QUALITY TIME & FAMILY FUN

Director of Business Development/ Public Address Announcer, FM RedHawks

Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks Baseball

A community favorite with a bright future

The RedHawks are a professional minor league baseball team in its 29th season - their caliber of play is outstanding. We play our home games at Newman Outdoor Field, which is on the north side of North Dakota State University’s campus. The stadium seats roughly 4,300 fans.

I get to sell fun and the great game of baseball.

From a business impact perspective, the RedHawks provide a real community and economic asset, as we attract fans and visitors from outside of the area. A RedHawks game is also a great way to connect with friends, family and other business owners. Our business-day games are always fantastic networking opportunities.

All things considered, this still feels like a small community and businesses want to see each other succeed.

I’ve had the opportunity to connect with countless business owners and professionals in the area and build outstanding working relationships. So many businesses have stepped up as sponsors and partners, and it’s been fun to see their support grow each season.

I am proud that the RedHawks have sustained success both on the field and as a business entity

I’ll never forget when we won our first American Association Championship in 2022. It was very rewarding for our players, coaches, staff and incredible fans. Business-wise, we see sponsors and partners coming back year after year – which tells me they believe in our product as much as we do.

We’re always looking for new entertainment, amenities, improvements to the ballpark, food and drink options, and more. We will always work hard to keep FM RedHawks baseball fresh and fun for the whole family.

This year, we have a baby (and a slightly-older puppy), and we feel quite the same – it’s a great place to reconnect with friends, support local businesses and get a fun and fresh start to your weekend.

I also have to shoutout West Acres Mall; they put on all kinds of fun family events throughout the year.

Uncorked Lounge

A new business pouring new experiences

We are a self-pour wine lounge in South Fargo, with a mission to curate a space where community and technology can come together for an unforgettable experience that is all your own.

We opened summer of 2024!

We already have so many regulars who are very excited to see us keep going. They reshare our social media posts, bring in new friends and are proud to show us off – it is such a delight to see!

The FMWF business and entrepreneur community is like no other. The businesses here want to see each other thrive, even if they are considered a “competitor.” This unique camaraderie means you’ll always feel supported, even when times are rough. The encouragement you receive is even louder and more enthusiastic than the crowd at an NDSU Bison football game!

Proud moment.

One of my staff members was dining at another local restaurant one evening, and she overheard the table next to her talking about how much they enjoy Uncorked Lounge and that they need to get a group together to go back.

Everyone is insanely positive and sincerely wishes us the best. It makes the stresses of opening a new business a little less intimidating.

If it’s in your heart to jump feet-first into a new business, this community will do all it can to help you realize your dreams.

Sparking joy and creativity

We are an imagination-based indoor playland designed for children ages 1 to 8, but fun for all ages. We have been open since March 2023 and have met so many amazing families since opening our doors.

Nothing is more rewarding than watching kids and parents leave with giant smiles on their faces! We once had a grandmother walk behind the counter to hug and thank us for creating such an amazing space. I will always remember that.

We appreciate how focused this community is on expanding child and family-based activities. We have come so far in the last few years, and before long, the FM area will certainly be the region’s top area for family fun!

In 2025, we hope to start KidCo. on the Go, which will be a service that brings our most fun attractions and toys directly to our clients. We look forward to continuing to help our great community GET THEIR WIGGLES OUT!

A TRUE ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT

The Lights

first of its kind

Our team at West Fargo Events (WFE) is proud to manage the operations at The Lights Entertainment District, Essentia Health Plaza, West Fargo Sports Arena, POW/MIA Plaza and many other public programming activities such as West Fargo Cruise Night, West Fest and Stage West Theatre.

The Lights is a vibrant, walkable destination that promotes entertainment and employment in the area. The entertainment district is a perfect example of a public-private partnership with a goal to generate activity through public amenities for all to enjoy, while strengthening our tax base to fund our city, schools, parks and county. It is a win for everyone!

The Lights is home to retail shopping, office spaces, recreation, entertainment and living – making it the first of its kind in North Dakota.

