LOVE LANGUAGE?

W

hen February hits and Valentine’s Day season is in the air, I always get a bit mushy. This month, I’m feeling soft and full of love from my friends from college, Fargo friends, work-family, actual family, pets and especially my wonderful fiancé, Keenan.

In 1992, author and radio talk show host Gary Chapman published the book “The Five Love Languages: How to Express Heartfelt Commitment to Your Mate.” In this book, he outlines that there are five love languages and that everyone has a primary and a secondary love language that rules how they give and receive love.

Here are some (local!) ways to use the five love language theory to treat that someone special.

1. Acts of Service Spending an afternoon volunteering together is a great, out-of-the-ordinary date option. A few options include serving and organizing at Emergency Food Pantry, cooking meals at the Ronald McDonald House or playing with the dogs and cats at Homeward or 4 Luv of Dog. 2. Words of Affirmation According to the quiz, words of affirmation is my number one love language. I suppose, me being a writer and all, this makes sense. While verbal words are always cherished, one way you can remind your loved one of how much you admire them is through written notes. Zandbroz Variety has a number of stationary options that are ideal for writing sweet messages on.

3. Receiving Gifts To me, gifts are not about accumulating physical things, but the fact that someone I love saw something out in the world and purchased it for me because they thought I’d enjoy it.

When giving gifts, the more personal the better. Whether that means some engraved jewelry, their favorite candle scent or luggage to bring on your travels together; give a gift with some thought put into it.

4. Quality Time That being said...the older I get, the more I appreciate quality time over physical gifts. My fiancé and I have gotten in the habit of giving each other concert tickets as a way to gift quality time together. A favorite “date” of ours is planning a weekend getaway to a nearby city, all centered around a concert. Luckily with venues like The Aquarium, Sanctuary, The Fargo Theater and Scheels Arena, there’s always a great concert to go attend together here in town, as well.

5. Physical Touch At least for me, a massage is rarely a gift that I will give myself, but it is a gift that I always want. For your loved one, consider giving them the gift of physical touch with a pampering massage.

I

t was almost three years ago that I took Erin Slack on our first date. She was a tough cookie to crack at first and that made some amount of sense. We had been talking since January of that year and she had just gotten out of a bad relationship (putting it lightly). It maybe didn’t help that we were five years apart, me 23 and her 18. That looks odd to many on paper. Despite my being as polite and gentlemanly as I could all the time with her, she would never agree to go on a date.

Not to profile my full dating history, but I maybe had one serious girlfriend my entire life before I met Erin. I think part of that was how horribly awkward I was and the fact that I guess I didn’t endlessly pursue anything. In retrospect, I guess I don’t care why I never had that mindset.

So with limited experience in the dating world, I was stepping outside my comfort zone with this whole situation. Even talking to a girl was hard enough for me. Finally, after a month or so of convincing, she agreed to go on a date. We decided to go to Babb’s, a nice, quaint location for a first date, right?

I was late. I’m never late for anything. She had already bought her own coffee, which upset me because the guy is supposed to do that. Needless to say, the date did not get off on the right foot. On top of that, remember that bad relationship she had before meeting me? That guy inexplicably turned up at Babb’s while we were there.

Her mood changed and it made the date more awkward than it already was (all first dates are awkward).

Never the less, I think we were still drawn to each other. She thought I was weird (which is accurate) and I liked her nose ring (there

were other things I liked Erin, but this was a big one in the beginning and I’m being funny). We started hanging out more and more. I took her to B.D.S. Books, one of my havens in town. I just don’t take any old person there, trust me.

By May we decided to make it “official” and in June she was my date to a wedding and we took our first trip together (a getaway to Medora). I worked in Bismarck the first summer we were together and I would drive back to Fargo to see her every weekend.

When I moved back to Fargo after the summer, I moved in with her. The rest is kind of history, I suppose.

We still live together with a lazy cat and there is no shortage of “date nights” we haven’t seen since that day at Babb’s almost three years ago. It can be simple things like sushi or wild things like going to Winnipeg together. Each “date” we share together is special to me and I cherish them all. It also helps that I get to go home each day and see her face, our life is basically one long date. I wouldn’t trade that for anything.

For me, a guy who did have much luck in dating, I would say I struck the jackpot.

Looking back on it, that day at Babb’s could have gone so many ways, but I would never do it over again. That date led me to what I have now and that is a lifetime worth of date nights with the most amazing person ever.

