9 Free kick, left side of the pitch, ten meters outside the area. Jamie places the ball on the grass, inspects its adherence to the ground and makes some final adjustments. I feel sorry for the opponents. His shot will be a goal. The ball will fly over all the players and find the top right corner of the net; low enough to give the goalkeeper the illusion of a save, yet high enough to escape his stretch. Just perfect. One final look at the target and he launches the ball. Goal. How did I know that? I have been fortunate to see Jamie play football since he was six. I have watched him do the same geometries over and over, not just in pursuit of perfection but also of discovery. A passion that runs in the family. His father Darren is no different. He shares the same fascination for the sphere and its dynamics. When they train together they speak rarely and softly. The pitch is a grid and the sphere an object of study. Football is a science to be mastered. And then another match comes. Jamie has possession of the ball. The opponent comes close, ready to tackle. It looks so easy. But it’s just a decoy, an illusion. Jamie has already left him behind with a swift turn and now he is gone, ready to create new
geometries. Any player can perform a trick. With Jamie, it is so much deeper than that. It goes beyond technicality; he is plotting before he gets the ball so that, when he does, his execution is flawless. Jamie is the kind of player ready to invest years of hard work to create a method. One day this little wizard will surprise the crowds with his magic and people will wonder where all that talent came from. I think Jamie is an intellectual. His football is a world of constants and variables. Jamie is fast with his feet and even faster with his brain. And you know what they say: ‘The brain is the most dangerous weapon’. Jamie Shawyer plays for Brunswick U13 Harrow League Premier Division. FOLLOW BRUNSWICK U13

THE TROUBLE WITH PALESTINE Palestine has suffered one of the most wide-ranging conflicts of the 20th century. The violence resulting from this conflict has elicited international aid, yet people are still suffering every day, the region’s youth in particular. They have lost their opportunities for education, outlets for nutrition and have been manipulated by propaganda. Many governmentrelated steps have been taken to try and solicit change in this region, with these efforts having minimal success. Perhaps a different type of change needs to be utilized. Football has always been a vital tool for change throughout the world. This is especially true in regions of despair, poverty, and conflict. In a world where politics often become more of a roadblock to change, sports and football have a unique and special ability to break apart boundaries. In light of struggles of religion, war and politics in the Middle East, organizations aiming for peace through sports, such as Mifalot, have been established.
that football creates social change. Mifalot’s projects are designed to promote sustainable development and peaceful coexistence in the Middle East. Mifalot serves the educational and social needs of youth through sporting programs that provide children with the tools to learn, grow and excel in their community and the world. Some of their projects include football programs focusing on Coexistence and Peace and Child Development and Education. After much success in Israel, Mifalot decided to expand their organisation outside of Israel and to adapt their project models to meet the local needs of different communities. Mifalot is currently located in Jordan, Palestine, Rwanda, Cameroon, and Haiti.
This organisation utilizes the unifying power of football as a means to build more active, compassionate and cohesive communities in Palestine and around the world.
The organization recognizes that each international community has unique needs, cultural practices and constraints, but believes that all these communities share the potential to empower youth through sport.
The owners of Hapoel Tel Aviv Football Club in Israel founded Mifalot in 1997 under the principle
As an organisation that aspires for social change and global progress, it is clear to those at Mifalot that the

key for change begins with the youth. Football has shown to have the special ability to create opportunities for peaceful and powerful unification among youth, and therefore it is the goal of Mifalot to help facilitate these crucial and world-changing opportunities. In a region where the relationship between Palestinians and Israelis has been tense and violent for years, where homes are destroyed and hidden bombs can explode at any moment, the Mifalot staff displays tremendous courage and compassion by bringing youth from these two different cultures together in peace. Their common love for football could be the beginning of a friendship. FOLLOW MIFALOT

MITOO FOOTBALL REVOLUTION
17 As one of the most viewed, played and revered sports on the planet, it is hard to imagine that football could get any better. It has been played the same way for years, so why change it? The two men behind 2 Touch Rulz are not trying to change the game of football. They are trying to make it better. When we met with 2 Touch Rulz last year at the NEC, we instantly saw what they were pursuing a fresh, new approach to the game of football. But, as with any big change, they were struggling to find a strong follower base.
This game has already started to revolutionise the way competitive football is being played and enjoyed. All current mini-sided games are perfect for maximizing individual play and footballers of all ages should play as regularly as possible. However, 2 Touch Rulz provides competitive football with an opportunity to improve team play. No other game can help teams achieve this goal quite like 2 Touch can.
Charlie and Michael have worked tirelessly to introduce this new, subversive style of football. Their passion and perseverance has paid off as their participants and fan base continue to grow. Emphasising quick thinking and accuracy, 2 Touch Rulz allows each player to only touch the ball twice before passing it along to a teammate. Not only does it challenge the individual player, but also it further inspires teamwork. Knowing where your teammates are at all times and correctly executing moves becomes that much more important.
So, do think you or your team is already quick, accurate and good at team football? If so, be ready to challenge some of the already accomplished 2 Touch Champions; including Barcelona Blues (2011 U18’s London Champions) and The Original 2 Touch Team (2011 Men’s Champions).
Designed and first played in the UK, 2 Touch Rulz is providing an amazing learning experience for football players young and old. The training elements and skill sets obtained through 2 Touch Rulz become essential and easily transferable to an 11-a-side game.
It may be hard to believe that competitive football can really get any better, but 2 Touch plans to back up that idea with a lot of pitch action during 2012. Whether you are a player, coach or avid spectator, the new rules and stylish goals of 2 Touch will change the way you experience football. 2 Touch really is making the ‘beautiful game’ even more beautiful. Thankfully, Umbro are not a brand that would distance itself from it’s heritage. Fresh from a limited ‘throwback’ edition of their most popular football boots - dubbed the Speciali 92 - the Manchester-based brand have released the new Umbro Speciali III.
Launching in clean Pearlized White/ Black/Nectarine colourway and classic Black/White/Vivid Blue, the Umbro Speciali III is easily the most modern-looking Speciali yet, with a unique design that puts performance and comfort at the top of itís agenda.
A combination of classic styling and the latest innovation, the Speciali III retains the Kanga-Touch upper that won over so many players on the Speciali R, offering exceptional touch and feel on the ball. Across the middle of the boot is a refined A-Frame cradle, which
Best of all, the Speciali III doesn’t cost a King’s ransom - at £80 / $130, there simply aren’t many top-level boots cheaper. Available in stores from the end of January.
