly, people are recognised by their positive feelings also. A generous person is knows as a “Good Samaritan”. A miserly person is called a “Shylock” and so on. The best way to get rid of negative feelings is to keep on filling the mind with positive feelings. Just give a pause when negative feelings start emerging! Your mind automatically shifts to the positive side. Please try! It is worth trying!