One of my personal favorites at Essentia Health Plaza at The Lights is our annual Professional Bull Riding week in early June. Converting the plaza to a dirt arena and bringing in the community for an action-packed experience is just so unique.

As far as live music goes, I don’t think there is a better summer concert venue in the entire Upper Midwest than coming to see your favorite entertainer on the Midco Stage at The Lights!

Investing in the future workforce through career awareness and engagement programs for the next generation is also crucial. By collaborating with educational and business partners, we can retain our youth and spark their interest in pursuing careers within our community.

Keep ‘em

Retaining the workforce is of utmost importance to employers and the greater region. These efforts also extend far beyond the walls of the business or the hours of 9 to 5. When our businesses can maintain their employees, it ensures a reliable and experienced talent pool, reduces recruitment costs and heightens productivity. When those employees also feel a genuine connection and love for the community they live in, it further strengthens their satisfaction and commitment to their employer and our region.

Advance ‘em

Training, educating and developing our current and future workforce is the only way we will keep up with the rapidly evolving demands we face as a metro. LEVEL UP YOUR CAREER

Eventide Senior Living Communities

Career building at its best

I have worked in long-term care since I was 15 years old, and I have always known this was my calling. When I first started working at Eventide, I enjoyed working alongside the CNA’s, many of whom became close friends, and I started to gain more interest in the nursing side of things.

My manager and other nurses saw potential in me and convinced me to apply to nursing school. Eventide was flexible with my schedule, so I was able to maintain working full time while also going to nursing school full time. It was not easy, but I had a strong support system at Eventide. After I obtained my nursing degree, I worked as a treatment nurse and charge nurse.

Eventually, I took on another challenge in life and left Eventide to work at a local hospital, but it did not take long for me to realize where my heart still was. When a Resident Care Manager role opened at Eventide, I promptly applied, and soon began my new leadership journey back at Eventide. After a few years as the Resident Care Manager, I was promoted to the role I am in today, Director of Nursing.

The opportunities are plentiful in the FMWF community. It is full of career options, engaged employers and countless professional connections - if you know what you are looking for, you’ll certainly find something that interests you!

The North Dakota Army National Guard (NDARNG) plays a key role in the lives of those who serve. Aside from hands-on career training, financial and insurance benefits and more, there are also perks that many people don’t think about. These include leadership skill development, a strong sense of camaraderie and travel opportunities. In my time in the National Guard and in the performance of my military duties, I have been to 23 states and 13 countries.

Anyone can be a great fit for the guard – it’s also a gateway to significant personal growth, powerful camaraderie and unparalleled life experiences.

A SUCCESS STORY FOR EVERY STUDENT

Minnesota State Community and Technical College (M State)

Meeting the needs of all students, businesses and industries

The vision of M State is to be a success story for every student. We achieve that through our mission: to specialize in affordable and exceptional education, service and workforce training. We welcome all students and engage them in shaping their futures and their communities.

I now jokingly say that M State is no longer a “best kept secret,” due to the number of phone calls we are getting from area employers looking to hire our graduates or sign up for workforce solution training. I’ve seen the FM community embrace the skills we teach, the innovation we bring to the table and the ways we support every aspect of the lives of our students.

I’m excited about the future of M State for many reasons, but mostly because we continue to hire the very best people to do the rewarding work of educating and serving our students. We are committed as leaders to continue finding ways to remove barriers for students and help them achieve their dreams, all while serving our community, partners and businesses.

M State is on a mission, and we’re all in.

ICEBREAKER INSIGHTS

I attended Minnesota State University of Moorhead for two years, and then transferred to North Dakota State University to complete my degree. While these schools are certainly different, they both had knowledgeable and expert faculty and exciting opportunities to step out of your comfort zone and experience new things – which truly prepared me for my career outside of school. Plus, they all both have rugby teams and being part of that community strongly influenced who I am today.