2019 was a season of questions for North Dakota State football. Was this program in rebuilding mode? With a new coach, a new quarterback and a host of new faces on both sides of the ball, the rest of the FCS was salivating at the thought of knocking the Bison from their perch. But what ensued in 2019? The Bison only won 16 games That new quarterback? He was named the Walter Payton Award winner...as a redshirt freshman. Perhaps most importantly, the FCS programs that were hungry to knock the Bison out were left licking their wounds as the Bison devoured opponents en route to their eighth title in nine seasons. Not bad for a rebuild, huh?

It’s a massive misnomer that one can be under 21 and not have fun in Fargo-Moorhead. Those that say that are just not looking hard enough at what the community has to offer for those who are not of age to go into a bar or have an alcoholic drink. For those who are not able to do that, there are a host of fun options for date night. From taking in one of Fargo’s most notable landmarks to enjoying an evening at the bowling alley, there is certainly enough for a very fun date night. Try some of these date ideas if you’re stuck in the rut of being under 21.

There are few landmarks in the city that compare to the Fargo Theatre. The sign outside is one of the legendary marks in the state of North Dakota and has spawned countless Instagram photos.

However, have you ever been inside to see a movie or a show? While many in our community hold the Theatre in high regard, a great deal have never been inside for an event. The good thing for you and your partner is that the Fargo Theatre is not a 21 and over venue.

From the most popular movies to concerts to comedy shows, the Fargo Theatre is a perfect place for it all.

Couple that with it’s mystique and classic interior and you will have an unforgettable date.

Video games and interactive fun drives the millennial crowd nowadays and that crosses over into the dating scene for those under 21. Retro video games are making a comeback and gaining popularity by the day. Fargo is no stranger to that trend with a few places to enjoy classic (and current video games). Fargo Pinball is traditionally a member-only club, but through the Fargo-Moorhead Visitors Center, you can get a visitors card for just $10. Replay Games is not just a video game store in Downtown Fargo, but they also allow you to play video games there for an hourly fee.

Lastly, Thunder Road features a classic arcade full of great games. On top of that, you can challenge your date to a laser tag war. Once the weather warms up, Thunder Road also offers go-karts, batting cages, bumper cars and one of the best mini-golf courses in the area.

Sports are something everyone can bond over in one way or another. Regardless of if your allegiances lie with a specific team or not, many dates revolve around sports. The great thing about local sporting events is that there is no age restriction, all you have to do is pay the price of admission. The Fargo Force is one of the hottest tickets in town, especially for those huge hockey fans. The Force’s schedule runs through April (not including playoffs), so there is no shortage of chances to see them. North Dakota State athletics offers several sports to enjoy throughout the winter and into spring.

The men’s and women’s basketball teams play until March while track & field, baseball and softball all play until the end of the school year. Once summer hits, do not forget to check out the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks too.

Bowling is a sport everyone can get on board with. You don’t have to have any acute athletic ability or talent to be at least semi-good at bowling. Fargo-Moorhead has several bowling alleys that are perfect for an under 21 date (or even a first date for that matter). Not to mention, many of the bowling alleys offer student discounts if you happen to be in college. There are few things sweeter than getting free entertainment for a petty price (or even free in some cases). In that sense, you really cannot go wrong with bowling if you’re a budget-conscious, under 21 college kid.

Maybe try dinner and ax-throwing next time. While that may sound weird on a surface level, the experience would be a great way for a couple to explore new things Fargo-Moorhead has to offer.

Everyone strives to be fit and you may even enjoy working out with your significant other at one of the area’s many local fitness facilities. However, you can’t necessarily call Monday, International Chest Day, a real date. While bench pressing and deadlifting with your partner is fun, we advise you to explore a different kind of fitness. This brand does not require you to rack your weights when you’re done either.

Conquer Ninja in Fargo is perfect for those fitness enthusiasts who are looking for an endurance and agility challenge. They offer forth “ninja” style obstacle courses similar to the famous “Ninja Warrior” television series. Not only will this obstacle course be a challenge, but it is a fun way to compete against your partner. Nothing says “great date” quite like an obstacle course.

