I

ts safe to say that for a long time DJ bJ has been on the scene. From before he could walk or talk, he was always with his father at his party hall in Queens, ny. being raised in a party hall the thing that young bJ found most intriguing was the music. From the first time he touched the DJ set in that hall he has never stopped. he did his first gig at the young age of 13, and the rest is history. now you can catch DJ bJ spinning at the hottest clubs in orlando! he loves to spin hip-hop but his carribbean background also allows him to spin reggaeton, soca, and reggae very well. but he doesn’t stop there, house, top 40, and disco are also a part of DJ bJ’s repertoire. right now you can catch DJ bJ spinning on First thursdays at tavern on the lake, every other thursday at Club envy, and Fridays and saturdays at element night Club. he also provides free mixtapes on his website at

FLYERPROMONOW presents

an eye on this one. He’s shedding national light on our city! His work is probably bigger than you can imagine!

FAVORITE PARTY MOMENT

Have I told you lately how much I love this city??? The scene is set so perfectly for us young professional. This city has so much to offer…good jobs, beautiful weather, a bubbling entertainment scene, and good looking people. Orlando is a great city to start your career, find your mate, settle down & have kids. BUT-that’s not what Starlet is here for! LOL I’m here to live up the party! While in the streets of nightlife, I have collected a list of favorites from over 2009. Thank you for all that responded to give their input of their favorite moments. Trust my list was extensive, but I was sure to shorten it to those favorite things that matter most to you.

FAVORITE PROMOTER

This year, I am going for the underdogs. Yes, Ricky P, DJ Chino, Hollywood East, & some others are known to rock a party. My favorites are those who bring new experiences. I am not sure of their promotion company’s name, but I go for that girl trio Toni Blair, Brandi Nikole & Porctia Symone. Their events are out of the ordinary; fashionable, thematic, & highly exclusive. They are challenging us to step up our party game…and our wardrobe. I’m ready to see what they bring to 2010.

FAVORITE EVENT

Our promoters certainly stepped their crafts up this year. There were quite a few great parties, but my favorite one was “Boss Affair: DJ Nasty & Ricky P Bday Bash”. I loved this event! It was like going to prom! Everyone was dressed up with their dates & stepped out of limos. Such a beautiful venue, beautiful party, beautiful time! Real BOSS!

FAVORITE DJ

This year was the year of the DJ. We notice DJs taking it to another level, and really setting themselves apart. No other DJ, or conglomerate of DJs, has ever hit the scene like Voice of the Streets. VOS were the Kanye West of DJs, the way they were at every party like Kanye is on every remix! You can catch them about 7 days a week rocking some party. And with their highly anticipated mixtapes that comes out every “1st Tuesdays”, we always know this team will make us dance!

FAVORITE GRAPHIC DESIGNERS FOR CLUB FLYERS

This designer is indescribable, and his work is amazing. When you get a flyer & see people levitating, imaginative objects floating, & other unusual graphics, you know that’s “Beyond Human”. The founder, Dewayne Moore is more than a graphic designer. He is a true artist. Orlando, keep

Allen Iverson blessed us with his presence one night at Roxy’s this past year. Now yes, that was quite a beautiful moment (right ladies??) but my favorite part was the groupies! And I am not talking chicks!!! I’m talking dudes!! I have NEVER seen so many Roosterheads (male Chickenheads) all at once! AI was standing on that stage w/ the pole & mirror (you know where I’m talking about!), but all you could see was dudes all around him. Not his friends or security…our own Orlando dudes!! Quite a sight! Roosterheads, we need to work on that.

FAVORITE CLUB SONG

Without a doubt….”Wasted”, by Gucci Mane. Need I say more?

FAVORITE VENUE

Orlando NEEDED an ultra sexy club! This city is on the fast track, and we need to party like rockstars. Rain Ultra Lounge is a beautiful venue, filled with rocking neon lights, lit up rain bubbles, video shows, & LED glowing bottle menus. Super sexy!

BEST COME UP

Being a promoter is not easy. Most promoters aren’t full time promoters. They have other jobs, & most of the time promoting is just a side hustle. However, when you take that road to Tavern on the Lake each & every single Saturday, you know these boys don’t need no other job! The Firm blew up in 2009. Tavern on the Lake was the most talked about club the entire year. From weekly parties, to their block parties for the holidays, & even that crazy pool party “Relax” they did in the back parking lot! Hey boys…can I borrow a stack??? LOL

WORST COME DOWN

This may be a sensitive subject to some, but you can’t deny the outcome. For a good minute, we knew each month there was that ONE party we could not miss. Girls were dressing & impressing. Guys were fly & smooth. Each month, it was the place to get your shine on…and the place was always over capacity! Nowadays, 1st Tuesdays” at Dragon Room appears to be losing their battle with “Phat Tuesdays” at Antigua. “Phat Tuesdays” is wall to wall each & every Tuesday, & the 1st of the month is double that! What happened???