ENHANCING THE COMMUNITY

Fargo Park District

Growing community through places, spaces and experiences

The Fargo Park District enhances the community with diverse recreational opportunities and maintains over 2,800 acres of parkland. Our facilities, including sports centers, swimming pools, golf courses, nature parks, and playgrounds, improve the quality of life in Fargo and the surrounding region by promoting healthy lifestyles, fostering community engagement and preserving natural spaces for future generations.

Fargo Moorhead West Fargo stands out for its sense of community, evident in residents’ participation in local events, volunteer efforts and support for initiatives. This willingness to come together makes this place special.

At the Fargo Park District, we positively impact individuals of all ages, abilities, backgrounds and interests by ensuring access to recreational activities, safe outdoor spaces and engaging programs. Seeing our staff’s passion and witnessing community members gather, play and make memories together is the most rewarding part of my role.

A standout memory is the recent opening of Phase I of the Fargo Parks Sports Center. This long-time dream became a reality through the generosity of countless donors, partners and community support. Hosting a grand opening with over 3,000 attendees and seeing the community’s excitement and pride was incredibly inspiring.

In 2025, we will open Phase II of the Fargo Parks Sports Center and the updated Island Park Pool. We are also starting a system-wide park master planning process to assess community needs and establish a long-range strategy.

With a thriving economy, supportive community members, excellent schools, diverse amenities and beautiful outdoor spaces, Fargo Moorhead West Fargo is truly special.

CREATING EXPERIENCES

Folkways

You belong here

Folkways is a community-based nonprofit dedicated to fostering a sense of belonging, economic growth and community vitality through the creation of immersive experiences and collaborations. We bring together small business owners, artists and musicians to activate urban spaces and foster a vibrant local culture. Our key programs, including the Red River Market, Night Bazaar, Christkindlmarkt, Log the Sauna and CampusFM, are all about community building and placemaking.

The Red River Market, now in its 10th season, has become a symbol of community vibrancy. It’s amazing to hear stories of people visiting Fargo, attending the market and deciding to move here because of the sense of community they felt. For many new residents, it’s often the first community event they participate in, which speaks volumes about its impact on Fargo’s business landscape.

One of the things I love most about working and living in Fargo Moorhead West Fargo is the strong sense of community. After watching Folkways events from afar during college, I was eager to move back to Fargo and be a part of what this organization is doing. It’s an honor to create that same excitement for others.

Looking ahead, our goal at Folkways is to deepen our impact on community belonging and make Fargo the best small city in America. We’re committed to creating more immersive experiences that connect people, celebrate culture and support small businesses, artists and cultural creators. At Folkways, everyone truly belongs.

Four Star Ninja Academy Strength, courage, commitment and confidence

Four Star Ninja Academy, an American Ninja Warrior training facility, offers a unique blend of upper and lower body obstacles designed to take participants from Point A to Point B. We provide classes, open gym sessions, birthday parties, events and host Ninja Competitions. Our programs start at age 3 with no upper age limit, ensuring everyone can participate.

We have been in business for five years, and I have loved every minute of working in the Fargo Moorhead West Fargo community. The people here are kind, generous and incredibly supportive of small businesses.

My role at Four Star Ninja Academy is deeply fulfilling because it allows me to offer a safe and healthy outlet for kids. We teach them our “4 Stars”—Strength, Courage, Commitment and Confidence. Through training, Ninjas learn to overcome failure and build character.

One of my favorite memories is watching my Ninjas compete at the World Championship. However, my most cherished moment was helping a girl who dreamt of conquering the monkey bars. After a month of training, she succeeded and was so happy she cried.

The support from the community has been tremendous, especially during challenging times like COVID-19. When we were shut down for six weeks, many families continued their memberships to ensure we made it through. Some even kept their memberships for a year without using them, just to support us.

Looking ahead, our goal is to expand and bring Ninja training to other communities that currently lack access to this sport. We plan to add new locations and introduce a mobile rig to bring Ninja training to schools and small towns across North Dakota and Minnesota.

Taking nonprofits to new heights

We’re a firm dedicated to helping nonprofits tackle their toughest fundraising challenges, whether it’s through events, annual and major giving, or board leadership. This September, we’ll celebrate seven years of making a difference in this space.

