Welcome.
I first heard about the "Faces of" concept in 2016 from a publisher out of Omaha, NE. They had created a magazine that helps promote local business by featuring a "Face" of a specific business type (e.g. "Face of Architecture"). This publisher found that the publication was able to connect community members with local Omaha businesses. From there, I talked to other publishers and wanted to see how the publication was received in their markets. Overall, we found that the feedback was really great in those regions, too.
Of course, I love and will always champion the idea of promoting community. That's why in 2021, we decided to bring this concept to the Fargo-Moorhead-West Fargo, and Bismarck-Mandan communities. And in 2022, we continued to create this publication in those markets while also bringing the concept to Sioux Falls. We have continued providing this publications in these communities ever since.
At all of our stops along the way, we have received such great feedback that we are bringing it back once again.
We hope you enjoy this publication and take the opportunity to get to know some of the people behind this thriving business community.
In 14 years, we have been able to create over 500 magazines. All of which are solely based on telling
positive community stories! This is another piece to that puzzle and I truly believe you will enjoy reading about your friends and neighbors in the ensuing pages.
This publication is considered a "native advertising piece" in the publishing industry. This means that each "Face of" is a sponsored page and paid for by that advertiser. However, this is not a "Best of" publication—it is simply a way for our community to see some of the "Faces" of respective businesses. In turn, we are connecting our readers to businesses they may not even be aware of.
By making this a sponsored magazine, we were able to produce the publication at a high quality and provide 32,000 copies free to the public. Our sales and editorial teams tried to ensure that we reached out to credible "Faces" of the categories we chose. Community Resource Officer Brady Lieuwen and Therapy Dog Leo Sioux Falls Police Department
Sioux Falls is a fantastic city with incredible people. The police department receives tremendous support from the citizens, and officers work hard to uphold the trust provided.
An essential part of making Sioux Falls a great place to live is keeping citizens and visitors safe. The Sioux Falls Police Department is a key part of that mission, but the police officers don’t just respond to and reduce crime—they are an important part of the community.
The police department has been involved in community policing for several decades. Community policing can take many forms, but ultimately it’s about connecting the community to officers. By removing barriers and opening lines of communication, citizens can feel comfortable working with police to prevent and solve crime.
The police department is proud to sponsor multiple community outreach programs, and Community Resource Officer Brady Lieuwen is a driving force behind many of those programs.
Officer Lieuwen’s duties include connecting and interacting with the community. He works directly with programs such as the New Immigrant Citizen Education, Community Ambassador Program, the Citizen's Police Academy, Coffee with a Cop, and several others.
In 2023, the Sioux Falls Police Department created a therapy dog program with the primary focus of assisting police officers in a therapeutic nature. Leo, a golden retriever, completed his therapy dog certification in February 2024.
While Leo’s main job is providing therapeutic assistance to officers, there are times when he will attend community outreach functions that may include visits to local schools and getting spotted at various community events like National Night Out.

Southeast Technical College (STC) takes “learning by doing” to the next level. STC opened its stateof-the-art Healthcare Simulation Center in 2024, complete with advanced simulation technology that includes high-fidelity simulator manikins, virtual reality systems, and interactive learning modules that provide a dynamic learning experience where students can sharpen their skills, refine their techniques, and navigate realistic scenarios.

Kristin Possehl said that the technology in the Healthcare Simulation Center mirrors what is found in hospital and
clinical settings, where many students will work after graduation.
“We have a simulated emergency room, intensive care units, clinical exam rooms, surgical suites, hospital patient rooms, and medical laboratory facilities,” said Possehl. “Students will be training alongside students of other disciplines and learn to clarify roles, communicate effectively, mutually respect, and be in tune to situational awareness with one another and various care settings.”
The center, located in the former Zeal building, became a reality with financial support from industry and community
partners, including Avera Health, Sanford Health, Forward Sioux Falls, Sioux Falls Development Foundation, and the State of South Dakota.
“The collaborative nature of this project is really something special,” STC President Bob Griggs said. “The Healthcare Simulation Center exemplifies public and private organizations working together to fill a community need,"— that being a vital need for more healthcare professionals.
“Our mission at Southeast Tech is ultimately centered around filling workforce needs,” Griggs said. “We are hopeful that the additional space created by a new building
on campus will allow us to admit more students, increase enrollment, and produce more healthcare professionals for the region.”