You don’t have to know how to use an ax to be able to throw it a target. That is what makes Triple Ax such a fun and different date for you and your partner. The only venue like it in Fargo-Moorhead, Triple Ax, will pit you and your partner against one another to see how is the best ax marksperson. Targets are set up a specific distance away and all you have to do is aim and throw. Be advised, it is not as easy as it looks and it may take you some time to get the hang of throwing an ax (unless you are a lumberjack, of course). Triple Ax even offers ax-throwing leagues if you and your partner become expert throwers.

When the cold weather hits, most of us hole up in our homes and find a nice blanket to curl up with to keep warm. While there is no shame in that option, why not challenge the winter for your next date? Snowshoeing is a great way to stay in shape during the winter while also enjoying the chillier weather if you’re into that sort of thing.

With the copious amounts of snow Fargo accumulates over the course of the winter, it makes the local parks a perfect place to snowshoe and explore. The Edgewood Chalet (operated by Fargo Parks District) has snowshoe routes and trails as well as snowshoe rentals during the winter season.

Obviously, make sure to dress warmly too!

Golf is obviously not in season during the winter months, so how can one get in the golfing mood when the courses are not open? There are several indoor golfing venues that give the impression of actually being on the links. Golf Addiction has five PGA Tour Simulators which allow you to play a host of courses from around the country. It also accurately projects how far and how accurate you’re hitting the ball. Don’t worry, if you shank one into the rough, Golf Addictions does have a full bar for you to forget about those duffers.

If you and your partner are into gaming or are looking for something different for a date, Section Nine, a cyber cafe in Fargo offers a host of virtual reality experiences. Powered by Gravity Gaming, virtual reality gaming is gaining popularity across the gaming community. Section Nine has co-op stations so you and your significant other can play together. Section Nine also has a variety of gaming to partake in outside of virtual reality.

Breaking the ice is the hardest thing to do on a date, regardless of how long you and your partner have been together. This is most challenging when couples are going on their first date. In most cases, the first date is the first actual meeting between two people and that can be intimidating for, well, everyone. Nowadays, the dating world revolves around social media and online dating apps like Tinder, Bumble and everything in between. This forces people to converse with one another on an intimate level before they even meet. However, what happens when that elusive date happens? Where do you go? And what do you talk about? Beer is a great equalizer in the dating world. Good brews (and alcohol in general) usually loosen any tension or jitters that can come with a first date. The conversations flow easier and potential couples are able to settle in more when a beer is involved.

Atmosphere also plays into this too as bars are usually bustling with activity and people enjoying themselves. While the traditional bar atmosphere may be a little “harsh” or “in your face” for a first date, any of the local breweries in town are perfect places to meet for the first time. Each offers forth enough personal space to carry on a conversation easily while still hosting an atmosphere of fun. Not to mention, you get a pretty good beer out of it too, as compared to sipping on a more traditional beer (no offense to domestic tappers out there). Two things are almost guaranteed to get a conversation on a first date: alcohol and caffeine. If alcohol is not really your style or if you’re looking to go on a first date during the day, local coffee shops are a perfect place to meet up. There is no shortage of fantastic artisan coffee shops in Fargo-Moorhead. As compared to your typical coffee shops like Starbucks, the local places here offer forth more complex beverages and a less crowded atmosphere to get to know one another. Who knows, after your cup of coffee, you may be wanting to grab a beer to keep the date going. Coffee shops are the perfect locale to break the ice.

At Deaner’s Diner, they have a host of scratch-made pies to choose from. On this day, we went with the rhubarb custard pie. Complete with a crumbly and flaky crust, this pie features a good sweetness from the custard which is balanced out by the rhubarb. Even if you are not a fan of rhubarb, it should not deter you from having this delectable slice.

Picture this: you have a romantic night out planned for you and your beloved.

You have a blueprint for a perfect evening. You’ll begin with a shared meal at your favorite Downtown Fargo eatery followed by some cocktails to enjoy together or a shopping spree at a local boutique. You pull up onto Broadway… and wonder where to park. I’m certain most of the downtown neighborhood’s residents and visitors can relate to this situation. I think for some there is a perception that downtown might be short on parking, or that spots are hard to find. In reality, that simply isn’t the case.

Almost every restaurant or storefront has its own dedicated space to accommodate customers. On-street parking and surface lots are plentiful in most places. The downtown district is different. It’s a true urban neighborhood, and the location of its parking reflects that.

The results were clear. There was a parking deficit in the core area of downtown of roughly 500 spaces. The Roberts Commons (or RoCo for short) garage opened in June 2017.