Like my girl Julia Andrews once said, these are a few of my favorite things. So, now with our favorite 2009 street moments out of our way, it’s time to start collecting for 2010. And you know what that means… LET’S CELEBRATE! Send your invites, flyers, & inquiries to starletinthestreets@gmail.com. Your email could be chosen for posting in next edition & website. www.flyerpromonow.com

MONICA WOULD LIKE TO PRESENT TO YOU

THE MAKINGS OF ME LET’S START WITH HER FOUNDATION. remember, she is from the A - born, raised and never lived anywhere else but Atlanta. so the Jermaine Dupri-produced first single "everytime tha beat Drop" should really come as no surprise." 'beat Drop', for me, is a real good representation of where i'm from," Monica says of the call to the dancefloor she crafted with Atlanta's snap music pioneers, Dem Franchize boyz. "plus i really liked having a record that kids can enjoy. My music has always had a message. i guess it's been just a personality thing - i've always been extremely mature for my age. Always been kind of deep. but sometimes that goes right over the kids' heads. And we all just want to dance and have fun. this is what i live. What i dance to. What i listen to when i'm in my car. so i thought, 'Why wouldn't i sing over it?' " on this foundation, Monica has built quite the reputation for brutal honesty — from “Don’t take it personal (Just one of Dem Days)” to “First night” to “Knock Knock” and “u should’ve Known better.”“My audience respects my honesty,” she reminds us. “they trust that what comes out of my mouth truly comes from my heart.” And falling right in the disc changer with those singles is "sideline ho." in the underdogs-produced dagger, she asks: "Ain't you tired of spending all the holidays alone?"And then comes back and digs deeper with: "it don't matter if he spends the night, his home's somewhere else...if you don't make his breakfast, you's a 'sideline ho!' "Myself, Damon [thomas], harvey [Mason Jr.] and tank came up with that. i was telling tank about a situation where an ex of mine blatantly, openly cheated - as if people didn't know who his girlfriend was! And just the sound of her name would make my flesh crawl. so he was like, 'Well what did you call her?' i said, 'she has no name. she has no importance.' And tank walked back into the room and said, 'the name of this song is 'sideline ho.' "i don't care what people say, people always look at themselves, ask themselves those kinds of questions once somebody cheats. that's just how love works. it doesn't cut off at the sight of a mistake. We're all like, 'Does he live with her now? Do you think they're going to have kids?' Just vulnerable."now that's an adjective rarely used to describe Monica in her decade-plus in the business. not the 24-year-old who was introduced to the world in 1995 on an album titled "Miss thang." "people assume nothing affects me," she concedes. "And i am extremely strong-natured. i stand with both feet planted firmly and don't bend. but i know now sometimes i need to bend. 'hell no' (produced by the grammy-nominated bryan-Michael Cox) shows that side of me that's a lot more sensitive. And vulnerable." And may we add, adaptable. not only does the rapper so fast he's in the guinness book of World records appear on "hell no." but Monica matches twista - zip for zip. "i never thought i would be able to pick up his flow in any shape, form or fashion," she recalls. "but he said the same thing Missy's always saying to me - 'you're a slick talker. you never run out of words.' so he wrote my verse and he rapped it in spaces, in