One of the things I love most about doing business in the Fargo Moorhead West Fargo area is the incredible access to influential people who truly make this community thrive. It’s remarkable how easy it is to connect with anyone here, from elected officials to business leaders, who are always willing to share their insights, listen to new ideas or help you make valuable connections.

What fuels my passion is seeing the “light bulb” moments in my clients’ eyes. That instant when they realize they’ve got this, that they know the next step to take or the story to tell that will inspire more giving. It’s that feeling of relief when they understand they’re not alone in facing the challenges of nonprofit work. Those moments are as addictive as they come.

Looking ahead, I’m excited to expand our reach, bringing on more clients from different regions and showcasing how incredible this community is. Whenever I travel and mention I’m from West Fargo, people are often curious, sometimes even a bit envious of the supportive business environment we have here. If you’re on the fence about moving to or doing business in FMWF, I say do it. You’ll find everything you need— whether it’s a supportive environment to start a business, a great place to raise a family or a community that feels like home. And don’t worry about the snow in the winter—your neighbor will help you snowblow or shovel with that first snowfall!

BUILDING THE AMERICAN DREAM

The BIA

Over 700 members strong

The BIA is a volunteer-driven trade organization with over 700 members. We advocate for attainable housing and a strong building industry, essential for creating jobs, driving the economy and strengthening communities. The BIA, which started in 1956, was known as the Home Builders Association of Fargo-Moorhead until our name change in early 2024. This better reflects our diverse membership, which includes commercial and remodeling sectors.

Working in Fargo Moorhead West Fargo is a privilege. The region’s economic vitality, diverse industries, and the generosity of businesses and organizations working for the greater good are unmatched. I’m proud to be part of an organization that helps people achieve the American dream of homeownership, a key to personal investment and security. The housing industry here is not just a job creator; it’s an economic engine that drives the region’s growth.

One of my proudest memories was working with our members and volunteers during the 1997 and 2009 floods. Seeing the community come together was inspiring and highlights why this region is so special. The BIA also supports major initiatives like the Health, Tech, and Trades Career Expo, which introduces youth to trades. Our charitable arm, Home Builders Care Foundation, ensures workforce programming and community service efforts continue to grow and positively impact the region.

Relationships here are strong, and the business environment supports small businesses. This region offers a unique blend of opportunities, amenities and a welcoming community, making it an ideal place to live and work.

FINDING PURPOSE

Farm in the Dell of the Red River Valley

Transforming disabilities into abilities

Each growing season, we have the privilege of employing individuals with disabilities to help with farm and garden operations and to ensure a successful harvest. Our mission is to “transform disabilities into abilities” and we do this by providing meaningful employment, a supportive community and life experiences on the farm for individuals with developmental disabilities.

The heart of our work is our Garden Engineers. Each day on the farm, we show them that they are seen, heard, valued and celebrated. There’s nothing more rewarding than watching their excitement as they master new skills, see the fruits of their labor during harvest or reunite with a beloved team member. Witnessing their growth and joy is an absolute privilege.

One of my proudest moments is the launch of The Market at Farm in the Dell. Starting Summer 2024, we’ll be selling our produce to the community—a dream realized through hard work, key business partnerships and community support.

FMWF is truly unique, blending small-town values with big-city vibrancy and opportunity. It’s a community that embraces new ideas and supports innovation, making it the perfect place for our mission to thrive.

Developing the potential of every learner

From the moment students step into Moorhead schools, they are immersed in an environment that encourages curiosity, creativity and a passion for knowledge. The theme reflects the district’s dedication to helping students develop the skills and mindset needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.

Our efforts go beyond the classroom and beyond grade 12. The impact made today resonates throughout students’ lives, instilling a love of learning that lasts a lifetime. This theme underscores that education at Moorhead Area Public Schools is not just about academic success today, but about preparing students for the future.

We are grateful for the continued support and partnership of the entire community in making a profound difference in the lives of students.

Students are the future, and it is great to live and work in a community that recognizes and prioritizes that.