RoCo accommodates parking for more than 450 cars, and dozens of bicycles as well. It also incorporated a user-friendly model, operating fee-free in the evenings and on weekends. Parking is also free on evenings and weekends at the Civic Ramp along 4th Street N. The two ramps allow any visitor to the downtown neighborhood to park within a five-minute walk of any potential destination. Parking is only becoming more accessible.

downtown neighborhood by November of this year. Not only is it adding more parking, but it’s closer to many downtown eateries and shops. The mixed-use ramp will also be home to commercial and residential spaces thanks to the City’s partners.

The public-private partnership model used when making the ramps helps enrich the downtown as well by spurring additional development. After parking in the RoCo ramp, you’re only steps away from new boutiques, eateries and other shops.

This walkability is one of our downtown’s attributes which make it a regional destination. The Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) deserves some commendation as well, for keeping sidewalks and crosswalks clear and traversable following even the nastiest of winter storms.

The next time you’re at the beginning of a magical night with your special someone, a girls’ night out or just a quick bite in the downtown, consider the parking ramps.

There is plenty of space, they are usually free and with all of the action-packed into the downtown, you never know what new experience you might discover during a short stroll. With plentiful parking, even in the middle of winter, Fargo’s arts and entertainment core can truly offer far more.

People: Good relationships are vital for good health. Even introverts need people!

Focus on getting to know your work family. There will always be moments of conflict, but learning how to move through disagreements with grace is not just a work skill, but a life skill. Have good conversations that are not just about work. Involve real family and work families in events. Have fun! I believe we all deserve to enjoy life, and if we look around with a sense of wonder and gratitude, you can always find something to enjoy, even in your cubicle!

I’ve been around long enough to have witnessed the construction of Essentia Hospital and the new Sanford Hospital.

Both are masterpieces of intentional design for employee and patient care. On a much smaller scale, I designed Catalyst to be cozy, welcoming and full of natural light and local art.

How can you help build a healthy culture at work? Remember, or discover your WHY at work. Get to know your colleagues. Make your space enjoyable and productive. Develop good healthy habits at work. Enjoy and celebrate your successes, and be grateful for the team that helps you achieve them.

his month we are celebrating our 10th Annual Unglued: Craft Fest and met up with Ben Brick who designed our epic poster this year!

Tell us about yourself: I do branding work through our collaboration in Bismarck called “The Goodkids”. My wife and son claim most of my spare time. We watch Mr. Rogers, explore the neighborhood and throw dance parties to my son’s Mickey Mouse record.

We know how to have a good time.

Describe what you create under BRICK? I’ve heard it’s vintage, fun, yet dark.

One person described it as crashing the American dream, which I hope is true. I take inspiration from old Boys Life magazines and Hannah Barbara cartoons and do my best to blend it with satire.

Tell us about your illustration process: It tends to be a little fluid but here’s the most common. On cheap paper, I scribble a mess until I realize I have no idea what I’m

doing. So, I usually act it out with a camera to get a rough idea. It’s never cool to have a stache of awkwardly dramatic poses of yourself but you have to do what works for you. From here, I rough in composition using the reference photos. Then, I like to ink with a brush or Wacom tablet depending on the look we are going for.

After that, I color or halftone in photoshop.

A big part of every project’s process is a distinct moment where I hate everything about it and I don’t know if I can make it work. But it’s really important to push through that feeling. Work on it till you’re about 90 percent happy with it, then ship it!

Favorite medium to work with: Ink - I have always been a fanboy of cartoonists like Milton Caniff, Dr. Suess, Darwyn Cooke. When I started I ruined at

least 100 sketches, but now, I don’t even really like my pencil work until there’s that nice contrast of ink on top of it!

What is your favorite thing about having a maker business?

I love disrupting “The way it’s always been done”. One thing I noticed - when you have a day job it can be very difficult to move in the opposite direction of the crowd. Being the boss makes it infinitely easier to tackle problems in your unique way which is extremely important.

Ashley Morken is a brainstorming champ and so much fun to work with. I mainly tried not to mess up her vision. 10 years is a really big deal and I was extremely flattered to be a part of it.

Word that best describes you?

Scamp - I’ve heard this a few times and I can’t help but hope it’s true.

I didn’t really have a story in mind when I made it but if I did it would go a little like this:

How do you stay inspired to create?