little bite-sized chunks. And i would rap it back, until i learned it. it took about two hours but i'm so glad i did it. it was a good experience, an example of why my mom always taught us not to use the word 'can't.' At 24 i am still learning lessons." but look at how she’s already applied those lessons, and what she’s become thus far: her loveliness can be heard in one of her fourth CD's vocal standouts: "get Away." the spare, dramatic force begins: "i started out as a little girl. singing songs changed my world." And before you know, Monica's sharing her life with you - inside and out: "i give so much of me/When is time for me to receive? "it's not as easy as it seems/And to think, this was my dream." "Jermaine always knows exactly how i feel about things," Monica says. "And i felt this way most when my first love died. him committing suicide changed my life in a lot of ways. it brought me closer to what i was raised with, which is a Christian family. it brought me closer to god, which is where i need to be. And it made me wish for the first time in my entire life that i was a normal person, with a normal job, who could take time off to grieve. i had to learn to live with my situation in front of the public's eye. but in the recording of this song, i was to myself. in the 11 years i've been in this industry i didn't think such a place existed. And physically i don't think it does. but mentally it's there, in this song." loving pulses through "Doin' Me right," her Missy elliott-produced tribute to a guy who makes seven figures, talks slicker and is an, a-hem, tongue-flicker. "that kind of song is a bit different for me," Monica says playfully. "but if you haven't heard, i have a son. And he didn't get here like Jesus. some things have taken place. And i think the song is a nice way of saying how i certainly feel." "Dozen roses," however, is exactly how she feels. she's in love. "i be losing my mind every time i look at you," she says in another Missy production, made even dreamier by a sample of Curtis Mayfield’s “the Makings of you.” "you've got style just like a bentley coupe.... you're just like my rims, you shine." "like i said, 'Dozen roses' personifies where i am right now," Monica says. "Who i am right now." And to think, much of the Makings of Monica happened right before our eyes: the three million-selling debut and the hit singles - "Don't take it personal (Just one of Dem Days)" and "before you Walk out of My life" - that made her the youngest female artist ever to have two back-to-back no. 1 hits on billboard's r&b singles chart. (both of which also topped its hot 100 pop charts and earned a million in sales.) the million-selling contribution to the 1997 "space Jam" soundtrack "For you i Will." then came her 1998 CD "the boy is Mine," which not only had three consecutive no. 1 billboard pop singles (the title track, "Angel of Mine" and "First night"), but the title track with brandy spent 13 weeks at no. 1 on the pop charts, and 8 at no. 1 on the r&b listing. not to mention the duet earned Monica a grammy to add to her American Music, soul train and billboard Awards. then there was her last millionselling CD "After the storm." All of which she managed while acting in the Mtv movie "love song," the Miramax movie "boys and girls" and most recently, Warner bros/overbrook’s "Atl." the Makings of Me is the least Monica could give you for so much support over so many projects. then again, the Makings of Me is All Monica is. www.flyerpromonow.com

eal 4 real is the Ceo of black Fist records, a rising powerhouse record label in orlando. neal has just recently released his second album entitled "undeniable" which is now creating a major buzz. this rising star has performed at numerous events, and with his brand new hit songs, "too Fast" featuring t. nobles, and "top of the World", hopes to top the charts in 2010. neal 4 real has also started a movement called the black Fist records Movement, and with some of orlando's top DJ's behind him, such as Disco and the City boys, Disco Jr, DJ nitran, and DJ young City, his new movement looks promising to take the industry by storm.

Let the readers know where you're from (born and raised) and how did you get on the path of becoming a music artist?

WELL, YOU KNOW THAT! BORN AND RAISED IN ORLANDO! RIGHT HERE IN ORANGE COUNTY, 407! Everyone in Orlando knows you for air brushing, so you're a true artist in more ways than one. Does that creative energy run in your family?

PRETTY MUCH, I WRITE MY OWN LYRICS, I MAKE A LOT OF MY OWN BEATS, I DESIGN MY OWN ALBUM COVERS, BOOK MY OWN SHOWS. BASICALLY, I SIGNED MYSELF, INSTEAD OF BEING SIGNED BY A RECORD LABEL. I GET OUT ON THE STREETS AND PROMOTE MYSELF. NOW THAT I'VE STARTED THE BLACK FIST MOVEMENT, I GOT OTHER PEOPLE HELPING ME. Who influenced your music career and name some of your favorite artist?

.. . t h ey a s k m e, l is m y n a m e N ea I "f o r r ea l? " S o , t el l 'e m "y ea h l, m y n a m e is N ea e. " fo r r ea l, n o li

PRETTY MUCH, I GOT IT FROM MY MOM, DAD, UNCLES; SO BASICALLY I'VE BEEN DOING ART SINCE I WAS OLD ENOUGH TO HOLD A PENCIL. LIKE JUVENILE SAID, I GOT IT FROM MY MOMMA. {LAUGHS} How did you come up with the name Neal4Real and what does it mean?

BASICALLY, NEAL IS MY NAME AND I AM REAL ABOUT EVERYTHING I DO. A LOT OF PEOPLE SEE (THAT) MY NAME IS NEAL 4 REAL, AND THEY ASK ME, IS MY NAME NEAL "FOR REAL?" SO I TELL 'EM "YEAH, MY NAME IS NEAL, FOR REAL, NO LIE." {LAUGHS}

What makes you different from all the other artist out there?

