WE ARE ONE

For families in countries where access to food has been cut off due to COVID-19, the number of people in danger of starvation rises daily. Hurricanes Eta and Iota flooded communities and destroyed crops throughout Central America, leaving even middle class families in danger of starvation. In Haiti, a growing COVID-19 infection rate, as well as civil frustration and unrest, threaten the most vulnerable. We can change their lives. We can make a life-changing difference for these children and families.

LET TER FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear Friends, Welcome to Food For The Poor’s National Celebration --We Are One virtual concert. We are so excited that you could join us for an evening of unity, inspiration and celebration. The Gospel message to love our neighbor is fully alive here tonight as we come together to help prevent children from going to sleep hungry and ease the worry of parents who fear their children will starve to death. Your generous support will help make it possible to provide desperately needed meals to hungry families. The coronavirus pandemic has touched us all, but for those suffering in extreme poverty, COVID-19 has been devastating. Severe food shortages caused by pandemic restrictions are driving tens of thousands of hungry children and families throughout Latin America and the Caribbean to the brink of starvation. Your loving generosity is truly God’s love in action and an answer to the desperate prayers of those suffering in the darkness of poverty. You are a ray of light and hope for children and families confronting the cruel effects of this deadly pandemic. God bless you for loving your neighbor with such compassion and generosity. May He keep you and your family safe and healthy.

HOW WE ARE RESPONDING The poverty-stricken people in the countries that are helped by Food For The Poor have experienced especially challenging times due to last year’s catastrophic back-to-back hurricanes and the devastating fallout from COVID-19. Thankfully, FFTP’s generous donors have stepped up to help our brothers and sisters in dire need. How Food For The Poor is Responding to COVID-19 in the Countries It Serves Since the beginning of the pandemic, the charity has shipped 1,388 containers of COVID-19 aid, including 12 containers to Puerto Rico and 30 to help families in Florida and elsewhere in the United States. Additional containers of food were purchased directly from businesses and suppliers in the countries. How FFTP is Responding to Hurricanes Eta and Iota Hurricanes Eta and Iota destroyed tens of thousands of homes, wiped out roads and bridges and flooded croplands in countries already vulnerable and dealing with the ongoing pandemic. FFTP responded immediately and has shipped 157 tractor-trailer loads of disaster relief items that included nonperishable food, two-burner liquid petroleum gas (propane) stoves and supplies. Countries receiving the items included Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, El Salvador, Belize, Colombia, Haiti and Guyana, all of which either experienced direct impacts or flooding from one or both of the storms. Thanks to our generous donors, the charity also was able to purchase critically needed food and hygiene items in the Central American countries hardest hit by Eta and Iota. Now, the charity and its donors are helping farmers replant crops through several projects that will increase food supply to the areas hardest hit.