Learning and introspection. I just got done researching artists like Franz Kline and my wheels have been spinning all day to find a way to use those beautifully chaotic lines.

There once lived a crafter who hated being a princess. It was so boring and predictable, all she wanted to do was make arts and crafts for her animal friends, but she had no supplies. Every day she would look down at the Unglued fest wishing she could be a part of their world and maybe even one day have a little booth of her own, but this was not possible. The evil king Bison Piñata hated

What advice would you have given yourself 10 years ago?

Pick something you want to do with your life in a 10-minute brainstorm and stick to

craft supplies and forbid her from using them, sticking her in the highest bell tower.

One day her talking bird friend encouraged her. “Go to the Unglued Fest already,” he said with a weird lisp. “Live your dreams.”

It took some convincing but when she finally found enough sheets she climbed down. There she discovered the king enjoying the fest and a cold glass of glitter.

Little did she know, the king was hoarding all the craft supplies for his very own and he didn’t do heck with any of it.

“To think,” she thought. “All that creativity just waiting to come out.”

That’s only chapter one, of course, but you get the idea.

How do you feel the community can best support makers?

I think most makers rely on word of mouth and encouragement. Makers spend a lot of time alone with their craft and usually need help with these two things. If you want to see more of someone’s work in your community, be an advocate.

Allow me to introduce you to an exceptional person I was fortunate to collaborate with during summer 2016.

Officer Michael Bloom, originally from California, chose to call Fargo home a decade ago and chose a valiant vocation: law enforcement. The fascinating aspect of Officer Bloom is that within this complex occupation he is a Community Trust Officers (CTO) making him work very closely with the youth, which is how we got to collaborate in the Jefferson neighborhood.

Officer Bloom uses his love for rapping to impact and connect with the youth. This is why he composed songs with Billboard artist DPB called UNITY in December 2017 and IT’S TIME in November 2018.

If you ever cross his humble path you will be drawn to him because of his infectious smile and care for others The youth of Fargo are lucky to have such a Community Trust Officers using all his skills and gifts to keep them safe!

Tell us your story of coming to the Fargo/Moorhead area?

In 2007 I realized I needed more in my life than just school and sports. I wanted more in my life. At the time I was living in Modesto, California, and was totally unhappy with how my life was going.

I remember making a faith step and turning my life over to Jesus. It was at that moment I just felt like I needed to live for something more, although at the time I didn’t know what that looked like. My sister was living in Moorhead at the time and I felt like I should try some new scenery and made to the move to the Midwest.

Where did your love for serving the community as Law Enforcement come from?

This passion really began while I was working as a Corrections Officer at the Cass County Jail. It was at that time I started to realize I loved helping people navigate through their problems. I wanted to invest in a community of people that many forget about and I knew if I jumped ship at the jail and went to the PD I could expand my influence and also grow more as a person.

Why do you care so much about the youth?

Youth have a soft spot on my heart. I meet so many kids who did not ask for the 58 | FEBRUARY 2020 | FARGOMONTHLY.COM

circumstances they are currently living in, but because of poor family choices they are stuck in a hard place. Youth need to know they still have a purpose in life no matter what they are going through. I just want to keep helping Youth discover their purpose and chase their goals.

How can people get involved with the work you do?

Call the Police Department (701) 235-4493 and ask for my voicemail. I will do my best to get back to someone within the same week that they call. People reach out a lot with ideas of collaboration. Sometimes we can make something work and sometimes it’s not the right fit for our programming.

It’s wonderful to meet new people.

How is the FM area doing when comparing with your colleagues around the nation working in similar rural communities?

The whole metro area is a special place.

Just look at Giving Hearts Day for example. We have one day where a whole community comes together to give for a cause that will change so many lives.

Fargo specifically is on the same page

as a community that people matter. Our local schools have great Principles that we partner with and many non-profit groups are doing excellent work in our city.

Groups like Charism, Boys and Girls Club, and Legacy Children’s Foundation are all doing an excellent job to help the youth of our city.

Where did this passion for rapping come from? Why is it important for the work you do?

I have loved rap music since I could remember. I used to rap with a Karaoke machine when I was six years in my living room most mornings when I wasn’t in school. So many of the youth that I work with share my passion for Hip-Hop music.

I have learned to reach the audience you trying to impact you have to learn what language they speak. Many kids speak raps language. They relate to it, dream of doing it themselves someday, or just love to dance and make videos to show on social media. I think rap is greatest tool that I have to network with kids.