After Orlando, what other markets do you plan on breaking into and where do you see yourself a year from now.

A YEAR FROM NOW, I'LL BE DOING A LOT OF SHOWS AROUND THE STATE, AND HOPEFULLY AND AROUND THE WORLD, AND SELLING ALBUMS. When is the album dropping and where can we find your music?

By: Oleika

?

FLYER PROMO N OW & TALKOF ORLANDO .COM PRESENTS THIS WEEK’S TALK OF ORLANDO,

Your latest project that you are working on, how did you get hooked up with DJ Elementz from Allpro DJ’s?

Well actually, I first heard about DJ Elementz at an Orlando nightclub where I later discovered was part of the AllPro movement. We linked up and told him about the project that I was working on and asked if he and Prosytle would like to be part of it. DJ Elementz believed in me and my music and decided to work with me. It has been said that art imitates life; do you feel that your music imitates your life?

Of course I feel my music imitates my life. I believe music is and should be a reflection of every artist's life. For me, I put my all into my music and reflect on my past, the different situations I've been in and of course the good times.

YOUNG B,

Out of all the songs you have dropped, what song best represents Young B.?

I HAD THE PLEASURE TO INTERVIEW YOUNG B RECENTLY. YOUNG B IS A DYNAMIC UP AND COMING DJ THAT HAS BEEN SETTING THE LOCAL ORLANDO CLUB SCENE ON FIRE. YOUNG B HAILS ORIGINALLY FROM THE EAST SIDE OF JACKSONVILLE. THAT’S RIGHT...DUVAL COUNTY. YOUNG B MOVED TO ORLANDO TO NETWORK WITH OTHER DJ’S AND PROMOTERS IN A LARGER MEDIA MARKET. CATCH YOUNG B

Hands down it has to be "Street Dreams" off my third mix tape, "Eastside Story 2" because it’s based off me growing up from the person I use to be, to the person I am working to become to putting me and my peoples in a better situation. So I definitely have to go with that one.

8 RECENTLY RELEASE MIX TAPES. IN SITTING DOWN WITH YOUNG B FOR THE INTERVIEW I FIND HE IS CONFIDENT AND HAS A GREAT DEAL OF HUMILITY. WHEN YOU DIG DEEPER

Out of the producers that you have worked with, who would you say has been the most supportive of your work?

ON THE UNDERGROUND SCENE AND PICK UP ONE OF HIS HOT

INTO HIS PERSONALITY YOU WILL ALSO FIND THAT HE IS AN UNDERCOVER COMEDIAN. BUT WHEN IT COMES TO THE WHEELS OF STEEL HE IS NO JOKE. YOUNG B IS DRIVEN, AMBITIOUS AND PASSIONATE ABOUT HIS MUSIC. IN SPEAKING WITH HIM, YOU CAN FEEL HIS ENTHUSIASM, BRILLIANCE, AND ENERGY. YOUNG B IS QUICKLY BECOMING THE TALK OF ORLANDO, SO GET TO KNOW HIM.

Out of everybody I would have to say my producer Dred, We have known each other ever since high school. We have been through a lot together; he has given me a lot of advice over the past couple of years and has been the one to give that guidance.

Photos courtesy of Rita Ri.

What is it about your music that you want people to know about you?

I would say my creativeness and energy that I put into every song and in every aspect of my music. Once you hear the music, it will definitely speak for itself.

Within the industry it has been said that “Orlando” entertainers don’t want to help each other. Do you feel this is a true statement?

Nah, I definitely don’t believe that. As you know Orlando has a big market for up and coming artists, so I see a lot of collaboration among us. As far as nightlife in Orlando, the Runners are here, DJ Nasty is here, Prostyle is here, this city in on the rise and I definitely don’t see a division in Orlando.

What are some of the venues that your fans can come check you out? Any tours lined up?

No tours lined up as of yet, but I am having an album release party April 2010 in Jacksonville, FL at Bourbon Street nightclub. You can definitely catch me there it’s gone be a movie all the appearances I’m setting up. For more details you can go to my MySpace page for an address, and contact information.

I see that you have collaborated with several well known artists here in Orlando; outside of yourself who would you say has the most talent?

Lol. Everybody is doing their thing. I listen to everybody's music real talk, but I’m mostly riding to Wes Fif, he got a couple mix tapes out that’s on point. I can’t lie it seems like he stay working because every other month he got something new dropping and that’s my kind of grind…so I feel that.