What stereotype from the Law Enforcement would like to change?

Why?

I want people to know that Officers care about them regardless of what they have done. I feel like many people see Officers as people who do not always care about their communities, and this is just not the case. I have seen to many acts of bravery and community support in our department. Time after time our Officers go above and beyond the call of duty to help people.

What would you like the world to know about the Fargo/Moorhead area?

The FM area is not just a community, but a family. From saving each other’s homes during major floods or rallying around great organizations to help them meet the needs of people, our city cares for the needs of others. That is something you won’t find in every community.

his cookie has a story, as most foods do. This is especially true when you find yourself making something you haven’t made in a long time. These memories were stirred up by a recent request to make a Spanish cookie for an art exhibit. Immediately, this recipe came to mind though I hadn’t made it in years. A sweet, crunchy, slightly citrus almond cookie with the simplest of ingredients, shared with me by a friend from Spain.

I highly encourage everyone to meet people from other parts of the world or even other parts of the country. Learn about their culture, food and their story.

Many foods have been introduced to me by my Spanish friend, Enrique. We met when he moved to Fargo to attend NDSU. He showed me how to make chorizo in a cupboard in my garage (I still consider this to be one of the bravest things I’ve ever done), cook my first (and currently only) octopus and we made these cookies at Square One before it officially opened.

Moscovitas Memories associated with this recipe brought me to a very grateful state of mind. Remembering all our friends helping as we ripped up carpet, tack strips, tore down walls, built new walls and painted Square One so my culinary incubator dreams could be a reality.

It was tedious and hard work but our friends gladly showed up to help us out.

This showcases how making a specific food or dish can bring you back and make you think about things you may have not thought about in a while.

When we made these cookies before opening, there was nothing inside the walk-in cooler - not even shelves. The concrete was freshly painted and I had made some very bold paint choices for the walls. Let’s just say my style has been refined since then. Though my memory may be quite awful at times, all these images came back to me quickly when I fired up the oven to make these crispy sweets again.

What is this cookie that has brought me to think about grateful and wonderful experiences? That’s a good question!

It’s moscovitas. These cookies hail from Asturias, a region in northwest Spain.

They are very well known there and I hope to someday travel to Spain to compare mine to the OG moscovitas.

Once again, we are focusing on simple ingredients, prepared together to create something delicious. Food doesn’t need to be fussy to be delightful. Don’t get me wrong though, there are some mighty fussy foods that are well worth the effort!

• Prep Time: 15 minutes • Bake Time: 12-15 minutes • Yield: 16-20 cookies

Ingredients: • • • • • •

100 grams Whole Almonds, raw 100 grams Sugar 100 grams Cream Zest of 1 Orange 20 grams All-Purpose Flour 125 grams Chocolate (dark or milk, your preference)

Directions • In a 350-degree oven, toast almonds on a baking sheet in a single layer for 8-10 minutes until fragrant and starting to brown, shake the pan at about 5 minutes to stir the almonds. While the almonds are toasting measure out 20 grams of flour in a small bowl. In a separate microwave-safe bowl, measure out 125 grams of chocolate. If you are using a chocolate bar, cut/shave it into thin strips using a knife to help it melt more easily.

• Line 2 baking sheets with parchment or silicone mats.

• Place toasted almonds in a food processor and process until the pieces are similar in size to dried rice. Be sure not to over blend as it will become almond butter!

• Reduce heat to 325F. • Weigh your sugar and cream into a saucepan. Add the zest of an entire orange, being careful not to grate into the white pith portion of the orange peel. We only want the flavorful, thin outer layer.

• Stir cream, sugar and zest together. Place saucepan over medium heat and bring to a full rolling boil, stirring often.

• Once the mixture has reached a full boil, remove from heat and stir in the flour. Whisk well. Add the processed almonds and stir thoroughly.

• Using a 1-½ teaspoon cookie scoop place level scoops of batter about 4” apart on the lined baking sheets. These cookies do spread a lot and become very thin so you want to make sure they don’t run into each other while baking. You could also use a heaping 1 teaspoon measuring spoon instead of the cookie scoop.

Almonds. Cream. Sugar. Flour. Orange Zest. Chocolate. That’s all you need!

The following recipe is by weight, which is the most accurate way to bake and increases your success rate. I hope you pull an old recipe from your book and make something you haven’t in a while.