What do you think is the most important thing that any local artist should do to enhance their career?

Definitely the most important thing a local artist should do is invest money in themselves. Don’t hesitate to go all out. Always make sure everything is top of the line and have the ability to network with people that can elevate your career to a higher level such as DJ's, radio personality, etc…

Any last words or special shout outs?

Gotta shout out my in house fam Dred, Cheke, the badguy, Esmie, Miss Lexxa with 99Jamz, Bigga Rankin up in Duval. Everybody involved with my American Dream CD, DJ Elementz, DJ Prostyle, Wes Fif, Papa Duck, Young Cash, Ace Hood, PI Bang, Drop, Lex Luger, Mev the Producer also DJ Lady T and can’t forget FlyerPromonow and TalkofOrlando.com. ur hearts go out to haiti despite the negative publicity surrounding Wyclef's relief efforts with his organization non-profit yele. We wish all families and victims the best. Kanye and Amber rose donned fur while gracing Fashion Week in paris. petA's vice president, Dan Mathews, went in on the couple

A weekly Entertainment, Legal News & Advice column from Shannon A. Ligon, The Entertainment & Legal Diva And on to some much needed advice... Dear shannon, valentines is around the corner and i am in a bind. i don't know how or if i should discuss things with the guy i am a dating. i don't want to get my feelings hurt over a silly holiday. -needing love on v-Day Dear Needing Love: Valentine's Day like Christmas is the ultimate test of relationships; it helps determine the validity of the relationship. It's not about the gifts; but about whether the person you're seeing truly considers you his counterpart and wants to commit to spending special time with you. If you can muster up the confidence to speak about making plans for Valentine's then go ahead and face the music. If your mate's unresponsive or trying to shy away from making plans with you; take it as blessing that you're learning your place sooner than later. I hope you all the best.

hen the Superbowl approaches it will be a bittersweet moment. It's what I've been waiting for all season, but at the same time it marks the end. Of course there is still basketball and I can't forget about the All-Star game. I'll focus on that in another issue. But let me first remind you that I am an east coast girl so you already know who I'm rooting for. Since my Patriots are out of Superbowl contension and I am sincerely a football fan I need to pick a team to root for. I've decided I'm going with Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings. I predict that the Vikings, will go to what some call DREW Orleans LaBREESiana, Brett Favre and pull off a win. The Vikings are a good team on both sides of the ball which is key to winning any game much less a Championship. I am also going to go as far as saying that the Vikings beat the Colts for the coveted Lombardi trophy. So, there you have it, my SuperBowl prediction is Vikings vs Colts with Vikings coming out on top. I think Favre deserves it and hell maybe he will even retire for good this time. Manning versus Favre is what a SuperBowl should look like anyway. So, my prediction is made now we'll just have to see if it falls into place. Anyone willing to take bets follow me on Twitter and DM me, we will talk business. Obviously I predict that the Colts will beat the Jets in their Championship game. However, if Darrelle Revis has anything to do with it, it won't be easy. Revis has matched up with some of the best Wideouts in the league this season, including but not limited to, Marques Colston, Randy Moss, T.O.,

34

and Indy's own Reggie Wayne. No one had more than five catches and only one scored a touchdown. I say Revis is positively a candidate for the best cornerback in the NFL. If Revis sticks to what he's great at, Indy will be forced to run and the Jets do have an awesome defense.

Darrelle Revis

FLAG ON THE PLAY This isn't a big enough deal to warrant a 30 Second Timeout. As a matter of fact it is old news. But, since I could see where he was coming from I didn't find it necessary to put him in timeout. Now that I have learned the numbers I feel that Marcus Jordan deserves a flag on the play for refusing to wear the UCF sponsored Adidas. I get that his daddy is Air Jordan himself and it would look bad. But considering that you average only 5.4 points per game, you are costing the team $37,037 per game. Which totals to a $3 million loss for UCF. I respect you for sticking to your guns so I didn't give you a timeout. But if you're going to cost the team and school that much money you should at least be making it worth it. IN THE HUDDLE Pete Carroll former USC football Head Coach was recently hired as the Seattle Seahawks Head Coach. Olympia High School Alum Chris Johnson was voted into the NFL Pro Bowl. Upcoming events: I haven't decided whether I'm going to attend the SuperBowl or All-Star, hell I might even do both. Either way I plan on keeping you abreast with the latest. Until then smooches. Marcus Jordan
